So I started writing an reply to you but then realised that you're whole post is about analogue tape storage and I'm talking about digital tape storage ... It's Friday night so my brain wasn't really thinking when I started writing...

I'm going to send what I have written, but apologies if you already know all of this, and/or it's completely irrelevant to your needs.

Until recently my job has been orientated around LTO tape storage. Over the next six months I'll be migrating data from LTO tapes to a cloud system due to accessibility and cost factors.

I don't know enough about the process that you use to know whether any of the softwares might be compatible? The more I think about it, the more it seems pretty unlikely tbh. I'm talking about data being written in a digital format to a specially designed tape cartridge, it's not really in the same field.

Anyway, as a really cool coincidence (I think it's cool anyway) a couple of weeks ago I met one of the guys who developed LTO technology when he worked at HP on the 90s. He now works for another company building switches for broadcast infrastructure.

I'm likely to see him again in a week (we met at a hobby), if you'd like me to pick his brains about any compatibility in how the data could br interpreted from analogue tape recordings, I'd be more than happy to see if he thinks there is any overlap. Based on my chat with him it might actually be something he would be interested in exploring, but I could be wrong!

So on top of that, I also know a few people who are really into glitch (?) audio/video, I can't remember what it's called but there's a whole scene of it where I live. Like going from analogue to digital and back again with creative distortion. This might be more relevant... Again I can ask around for any crossover if you think there might be some?
