I...don't know how it's possible to capture the way a fic exists in my mind so perfectly it's like the artist reached into my soul, and yet that's what this feels like. This is one of the most beautiful artworks I've ever seen, and I can't believe it's from my fic, and this fic.

Normal, logical behavior. Normal, logical thing to say after using a mind meld to learn about the other Jim Kirk, and after learning of love, compassion, and mercy (he had to have seen these things in McCoy's mind), then Mirror Spock declares he must have his captain back.

It is a devotion that borders on irrational, more love than loyalty. Loyalty would make sense according to logic. It's cause and effect: obey and follow one man, and Mirror Spock will be rewarded with resources, promotion, and trust in a universe of subterfuge and opportunism. It is still a tentative, emotional experience at best (and certainly not aided by the nature of the Mirrorverse), but it makes sense according the order of Starfleet, the operation of a starship, and Mirror Kirk's command.

But for Mirror Spock to hold more in his heart, to hold a desire for his captain's return despite experiencing what McCoy knows of the other Jim Kirk, despite working with and observing this other Jim Kirk? For Mirror Spock to possibly hold love, an emotional, subjective, and highly personal experience that cannot be sufficiently understood through empirical means, especially through his own emotionless logic? I am chewing the wall right now.

(As a caveat, one could argue Mirror Spock merely desires the return to order and known certainty that is his Kirk. But there is still something to be noted about how Mirror Spock will choose his own captain despite experiencing--if not observing--love from the other McCoy and Kirk.)
