back in like, i dont remember, i think it was 2017 or 2018, but i used to play royale high and i had no money to buy stuff with, so i would change my avatar to look like a boy and this was back when that contest went off your roblox avatar, and not many boys played it so i often got voted for because there wasnt competition, so thats how i would get the diamonds so i could customize my character. the avatar was literally just made with free items and it had that shitty blue hair

i also used to lie to scammers out of pure stupidity because i didnt know they wanted the username and password for my actual roblox account and just made stuff up.

also there was this old paper mario roleplay game i liked (i think it was called super paper roleplay or something, i dont remember and its probably long gone now but i liked it!) and i was too shy to join anyones rps so i would just follow people around and watch their roleplays

when i saw this ask i was like "oh shid spr mention" and then this guy who was like 20 feet away started chanting "OH SHID OH SHID"

i also used to awkwardly watch people rp, but instead of in super paper roblox it was in royale high

I just got struck with the memory of how I used to watch slideshow stories recorded and put in youtube of the ppgz when I was 12....and like. I was a rabid consumer of this stuff and even tried making it myself and i never succeeded. I was so rabid in fact that youtube STILL suggests me ppgz slideshows. I even learned a bit of spanish specifically to consume these slideshows. I also had read ALL fanfic on the topic off of wattpad and fanfiction dot net.

Also! Egg moment! I wanted to be a rowdy ruff boy SO BAD. My self insert was named Bash! And he was the MIDNIGHT blue rrb and also he started off as a girl but I changed him to a boy later. His twin was the white rrb Blast. But ALSO his counterpart was the light yellow ppg known as Rika and her ppg name was blitz. I embraced this identity so fucking hard that my roblox name is a reference to this. Along with my password.

That self insert evolved into Maurice, and Rika, well he kept his name. And also became a boy. I had a single thought about these two boys kissing to Alluring Secret covered by Razzy and oh my goodness it changed the trajectory of my life. 12 year old me was like, "I know they're both girls but like he turns into a boy later..." and lightbulb. Lightbulb.lightbulb.lightbulb!!! Nevermind the fact that the rrbs and ppgs being gendered mirrors of each other is such an idea to pop out at young trans kids. It wasn't its intent but it definitely allowed for introspection.

Also. Here is a glimpse into my watch later playlist because I never ever cleared it simply for the memories. These are ALL the ppgz stories I absolutely needed to watch, before I stumbled into ouran host cub and noragami.

My Experience With Roblox

Hey! Hi! Hello! I have just gone through some pretty frustrating stuff and I wanted to share some experiences I've had with the Scam Formerly Known As Roblox.

So let me tell you a little bit of a story.

Back in the day I used to be a small Roblox Creator. And when I say 'back in the day', I mean like a decade ago, before a lot of the current extremely shady monetization and exploitation practices weren't implemented yet. And mind you, there WAS the 'Builder's Club' and there was Buying Robux, but it wasn't as blatant, and you still had Tix as the Free Currency.

Roblox was a place where I found quite the community. I was still not all that good at English, and it was through interacting with others that I pretty much taught myself to speak English. I met some of my longest-lasting friendships, I had my first Hyperfixation... Hell- It even introduced me to Homestuck!

But then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

And by the Fire Nation, I mean that Roblox updated something that broke several of the scripts inside of my game. It dropped without warning, without a Legacy option, and forced Creators to simply adapt and update. Now, it wasn't even anything too big- I believe all I had to do was add 2 lines of code to my scripts, and they'd be fixed.

But, you see. I was inspired to make my own place, because of the work of other Creators. A major inspiration, in fact, was a pretty legendary Bleach Fighting Game, whose... Maker hadn't been on in years.

That was the day I learned the words 'Backwards Compatibility' and realized that Roblox had unceremoniously broken a lot of classic things that now had no repair. Alongside security concerns and the increasing monetization of the place, I decided to simply leave and never look back.

... A few years back, I got an email, telling me that there'd been a successful login to my account.

I quickly got in, changed my password to complete nonsense, reiterated my distaste for the state of the site, and left.

I didn't think much of this event for half a decade, but today. Today I was trying to see if I'd gotten a verification email from a different thing, and I ended up rummaging my Spam Folder, only to find someone writing an email... Asking, politely, for trading of some of the limited items left on my archaic account.

Unsure if this was a scam or not, and wondering what 'cool' items I even could've had in my inventory (Apparently I've got some unique octopus that sells for 22K Robux or something? Shrug-) I decided to log into the site, and... Just on a whim, I checked my messages.

Every single message for the last several years going back were just scams, which truly speaks volumes to how the site had developed. But, more importantly. Going further back, I found people asking me to please come back, and fix the game... Or. 'Make it free'.

...

Apparently. Apparently. In the time I got hacked years ago. Before whoever did it changed my email or password. They had, effectively. Updated my old game, with a message that 'it was back', and monetized it.

Apparently for the past few years I've gotten an insignificant but existent stream of Robux from some poor kids or nostalgic people trying to get back into my game.

I immediately went to try and fix things, only to realize there were no Options to remove the 'pass', and I couldn't find a way to remove the monetization, either.

Now. Mind you. I was doing this on the Browser. Maybe from the client it would've been better, easier, and clearer, but let me tell you- I have not. Seen. SUCH a Hostile UI in my entire life trying to just. FIND what to do to stop this from happening, and eventually I just. Opted for privating and taking down the game entirely. It's broken anyway, after all.

Following that I tried to make a statement on the description of my account, only to see, in horror, that my 1000 word message turned entirely into ####### because apparently I'd written one too many banned terms, because I was, in fact, talking about my account getting hacked, and monetization.

I tried writing a few other messages, and I swear, that was one of the most aggressive content filters I've seen in my ENTIRE life. 'Consent', 'Whole', and several other completely innocent terms just constantly eaten by the censorship algorithm, making writing a new description one of the genuinely most frustrating experiences I've ever had with any website online.

So. I guess. There's not much I want to say here. I am mostly venting about what an awful, awful experience this whole thing is, but like... Seriously. The hacking and security was rampant back then, and I doubt it's any better now. Even if it was, the sheer scope of the scams and exploitation that this... Service is even allowed, is genuinely a Late-Capitalism Nightmare.

Anyway, that was a wretched experience, and as nostalgic as I am for Those Days, and as sure as I am that there's people who still love Roblox and who have made incredible friends through it...

and F kept making snarky comments behind my moms back to N, and J was telling her off but got cut of by me telling him to calm down

and then we were all snickering and F is still ignoring all of us so J hacked A, F’s 6-year old son’s roblox account and changed the password 😭😭 when we got back t their house

so then when F and her kids, A and J3, came, A realized that he had been logged out while me and J were secretly laughing about it and i was at my aunts because i’ve been sleeping over for a week

but now me and J just heard N, his mom, talking about the situation and N told J not to let me manipulate him even tho he saw that my baby brother was the one who broke it

oh also nobody likes F in our family because she was living with me and my mom for eight months and then said that my mom never did anything for her even tho my moms the one who’s been saving her from saying dumb stuff to cops (another situatuon)

How’s you come up with calico chao?

Okay so I used to be Coolchao135 because I wanted to make a Roblox account when I was 9, and I thought it was telling me my username needed 8 letters and 3 numbers, when it probably meant my password. So I decided to split those 8 letters into 2 4-letter words, both of which started with the same letter.

Now, I, being 9 years old, wanted people to think I was cool, so the first word was Cool. Now I needed a 4-letter word of something I thought was cool that starts with a C. I was gonna be Coolcats135, but that was taken, so I went with the second best thing: Chao from the Sonic games. The 135 isn't relevant to my current username so I won't get into it, but you can probably guess why those might have been my three numbers of choice.

So, now that we have the origin of Chao in my username, we can then get into how Coolchao135 transformed into Calico Chao.

10 years later, when I was 19, I decided that I would finally change my username because the old one made me shrivel up into a human raisin of sorts and I decided that I'd finally stop being stubborn and change to something more fitting for me.

I wanted to keep the Chao part because that's what most of my friends I already had knew me as: Chao. I liked the idea of keeping the pattern of two words with the same letter at the beginning, so I went looking for another word that would be fitting for me that starts with the letter C that just sounds nice to say when followed by the word Chao.

There were many contenders, but ultimately I decided on Calico, since calico is a type of cat that I've always been fond of, as well as referencing one of my favorite childhood chao from my Chao Garden as a child, who was named Calico. Calico Chao just also sounds nice to say, and it also has 10 letters total, which I find to be a very agreeable number.

You can tell I'm neurodivergent.

so me being me and being a wannabe critic or a wannabe explainer or whatever I looked up drama of some of my favorite people when I was little (still tbh)

I was the kid that was on the iPad 24/7 YouTube and Roblox Minecraft etc raised me than my own parents

I watched denisdaily and flamingo (flamingo later on in my life) I just didn’t watch anyone else but maybe Brent Rivera (ur stupid automatically bro idk what I saw in u)

Denis was rlly popular and stood out to me for his Roblox videos I subbed to him before he got all popular and #1 like maybe when he started his YouTubeish and I would watch him everyday I saw every single office he had even his bedroom with his roommate Sandra and Sandra’s boyfriend I rlly thought they were cool people I was really into sir meows a lot and having a character like that for a YouTube

My iPad was like child locked or smth like my dad would have to put his password in for me to download smth so his account was on there

Id beg and beg to like get Roblox and play it and become like Denis I truly looked up to him (I’m saying looked like I still don’t)

Apparently people r mad bc he took a mental health break and he had the pals situation plus the scam robux thing

Also like. Being "stupid" is not the kids faults. It's the government.

They're defunding schools, getting rid of certain parts of the learning rubric (like phonics. These kids aren't taught phonics anymore! No wonder so many of them struggle with reading.) and also they're growing up through covid??? They've literally had the world shut down in some of the most important developmental parts of their lives.

I myself was 16. Some of these kids were in elementary school. And now they're expected to go straight into highschool with no problems???

And if you think I'm overreacting. It's been four years since 2020.

Most middle schools in my area only last 3 years.

And in fifth grade, these kids were only around 9/10 years old.

Imagine jumping from 9 to 13 without being able to make friends, or ask your teachers all your silly questions, or learn about how to act in public. And everything's closed, so you really can't practice. So you forget.

And sure. Your parents are trying their best. They're hanging with you over the computer while you email countless teachers and help desks because your "class" won't load. They're trying to explain to you how to do science and math and history, but every single question they answer is wrong... Somehow. But you can't do it yourself because the video you're supposed to be watching doesn't explain it in a way that makes sense. And they've also been trying to make sure that you can face time with your friends from before, and also your cousins and other kids your age. Except all your friends are changing and you don't really share the same interests anymore. And you don't really have many ways of talking to new people, either.

Unless you want to go online.

Which is fine and dandy in all, but you also have to factor in the fact that safe Internet practice really isn't being shoved in our faces nowadays. There's no warning sign on our websites anymore saying hey! Remember not to share your name or age!! Or make it your username or password!! Because people can use that to hurt you!! And anyone as young as seven can be found on TikTok and Roblox, and everything else. You can see their faces and everything. Who's teaching them not to show their faces?? Who's warning them about the bad people online?? No one. Because they think that everyone already knows.

They think that a simple warning of "you must be 12 or older to make an account" is enough. As if someone who is 10 won't just lie. I'VE lied. We ALL have! But we also had a pretty good idea not to actually share anything that would expose our lie. Because it was enforced more firmly. And because websites and apps were regulated by actual people. Not ai.

In fewer words; kids today aren't "dumb" by choice. They were set up for this shit by adults who have decided to skimp out on education.

Danny woke up in a soft bed and stretched. He immediately wheezed as pain all over his body made itself known. Ugh. He must have tangled with Skulker again last night. But why didn't he remember it? And where were Tucker and Sam?

It was the thought of his partners who he usually woke up tangled with that brought his eyes open wide. He was in some kind of mansion, he could tell that immediately. Only rich fruit loop mansions had wood paneling like this. Had Vlad escaped and made another attempt at adopting Danny?

He growled as he slowly sat up. If Vlad had hurt Tucker or Sam he was going to imprison the fruit loop, vampire wannabe in the heart of a black hole.

However the more he looked around the more he didn't think that this was because of Vlad. For one thing, this room was way better decorated than Vlad could ever do. He didn't trust even other people's opinions enough to hire a decorator or designer.

Danny moved to the closets and found clothes tailored for Danny's body there. So this definitely wasn't a kidnapping attempt. No way would Vlad spend this kind of money on Danny without some way to show it off.

He reached for his ghost core and came up empty. Certainly this body was still liminal, in fact more liminal than even the average Amity Parker, though not as bad as Jazz, Tucker or Sam. So if he didn't have hist ghost form, was this not his body?

He stepped in the in-suite bathroom next. The face looking back at him in the mirror looked like his, but also different, scars in different places than what he remembered. This body was only a few years older if Danny were to guess, but more muscular. Danny never had a need to work out and build muscle, he could rely on his ghost strength for that.

If anything this body's build reminded Danny a lot of Dan's. Ancients he hoped this wasn't an evil future version of himself again.

Remembering his earlier pain he lifted up his shirt to find carefully and skillfully wrapped ribs and several other precisely patched injuries. What they hell did this body get up to without a ghost core that they were so injured? Though at least the wrappings showed that they had someone who cared about them enough to take care of them after.

Danny stepped back out into the bedroom, as he tried to put his plan together. This was clearly some kind of body swap situation. Considering this body seemed to be an alternate version of his own, he would guess a dimension swap. Nothing he hadn't dealt with before.

Sam and Tucker would quickly figure out he was replaced then restrain his more dangerous powers. They had his improved version of the Plasmius Maxmimus if they needed. Jazz would notify Fright Knight and use her abilities as Regent to keep the ghosts in line. He would just need to figure out he was, play the part for long enough to find a way back into the Realms to unite with his family.

Now to figure out who the hell this body belonged to. He looked carefully throughout the room. There was very little personal accoutrement in the room. Which was weird because the bedroom Danny shared with Tucker and Sam was filled with their personal touches. Only one nightstand had any personal effects, two framed photos, a phone and a wallet.

Danny reached for the phone first as that could provide the most information. However it was locked and didn't have either fingerprint or facial unlocking, instead had an eight digit password needed. Eight digits! 1,000,000,000 possible combinations. Paranoid much?

Well to be fair, Danny's phone was locked to his ecto signature so only he and Ellie could unlock his phone, a privilege she used to gift herself roblox money, order pizzas with his credit card and change his lock screen to an embarrassing picture of him asleep with his mouth open and a blob ghost napping in his open mouth. How she kept finding that picture despite his many attempts to purge any trace of it, he would never know.

Tossing the phone onto the bed as a later problem, though slightly worried about the number of notifications on he could see but not access or read, Danny focused on the wallet instead. Here at least he struck gold. The credit cards were all under the name Bruce Wayne. Considering the heavy weight of the cards, he doubted the Waynes were hurting for the money as if the ornate room weren't evidence enough.

There was a collection of business cards that said Bruce Wayne was the CEO of Wayne Enterprises. Jeez. Hopefully Wayne Enterprises was find handling things on their own for a little while, Tucker and Sam were the business brains behind the former Fentonworks, now rebranded to Realms Tech. He was always more of an inventor.

There was also a collection of photos. He lifted the wallet as the clear photo holders unfolded. Quite the collection of photos. There were numerous pictures of Bruce Wayne with different kids, and even more with just the kids themselves. Many of them had black hair, but there was one red head girl in a wheel chair and a blonde girl as well.

Bruce Wayne had kids. Danny couldn't help a warm smile from gracing his lips. A lot of kids apparently. After having to deage Ellie so she could stabilize Danny and his partners had taken on the responsibility (and wonderful gift honestly) of raising her back to adulthood. It had given them the baby bug a bit. But with Sam refusing to be pregnant it left them with limited options. Unfortunately they were afraid of adopting because of their liminality and how the ecto radiation would effect the kids. It was nice to know that an alternate version of the Danny ended up with Danny's dream of a big family.

None of the pictures were labeled, so Danny couldn't figure out the names for his alternate's many children. So he turned his attention to the two framed photos. One of was a group shot that seemed to have all the kids from the wallet photos.

Bruce was front and center in an arm chair, and there were kids all over him. The eldest, who had been photographed in gymnastics attire was draped across Bruce's shoulders. Another boy was suppressing a smile with a surly look as he stood with his arms crossed over his chest, some of his hair dyed white. His look was mirrored by the youngest looking child, the only one who seemed to share any traits with Bruce, standing on his other side.

The blonde from earlier was leaning heavily on an asian girl, knocking her into a boy who looked like hadn't slept in a week. All three of them had smiles of different sizes, but all looked happy and relaxed. An african-american boy leaned against the red head's wheelchair and was subtly holding up rabbit ears behind the youngest's head.

Danny's smile threatened to strain his facial muscles. This man was loved. Even the frame itself had its corners worn down to show how often it was handled.

It was only signed with "Remember you're not alone, Old Man! ~ D." Danny didn't know which one of the kids was D, but he hoped Bruce took the reminder to heart. It was so easy to lose this.

The other photo was of Bruce standing with a very proper looking older gentleman. Both men were giving the same small, tired smiles and leaning on each other slightly. The back read, "Alfred and Master Bruce." Master Bruce? A butler perhaps? But obviously one loved and treated like family. This picture was a few years old and sat with Bruce's other family at his bedside table.

A soft knock at the bedroom door was the only warning Danny had before Alfred himself walked in, before stopping in surprise.

"Ah, already awake Master Bruce? I was afraid I would have to drag you out of bed for breakfast." Alfred said with a British accent, then he glanced at the picture frames in Danny's hands. "Feeling sentimental this morning?"

Danny smiled and set the two photos down on the nightstand. Then he patted Alfred on the shoulder.

"Surely you can allow an old man a moment of sentimentality?" Danny allowed the smile to fade from his face, clearly his alternate was much of a smiler. "What were you saying about breakfast?"

"I was just informing you that breakfast will be ready soon. It's a full house, so do try to make yourself presentable." Alfred said, with his same precise diction, as he looked Danny up and down.

"Of course. I'll be down in a moment, Alfred." Danny said and Alfred gave a quick nod before leaving, closing the door behind him as he went.

Alright Danny, time to pretend to be Bruce Wayne.

Danny is an Alternative Universe version of bruce Wayne. They get switched through some hijinks and Danny is trying to be Bruce-like and just trying to act like a Good Dad to these children his alternate self has amassed (holy shit). Like, He's doing his best to attend school plays and parent-teachers conferences (because Alfred still reminds Bruce of all of them even if he says he can't make it) and is doing no batman stuff (because Danny is unaware there is even such thing as batman stuff).

i'm late to the party here but i'm daily driving linux mint so i feel like i might be able to give some helpful info if you haven't already gotten all the answers you needed!

im seeing everyone saying ubuntu, mint, and zorin are "the #1 go to versions for beginners" but like… which is it?

ubuntu styles itself more like android and mac os. it seems unconventional and alien to a windows user, but it does have a lot of tutorials and official support from software vendors. i tend to only recommend ubuntu to people if they like how it looks specifically and want that experience. mint is based on ubuntu, so it has almost all that support, but it looks a lot more conventional - a lot like a windows machine. windows users tend to prefer mint over ubuntu as complete beginners, and i recommend mint to newbs. zorin is probably the one that looks the most like windows, but it has some weird freemium stuff going on - it'll try to make you pay money for things that are free on mint and ubuntu. i don't recommend it to people, but if you like it, it's your choice to use it. i don't think it's worth it, personally - mint is familiar enough for most people while still having its own identity and allowing you to get familiar with linux's differences from windows and mac!

you don't need an antivirus on linux! there are few enough home users of linux that there really aren't many people making viruses that work on linux, and the user has so much control that it's easier to just delete the virus if it does get onto your computer. i've never gotten a virus in all my time using linux! linux mint comes with a firewall, which is most likely all the protection you'll ever need.

what to expect when first getting a prebuilt pc with the OS, like the system 76 pcs

it'll probably have what linux mint calls an "OEM install", which is going to be just like first time setup on windows - you press the power button, linux boots immediately, and asks you to enter things like your username and password. you answer those simple questions, and it sets itself up for a few minutes, and it's ready to use! your mileage may vary, though - it probably depends on the manufacturer, and i can't say i've ever used a system76 laptop.

any suggestions for computers would be nice (max price is $1,300)

you can buy an older generation framework laptop for sub-$1000, but they're all on back order and may take months to arrive. framework laptops are made to be easy for an everyday person to repair and upgrade, and a framework is my personal dream laptop. it should also have very good linux support, buuut... you can't get one with linux preinstalled from the vendor right now. however, you can get a thinkpad from lenovo's website with ubuntu preinstalled, from a wide variety of trim levels and prices! their selection changes regularly, so i can't recommend a specific model. the link to shop in the us is https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/d/linux-laptops-desktops/

the VR headset with the best linux support is the steamvr headset, but it's a premium headset for a very high price. htc vive is also better linux supported than oculus, but even an oculus headset may work on linux - i still game on my 2017 oculus rift CV1 from time to time!

i have a wacom tablet and it works perfectly in krita on linux! huion tablets appear to have functioning drivers for linux, but i can't personally vouch for them - i've only ever had this wacom.

it's possible to run medibang on linux from what i've seen but it definitely isn't easy and i wouldn't trust it as a daily art program. krita is developed on linux by a linux desktop environment (kde) devteam - it is the only professional art program that is developed for linux first and foremost. the long term, reliable, stable option for a linux art program for most people is going to be krita. i understand if that's disappointing, but it's the reality right now and i don't want to get your hopes up. there are ways to open medibang project files without medibang, but like most project file formats, you're probably going to lose some details and the result may not be usable. it's better to open your projects in medibang on windows and then export them in some format that you'll be able to read with a linux photo editor like krita or gimp (.kra and .xcf are their project formats) - it may be the only way to preserve certain details, if doing so is possible at all. i can't say i'm familiar with medibang project files specifically, though, so someone who knows more about them may have a different opinion.

libreoffice (the linux office suite that comes with linux mint and many other distributions) can open microsoft office files with no problem. you may have issues with all the fonts not loading, though; many fonts on windows are created by microsoft and licensed in a way that makes it impossible to package them with other operating systems. otherwise document files will load fine. (side note, microsoft office can also open libreoffice document formats like .odt with no issues, and it can even export word documents as .odt! you won't need to do this but it might be good to know if you have to transfer files between a linux and windows machine.)

Preferences:

It ONLY comes with Linux. I despise what Windows has become and don't want to even bother dual booting cause I feel with the switchovers happening they're gonna get salty and make something that'll turn your computer into a bomb if you use Linux with it.

Kinda beefy but not a supercomputer. I don't use AI stuff, I'm not a programmer, but I do frequently play modded Minecraft with my friends and run smps for my Discord servers. I recently switched to Modrinth cause ATLauncher had been giving me trouble. Curseforge is out of the question.

At the most, I'll be playing VRChat with friends while having Spotify or Youtube in the background for music and Discord open in case someone needs my help in one of my servers, similar goes for running one of my SMPs just minus the VR.
