What's the purring thing like now that it's updated?

Predominantly, a mimic's 'purring' is a holdover from them being in the void. When they aren't in the material plane (our world), they naturally vibrate at a frequency that matches the background noise still left behind from the Big Bang. They aren't really aware that they're doing it, it's just as natural as breathing is to humans, and because of the frequencies coming from the void around them, they can't even hear that they're doing it anyway.

In the material plane though, 'purring' becomes a sort of self-soothing thing. When a mimic longs to be back where it knows it is safe (the void), it will create the same frequency. It's not so much an emotionally driven soothing thing as it is an instinctive thing to keep it level-headed and an efficient predator. M!Cesar (and other mimics like Daniel/Nobody) with his humanity has found that there is now an emotional quality to this act - when he is overwhelmed/stressed/upset and alone, he will emit this frequency to feel safe. When he is very happy or content, he will also do it out of a desire to share that happiness with those around him, to make them feel as safe and good as he does, too.

The problem is that the sound made is generally uncomfortable for human ears to listen to. It involves a lot of heavy static, grains, pops, and even high-pitched whistles/shrieks. It also picks up interference from nearby radios, televisions, and anything transmitting sound (such as baby monitors), so sometimes disjointed words and clips of music or TV shows/broadcasts are mashed up into it.

It's pretty much uncharted territory for a mimic like m!Cesar because it's never happened before. It's not supposed to happen. And he can't always help it, but he does manage to get a grasp on stomping it down enough that it can't be heard. But when he does that, he's left feeling oddly jumbled up, like he's having to hold back some part of himself.

The plan is to have him eventually figure it out enough that he can channel the sounds a little better and make them more refined, usually into shapes/tones that he knows Mark likes. So imagine, if you will, them huddled up on the couch/bed together and m!Cesar 'purring' but very gently weaved through it all is Mark's favourite songs or lines of dialogue from his favourite films. M!Cesar mostly 'purrs' because of Mark anyway, so it makes sense for the sound itself to reflect that. For it to be tailored to the one person he loves more than anything else.

Not that he'd ever tell Mark he did that though lol

Anyways god who knew that 2 months of almost exclusively drawing furries would get me to actually STRUGGLE drawing humans again huh. HAH. This was a nice practice…more incoming CUZ I MISS THESE GUYS.

P.S: Btw (to those that happen to remember), I am planning to redo that one drawing with the updated designs. Fun stuff!

Oh for sure lol

But I think there would be that second where m!Cesar kisses him and no matter how angry he is in that moment, it manages to cut through. Some small, weaker part of himself wants to believe it really is Cesar... And so he caves for a minute, just to pretend that it's really him and not some cheap imitation, you know?

forgiveness/grace/resolving a misunderstanding

Mark wasn't sure how to feel as he wearily eyed the creature still mostly wearing his best friend's skin. Mostly, as the events over the past several days left his face marred with scars all over his eye and neck. Said eyes, dark and cat-like, were fixed on Mark, yet there wasn't a trace of predatory hunger. There lied the source of Mark's confusion: the mimic that killed his friend, that nearly killed him, was the one backed into a corner out of fear.

As if noticing Mark’s exhausted bewilderment, his eyes flicked from Mark to a silver handle poking out from under his jacket. He could only sigh.

“I'm not gonna kill you, if that's what you're worried about.” There were times when Mark somehow knew what he intended despite him never saying a word. Perhaps that was a quirk of his odd abilities. Perhaps enough traces were left of Cesar for Mark to find familiarity in his twisted copy.

“Me neither,” he replied, looking back to Mark with wide eyes.

“Is that so?” Had Mark not wanted to keep the mimic in his line of sight, he would've rolled his eyes. “Doesn't sound like the words of someone who pushed me off a building not too long ago.”

“I'm not proud of that.” Cracks showed in his fear, sorrow peeking through as his gaze drifted vacantly to the side. “I… I suppose the word is remorse. Despair. Somewhere in that spectrum.”

“You're not used to feelings, are you?” Given the slight tilt of his head, it seemed Mark took the words out of his mouth.

“Not before I met you.”

“Great. Like I'm not special enough.” Mark sighed, slumping into his chair.

“That's why I don't want to fight you. I don't want to… hunt.” Mark instantly perked up, gazing at the mimic halfway between disbelief and hope.

“Is… Is that why you did what you did at the church…?” The words almost felt like they weren't Mark's, though he was the one who said them. Said strangeness didn't make the words any less true. Mark's next words, however, were definitively his own. “I… I guess I should apologize for shooting you then, yeah?”

“As should I for killing you.”
