I have faith that Hanabi's insult has a deeper meaning in the plot, they have been building it up too well to remain in nothing!

There have certainly been racist things and off-topic comments in Hoyoverse games, but never like this, there has to be something!

The thing is, I really feel that it is too early to say whether the insult was unnecessary or not, because racism is a real issue and there is no problem in representing it, there is no problem in representing minorities... The thing is, I really want to believe, that it is missing, because there is still a lack of story, and they haven't finished with Aventurine to say that it was a bad representation, more people may even appear!

I really have a lot of faith in Hoyoverse, because for me they are MiHoyo, that company that makes beautiful games and gives the opportunity to dozens of people to be artists, writers, musicians and also bring joy. MiHoyo gave me and gives me beautiful moments, but it can also be crude when dealing with its topics

k The story of Aventurine is missing, the story of all the people like Aventurine is missing, so much is missing, as marketing is doubtful, but I am not going to rush to criticize something that is NOTHING finished

If in the end everything was for nothing and they wasted that opportunity to address a serious issue, then I have to cry, no way, you don't defend the indefensible, but I don't want to unfairly cross out something

There is still about 3 weeks left to find out about Aventurine and if everything was really "unnecessary", and until then it seems fool to me to criticize something unresolved and so obvious, which is for the plot

¿Do you want to make your villain racist because your story lends itself to that? You can do it, but it will take time to develop, and we don't give it the time, there are still 1 or 2 updates left

I won't deny that Hoyoverse has provided tons of comfort and joy to billions of people all over the world. I won't deny that there's a beauty in their games. There's absolutely no shame in taking comfort in these games and consuming it. I can't blame anyone for being attached to genshin or hsr or hi3 or tears of themis, you get the idea.

But I can't lie to you guys and say that there's still a possibility that this would turn out well. I've witnessed how Hoyoverse handled the entirety of Sumeru. Are there some aspects of Sumeru that were good? Undoubtedly. It's one of the regions I had the most fun exploring.

However it's extremely telling to me that they haven't learned at all from that situation considering they keep insisting on adding racism plotlines to their story.

My faith in them to handle this properly and with care is in the absolute negatives since the Sumeru situation. I fear for what will happen when Natlan finally drops and to no one's surprise, the archon is gonna be white again and this whole song and dance will repeat just like a samsara.

At the end of the day, Hoyoverse is just another money hungry gacha company who wants to drain your wallets.

It's evident from the dogshit anniversary rewards in genshin,

it's evident from how they always design their characters to be these appealing anime waifu or husbando without ever straying from the standard formula of "thin white/slightly tan character with clothes that make fans bark like a dog",

it's evident in how they seem to drop more money on advertising than they drop on actually improving the game,

and it's evident with how little they actually listen to players' feedback.

Selling these characters and turning up a profit comes first, the story comes second. I'd rather trust a racism plotline in the hands of an indie creator who actually cares about the storytelling medium and does research than a corporation who HAS the resources to do the research but chooses not to.

Hoyoverse is special to many people, but it's time to wake up. Clinging onto a multi-billion company like this isn't healthy.

When people say the "boycott has fail" I feel that is because they have this idea that all of Hoyoverse fans are whalers. I mention this on another user ask box. I have been playing Genshin since the second Lantern rite but I stopped playing during Fontaine.

In that period I pulled for 15 limited 5 star characters. And I have only spent money on Cyno after that I saved up and skip banners that I can wait next time. People who do whale it because they want c6 characters and make their team so OP and do one shots. But I have friends who have c0 characters and with proper built they can still achieve that same level of OP as a c6 character. It won't be powerful but enough to clear out domains and battles

Exactly!! I used to be a heavy whaler, but I never c6’d a character, I’ve also just been playing since theeeee 3rd patch of genshin I believe, but like all my friends who play? Girl they barely spend any money, and now that spend NONE.

The majority of players are people who are at most getting the battle pass, and welkin, and maybe spending some when the shop refreshes around hyv’s anniversary. Most players are not big spenders, let alone whales. While whales contribute a shit ton of money, even whales are either quitting, or boycotting too- or just moving to other games, which I can’t blame them. You can achieve batshit insane dmg with well built characters, and good teams- and even whales understand that to a degree, so like… they’ll be fine without a c6 r5 character.

I'm surprised people don't like zenless zone zero as much as genshin. Like don't get me wrong, if your only experience with hoyoverse was genshin like mine was, it can be a bit (a lot) off putting to not have a fully open-world game, but given how many places there are and how much there is to do, it doesn't really feel like a loss, y'know? Like even in Genshin, only a percent of places really matter, and most people I know use teleportation extremely frequently unless they need to level up.

Zenless just kinda streamlines this. You can explore still, and you can take pictures of cats, and meet interesting people, but you don't need to run everywhere on the map to figure out where to find what you need to level up. You accept commissions to level up, you can do those commissions just around the town sometimes- like, I do wish there was more area to run around in, but what areas we do have don't exactly feel small.

Also, in my humble opinion, the story for zenless is way more fun and Interesting to me. I like that your first mission is a corrupt business willing to sacrifice the lives of civilians for profit, I like that the cleaner and more ethical business is being thrown under the bus at every turn because they're not old money, I like that the characters play off of each other, I even like that not every character has a massive, life-altering effect on the plot.

Like, I think it's super cool that every character in genshin has a deep effect on the plot of genshin, but there's just so many characters and so much going on. And I understand that that is precisely why some people love it, but it gets a little exhausting you know? Why does every character have to matter to the plot? To the point you can forget a metric ton of contributions if you forget a single character's story?

I really like the zenless approach more. In zenless, not every character is plot-relevant, but every character is people-relevant. Maybe Corrin won't have anything to do with the full plot! But she matters to Elle and the other maids. Maybe Nekonata won't personally create a new hollow after chapter one! But she matters to Nicole, to Belle, to the red fang gang, and that's what matters. Like you get to witness these interpersonal relationships that may not mean a damned thing in the grand scheme of things! But they mean everything to the people who are right there.

Idk, I love both games, but I really really love games where it's like "it didn't matter, but the love was there" and Zenless is so delivering on that.

ofc, anon! fair warning that this post is going to be text heavy bc i wanna cover as much as i can. i’m going in with the assumption that you have little exp with gacha games. however feel free to skip whatever u already know

GENERAL TIPS

- to be honest, the best way to understand what is going on with genshin is just to take your time and play. it’s the best way to get into the game imo! like for me, i didn’t fully understand the game until i was like AR 45+ and i’m still learning to this day! so that’s the #1 tip i will give you haha! nothing better than discovering things on your own and having it ‘click’

- take your time with the story, really. mihoyo (now called hoyoverse) is well-known for their elaborate lore and story so take the time to let that sit

- any character can be DPS so play who interests you the most! no characters are ever weak

- if you plan to be smart on who you want to pull for, i recommend looking at character leaks to help make an informed decision

- you’ll spend a large amount of time farming and improve your characters when you’re AR45+ so don’t worry about making your character strong ASAP. i’ll elaborate on this further

PLAYSTYLE

what kind of player will you be? and how will your previous experiences with other games fit into it? it can influence how you enjoy genshin

- meta player: live for unga bunga numbers, always striving to improve their characters or get the highest scores

- collector: collects all waifus/husbando

- free to play: don’t spend a single coin

- spender: spend every now and then

- whale: spoils their character and spends a ton of money

- avg player: a mix of everything

this way you can set goals and expectations for yourself bc this game can be very repetitive and grindy which can speed up burnout

WISHING FOR CHARACTERS

this is a huge part of the game so i will be more detailed here. i will be referencing the banner that is live as of this post, 2.5 or yae miko’s banner

so i just want to preface that genshin is a gacha first and it can be extremely predatory. therefore, always take precautions if you know you have bad impulse control. that being said:

- there are currently 3 types of currency: intertwined fates (pink, used on limited character banner, weapon banner), acquaint fate (blue, used only on standard banner), and primogems (used to buy a plethora of things but in this context, can be exchanged for the fates). 

- there are 3 banner type: limited (characters), weapon, and standard (weapon + characters)

- familiarize yourself with the pity system which is the # of time you need to wish to get a 5* character or weapon. know that you can literally get a 5* in your first pull EVER so know that it’s all RNG. the chance of you getting a 5 star is 0.06%

on character banner, the soft pity is around 76 pulls while hard pity is 90 pull but i have yet to know a single person that actually hit 90 pity. there is something called ‘50/50′, which is when you finally pull a 5* there is a fifty-fifty chance you get the promotional character. losing 50/50 means you got a 5* character from the standard banner pool (diluc, mona, qiqi, jean, keqing) and your next 5* is guaranteed to be yae, the promotional character. winning 50/50 means well... you got yae without having to another 76 pull! and pulling a 5* rests your pity :)

on weapon banner, soft pity is around 50-60 pulls and hard pity is 80 pulls. pulling on this banner is not recommended for f2ps or low spender bc it can take more than 200 pulls to get the weapon you want. pull here at your own risk. the pity system there is called epitomized path. i wish i can explain it simply but i’m not very good at it LMAO the in-game explanation is pretty clear imo

- pull on the beginner's wish banner (it has noelle on it)! that should give you some nice weapons/characters to start with

- never spend your primos on standard banner (the very far right, blue/purple banner). it is almost never worth it, even if you’re close to pity. you’re not guaranteed a weapon or character so it is a huge gamble

- make sure you pulling on the right banner!! i’ve heard so many stories of people converting to the wrong type of fates lMAO

- new 4* character/weapon gets added the following patch. none of the new 5* weapon/character have yet to be added and i don’t think it’ll happen for long awhile.

ADVICE FOR PULLING

- pull for who you like, like seriously. primogems and fates are hard to get so make sure you love the character you’re getting

- if you’re f2p, you will have to accept the fact that you will skip banners

- new character > getting constellations/best weapon

GAMEPLAY

- when you’re playing in overworld (the open world where ur free to explore), don’t worry about team composition and damage, the game will not punish you for having weak characters or wack team comps. the world is your oyster when you’re in overworld

- abyss is where you can challenge and test the progress of your team. you earn primos here. it can be very stressful and sweaty so i don’t recommend it until you’re fully prepped

- learn about elemental reactions. this is where the majority of your damage will come from. there is a domain in mondstadt that will teach you the basics of it!

- and of course, explore your heart out!

LEVELING CHARACTERS + RESIN USAGE

- confused about what to level up first? i recommend: character ascension > weapon ascenscion > talent

as for what type of character to prioritize, i recommend: main DPS > secondary > support/dmg buffer > healer

- level DPS up to level 90, supports/healers can stay at 80 OR ascend them without leveling them up so you can worry about talents. 

- resin is the little crescent moon thing you see on the top of the map. you generate 1 every 8 minutes, up to 160 resin. you will use this to farm materials for your characters (like literally EVERYTHING lmao) 

early game (lower than AR45), i just recommend you use your resin to level and ascend your character, weapons and talents. try not to farm artifacts because you will only get purples pieces when you actually want gold

- artifacts is a huge part of making your character stronger but it can be extremely tedious bc artifacts are also RNG-based and it can take you months to get good pieces

this is why i recommend you don’t focus on farming domains for artifacts until you’re AR45 or higher bc you’re guaranteed a gold artifact piece 

until then, use your resin to farm bosses or talent domains (if ur at the right level) to level up your characters

CONCLUSION

so as you can see, there’s a LOT to take in. but don’t worry you will come to understand this as you play. once everything ‘click’ and in place, this game will be as easy as pie lmao. so just enjoy yourself. play however you want to plan and have fun!! <3 this is a PvE game so there is no pressure to be the best.

if you keep pouring money into hoyoverse despite the problematic things they’re doing, nothing is ever going to change. unfortunately most companies are motivated by money but you, as the consumer, have the power whether they get that money or not
