I really really hope we'll get a documentary of the making of LT3. Like snippets from the actual writing and recording of the songs. I would give anything to watch a glimpse at the room hoth or all this time was written in 😭. We're not getting that documentary for fitf but i have hope for LT3 - I think Louis wants to be away from the cameras while in writing camps and stuff, it would be weird to have camera while you’re trying to write
That's a possibility but i feel like he has a camera (s) following him around all the time for years now, and he would also have all the power to choose what he wants people to see so, it wouldn't be so jarring if they tried to film his time while making the songs (please louis 🥺). That's just my opinion. At the end of the day, he can do whatever he wants and is comfortable with. It's just that for a such a skilled songwriter and a brillant mind, the idea of us having a BTS of the album making is too exciting for me to let go of this dream. I wonder if he's never tried to film those sessions before or maybe he did but felt uncomfortable being filmed while voicing his thoughts and feelings and baring his most intimate experiences (valid!). Either way, if filming the making of the songs is out of the question, i would love an insight on the decision making concerning the album 🥺, like why choose certain songs and not others, the first time he comes up with the title, the reason behind the order of the songs, the number of the songs the album contains, the photoshoots, the singles' choices.... Especially walls, to know how he structered that album with songs written though out those years, so different sonically and lyrically, which songs he had to cut just to have an idea of how he managed to make that album would be so cool

right back at ya cowboy
Omg ella I'm so sorry I was gonna do this "later" and then it got buried. OK. I clicked. EDIT: I JUST FOUND THIS IN MY DRAFTS IM DOUBLE SORRY lol imma expose my ramble draft
[So in case someone's reading this thinking ???? we sometimes throw a spinning wheel of songs at each other and then just go rambling yelling analysing whatever it gives back. I've kept track with this tag, feel free to copy any of them wheels links and go off or bug someone with it actually pls do]
Tumblr media
Oh you mean that song I for some reason like some total idiot put on first thing in the morning and just bawl my eyes out, you know when its so early you're just so vulnerable and everything feels raw and there's no thoughts just something primal happens and it's me drowning myself in this song and then the day can start I guess am I fine nobody knows. It's now my Saturday morning ritual where before coffee I see some sun and I just bawl there's something therapeutic about it. I'd recommend it. Just some sun some coffee brewin some confused pet wondering if you're OK yeah.
Anyway. The song I can place extremely easily in like "1d ended and it sucked" context, but it works with a lot. whatever I can think of him, or anyone, writing about, whatever it means to me. (general Louis' songwriting ramble incoming:) I'm looking at FITF differently compared to Walls and previous work and he's approached it differently, I feel like what he's been saying about his discography fits that as well. I think (this is a mash of what i think to hear in his lyrics and in interviews, so heavy paraphrasing:) before he had this idea he should be writing where the whole thing makes sense to be about this one situation/idea and it has to be about him too and sure perhaps a context might have been written around it, but i think in the past hes been pretty perfectionist on having every single line fit the thing he was thinking of what that song is, and now thats no longer the case. Now it's whatever works, whatever hits, feels, does it. It doesn't matter one thought/situation flows into another.
I guess that was a long rambley way of saying I wanna do line by line lyric analyses of his stuff but I don't know how to make that work as it did previously, for me at least. But on the other by temporarily running with one interpretation and seeing what you can find in the lines can really help see more angles, bring more depth to the line, and consider other meanings and stuff so.. idk not much wrong with it. I wanna do that too I think. This is I guess A Promise I'll do a Holding On To Heartache lyric breakdown. At Some Point. :D
But I think his choices of words and soundscapes and perhaps all them being little references are just wonderful. I cherish it so much. I'm slightly afraid he did the same in Perfect Now (like after seeing a web of possible perfect now lyrical referencing that song did become one of my favs as I love that idea like it gives so much more body depth meaning whatever to a song to me even if not on purpose lol its not even relevant at that point anymore anyway) and long term didn't value it much so now I'm afraid my new little more poppy fav will be his new neglected child but time will tell. Just... have an itch. Rip. EDIT yeah that itch got worse because of the track by track we got now.. it's got that bit about HOTH being a poppy one and the way he's talking about it sigh i feel him but sigh also hes sigh i dont wannt start that discourse over that shit so no. but itch. I uh... luckily don't let how I interpret his reactions to his own songs affect the way I feel about his own songs haha brainpayne this.
ok ok ok last ramble it sounds so fucking liquid? so wet?? how do I explain this why does it sound w e t EDIT: help me he said the sound is like a guitar under water like he's drowning it's flooding we're in a puddle of tears this song, it's what makes me bawl I think, because the song sounds like bawling, and your cheeks are puffed up and we,t and you find a moment of quiet and stare up at the sky with your wet lashes exhausted defeated but you're still here you're still breathing. Also the bridge with the "space between us just comes FLOODING back" at the end of it, it's not the bit that hits the hardest in an obvious way, instead it kinda gets overlooked a way, theres no moment to sit and waddle in the SHIT FLOODING BACK RIGHT THERE it just goes right into the quiet bit again, there's no time given to recover from getting crushed by the wavesm and it just does something to me... I can't leave that bit as the little end of a big thought it sounds like, but the way its sung... time just keeps ticking and we're at the end. I'm almost sure that wasn't intentional and like @ me why focus on this of all the overwhelm that's in this song, but that just feels like a reflection of the feeling I get from this song, you're just fucking sitting there in the middle of this overwhelming ache these waves of hurt and shit just moves on and youre just there stuck there with but i wasn't done? But I guess I should be? Like there's no room for me drowning in this even more but I feel like I need to still?
ramble out.

So. Put on your songwriting cap and let’s speculate for a minute. FITF is all about changes, good and bad. Is that why Louis chose to cover Night Changes on tour? Do you think it’s nostalgia or something else? Narratively, what is the sequence of songs from Night Changes/ Change/ Copy/ Saturdays/ Silver Tongues/ HOTH? Do you think he’s gonna keep covering Night Changes?
The concepts of change and time are both heavily featured in so much of Louis’ discography. The way that he views that passage of time or change however does keep evolving.
From “wish that you could build a time machine” all the way to “spend my whole life just thinking I had to change” it’s almost impossible to find a single Louis song without references to time and change and the effects of each or the way they make him feel.
Tumblr media
From all the way back in 2011. His relationship with growing up and time passing and it bringing about changes has been a long one. I don’t think we’re about to see a departure from it any time soon. The only difference is that some of his recent writing seems to associate positive and hopeful feelings with both concepts instead of nostalgic, melancholy or even downright heartbreaking ones. And I feel like (and hope) going into LT3 that is what we’ll see more of.
(The fact that fans often refer to him as Peter Pan and he refuses to age in terms of aesthetics, just adds another whole layer to it).
I have no idea if I even answered your question. As for Night Changes, if it was up to me he wouldn’t keep any of the past band songs on his set list. Unfortunately I know that that’s wishful thinking, so if he is to keep a cover of a previous band song then I hope it’s a new one. Like we established most of his writing revolves around these concepts so I’m sure it won’t be hard to find another one that fits the theme. (Not a fan of the dead band so don’t know their discography all that well).

I'm going to the louis show in Birmingham which seems to be (at the moment!) The last show on his European leg so I keep swinging from "omg no what if he cuts holding onto Heartache like he did at the end of the NA leg 😭" and "omg what if he sings headline with the academic 👀" -so many months to clown!!!
I'm sorry to bother you with my clowning but I don't have any louis friends (new fan!) And am so so excited (and nervous) for the show!
Do you think he'll mix up the setlist for each leg of the tour?
It's no bother at all! Always feel free to freak out about Louis' music and shows in my inbox. Well let me start by saying congrats you're going to see him live in all his glory and get to hear the perfection that is fitf live AND at the last Europe leg concert at that. I'm sure you'll have the best time ❤️ (i'm also jealous bc i can't see him this year 😭). As far as mixing the setlist, last tour he kept it pretty much the same for all the legs (except for adding change after a certain Europe show and removing too young towards the end of the tour if i remmember correctly) but this time he seems to be playing with the setlist a lot more. I think he'll keep it mainly the same but with a few changes. I think he'll definetely add a new song (don't know what song will be the victim if he does though 😭 maybe common people 🥺) and it will be either headline (especially that you're going to see him in the last show and with the academics as openers) or paradise (afhf seems very paradise coded to me so i feel like he might perform it at the festival and then carry on with it for the Europe leg). I really hope he keeps the 505 cover and back to you (what if he replaces bty with miss you!). I also really really hope he drops wdbhg it's just light years away from his lyricism like he's such a genius songwriter and the lyrics to that song are just.. bad. It's ok if he insists on playing two 1d songs but Louis pls choose another i can't stand this one 😭. So far, he's only skipped hoth when there are curfew issues, so it depends on your luck. If there will be no such issues, i think he'll definetely play it especially that it's such a fan favorite (you can also go see him a few more shows if you can just to make sure you get to hear it live 😁). I'm hoping for always you in Amsterdam 🥺. I'll also clown and say that we'll get guitar Louis (if he doesn't do it in Europe, then i think there's no hope we'll get it this tour we'll have to wait till the next one 😭). All in all that's what i think/ hope will or will not change in the setlist (i personally think it's perfect as it is he just needs to drop wdbhg and put headline instead). And since you're new fan, i just want to say welcome to the fandom Louis and louies are the best 🫶🏽 and there are very nice and amazing solo louies here and on Twitter that you can follow. I hope you get the time of your life at the concert 💙. Until then, you're always welcome to share your thoughts and excitement in my inbox 🫶🏽
