chaotic/dark academia clothes and accessories that aren't tweed blazers, dress pants, and briefcases (because sometimes i want my aesthetic to be comfy and kinda subtle)
university sweatshirts, especially the ones with the school's crest on it!
corduroy pants. i like the green, burgundy, and dark tan ones. corduroy shorts are also really cute if it's hot out!
plain white sundress, you can dress it up or down
dark jeans (grey or black)
honestly as far as pants go, classic grey sweatpants. they work with every color and are so comfy, perfect for a long study session or a trip to the library
oversized sweaters and polos, thrifted if possible!
shirts with art on them or from art/history museums
canvas tote bags. the iconic new yorker tote fits the aesthetic so perfectly for me. totes from local bookstores are also awesome and a great way to support them!
class rings and rings with your initial(s) on them
plain soft tshirts with a breast pocket or a little embroidered logo on the chest. i especially love the brooks brothers logo
doc martens are always great, but i also love the black and white adidas superstars for a more casual look. you can find them marked way down on depop!
huarache sandals, idk why but they are classic shoes. pretty sure my grandmother had a pair
satin scrunchies
BOBBEY PINS these are v important
those coil hair ties. they are gentle on the hair and come in lots of colors! i always find them at tj maxx/marshall's
a baseball cap with the logo of your dream university on it!!! looks really cute with a low ponytail if your hair is long enough (mine is not, sadly)
a hand-knit scarf! seriously, learn how to knit or crochet and make yourself a scarf. very easy to learn, inexpensive, and you can make it look however you want!

Fashion in Boys Run The Riot pt.1
-Fashion Fridays-
Being fastidious, I would define streetwear as fashion you see on the street, worn by everyone you see and in every setting you see. Clothes that serve a purpose, sneakers for walking long distances, sweatshirts that are comfy and warm, jackets that protect you from the rain. What if the utility of these pieces could also match with design and colour and your own style? What if you were able to connect on an emotional level with your own clothing?
Streetwear has a deeper meaning behind the pieces you wear, behind the design, even behind the brand. Streetwear started as an expression of one's self identity, to send a message out there that our fashion indeed defines us as whatever we want to be.
This is were Boys Run the Riot comes in. The manga series by Keito Gaku where trans boy Ryo Watari and his love for streetwear helps him deal with a hostile world that just doesn’t understand him. His partnership with Jin Satou, a new student with the same passion for clothing, and the creation of their streetwear brand gets the ball rolling in this awesome story.
Tumblr media
Jin’s first appearance in the manga.
Classic hoodie under student jacket combination, Jin wears his white hoodie unzipped over a white t shirt. He’s also wearing a pendant on his neck, I believe it’s a small ring that hangs from his chain. Dark sunglasses and hoop earrings complete his fit.
Tumblr media
I love how the details of Jin’s look are given their own panel: the all black Jordan Legacy 312′s *, the perfectly lined undercut fade and the earrings. Jin takes great care of himself and pays attention to every detail of his outfit.
*I’m not seeing the Air Jordan logo on the side tab of his sneakers, but the design is spot on. My first thought was Air Force highs, but the Nike strap and the little bit of midsole we see were a giveaway for me.
I thought the choice of this specific model of Jordan was interesting. The Legacy 312 was a collaboration by Don C, and it includes design details from other sneakers: the Air Jordan 1, the Air Jordan 3 (my personal favourite) and the Nike Air Alpha Force Low. It's a controlled chaos of design elements that fit well together. And it's a great way to point out that Jin is a guy that goes against the classic or the typical model of a design, he likes taking risks.
Tumblr media
Ryo’s first outfit in the manga.
The patterned sports coat is a loud statement by Ryo. He manages to match it well with the hoodie underneath. I'm not a fan of sweatpants, specially with the lateral stripe, but Ryo makes it work. Fashion favours the bold.
Tumblr media
The boys are out on a shopping trip and they treat us to another version of their own style. I like how they don’t have the same design elements in their outfits every time we see them in new fits.
Ryo sporting a very nice hip bag slung across his chest, the strap is thick and the bag itself looks spacious, love the simple design. He’s in an oversized sweatshirt and also wearing sweatpants with the lateral stripe. I like how the sweatshirt fits him from the shoulders and down to his arms, it looks comfortable and trendy. He’s also bringing out the accesories with the two chains around his neck.
Jin is a little more dressed up with the denim jacket over a white shirt. He’s wearing straight-fit black jeans that are slightly baggy but they look good on the silhoutte he’s going for. Boxy on the top, and tighter on the bottom. Jin’s got the industrial belt* hanging from his right side, he’s a trendy guy I tell you!
*Unsure if it’s THE industrial belt from Virgil Abloh’s OFF-WHITE, but I decided to describe it as such, for all intents and purposes, to avoid any confusion on what the accesory was.
Tumblr media
Ryo wearing Air Huaraches, the OG version, and Jin wearing classic Air Force lows in all white.
Tumblr media
Ryo taking a walk, trying to find inspiration for his brand on the streets of his hometown. Once again, wearing his lateral stripe sweatpants, he’s also sporting a chequered unstructured cap with a strap back.  Let me tell you something awesome about Boys Run The Riot: the mangaka, Keito Gaku, is taking inspiration from IRL streetwear brands from Japan!
Tumblr media
The sweatshirt that Ryo is wearing during his walk is from a Japanese brand called Dargo, I found it online and it is just as cool as it looks in the manga! The white stitching around the chest pocket is superb detailing. According to their website, this piece is 100% cotton, 10.0 onz Mid Weight.
Pretty cool that Ryo supports local brands.
Tumblr media
The last piece I want to bring attention to, is the boys’ first t-shirt design. A basic white shirt with a graffiti design on the left side of the chest and a surprise print under the left sleeve, visible only if you roll it a couple of times.
I’m very excited about this manga, and can’t wait to show you more oufits next week!

Do you have any favourite pieces in your wardrobe? Let me know!

Did Nike Release New Shoes?
Tumblr media
The swoosh logo is iconic in the industry as the symbol of a true giant. And a true giant it is, without any shadow of a doubt. Nike has been a household name for decades in the sports industry. The branding is universally recognisable and has the massive weight of its years-long legacy to uphold. Nike sneakers are undoubtedly amongst the top tier, in terms of design, influence and impact on the market itself. One doesn't become giants by merely resting on their laurels after all. The legacy of Nike’s sneaker brand was built upon the release of several iconic products over the many years of its operation. The Air Force 1, Air Max 1, Air Jordan 1, Air Huarache, Nike Waffle Racer, Nike Cortez, Air Jordan 11, Nike Air Max 90, and so many other products have graced the shelves of stores around the world over the years which changed the industry for the better.
Pushing the envelope isn't just the job of the underdog after all. Nike has continuously pushed the envelope in the industry, pushing the industry forward along with them. It is quite admirable in hindsight how these giants have helped form a sector, unlike any other. The athletic footwear segment has had massive popularity for a number of years now. The hype surrounding each new product is palpable and almost always over the top. Enthusiasm for the industry has helped retain a lot of loyal customers over the years. As a matter of fact, it has spawned several forums and other means of discussion dedicated only for shoes. While it may have been a bit ridiculous a few years back, it is part of the culture now. One would be remiss not to mention the cultural impact of these shoes. For what it's worth, they aren't just mere shoes but something that not only influences the people who belong to particular cultures but also has a considerable worldwide appeal. Bundle that in with hip-hop and basketball, and you've got a recipe for long-term success. The relationship between these crossover industries has always been symbiotic in nature. Very much of an "I help you, and you help me" kind of a deal.  So far, this symbiosis has spelt success for companies brave enough to take the risk. Nike has certainly gone out of its way to collaborate and improve the industry. From the Air Jordans to the Air Yeezys and countless others in between, Nike has taken a chance with each of these to bring out new shoes in the regular. We take a look at the latest shoes Nike will release and has released in recent times.
Tumblr media

How many professional athletes are so legendary that they are celebrated around the globe and throughout social media on back to back days? The answer is one, and that is Kobe Bryant. With a birthday that lands on 8/23 and “Mamba Day” that lands on 8/24, which are the two jersey numbers that Kobe Bryant wore during his career, the Black Mamba is still top of mind for sneakerheads. The longevity and importance of Kobe Bryant signature sneakers cannot be overstated. From his early years, fresh out of high school and signed with adidas, through his free agency year during the 2002-2003 season, his 11 signature sneakers with Nike before he retired, and even beyond, thanks to the Nike Kobe AD line, the Black Mamba’s sneakers have been at the forefront of performance basketball shoes.
As you scroll through this list of the best Kobe Bryant signature sneakers, keep in mind that we only included models with Kobe’s name or initials included. That means shoes that may be associated with him, like the adidas Top Ten 2000, Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4, Nike Zoom Huarache 2K5, and the countless exclusive colorways he’s had along the way in various models are not included.
20. Nike Kobe AD Mid
Nick Says: To me, the AD Mid comes across as very lazy. It doesn’t look much different from the previous model, and it’s just kind of boring. What they did with the layered knit Swoosh was dope though.
19. Nike Kobe AD 2016
Robbie Says: It’s not the Kobe AD did anything particularly wrong, it’s just the fact that it didn’t do anything particularly right… It was low, it had the Kobe logo and utilized Zoom cushioning, but outside of that everything was extremely ‘meh.’ Kudos to the stylish, Vegeta-like, heel clip though, that was awesome.
18. Nike Kobe AD NXT
Nick Says: Between the backward-facing Swoosh, the shroud, and the quick lace system underneath it, the AD NXT stands out from the rest of the retirement-era AD models. If this model received better colorways and some more on-court appearances, it would be much higher on the list.
17. adidas KB8 3
Nick Says: Most people have been wearing a piece of the adidas KB8 3 for the past few years and they don’t even know it. The YEEZY 500 uses the same tooling as this Kobe Bryant signature sneaker that originally released in 1999. To me, it’s a perfect representation of the era. In fact, if you look closely, you can kind of see the similarities in the shape of the And1 Tai Chi, which Vince Carter won the dunk contest in that same season.
16. adidas KB8 2
Nick Says: The adidas KB8 II was another that utilized Feet You Wear technology. If you hooped in these back in the day, they are probably higher up your list. The layered paneling and three-dimensional textures are still impressive to this day. T-Mac also laced up the white pair when he was playing in Toronto, so there’s that.
  15. Nike Kobe 11
Nick Says: Kobe played his last game in the 11, so it’s important enough that I’d pick up a pair of the Fade To Blacks even though it’s relatively boring. That says everything you need to know about this shoe. Mamba out.
  14. Nike Kobe 3
Nick Says: The Kobe 3 is my least favorite from the early years of the Nike Kobe shoes. I appreciate the attempt to tie in the waffle sole but it just feels like a miss to me.
13. Nike Kobe 2
Nick Says: The Kobe 2 was not as impressive to me as the Kobe 1, but I’m a sucker for straps, so it gets a thumbs up. Looking at it now, the rounded shape of the outsole seems much more drastic than I remember it.
    12. Nike Kobe 7
Nick Says: I love the interchangeable aspects of the Nike Kobe 7 “System” and this release had some of the best commercials of all the Kobe sneakers.
11. adidas Kobe 1
Robbie Says: Kobe was a young bull by 1998 and the Kobe 1 harnessed his new-age style of play within a sneaker with pure style. They’re not for everyone and that’s okay, but you can’t tell me that another shoe looks like the adidas Kobe (in a positive sense).
10. Nike Kobe AD 2018
Robbie Says: Sometimes a shoe just looks good, like darn good, and the latest Kobe AD installment is surely a looker. From a performance standpoint, they shined; and they were Kyle Kuzma’s weapon of choice throughout the 2018-19 season too. Every element of the upper was well throughout and executed perfectly. These are a change in the right direction for Kobe’s post-career kicks.
9. Nike Kobe 10
Robbie Says: Variety is the spice of life, so the Kobe X sure was spicy. I love how they came in 3 versions: Flyknit High, Flyknit Low, and EM and how each variant offered something new to the Kobe X equation. My favorite part of the Kobe X was the cool tooling (midsole/outsole), it’s futuristic and simplistic aesthetic hit every note for me. Oh, and the HTM x Kobe X collection was hands down my favorite HTM pack ever.
  8. Kobe AD NXT 360
Nick Says: The Kobe AD NXT 360 is one of those shoes that has such interesting tech that how it looks doesn’t even matter. The NXT 360 is basically a Flyknit sock with an outsole attached. It wraps completely around your foot, hence the “360” in the name. It’s $200 price point kept me away.
7. Nike Kobe 5
Robbie Says: Kobe’s fifth signature shoe with Nike was great, I’m not denying that one bit, but they didn’t do anything groundbreaking in my opinion. Nike took what worked with the Kobe 4 and refined it, but I look at the 5 as a half-step towards pure greatness rather than a leap. My biggest qualm with the 5 was its plastic-y panel construction – I didn’t like it nearly as much as the Kobe 4, or the Kobe 6. Don’t get it twisted, at the end-of-the-day, I love the Kobe 5.
6. adidas KB8
Nick Says: The adidas KB8, which is now called the adidas Crazy 8, is one of the most important basketball shoes in the modern era. It’s arguably the best basketball shoe adidas made before Boost. There’s also been a lot of good retro colorways over the years, which can’t be said about a lot of retros.
5. Nike Kobe 9
Nick Says: The boxing shoe-inspired style of the high-top version is not for me. However, the quality of materials used on the Kobe 9, and the gratuitous use of carbon fiber, is nothing short of impressive. I’m still on the hunt for a pair of the lows for a decent price.
Nike Kobe 1 x NORT and Nike Kobe 1 x Premium Goods photo by Marvin De La Cruz
4. Nike Kobe 1
Robbie Says: Leather construction, how beautiful you are. 81 points. Legendary colorways. Yup (King of the Hill voice)
Nick Says:
The first signature model from Nike was basically Nike and Kobe flexing on the entire basketball footwear world with a classic design and unmistakeable Swoosh. The numbers Kobe put up in these make it that much more special. Not to mention, Nike’s limited production of the NORT and Premium Goods version changed the way social media and blogs were used to create customized products.
3. Nike Kobe 4
Nick Says: To me, this is the best Kobe signature sneaker of all. I think if you take into consideration Kobe leading the Lakers to their first NBA Championship without Shaq, and the fact that this shoe changed the way people thought about low-cut basketball sneakers, it’s the most impactful sneaker in the whole Kobe legacy.
2. Nike Kobe 8
Robbie Says: Okay, okay, okay, let me defend this pick right quick.
a) With a PPG average of 27.3, Kobe was a walking bucket throughout the 2012-13 season. Proving that will out-weighted age (you know, until he got hurt.
b) The Kobe 8’s Lunarlon was perfect, the cut was ultra-low & offered a fantastic range of motion, and the snake-like EM upper was light and airy.
c) They looked damn good in my book, and it’s my list so please, @ me.
Nick Says:
There were some incredible colorways on the Kobe 8 and I think Engineered Mesh is a very underappreciated technology and this really kicked off the “What The” releases beyond Dunks in my opinion.
1. Nike Kobe 6
Robbie Says: What says Black Mamba more than textured snake print? Nothing, the answer is always nothing. I absolutely adored the 6’s heel clip design, I loved the breathable tongue, I loved the under-foot feel, I loved every aspect of this shoe. There’a pair of Kobe 6 FTBs in my closet alongside some OGs and I can safely say that Nike knows how to flawlessly reproduce this model – can’t wait for the Protro next year.
Nick Says: I can’t rock with any of the snakeskin-like materials in the Kobe line but as I mentioned on the podcast, the launch of the Grinch Kobe 6 on Christmas Day changed the way most of the footwear brands thought about how to market sneakers. It led to me shooting courtside at the Clippers game for Li-Ning and Baron Davis, too. So I respect it, despite not being a fan of the style.

Woven Shoes to Shop Now That Spring Is in Full Swing
Scroll To See More Images
When people go to shop for shoes, their chief concern is rarely textile. Instead, people consider the shape of the shoe, its color, how comfy it is or isn’t, how well it will combine with the rest of their wardrobe. Though many of us are apt to shop denim jumpsuits or leather jackets or satin dresses, our obsession with fiber fails to extend to footwear—until it gets warm outside. Spring and summer force us to acknowledge the exception to this shopping-based rule of thumb; once the sun starts shining on a near-consistent basis, we can’t get our hands on (or our feet into) woven shoes fast enough.
Something about the breezy, bohemian aesthetic of spring and summer inspires us to crave raffia, straw and rope in a way we don’t during any other time of year. Even leather, a timeless textile that tends to transcend seasonality, gets the woven treatment—finding a home in webbed flats, netted block heels and even the occasional pair of braided booties.
These textured pieces ground our light, flowy spring/summer ensembles in something earthy and ever-so-slightly edgy. Woven shoes are the necessary cherry on top of any spring/summer sartorial sundae; they’re the only thing that does our favorite sundresses, or jumpsuits, or matching sets the justice they deserve. Stock up on one pair—or a few—and you’ll surely be wearing them for months to come.
