Beautiful photo. Read Caption by © 📷 🖋 ✅ @steve_woods_photography For me it was just so much fun taking this image. We spent a good few hrs with this wonderful mother and her new born calf. The calves are so energetic and playful, but with a nervous restraint. They are constantly watching and receiving messages from their mothers, and as soon as the mother isn’t looking the calf will dart over to investigate you. This particular moment was so wonderful because the calf was arching and turning under it mothers pectoral fin (that I am sure acts as the boundary of the calf’s ‘playpen’). The position of the calf mirroring the line of the mothers pec and body make it pleasing for me. This is one of my favourite images and also one of the images that I have for sale as a 13”x19” signed print on my website ready for the holiday season. I will post a number of my favourite images that I sell as prints in the next few days. These are very easy to buy from my webshop, intl shipping is easily arranged. More will be added, sonic you have any specific requests simply drop me an email. The link to the webshop is in bio. • 👉 • •https://stevewoodsphotography.com/prints-1 • • • 1/200th f11 iso640 Canon 1DXii Canon ef8-15mm fisheye Subal housing. • • • #photography #photographicprint #underwater #wildlife #tonga #humpback #vavau #1dxmarkii #divephotography #keepitwild #exploremore #natgeo #free-dive @humpbackswims #humpbackswims #ourblueplanet #suuntodive #subal_underwater_housing https://www.instagram.com/p/B5pWK30BkjF/?igshid=1fboa248o9bk

"The Songs Of The Wild" - 🔵 This incredible footage was filmed on location in Tonga courtesy of Expedition Leader, Founder and CEO of Humpback Swims @humpbackswims and Scuba Diver Life @scubadiverlife , Professional Underwater Photographer and Filmmaker, Nadia Aly and shared to us by My Long-time Friend, Wildlife Conservationist and Environmentalist, Joyce @animal.radical Both male and female humpback whales vocalize, but only males produce the long, loud, complex "song" for which the species is famous. Each song consists of several sounds in a low register, varying in amplitude and frequency and typically lasting from 10 to 20 minutes. Individuals may sing continuously for more than 24 hours. Cetaceans have no vocal cords, instead, they produce sound via a larynx like structure found in the throat, the mechanism of which has not as of yet been clearly identified. Whales do not have to exhale to produce sound. Whales within a large area sing a single song. All North Atlantic humpbacks sing the same song, while those of the North Pacific sing a different song. Each population's song changes slowly over a period of years without repeating. Scientists are unsure of the purpose of whale songs. Only males sing, suggesting one purpose is to attract females. However, many of the whales observed to approach a singer are other males, often resulting in conflict. Singing may, therefore, be a challenge to other males. Some scientists have hypothesized the song may serve an echolocative function. During the feeding season, humpbacks make unrelated vocalizations for herding fish into their bubble nets. Humpback whales make other sounds to communicate, such as grunts, groans, snorts and barks. - Post Via @maestro320 🙂 - #regrann

#Repost @humpbackswims (@get_repost) ・・・ What an epic encounter this was! We tend to get in the water with the whales almost every day! The quality of encounter is what makes Tonga.... Tonga!! This encounter with an adult humpback whale lasted for hours! To this day, a very memorable one! The best thing about our trips is that all the interactions happen on snorkel at the surface! So no certification is needed! Just some swimming skills! ⠀ ⠀ Join us one day! www.HumpbackSwims.com⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ photo by @nadia.aly.photo⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #humpbackwhales #humpbacks #humpback #humpbackwhale #whale #whalewatching #whales⠀ #ocean #marine #underwater #underwaterphotographygraphy #instagood #justgoshoot #nature #beauty #canon #canonusa #discover #travel #instatravel #animal #marinelife #underwaterworld #underwaterphoto⠀ #picoftheday #photooftheday#underwaterphoto #underwater #animals

A beautiful photo! Credit © 🖋 🎬 ✔️ @steve_woods_photography One of the defining features of Humpback Whales is their huge pectoral fins that can be 8ft long. They are covered in razor sharp barnacles and so can be very dangerous if you are in the wrong end of them! Luckily, humpbacks are so careful not to touch you, or anything that they don’t want to, so we are generally very safe. They do however provide a wonderful mobile pen for their calves. The mothers will almost draw out the area that the calves can play in. It’s amazing to think just how strong the joints must be to wield such a powerful heavy fin! There is a link in my bio if you want to come and photograph them with me in September! Drop me a line ;) • • • 1/320 f8 iso320 Canon 1DXii Canon ef8-15mm fisheye Subal housing, Zen dp-230 dome • • • #photography #underwater #wildlife #scuba #tonga #humpback #vavau #illgrammers #agameoftones #1dxmarkii #divephotography #keepitwild #lonelyplanet #theoutbound #explorewildly #finditliveit #adventuremobile #exploremore #bestvacations #natgeo #travelstoke #wonderful_places #freedive @canonglobal #canon_photos @canoncanada @humpbackswims #humpbackswims #fstopgear #sandisk @sandiskapac @sandisk #CanonFanPhoto @whalesnation https://www.instagram.com/p/B7rI-DChQUh/?igshid=2r8nv0fuvehp
