Summary: Ada Brook’s voice was as bright as her eyes. She smiled at you widely as she spoke—she even went so far as to lean in just a touch, as though you were the oldest of friends, and sharing some great secret.

“Do you wish to go home?” 
The question threw you for a number of reasons. Firstly, it had come from Franklin, and the tone of the query verged on compassionate. Secondly, you were no longer precisely certain where home was. 
Stevensville was where you’d been born, and where you’d matured, but it had felt like a prison for much of your life. San Francisco had been the first place that you’d felt your life and choices had truly been your own, though it had been dimmed by dwindling social and marital prospects. Chicago had been interesting enough, but set as you were on your path, it had felt similar to your time in San Francisco. Albany had felt as confining as your time living with your mother had—your days and actions had been restrained by the critical eye of your family. 
Your hand stilled where it was poised over your needlepoint, brow furrowing, head shaking a touch. 
“Do you wish for me to leave?” You countered, glancing up at him.
“You’ve seemed listless this past week or so. The only time I’ve seen you in good humor is when you’re with Eleanor.”
And that had become a rarity of its down. Eleanor and Gladys had practically been joined at the hip since you’d gone to the Russell’s for tea. You often sent Kate along with her, leaving the house somewhat rudderless. You really did need to hire on more staff, but you’d been dragging your feet as of late. 
“New York doesn’t seem to agree with you,” Franklin added. “If you wish to return to Albany, I would understand.” 
Albany was the last place you wanted to go. In the city, with Franklin, you had purpose, something to work toward. All that awaited you in Albany was a slew of relatives that were at once derisive and pitying of your spinsterhood. 
“Thank you, no," You shook your head. "I merely…I’ve had something of a cloud over my head this last week or so—It has passed now,” You hurried to fib as Franklin’s face twisted in confusion. “Regardless, I will remain here. Besides, how else will you make arrangements for the new home?” 
“I’d manage,” Franklin grumbled, lifting his paper to hide his face. You rolled your eyes. 
“I merely meant that you’ll be too busy with the tannery to arrange all of the details yourself.” 
Franklin let out another grumble from behind the newspaper, and you sank back into your seat, resuming your needlepoint. 
“...Franklin?” 
“Hm?” 
“Thank you for asking.” 
“...Mm.”

“Is this regarding the Hudson and Mohawk Rail Road?”
“No,” George shook his head, warily eyeing the door as Clay pulled it closed. “I need you to make a few inquiries for me—discreetly.” 
“Of course,” Clay nodded. George could see the worry and intrigue in his loyal friend's eyes. Frankly, he felt quite a bit of both himself. 
“I have a short list of names, and questions.” George reached into his pocket, drawing out the list he’d made up last night. On it was her name, and her mother’s, along with a few queries. “I need you to make the trip yourself. I don’t want this delegated to anyone else.” 
“I understand,” Clay nodded, taking the slip from George. “Where will I be going?” 
“Stevensville.”

“Marian tells us that you’ve come to us from Chicago!” Ada Brook’s voice was as bright as her eyes. She smiled at you widely as she spoke—she even went so far as to lean in just a touch, as though you were the oldest of friends, and sharing some great secret. You couldn’t help but smile at her warmth and the way it seemed to permeate the dark, stifled little sitting room. 
“That is right,” You nod, glancing from Ada, to an encouragingly smiling Aurora and Marian, and ultimately, to a glowering Mrs. Van Rhijn. The old matriarch had hardly concealed her distaste for the entire affair since you’ve arrived, and she’d managed to marginally darken that afternoon's tea, even as Marian and Ada's probing questions and bright smiles pushed the conversation along. It was a wonder you'd been allowed in the house at all.
“Have you any plans to return there in the near future?” Mrs. Van Rhijn’s voice cut harshly across the room. You turned to her with a warm smile affixed on your lips. 
“Not at the moment. I’m here to help Mr. Hughes set up his house before I return to our family in Albany.” 
“Marian did tell us that, Agnes,” Ada reminded her sister lightly. You fought back a grin as Mrs. Van Rhijn cut her a sharp look in return. Before the conversation could continue, you heard a knock at the door. The group of you turned to find their stately looking butler at the door. 
“Pardon the intrusion. There is a message for Mrs. Van Rhijn and Mrs. Fane.” 
The two rose from their seats, offering gentle apologies and nods before leaving the room. Your gaze narrowed a touch. A message. For the two of them? A ruse, surely. 
You turned back to find Marian and Ada watching you with patient smiles. 
“They’re off to gossip about me, aren’t they?” You asked knowingly. Marian’s smile quirked at the question; Ada’s disappeared with an air of abject horror. 
“Oh, no—Surely not!” She insisted. You chuckled softly, leaning back in your seat in. 
“It’s quite alright if they have, Miss Brook. I’m used to the whispers.” 
“Has it happened often? In Chicago and San Francisco?” Marian plied. 
“Yes, but their social circles are hardly as gated as those here in New York,” You admitted. “There were some questions, of course, but hardly as many rounds of them. I feel as though I’m in a cordial boxing match with all of the 400.” 
Ada looked at once scandalized and delighted, her mouth working wordless for just a second before she offered: “Well—If just anyone were allowed in, it could strain the social order.” 
“I take no umbrage with it, Miss Brook," You reassured. "It was merely an unexpected consequence of my trip here.” 
Ada’s smile flickered back into place, though it seemed far more uneasy. 
“I must see what’s keeping them,” She mumbled, rising to her feet and hurrying from the room. You sighed softly, letting your eyes fall closed. 
“I’m afraid I’ve upset her.” 
“Surprised her, perhaps,” Marian conceded, “But I’ve learned in the few months that I’ve been here that Aunt Ada is made of stronger stuff than she lets on.” 
You smiled, resting your elbow on the back of the couch and tipping your head into your palm. 
“It is nice to see you again,” You offered. “If I may ask, where is Miss Scott?” 
“She does not live her anymore,” Marian admitted. There was a heaviness to the words, something that made her brow crinkle just a touch. She pressed on: “Her family is from Brooklyn.” 
“Ah.”
“If I may ask while the others are otherwise occupied—Did you know a Mr. Chamberlain while you were in Chicago?” 
You frowned, your brow furrowing as you wracked your brain for the name. It was vaguely familiar, but you couldn’t make it stick to a face or a place. 
“I don’t believe so.” 
Marian nodded a little, lowering her gaze to her lap.
“I was merely curious. He’s the son of one of the other ladies you may meet at upcoming functions.”
“Mm…I could reach out to my acquaintances in Chicago and ask if any of them are familiar.” 
“Oh, no! Please do not trouble them, or yourself,” Marian reassured, meeting your eyes again. There was something harried in her expression, as though she’d just opened a box that she wasn’t meant to look inside. You gave a small, reassuring nod. 
“If you insist.” 
“Will yourself and Mr. Hughes be attending the ball at Mrs. Fane’s next week?” 
“Yes, we will,” You nodded. “I still need to have a dress made for it.” 
“Did you not bring any from Albany?” 
“I did not think I’d need one. I was only meant to assist Franklin in setting up his home and business. Now his business is in order, but his home is still in disarray.” You considered telling her the truth for a moment, then— “In truth, I’m not a fan of those functions. They’re nice to go to for a little while, but I’ve never been particularly good at formal dancing. And conversation there is always so stilted, and gossipy. I know that Franklin shall have to find his footing in New York, for his and Eleanor’s sakes, but…Well,” You sighed. “I never did suit polite society.” 
Marian’s brow furrowed, and she rose from her chair to sit beside you on the settee. 
“On the contrary,” She insisted, shaking her head. “You’ve been invited into one of the oldest and one of the newest homes in New York. You’ve forged so many relationships, and in such a short period of time. Mr. Hughes and Eleanor are lucky to have you in their corner.” 
You couldn’t help but smile as the sentiment burrowed its way into your chest. You so rarely received encouragement or thanks of this kind from your family. The recognition made tears spring up in your eyes. You drew in a deep breath to steady yourself, lowering your gaze to the velvet as you reached out, gently patting Marian’s hand. 
“You have a marvelous and kind soul, Miss Brook,” You said softly. You watched as she took hold of your hand in both of hers, giving it a soft squeeze. 
“If we are to be friends, you must call me Marian.”

“Did you like her?” 
The question that Marian put to Ada seemed to set a fluttering about in her aunt. She hadn't dared ask it at dinner, lest they both receive the wrath of Aunt Agnes. Now she watched, amused, as Ada stood from her vanity, as if looking for something. When she could no longer stall, Ada turned to where Marian sat at the end of her bed. 
“She is…A very interesting person,” Ada finally managed. 
“I think she is, too,” Marian nodded. “If she did not have her experience and fortitude, I’d worry this city would chew her up and spit her out.” 
“Marian,” Ada chastised, lowering herself back down onto her vanity chair. “That is not polite.”
Marian frowned, drawing her knees up to her chest as she watched Aunt Ada. 
“Did you feel any…Kinship?” She hedged.
“Do you mean because we are both spinsters?” Ada arched a brow at Marian in the mirror, and the look made Marian feel cowed and shamed. Ada answered nevertheless: “It seems that we have walked very different paths in life.” 
“I wonder if there was someone in her past,” Marian let her gaze drift. “Some great love—Perhaps the man didn’t rise to her family’s expectations.” 
“Or perhaps she chose work with her cousin over conventional safety,” Ada offered. “She spoke very highly of him, and seemed knowledgeable regarding his business.” 
Marian hummed in soft agreement. “I don’t think Aunt Agnes liked her very much.” 
Ada twisted in her seat, eyeing Marian. “You know how Agnes feels about the new people.” 
“She made an expectation for Mrs. Russell.” 
“Only because Mrs. Astor forced her hand. She will not be so lenient next time—And neither will Mrs. Astor.”

Last song I heard was Bicstan by Hudson Mohawke. My bf was playing it in the car earlier. It's completely unhinged and the music video is hilarious.
The last song I listened to on my own initiative though was Sweep Me Off My Feet by Pond. In the chorus there's a bit where he sings "baby understand" but to me it just sounds like "baby I'm a sandal". I now refuse to sing along with any other lyrics. He says sandal, right??

Now a few days ago, I had chitchats with Hunty627 and Grantgfan about TTTE characters that are original, and they showed me a lot of their own. I was amazed by that and was inspired by them to make some of my own. And I thought of 16 characters that I thought up of by myself; 8 American locomotives (4 steam and 4 diesel) from the New York Central and the other 8 (4 steam and 4 diesel) from the Pennsylvania Railroad. This post will go over the four steam locomotives of New York Central. So I hope you enjoy reading this post. ^^

Mohawk - Mohawk is a New York Central L4-B Mohawk steam locomotive and his number is #3128. He’s named “Mohawk” because his locomotive type was named after the Mohawk River and the Mohawk locomotives ranged in classes from L1-A to L4-B, and Mohawk himself is an L4-B class Mohawk locomotive. And being that, Mohawk is big and powerful, able to handle both freight trains and passenger trains with ease, and Mohawk can go fast, despite not being streamlined. Mohawk’s personality is good and he’s always willing to help others. He doesn’t mind pulling freight trains; though sometimes he can get a little dirty from it (as shown above), and when he’s done with a freight train, he gets a nice wash down. And Mohawk always loves to be washed.

Niagara - Niagara is a New York Central Niagara type steam locomotive and his number is #6015. He’s named “Niagara” because his locomotive type was named after the Niagara Falls and river. Like Mohawk, Niagara is big and strong, capable of pulling heavy freight trains with ease, as well as passenger trains, and like Mohawk, Niagara can go very fast, despite not being streamlined. Despite being the youngest of the four (having shown up in 1945), Niagara can act like a grandpa from time to time, especially when telling stories. And being a big NYC steam engine like Mohawk, he and Niagara can act like a pair of brothers from time to time. And like Mohawk, Niagara always loves to be washed after handling dirty freight cars like coal cars.

Hudson - Hudson is a streamlined New York Central Hudson and his number is #5450. Hudson is the locomotive that pulls the 20th Century Limited. He’s named “Hudson” because his locomotive type was named after the Hudson River. Hudson is a caring engine, though he can be a little cocky and too proud of himself as he is a streamlined engine.

Steele - Steele is another streamlined New York Central Hudson steam locomotive and his number is #5429. Steele is the locomotive that pulls the Empire State Express, and he’s very proud to be the Empire State Express engine… though sometimes, a little too proud. Now he’s named “Steele” because he and the Empire State Express were streamlined using stainless steel. Steele can be a little too proud of his work (like Gordon) and can be a little too focused about being splendid (like James the red engine). Despite that, Steele is a caring engine and a good friend to his fellow NYC steam engines.
Now that I’ve gone over the four NYC steam locomotives and their personalities, I’m now gonna go over their history; though be warned, it’ll be a little sad.
When these four came out from the works (Hudson in 1937, Steele in 1941, Mohawk in 1942, and Niagara in 1945), they were very glad to be really useful engines, along with the rest of their siblings. When World War II raged on, Hudson, Steele, and Mohawk, along with their siblings, proved to be very reliable in transporting goods and troops during the busier and heavier wartime traffic in World War II. When Niagara and his siblings came into the picture, the war in Europe was over. Despite that, he and his siblings became one of the greatest and best performing 4-8-4 steam locomotives ever built. Into the 1950s, Hudson, Steele, Mohawk, and Niagara enjoyed each other’s company and enjoyed working with their siblings.
However, by 1955, they noticed that less people and goods were being transported by rail; as more and more people and goods were beginning to betray the railroads by using highways and airlines instead. And on top of that, diesels were showing up and began talking about how they’re the engines of the future. And things only got worse when New York Central CEO: Alfred Perlman (driven mad by unfair popularity of highways and airlines, and much of the railroad’s taxes going to the two), ordered ALL steam locomotives to be scrapped. When they heard the news, Hudson, Steele, Mohawk and Niagara were horrified and they were sent into hiding by a handful of friendly diesels (who had sympathy for the steamers). Hudson, Steele, Mohawk and Niagara became soon developed a grudge against highways and airlines. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the four were constantly on the run from being scrapped (like Oliver the Great Western engine), and during so, they saw that more and more diesels were popping up everywhere.
Finally, in February 1980, they were finally found by railroad enthusiasts, steam locomotive fans, and two diesels of the (then new) Amtrak: Ronnie and Terry (both made by Grantgfan and credit goes to Grantgfan). The four NYC steam locomotives were then restored to working order and restored to their formal and rightful glory by July 1981, becoming part of Contail’s New York Central heritage fleet. Now the four were very happy to be restored and protected by railroad enthusiasts and steam fans and they were also very happy to run heritage trains to keep the history of New York Central alive. And from time to time, Mohawk and Niagara help pull freight trains, and these freight trains usually consisted of New York Central boxcars with New York Central cabooses at the rear of the train. As for Hudson and Steele; Hudson still pulls the 20th Century Limited and Steele still pulls the Empire State Express, therefore keeping the history alive. Though keep in mind that the coaches and trains themselves are of the original 20th Century Limited and Empire State Express of New York Central. Whenever Mohawk and Niagara pull a passenger train, the coaches are default green (non-streamlined) New York Central coaches. When Conrail split and ceased operations in 1999, these four steamers and the rest of the New York Central heritage fleet went under CSX ownership when CSX aqueduct much of ex-New York Central.
However, despite being restored and being really useful engines again, the four still have a grudge against highways and airlines, as those things are the reason why the siblings of the four NYC steam engines were massacred.
And so, that’s the story and facts about the four New York Central steam locomotives. I hope you all enjoyed reading this post. Now I plan on making a post about four New York Central diesels that are actually different from the other diesels, so stay tuned for that post.

Trolling My Church With Cbat
So, it’s Sunday and my Christian family are making me go to church for a Church Service, when we got there we had to sit down in a chair and then a song started playing and we had to sing so I started playing Cbat by Hudson Mohawke from my phone (another song which is WAY better than the one the church was playing) really loudly untill I was Told to stop by my mom. I called her an anti-cbater and I was told to be quiet. When the priest was talking about the last supper I thought it would be funny to interrupt and yelled “TODAY I FUCKED UP!!!! MY GIRLFRIEND OF TWO YEARS HATES MY SEX MUSIC!!!!” And nobody laughed (I assume they haven’t seen the meme) and I was told to get out of the church which is pretty anti-cbatic, anyway now my mom is yelling at me for being an idiot even though I’m way funnier then her

Yeah, it’s one of those weeks. Well, I guess some things are happening, those being our notable dropouts, songs exiting the UK Top 75 - which is what I cover - after five weeks in the region or a peak in the top 40. This week isn’t exactly the busiest in the world, so we have only a few farewells to give out, those being to “HYAENA” by Travis Scott being three-song-ruled out by another song from UTOPIA as well as “Mourning” by Post Malone not even making it to three weeks, then “Trojan Horse” and “UK Rap” by Dave and Central Cee, “Sittin’ on Top of the World” by Burna Boy and “Side Effects” by Becky Hill and Lewis Thompson. Now that song has been on the chart for 12 weeks, and all of the songs that also dropped out range below that. I say this because we have tons of returns and gains this week, and they’re primarily for songs past their prime, and there are a ton of them so bear with me as half this episode - given our measly two new arrivals - will consist of me listing songs that have been out for months. How delightful.
“Mr. Brightside” is at #55. Christ. Outside of that, we see the returns for “Don’t Say Love” by Leigh-Anne, “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac, “Toxic Trait” by Stormzy and Fredo - all from #75 to #73 - as well as another steak from #71 to #68: “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic, “I’m Good (Blue)” by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, “Tattoo” by Loreen and “Escapism.” by RAYE featuring 070 Shake, followed by “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran at #66 - seriously? - and “Boy’s a liar” by PinkPantheress at #65. These are all bottom-feeders, but a particularly big week will need to shovel it all out, especially since in our gains, we have boosts for “Die for You” by The Weeknd at #64, “Kill Bill” by SZA at #62, “Wish You the Best” and “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi at #61 and #57, “Baby Don’t Hurt Me” by David Guetta, Anne-Marie and Coi Leray at #59, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift at #38, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus at #34 and “Miracle” by Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding at #27, though to be completely fair, there were plenty of other gains for songs that are more contemporary, like “What it Is” by Doechii at #67, “Rave Out” by Skepsis, Turno and Charlotte Plank at #52, “Highs & Lows” by Prinz featuring Gabriela Bee at #51 probably thanks to that remix with A1 x J1 which is, of course, not credited, “Bittersweet Goodbye” by Issey Cross at #47, “Asking” by Sonny Fodera and MK featuring Clementine Douglas at #41, “Closer” by Bou featuring Slay at #26 (must be a USB stick discount), “Baddadan” by Chase & Status and… everyone else at #21, “So Much in Love” by D.O.D at #16, “Desire” by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith at #12 and finally, Chase & Status get their first top 10 hit since 2013 with “Disconnect” with Becky Hill up to #9. I’m not complaining, it’s a great song.
As for our top five, there’s very little movement - we see “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice and Aqua down to #5, “vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo up to #4 and the top three completely unchanged: “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa at #3, “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish at #2 and of course, “Sprinter” at the top. Now to talk about two songs.
NEW ARRIVALS
#31 - “TELEKINESIS” - Travis Scott featuring SZA and Future
Produced by Travis Scott, BoogzDaBeast, Wallis Lane, Kanye West, Jahaan Sweet, Nabeyin and Hudson Mohawke
As I predicted, “HYAENA” was swapped out for a better-performing track from the album, with this being the third song for this week and it was a net loss in my opinion. I know this is one of the most highly-acclaimed on the record, partly because of the features and the fact that it was originally a Kanye song from the Donda sessions. I’ll admit - I was excited initially when I heard the woozy synths open the track as they clip in the mix and you can hear the drums in Future’s recording despite them being taken out… okay, it doesn’t sound exciting but Future is fittingly hypnotic here - it’s the typical flexing and toxicity delivered richly but he handles most of this song’s first part and he’s more of a personality than Travis about droning that he can “see the future”. Very funny. Future may not be saying much of interest, but at least it’s coherent, as Travis announces trumpets only for them… not to arrive, being completely obscured by the cloudy yet still mediocre mix, instead dropping into this stagnant beeping with military-esque drums trying desperately to rattle out and never fully skittering to an actually substantial intensity. I did get a decent laugh after this snooze of a track when Travis asks “Do you like the way it sounds?” and the worst, cheapest FL Studio-sounding trumpets come in. He brags about something you haven’t heard yet, and when you hear it, it’s an off-beat ass-blaring that even SZA is close to giving up on savouring. The worst thing about this song, though, it’s just that it’s way too long. Future has two verses and book-ends one with a repetitive refrain, Travis has some malformed verse or bridge for no reason, SZA’s verse drags on, and all of it’s for a decidedly non-immersive track that seems to go for the hypnotising, drumless experience whilst also forgetting that it has to be 1.) seamless and 2.) interesting. But hey, keep bringing out fascists at your shows, Jacques. What do I know?
#20 - “Paint the Town Red” - Doja Cat
Produced by Earl on the Beat, Karl Rubin, Jean Baptiste and DJ Replay
There’s a lot of buzz regarding some behaviour by Doja Cat on social media that I have no clear understanding of so I don’t completely comprehend the turn to a more vindictive aesthetic and persona, but it’s not exactly never been in her wheelhouse and she has that kind of playfulness that could make it work for a full album. We didn’t get much of a good first impression with “Attention”, but this one is pretty great, and honestly, we can probably thank the producers. Earl on the Beat in particular is a producer I really like, thanks to his sense for twinkling yet basic melodic leads that give an off-kilter vibe when his more static trap bounces, and he’s worked in the past with people like Drake, the City Girls, and extensively, Lil Yachty, who he’s made some great beats for. This twinkling melodic lead in particular is a sample of Dionne Warwick’s “Walk on By”, an old Bacharach-penned classic from 1964 that peaked at #9 in the UK, and was later out-charted by covers from Sybil and Gabrielle. The original is an excellent song, but also a remorseful and kind of embarrassed one, not wanting to communicate with their ex after a breakup, pleading with him to just walk on by her if he ever sees her. That’s not a Doja Cat thing to do, so she flips it for a track about she does not care, she’d rather be famous, she couldn’t be less bothered about what you have to say. Sure, the sample is kind of monotonous and the time-stretching and looping is a bit more awkward than it should be, but once the slick snap and bass groove comes in, it’s very hard to care, and Doja as always is full of charisma as she… refers to herself in third-person in the post-chorus, of course, and otherwise making pretty blatant references to her recent actions that collate as some kind of villain origin story, in a more compelling way than ���Attention” because things are kept just that bit vaguer and more psychological than just celebrity gossip BS. Oh, and there’s actually some decent wordplay, fun flows, it’s not the most brilliant song she’s ever put out but it does have me somewhat interested in how this new album is going to shape.
Conclusion
You read the reviews. Well, I hope you did. Travis Scott gets Worst of the Week for “TELEKINESIS” featuring SZA and Future, whilst “Paint the Town Red” by Doja Cat gets Best of the Week, though honestly these songs both suffer from not cutting some of the fat. As for what’s on the horizon… I don’t know, hopefully more weeks that require me to do as little work as possible? Thank you for reading and I’ll see you next week, if there are even new songs to discuss, that is. We could just have no new songs. If that happens, I genuinely would have no idea what to do. For a week, I would have no purpose in life. Then Drake would drop an album and I’d be fine again.

my opinion on every boys noize album as of april 2023
this is my personal opinion as someone who listened to all of them the whole way through
oi oi oi - 2/5 the production on this one is really good but it's SUCH a fucking drag to listen to. i've never been more bored out of my mind listening to an album in a long time. it only really had two songs that ended up being memorable.
power - 3/5 a far more exciting and enjoyable listen with some really upbeat and fun house tracks like jeffer and sweet light, alongside the darker ones like kontact me and transmission, and also has a really nice finish with the BEST track, heart attack. but some songs on this album kinda suck too, and nothing outside of the songs i mentioned is particularly memorable. definitely a fun one though, nothing incredible (maybe apart from heart attack) but it's enjoyable!
out of the black - 1.5/5 same dragging issue as oi oi oi except now the production isn't even that good. yet somehow this album has snoop dogg as a guest feature.
strictly raw vol. 1 - 2/5 oof.... pretty much the same story as oi oi oi, although this one has cerebral and spacer, which are really fun. especially cerebral, it overshadows almost everything else here.
mayday - 3.5/5 now THIS is where boys noize begins getting REALLY good. dynamite and euphoria are insanely fun house tracks, with rock the bells, starchild and midnight supporting it, and a nice collab with hudson mohawke to finish the album. it's not entirely perfect, but it's great nonetheless. it's definitely a pretty different style from what boys noize was going for before though!
strictly raw vol. 2 - 3.5/5 this is a lot more enjoyable compared to the first volume for me, keeping a similar style but doing a lot more with it. i love it!
+/- - 4.5/5 OK THIS ALBUM BLEW ME AWAY COMPLETELY. without a doubt this is his best. this album has some amazing bops like xyxy, nude and all i want, on top of the slower, darker tracks like love & validation and girl crush (GAY MUSIC!). without a doubt in my mind though, the best song on this album is absolutely affection. i love how dark and cold it is! it's beautiful! the only song on this album that is kinda weird is iu, it's got a nice beat but the moan-y vocals don't really do the song any favours... but that is literally like, the only song on the album that isn't amazing. everything else is just brilliant.

Is It Supposed / Hudson Mohawke (in Cry Sugar, Warp Records, 2022)
Hudson Mohawke embraces dystopian trash-pop imagery on his first album in seven years, maintaining his trademark clarity while bleeding and oozing over a larger canvas than ever.
Hudson Mohawke lives in L.A. now, and he’s fallen head over heels for the American tradition of dystopian trash-pop imagery. The video for a megamix of tracks he released in advance of his third album, Cry Sugar, shows us a CGI scene of a man cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway with an assortment of Mos Eisley-worthy weirdos and an animated woman so buxom she appears warped. It looks like Grand Theft Auto and Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” video at once, run through the brain-fried filter of Kuso, Tim & Eric, and Adult Swim’s Off the Air. The cover by Willehad Eilers features the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters horking down a hamburger. In a city whose hills host the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory, and an alarming regularity of smoke-belching infernos, it’s hard not to find the humor—and the horror—in this aesthetic.
The Scottish producer born Ross Birchard cites “American decadence” and the “quintessential backdrop of late capitalism” as an inspiration for his first solo album in seven years. Cry Sugar isn’t a polemic or satire, but it strikes some of the same notes as Idiocracy or Robocop, in which everything is so big, garish, and dumb it’s almost psychedelic. It’s full of moments that seem distasteful at first until you realize that’s exactly the point. Clarence Coffee Jr.’s rasp initially seems at odds with the music’s polymer-like textures, but he strikes the right note on “Bow” with crass, unsubtle lines like, “Now you walk around all stank-face like you need some Febreze!” Gospel samples abound, and when the choir rises up and screams “Freedom!” on “Intentions,” you might wonder if Birchard knows how cheesy it sounds—until the rest of the album makes it abundantly clear that he does.
Birchard’s style has long lent itself to adjectives like “colorful” and “neon.” But while his sharp shares and tightly quantized beats usually bring a sense of order to the mayhem, Cry Sugar spills all over the place, and the time-stretching and pitch-shifting Birchard slathers on his samples make them sound like they’re melting under the pitiless Southern California sun. Tobacco and Neon Indian go for a similar effect in their work, but while those Day-Glo detritus-diggers tend to choke their tracks in thick production smog, Cry Sugar retains the clarity of Birchard’s earlier music, sometimes giving the impression of a sturdy steel skeleton whose flesh is melting off. “Intentions,” “Bicstan,” and “Dance Forever” are absolute monsters that approach the same almost ridiculous level of intensity as TNGHT’s definitive “Higher Ground” while clearly being born from a more expressionistic corner of Birchard’s brain.
Cry Sugar is Birchard’s longest album by some measure, with 19 tracks that bleed and ooze across 63 minutes. But it’s not long in the way of some bloated event-rap album, rather in the way of great electronic long-players like Since I Left You or Geogaddi, where so much awesome shit happens that you grow excited about what comes next even when the album starts to drag. Most of Cry Sugar’s tracks are around two or three minutes long, but Birchard judiciously breaks up the flow with lengthier cuts, and they’re doozies. “Is It Supposed” is either building towards nothing or climaxing for six minutes, its wistful rave melody sparkling like a firework that refuses to extinguish. “Rain Shadow” is so rhythmically tricky that it eventually stops sounding like a banger and takes on a sort of insectoid beauty. “Lonely Days” is all strings and Westian melodrama.
My personal favorite, though, is “Stump,” one of the first songs from Cry Sugar to see the light of day. It sounds like Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra*—*the tone poem used in 2001: A Space Odyssey to soundtrack mankind’s ascent into the higher realms of sentience—for about two seconds. Then Birchard plays a chord so dissonant the high drama immediately curdles into a joke, as if the starchild has missed its path back to Earth and gone plop into the surface of the sun. It’s exactly the kind of unexpected, pessimistic, profoundly ridiculous sound gag that Cry Sugar delivers one after another, adding up to the funniest, most mind-twisting album Birchard’s ever made.

Getting the Girl

The Titans were in need of a kicker after Kurt quit the team. If you asked her, that was the reason Y/N was trying out. If you asked Matt, Mike, or Puck, the reason she was trying out was to finally shut Finn Hudson up once and for all. The oaf had made Y/N his latest target to pick on. Mainly because he knew of her crush on his girlfriend Quinn. He liked to rub it in her face that HE was dating her and not Y/N. She couldn't take any more of it. So she decided that she was gonna be McKinley's next kicker. 
Puck, Mike, and Matt had tried to talk Y/N out of it but to no avail. So, being the good friends they are, they decided to help Y/N. As they took to the field to help her practice, Sue and the Cheerios had made their way out to do their cardio for the day. The group on the field failed to notice a certain head cheerleader watching them practice along with Santana and Brittany. "Ah, so looks like Y/N is trying out for the team. That's hot." Santana said. Brittany giggled and agreed. "Do you think she'll help me achieve my perfect record of making out with everyone at school?" Quinn's head whipped around. "What?" "Yeah. I have a list of everyone I've made out with and she's not on it. It would mean a lot if she said yes." Quinn shook her head in disbelief before going back to watching the group. Suddenly, a voice called out from behind them. "Hey babe!" Quinn mentally groaned as Santana did it loudly for her. Finn walked up to the trio smiling. He leaned down to kiss Quinn but she turned her head, making him collide with her cheek. "Brittany, Santana." Santana gave him a fake smile as Brittany did the same. "I'm gonna go ask her." 
Before Quinn could protest, both Santana and Brittany ran off in the direction of Y/N and the boys. Finn looked where the girls where headed and scoffed. "What's that freak doing out here?" Quinn glared at him. "She's trying out for your team. You need a kicker do you not?" Finn's jaw dropped. "Yeah. But we don't need a fucking dyke on our team. People aren't gonna take us seriously!" He whined. Quinn sighed. "Finn. They don't take you seriously now. What makes you think that's gonna change if a girl joins the team?" Finn groaned. "I'm gonna go give her a piece of my fucking mind. Dykes don't belong on the team." Finn stormed off as Quinn followed after him. 
Y/N was talking to Santana and Brittany about things when Finn walked up to them. "Finnocence. Can't you see me and B are trying to seal the deal here?" Finn glared at the two. "And I don't give a flying fuck Lopez. I'm more worried about the fact that there's a dyke freak trying out for my team." Y/N rolled her eyes. "Because you guys suck and need a kicker. That's where I step in Hudson because obviously you can't lead us to a win." Finn scoffed. "I'm the best quarterback this school has ever had. And if you're only trying out for kicker, then why are you also throwing the ball around? It's called kicker, not quarterback." Puck spoke up. "Because idiot, we know Tanaka is gonna test her other skills. And maybe, if we're lucky, he might realize that she's a better quarterback than you." 
Finn lunged at the mohawked boy before Y/N shoved him back. "Leave the fucking field Finn. We're done talking to you." He glared at her before turning to Quinn. "Let's go." Quinn stood there not moving. "Quinn. Let's go!" Quinn put on her ice queen glare and turned to the boy. "No Finn. I still have stuff to do. You can go." Finn stood in shock and stormed off to his car. Santana and Brittany looked at Y/N. They were extremely turned on. "So Y/N, does our offer still stand?" Y/N smirked. "Totally." Both Brittany and Santana kissed her cheek before running off.
Puck slapped Y/N on the shoulder. "Good for you dude." Y/N smirked before looking at Quinn who was glaring at her. "What Fabray? Jealous?" Quinn glared at the girl before running off. Matt spoke up. "What's got her panties in a bunch?" Y/N shrugged. "I don't know. Let's get back to practice though." 
Y/N followed the boys to their locker room to get their stuff. No one was at school so it would be fine and Y/N was already cool with the team. When they all walked in, they heard groaning and moaning. They all looked at each other and poked their heads around the column of lockers to find a shocking scene.
  Finn Hudson was fucking a cheerleader that wasn't Quinn Fabray. All four people witnessing was shocked. Y/N felt anger course through her veins. How dare this idiot cheat on Quinn. Y/N pulled out her phone and snapped a few pictures and videos before all four of them hauled ass out of the locker room. 
They ran all the way to Y/N's car. "Holy fuck. What the fuck just happened?" Y/N was still shocked. Puck was angry. "He's a fucking idiot for cheating on her. She needs to know. Hey, maybe if you tell her Y/N she'll give you a chance!" Y/N looked at him. "Are you serious Puck? Really?" 
Two days later, after a successful tryout on Y/N's part, pictures of Finn and the girl fucking in the locker room were posted all over the school. Y/N was standing at her locker getting her books when Santana and Brittany walked up to her. "So. We had fun at Breadstix last night. You're actually really cool." Y/N smiled at the girls. "Thank you Santana. And Brittany I hope your record is now perfect." The blonde smiled and nodded. "All thanks to you. Also, have you seen Quinn? I wanna check up on her." Y/N shook her head. "No. It sucks though. Finn is an idiot." Santana nodded. "But hey, you get to have a chance with her." Y/N giggled and shut her locker. "You're starting to sound like Puck." The three walked off to class, not knowing that two people had overheard their conversation. 
Y/N was walking to class texting Puck about the game when she was yanked into an empty classroom. "Hey what the fu-!" She was cut off by a hand on her mouth. "Shhh or we'll get in trouble." Y/N finally processed who yanked her in the room. "Quinn?" The blonde smiled at the girl and took her hand off her mouth. "Hi." Y/N smiled at the girl's shyness. "Hi. What's going on? Why did you yank me in here?" Quinn didn't say anything and just pressed her lips against Y/N's. Y/N kissed back almost instantly. The pair pulled away when air was a necessity. "I broke it off with Finn. I wanted to thank you for those pictures." Y/N stuttered before Quinn cut her off again. "Puck told me after I grilled him about it." Y/N's jaw dropped. "That snitch." Quinn giggled. "No. You should thank him. By the way, I'm gonna be cheering for you and only you tonight." She walked off swaying her hips as Y/N watched mesmerized. God, she couldn't wait for tonight. 
The game was going awful. Every time Y/N stepped onto the field, Finn would do something to get her tackled. She was hurting all over and Coach kept yelling at Finn and Y/N was getting stressed. She sat on the bench cradling her ribs after a particularly hard hit when Quinn snuck up behind her. "What's up with Finn? Why is he putting you in situations where you're getting hurt?" Y/N shrugged and groaned. "I don't know." Puck ran up to Y/N after coming off the field. "He found out you took and posted the pictures. One of our teammates saw us posting them and overheard us talking about catching Finn in the act." Quinn gasped. Y/N sat shocked. "Fuck." 
The game just got worse. Y/N got tackled time and time again much to the amusement of Finn. Tanaka called a timeout during the second quarter. "Hudson what the fresh HELL are you doing out there?! You're killing our kicker!" Finn smirked and sat back on the bench. "Well coach, some people need to be taught a lesson. I'm just doing my job." Tanaka's face turned red. "Did you just blatantly admit that you're doing this shit on purpose?" Finn blanched. "U-um no?" Tanaka pulled him up by his jersey. "YOURE BLOWING THIS GAME FOR US BECAUSE YOU GOT CAUGHT FUCKING SOMEONE ELSE?!" The team snickered at how scared Finn looked. "Y/L/N! You're playing quarterback for the rest of the game. Jameson! You're taking Y/N's place as kicker! Get back on the field!"
Y/N as quarterback was going great. She had managed to get the Titans back in the lead without a dance to distract the other team. Y/N could see Finn sitting on the bench fuming. Behind the bench however was a much better sight. Quinn smiling her million dollar Cheerio smile while yelling for the Titans. God, she was falling for this girl. Hard and fast. 
The Titans ended up winning much to everyone's satisfaction (except Finn's). As Y/N was getting changed in the girl's locker room, the door swung open to reveal the oaf in question. Y/N rolled her eyes. "What do you want Hudson?" He glared at the girl. "I want you gone. Off the team. Away from my girl." Y/N smirked. "From what I've heard, she's not really your "girl" anymore." Finn saw red as he swung and connected with the girl's jaw. He only managed to get one hit in before Tanaka was bursting in pulling him off the girl and out of the locker room. Puck, Mike, and Matt helped the girl up. "Damn dude. He really packs a punch." Y/N shrugged. "I'll be okay." 
Y/N had her bag on her shoulder as her and the boys headed out of the locker room. Mike had been nice enough to get her some ice for her jaw. As she walked holding the ice against her face, she caught Quinn's eye. She was standing with her parents hoping to introduce them to Y/N. At the sight of Y/N's jaw, she gasped, dropped her Cheerio bag and ran towards the girl. Y/N jumped at the blonde girl suddenly appearing in front of her. "What happened to your jaw? Was it one of their players? I'll kick their ass." Y/N chuckled at the girl's worry. "It wasn't one of their players Q. It was your ex. He ambushed me in the locker room saying that he wanted me off the team and away from you. I'm okay." 
Hazel eyes filled with fury as she called Santana and Brittany over. The two suddenly appeared. "What's up Q?" "I want Finn slushied and dumpster tossed for the rest of forever." Y/N went to protest but Quinn put her hand up. "No. He deserves it after all he did to you." Santana smirked. "Aye aye Cap." The two smiled at Y/N before walking off. "I was hoping to introduce you to my parents. They want to meet you." Y/N froze. "Your p-parents?" Quinn smiled at the girl's nervousness before pecking her lips. "Yes. My parents." "Ah, so this is the famous Y/N Quinnie?" Y/N looked behind Quinn to find a blonde woman who looked identical to Quinn standing next to a tall, blonde man. "Yes. Mom, dad, this is Y/N Y/L/N. Y/N, this is Judy and Russell Fabray." 
Y/N smiled as best as she could before wincing. "Oh dear. What happened to your face?" Judy cupped Y/N's face. Quinn's eyes darkened. "Finn happened. He ambushed her on the locker room. Y/N is the one who caught him cheating on me." Russell spoke up. "Well I'm glad you caught him Y/N. He didn't deserve my daughter anyway. Now Y/N, my Quinnie has spoken very highly of you. What are your intentions with my daughter?" Y/N looked at Quinn. "To love and appreciate her for as long she'll have me. If your concern with me sir is if I'll treat her better than Finn, then you don't have to worry because I will." Judy and Quinn looked at the girl with shining eyes. Russell smiled and held out his hand. "Welcome to the family Y/N." Y/N smiled and shook his hand. Quinn wrapped her arms around the taller girl's waist, burying her head in her chest. "Can we go home and watch a movie and cuddle?" Y/N smiled and leaned down to peck Quinn's lips. 
"Lead the way baby girl."

WIP Sunday

Just some Jason and Willa being back on their bullshit :’)
“Willa?” He questions upon seeing her, noting that she’d added a couple guns to the gun show, if her torn sleeves were anything to go by.
“Jason! Thought that was you. Y’know, your hair gives you away.”
“My… hair?” He pats it.
“Yep. Alright so, a few quick questions. Where are we, who were they, aaand what year is it?”
“The Rook Islands, Vaas’ Pirates, and two-thousand… twelve??” Jason stares at her in confusion at the last question, concerned she’d hit her head or something.
“Okay, Cool. Cool cool cool.” She nods, looking around for a moment. “Who’s Vaas again?”
“Crazy pirate, yells a lot, has a mohawk.”
“Riiiight, gotcha.” Sucking on her teeth and shuffling around, she waits for Jason to gesture toward the safe house in a silent question, inviting her in. “Yeah sure, why not. Got nothin’ better to do anyway.”
Following him inside, she was thankful she’d found him when she did. Otherwise she’d probably die from either boredom or just one of the local animals that hung around here. Though she found herself quickly regretting it upon seeing that there was only one bed.
One. Bed. 
Wow. 
What were the odds? If Hudson were here right now, she definitely would never let Willa live this one down...
“So,” She interrupts her own line of thought before it could go much further. “I’ll just sleep on the floor if you’ve got like, a spare pillow, or something.” 
“What? No, you can take the bed.”
“I couldn’t do that, really.” Willa folds her arms, almost feeling like it was a challenge.
“Well, I insist you take the bed.” Jason mimics her, the muscles bulging through his t-shirt momentarily distracting her.
“That’s thoughtful of you, Jason.” She gets out between grit teeth, a small forced smile on her face. “But I have to insist, that you, take the bed.”
Jason squints his eyes for a moment, scanning her face and sizing her up like she was his opponent in a fight. “Fine, we can both take the bed. I’m sure there’s plenty of room.” He smiles politely, though there was nothing polite in it, if one looked close.
It was a challenge now.
“Fine. Sounds great to me.” Willa doesn’t break eye contact and unties the sweat filled clothes around her hip, tossing them dramatically before walking over to plop down on the cot.
