in honor of pride month being far behind us, here is a list of all the no homo hueyelmer lines, ranked from worst to best (this is my passion)

5.) "I know i've said this before, but i'm not that type of guy." boring. boooooring especially for something out of elmer's mouth. 'that type of guy' just say a slur at this point. 0/0. not a fan

4.) "different things make different people happy, so i won't reject people for being homosexual, but i think it's pretty rude to make out a same-sex friendship to be a romance, you know? besides, both me and huey had proper girlfriends of our own." i don't know where to start with this. it sounds like he wrote this on a sticky note he keeps in his pocket to take out and read in inconvenient moments and it's bloody stupid but it's also saved by a) being part of that hilarious fermet exchange and b) elmer genuinely misremembering his own life. like yeah you had girlfriends. girl friends as in female friends. he's just making things up at this point. he's too old for this

3.) "he's...my best friend. that's all. no more, no less." subtle. i can appreciate that. it's such a short line and yet he tries Extra hard to let us know there's nothing more to it than that. sounds a bit desperate and i like it when huey sounds desparate

2.) "the bottom line is that huey doesn't like me. plus, i may make friends with guys, but i'm not looking for a boyfriend anyway." this is sweet. definitely sounds like something a kid would say. 10/10. love the use of the word boyfriend. plus a cute little monielmer scene happening here. i'm a fan

1.) "i know what some people think about our relationship, but i really don't appreciate it." absolutely hilarious. fantastic, even. shamelessly implying that in-universe lotto valentino citizens think huey and elmer are gay while also being wonderfully meta; huey breaking the fourth wall and speaking of the readerbase is some real dedication. I feel narita pulling strings here as much as i feel huey's sincerety. the best line in history
