A little while ago, I told @wretchedamaranth that I was almost certain Pete never says "I'm sorry" in the show, sharing my thoughts about it and what it means for his character. I was super confident in my belief that he hadn't. But then, I rewatched one of the best VegasPete FMV that exist on YouTube, and realized what an utter FOOL I was when I said it, because this happened:

We were both extremely normal over forgetting this CRUCIAL detail to this scene. But then, we obviously started analyzing it immediately: Y: ISN'T IT INCREDIBLE? THAT HE'S SHOWING REGRET HERE SO MUCH THAT HE FUCKING SAYS IT? A: I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm choosing myself. I'm sorry I'm a person. I'm sorry but you made me realise I'm a person. You made me realise I want to be treated like a person. I have to leave. I'm sorry. You're the reason I know I have to leave ---- *gunshot noises* Y: Also, to me it's "I'm sorry I am leaving you when I know that might destroy you. I saw a comment about whether or not Top needs a redemption arc and I just honestly don't think he needs one, obviously he shouldn't of slept with Boston but in this show that is one of the least bad things someone has done I don't know why he is the one that is required to have a redemption arc and I already think episode 7 showed us enough that he is actually remorseful

I can understand people who don't want Topmew to be endgame if cheating of any kind is a hard no, no matter the circumstance I just don't think Top needs to prove anymore he his worthy of Mew, either Mew forgives him or he doesn't his choice

Fun fact: a lot of the story ideas I have came from the world I designed for an Apocalypse World game, and at the time I was reading @attollogame and loved Sysba and wound up making a character with a similar premise of being a god banished to live in a human body. That character took on a life of their own and became like everybody's favourite NPC. But they were really specific to that game's story at that point and were very fultifaceted, so when I started writing Signal Hill (which has a totally different plot) I decided to split their role in the story into two different characters, Yvette and Aldrich.

In other words, if you trace it far enough back, 1/3 of my main cast is just Sysba from Attollo

oh also what are your thoughts on the recent hnk chapters I read them and they shattered my heart

I DONT EVEN KNOW ANYMORE you know at one point i was so upset by chapter 98 and 99 that i completely blocked it out of my memory and forgot about it for a while. that was funny. i was so upset when my friend reminded me what happened

but anyways hnk is such a beautiful piece of writing and it also makes me want to explode and crawl in a hole and die maybe. like i cant say that this sort of ending is completely unprecedented hnk is an odd series but like 99 and onward feel so strange and disconnected from everything else. i think thats mostly due to phos not even being phos anymore really and all of the other characters being out of the picture so it barely feels like the same series anymore. which im sure is like, the point, but still

i dont really know how it makes me feel. bad, mostly. i think its the kind of. lack of closure?? for phos? like when i think about hnk i think about phos and their relationships with like. shinsha and antarc and cairngorm and others but like none of phos' relationships really got any kind of proper closure. and it makes me feel miserable and awful. we all moved on but i stayed at ill find you a new job thats better and more fun. you know

if i had a nickel for every time while headcanoning character dynamics that don't exist much in canon, i ended up making the fan-favorite yaoi pairing instead a worryingly toxic friendship that's only hanging on by a thread, i would have two nickels but it's weird that it happened twice

I'm really just thinking about the "which is better: loving a popular character with bad fan opinions or loving a less popular character with good fan opinions" poll because I don't think the experiences are that different. Like, if you go hard for a less popular character, you have the benefits of talking to a small group of like-minded folk who do share good opinions, that's true. But any time wider fandom tries to interpret said less popular character, it's sure to be a take just as vacuous and wrong as popular character meta can be (because they genuinely haven't put in the effort to understand the character) and usually whatever that take is is what's going to be popularized (so people can continue not putting in the effort to understand the character). So then you still have to deal with misinterpretation and bad opinions of the character, but without the added bonus of lots of cool art and literal pages upon pages of fic to choose from. From personal experience, I don't really think this is better. I'm not sure it's worse, either, but I wouldn't call it better
