THE DEVIL’S PLAN SEASON 2: I Am Once Again Being Emotionally Terrorized By a Game Show
Tumblr media
I just love this show so much… but it also makes me so anxious and so irrationally angry. Every time. Without fail. I always start rooting for someone - and I mean hardcore rooting. Ride or die. And then? They get targeted. They lose. Or worse - they get eliminated. And I spiral. I suffer. I grieve.
In Season 1, it was Ha Seok Jin. And by some miracle of the universe, he actually won the game. I’m still stunned. Usually, whoever I latch onto gets taken out by Episode 5.
And let me just say: the idea of Orbit winning still makes my blood boil. I’m sorry. I would’ve thrown my TV.
Anyway, this is just who I am. My rooting habits are consistent - whether it’s The Genius (Sangmin, Jiwon, Hyunmin) or Physical 100 (Amotti, obviously). I get attached. I get too invested. I get tension headaches. My obsessive tendencies absolutely show up, even in competitive Korean game shows. I will never change.
And now we arrive at The Devil’s Plan Season 2.
From the moment he appeared, I had eyes only for Jung Hyungyu. I’m not even kidding. He is so calm, so smart, so calculating, so well-spoken, so meticulous, so goddamn practical. I don’t care about anybody else and, I mean, Justin Min was just right there! And yet my brain said, “No. Not Ben from The Umbrella Academy that you loved so much - the cute genius one. Yep. That one. He’s the one.”
I also HATE that Hyunjoon is obsessed with taking Hyungyu out but look at that pic above lol. This is giving enemies-to-lovers BL energy. The slow-burn is just writing itself.
Anyway. Flash forward to the end of Episode 9 and now I am a mess. An actual emotional wreck. How DARE they go after Hyungyu?
Yes, okay, he’s insanely dangerous. Keeping him in the game would destroy everyone else’s shot at winning because he’d just sweep the final with that calm, flawless, terrifying gameplay. But still. HOW DARE THEY?
I NEED HIM TO WIN. I NEED HIM TO BE CELEBRATED.
Not ostracized. Not alone. Not with TEARS IN HIS EYES. NOOOOOO!!
Protect Jung Hyungyu at all costs.

watched devils plan s2 recently and the fact that half the fanbase hates my two fave players bc they played the game right (betrayed people, were selfish, had their own goals in mind) or because they were too kind (willing to lose for their ally to win, cried when faced w the idea of betraying anyone) is insane.
spoilers below
hyungyu is being hated bc he was too selfish and playing for himself… which is like the entire point of the game im sorry? i mean i get that u might not like him bc hes condescending and kinda rude but even then he explained himself and is a really blunt person 😭 doesnt take away how rude it was to ask hyunjoon if he knew how to do math… when hes a math major… but he was genuinely perplexed as to why his ally was making moved that were not beneficial to either of them. besides theyre friendly now!! theyre bffs!! ppl r calling hg a sociopath because of how he played and im just like bruuhhhh idk. kyuhyun knew what he was sacrificing when he lost and thats his own decision too. ppl hate on kyuhyun and sohui for being allied w hyungyu when .. they were the only true alliances in there ?
and SOHUI… she didnt give up the win because she wanted him to win. she didnt give up anything. she took the chance that he didnt know what her combination was because it was a 50/50 for him versus a 100% win for her. THERE WAS NO TIEBREAKER. they wouldve stood there for ages while she was in pain because he def wasnt going to give her the win when they both knew that she knew 100% what his combination was. they were literally stuck at odds. saying she basically did nothing all game was crazy bc she was one of the smartest contestants there …
i find it so weird when theyre like sohui mustve thought she was on a dating show ohhh like ??? im not the first to notice how they weee all cozied up and following eo and stuff but lets not act like hyungyu wasnt also intentionally keeping her close ! theyve said theyre like siblings (debatable imo.) but to blame solely her and say shes not fir for entertainment and blah blah blah is crazy like these people r real people their personalities and relationships with each other are not simply for our entertainment and i think this also has to do w the korean audience like 😭 idk it feels so meangirl like… whatever.
BUT RHE ONLY CRITICISM I UNDERSTAND!! is the pds not putting a way for the prisoners to climb out of prison. like. they were genuinely doomed the moment they got in there ??? thats so fucked.
anyways rant over thanks idk if any of that made sense

An interdisciplinary team at POSTECH, led by Professor Gunsu S. Yun, doctoral candidate Jaemin Yoo (Department of Physics, Division of Advanced Nuclear Engineering), Professor Hyungyu Jin, and doctoral candidate Dongkyu Lee (Department of Mechanical Engineering), has developed a groundbreaking technology that addresses key limitations in clean hydrogen production using microwaves. They have also successfully elucidated the underlying mechanism of this innovative process. Their findings, published as the Inside Front Cover of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, mark a transformative step in the pursuit of sustainable energy. As the world shifts away from fossil fuels, clean hydrogen has emerged as a leading candidate for next-generation energy due to its zero carbon emissions. However, existing hydrogen production technologies face significant barriers. Conventional thermochemical methods, which rely on the oxidation-reduction of metal oxides, require extremely high temperatures of up to 1,500°C. These methods are not only energy-intensive and costly but also challenging to scale, limiting their practical application.

ok i'm in the middle of watching devils plan s2 ep10, and boy do i have some THOUGHTS. I've been watching everyone dogpile on kyuhyun and sohee on this sub since the finale aired, and i haven't watched what sohee/hyungyu do in the finale.
but for kyuhyun, i think he did decently well for himself. just think about what the prison gang was asking of him. i get that hyungyu's manipulations were fucked up, and that his behavior was highlighted by the editing/creepy bgm. but...
- from kyuhyun's pov, this was his friend. he played with him, lived with him, ate with him, etc for 5 days straight. that is long enough to build an emotional bond - and that's clear by how hard the prison gang members themselves cried when their own allies got eliminated earlier on. the game is fake, but the emotions people feel during the game are extremely valid. people who want to disregard the emotional aspect of the game have an unrealistic expectation of human nature, and honestly, come off like T bastards (to use kyuhyun's words).
- kyuhyun and sohee are both clever people. you see BOTH of them whispering to their team members and figuring out strategies in every game. and although them contributing to their team's wins do have the consequence where someone is eliminated from the game (due to the game rules, which they didn't set), their focus was on winning the games for their team. the consequence didn't occur directly because of them. they saw how hard the prison gang had it, and they felt for the others (even brought them food/requested amenities before every main match), but they didn't want to be placed in that position, and they weren't, because of their abilities/how unbalanced the game was. it's like how the rich people in parasite didn't do anything wrong, per se, but they enjoyed their privilege and felt thankful they weren't poor. not likeable, but not wrong, per se. the real villain is the unbalanced and unfair game system - kyuhyun/sohee didn't cause the unfairness.
- when hyunjoon ditched hyungyu (and honestly, good for him, because hyungyu was being toxic as all hell that game. like jfc, does he not hear how villainous he sounds.) for kyuhyun and sohee, the entire situation became an entirely different beast altogether. they were being asked to help stab their friend, in a 6 on 1 situation. it was a cruel eventuality that people get eliminated, but the manner this ploy had clearly been carefully arranged (for hyungyu to lose all of his allies, to lose the game, to get sent to prison, to lose in a rigged prison game) was probably beyond the pale for them, who still considered hyungyu their friend. when the others got eliminated, they lost the games fair and square. Lee sedol and Justin simply didn't pick up how the games they lost in worked, at all. kh even tried to help justin.
- if we're being honest, how many contestants would have agreed to that? if eliminating harin so cruelly made game sense, would eunyu have helped kill her off? or if eliminating justin made game sense, would 7high or jiyeong have helped kill him off? justin wasn't even technically a part of the prison gang alliance (he was still a self-professed lone wolf), and the prison gang tried so hard to save him. the fact that kyuhyun and sohee felt they could not bring themselves to help off hyungyu, who was a part of their key alliance from day 1, is very understandable.
- this game is about social strategy as well as mental fortitude. the fact that 7high and the prison gang could not see how unreasonable and unrealistic their ask was, even if this was "just a game", is incredibly stupid on their part. what was supposed to be kyuhyun and sohee's reason to help stab their friend? because they'd "agreed" to help the prison gang for that one game? they'd agreed under the understanding that hyungyu would have a fighting chance and that this would be a fair game. helping their friend who was being ganged up on would obviously take priority over some "agreement" for a single game. or because it made game sense that hyungyu should be eliminated before the final? competition is one thing, but many players have lines that they won't cross even for the game, and ganging up on and stabbing your friend (even if it's for good game reasons) is a very reasonable and normal line. not clocking this was a major oversight by the prison gang - hinging their whole goddamn strategy on kyuhyun and sohee not feeling bad for their ally and friend was insane.
- what's more, it sounds like 7high really rubbed sohee the wrong way, with his bullshit "i don't even really care about winning, i want you to win". she's naive but not that naive, and his disingenuity lost him a lot of potential trust. that kind of dishonesty just makes him unappealing to be around. she must have known that if she and kyuhyun allied with the prison gang like that, 7high could not be trusted and there was a real possibility he would just pick off her and kyuhyun immediately.
- perhaps the worst part of 7high's strategy was he didn't clue in kyuhyun and sohee from the very start. they clearly felt just as blindsided as hyungyu did when hyunjoon ditched him. as a result, they didn't have time to process or properly consider what this new situation would mean or what they might want to do, rationally or emotionally. when people are blindsided like this, they usually stick with their gut emotional reaction - and in this case, it was to help out their friend. also, the fact that their new allies placed them in a very difficult spot as well, where they had to quickly decide whether they could be ok with following the prison gang's clear plan to off their friend in such a cruel way. i also want to point out that this was incredibly disrespectful to kyuhyun and sohee - the fact that their "new allies" just did this to them probably highlighted just how insignificant they were to their new allies and how untrustworthy their new allies were.
- in the face of all this, kyuhyun stood up for his and sohee's line. sohee can't do confrontation, so kyuhyun did it for her too - he fended off the prison gang, defended his own playing style and emotions, and he took his own elimination on the chin.
- but at the end of the day, i think it was not as much about hyungyu and protecting him, as it was about kyuhyun sticking to his own line. he didn't want to play like that, and it was very understandable. his friend was being ganged up on and expressed that he was having a difficult time (even if he knew his friend was fine in terms of the game, the emotions are still real). he chose to help his friend and refused to participate in offing his friend. that was his line. tbh, it was probably a line that most of the other contestants would have stuck to as well, with respect to their own allies/friends.
- and now, i'm in the middle of ep 10, and sohee is clearly feeling very bereft. probably feeling guilty for stepping away from hyungyu and for helping in the plan that ended up with kyuhyun eliminated. she was not a very secure person to begin with, so her eventual decision to help hyungyu to the very end to make all this have some kind of meaning makes sense to me.

First off, it’s hard to read because I chose to take a break from school right when Haejun decided to go back so now… you had a good year working and enjoying idol activities… I wish I can experience some freedom like that too
2 . I really wanted the full story of idol characters & idol fans… Penguin who quits seeing her current idol and recovers from working for fancalls, Sunghyun & the failing idol/mangdol plot, why did Hyungyu cry at the awards ceremony… there’s still so much but I guess I will wait for the Q&A. it’s always been a slice of life with low stakes so it’s important to read it as it is… when it ends, it ends
3 . sia haejun & hyungyu junik is really gl & bl really…
4 . I forgot to read last chapters hiatus message so it was extra shocking to wait an extra week and be greeted with the ending
5 . everything… 47500 won… thank you for everything
extra: is it Virtual Idol or Fictional Idol? anywho Kim Junik has a pleasant conclusion as well so I’m happy

Ugggg im so pissed off rn. So in bevils plan, EVERYBODY be hating on 7high because he might seem agressive, but wtf he is one sincere man. He is not looking for validarion for no one, he says it when he is mad and push the ones he doesnt like apar. And Choi Hyunjoon, that motherfucker AGHHHH HE IS SO FAKE. He has never actually been on a team, and played innocent when he needed to, and then ghastlighted 7high and Justin Min (my poor baby 🥺). And eunyoo ficking hell I HATE HER SO SO SO MUCH. She is so faje because she is always smiling and being “nice” to everyone, but as soon as Justin left the room, she tried to make the others betray him. And whi were the ones who didnt agree? (Unlike hyunjoo and harin) right! It was 7high and Kang jiyeon (queeeeeeen)
And it hurted so much when lee seodeol left T-T. He was so smart and nice and real, the only one who noticed that Justin was not the one in the wrong. I liked him so much because even though he knew it was gonna be easier for him to win if he was on Harin, Eunyoo and Hyunjoo’s team in jail, he diceded not to because he knew they were fake af.
Now Hyungyu. Everybody hated him, and i get it, BUT, i liked him a lot because he was not only smart, but also realistic. He knew he will have to eliminare ofhers, and he didn’t care at all (clearly and antisocial btw), but he would not tell everyone he feels oh so bad, and play sad on camera like Hyunjoon did, he knew he wasn’t nice with anyone he didn’t care about, but never played he was. Played on his own, let others join him only if they help him, simp for sohee. I liked him, but i get why people didnt like him.
Now Sohee… why would anyone hate her? She was an introvert who always worked on her own. Never did anything i disliked, she was real, she didn’t ask anyone for help, didn’t fakely feel baz for something she do or someone she eliminated. I just dont get why people hated her so much.
Justin, my baby 😭😭😭. He is sooo smart and cool. Im obsessed with the way he is always the worst player until the last round comes. And EVERYONE is impressed by him. I liked a lot that he told Eunyoo that it was unfair when she didn’t tell the others about his plan AND made another alliance (leaving him out). I also liked that novody expected a lot from him because he was an american actor, but he was sooo good at every game, and always managed to go from last to better than others.
Im on mid episode 8 btw, so my opinions micht change, but i just needed go talk about it because i was going to explode if not.

kie!! i’m in love with doom 🥺 [attention all others, doom at your service spoilers ahead]
i saw the kiss you were talking about, the kiss oh gosh i m e l t e d. the way she asks him to love her and he just smirks with his cute lil no and you can actually see the words fuck it flash in his mind before he goes in 🥵 ugh it was satisfying. and the kiss when she’s about to wish her loved ones forget her after she dies (ok i would have kissed her too, my heart broke for her) 🥺 oh and you know when he’s on his couch with his hand over his face and she just stares at him. and he turns to look at her directly. why was that so incredibly hot?? was it just me?? idk why but the over the top sexual stuff is never… how should i phrase this… like it’s never butterflies-inducing or heart fluttering? for me at least. for me, its the way he always holds her hand 🥺 or the way he looks at her 🥺 or the way he said she doesnt need a wish to make him fall in love with her 💔💔💔💔 and it doesn’t hurt that he’s exactly my type, an annoyingly smug brat with a questionable past and a heart of gold 🫢😘
i’m only on ep 9 and i just know this is going to end with me in a pile of tears on the floor. he keeps saying he’s gonna save her. which is possible, but what about him? what will happen to them? or her brother? what what what 😭😭😭 im scared
and the side story of jina and jooik and hyungyu!! i feel like it’s just getting started but i’ve seen enough of jina and jooik to be team jooik lol he’s adorable in a mr darcy sort of way. he seems incredibly kind and i feel like they’d be so cute together (and i mean, jina is pretty much elizabeth anyway)
ok now that i’ve rambled on and on, i shall be off 🫡 i hope you’re having a wonderful week, darling 😘💕
This man Lo, he could have anything (might contain spoilers)
Seo In Guk is so fucking adorable, like who allowed this to happen?
Tumblr media
why is all of him incredibly hot? And not in the typical cringe “he’s so hot -flips hair-“ way, he’s hot like the darkest embers of a fire. It creeps up on you. like A+++ to the stylist's man. his attire was 🤤
YESSS the build is truly so much more fist bite worthy. it's basically romantic foreplay. the little touches, the glances, the smirks, the laughs, the teasing. give me it all. his hand holding obsession makes me fucking 🫠 tell me that’s not Min Yoongi.
Her asking to forget her loved ones hit me in my core, I’m pretty sure I cried.
-sips brown sugar latte- have you seen Tale of the Nine Tailed 👀 because their plot lines are v similar. Although I found TotNT more dramatic, in a good way. Like I actually fucking cried during that drama. A couple times.
HOMIE this side story was EVERYTHING. I want a side drama of just them. I want to see Jooik PINE for her while she dates his best friend. This side story had so much depth to it. Not just to characters thrown together so that everyone ends up dating 🙄 I adore Kang Taeoh but Lee Soohyuk steals the show with his ethereal beauty.
Tumblr media
I also really love that “God” is a young woman in this 👏🏼
I hope you had a wonderful week too bby!

Honestly, the start of The Devil's Plan even felt better than season 1. My main issue with it is genuinely that while I understand how people see Hyungyu as being cool and rational, it's always a bit disappointing to never really make a move of his own that or like any big wow moments. I get it's because his social game saved the day and he allied well, but I found him quite a boring winner? It wasn't even his comments that got me against Hyunjoon, despite how unnecessary they were, it was just that there isn't something about him that strikes me as particularly special in the actual gameplay, and it's made worse by how the edit of him tries to make it seem as if there actually is. This is worsened by the fact how he got to the top was objectively through other people's talent, especially Sohui's, which does rub me the wrong way, and I feel like it was akin to mooching.
Watching someone who I did think had a special talent for the game, as in Sohui, allow herself to give up her chance of of winning for HG made me so sad as a woman, because honestly I could just go outside or watch Love Island if I want to watch a talented, amazing woman give herself up for a man who is ultimately mediocre in comparison to her (in this gameplay skill only of course).
I'm sure HG is actually fairly smart but I just found it hard to believe that he was the brains of the living room alliance when Tinno and Sohui were there. Social skill is an element too, and I can't deny he is a fantastic manipulator (not a diss), and has good instinct on who would give themselves up for him, and his assertion of dominance was very good!
However, if we were to give him credit for this, I would also have to give credit for any of Orbit's alliance, particularly Yumin, for knowing that being seen as a weaker player would get them through more than majority of the game. Does that also mean their social game was on par with HG's, when they knew Orbit would sacrifice himself to help them ride along, just like SH and Kyuhyun did with HG?
I'm okay with the fact he's the winner, and he's already got some of the foulest hate comments which I don't respect, but bigging up to say he was some sort of crazy mastermind isn't really right. He just gave off manipulative bf the whole time tbh, my friend's ex bf would have made the same play (I'm joking, I'm joking).
