i’m not a huge fan of some of Harry’s music but if you could I’d love a comparison of some sort of his lyrics versus Louis’ (who is known for being a lyricist and whose songs are incredibly powerful)
I'm sure this was not meant to be funny but I'm sorry it made me laugh so much!!! The idea of comparing Harry's and Louis' skills as songwriters loooooooool - here's why:
Louis writes stuff like this:
We're sleepin' on our problems like we'll solve them in our dreams We wake up early morning and they're still under the sheets
Harry writes stuff like this:
Honey (Ah-ah-ah) I'd walk through fire for you Just let me adore you Oh, honey (Ah-ah-ah) I'd walk through fire for you Just let me adore you Like it's the only thing I'll ever do Like it's the only thing I'll ever do
Louis writes stuff like this:
Now if happiness is always measured By the life you design, that car on the drive Then you should feel better than ever But you know as well as I, it's all lies
Harry writes stuff like this:
Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar
Louis writes stuff like this:
It's an old curse, dreamers divin' head first Broken beaks and dead birds Can't get through the glass There's no use cryin' over spilled blood Carin' only kills love A kiss won't bring it back
Harry writes stuff like this:
Shine, step into the light Shine, so bright sometimes Shine, I'm not ever going back Shine, step into the light Shine, so bright sometimes Shine, I'm not ever going back Shine, step into the light Shine, so bright sometimes Shine, I'm not ever (Ooh)
So... yeah.... 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
(OK, I'm being purposely shady here, sue me!)
Both Harry and Louis have talked about the importance of the tracks order on their albums. For Louis it's because Walls tells a story - "about a break-up". Louis talks about the meaning of each song in the Track by Track videos. You can tell how involved he was in the writing and it's not a surprise coming from someone who prides himself of being a great lyricist and for having written a lot of songs during 1D.
For Harry, my understanding was that the track order was more important on a musical level. FL definitely doesn't tell a coherent story (and imo isn't musically coherent either). It's "all about having sex and feeling sad" and (I just found out) "the album contained “the toughest, most soulful songs he’s written yet”" [WS has entered the chat] LOL! Imo the lyrics are either bland pop love song lyrics or telling the story of someone who's whining about "being an arrogant son of a bitch" with the emotional maturity of a toddler. I guess Harry had some slightly more interesting lyrics in his first album, but everything got watered down simpler when FL had to be a commercial success. Also I would like to add an * when I say "Harry wrote". His inability to talk about the meaning of his songs (probably because there is none) and the fact that Kid Harpoon (his collaborator) has to be brought in all the time to discuss them makes you wonder about the depth of Harry's involvement in songwriting.
TLDR: let's not compare the genius, depth and storytelling of Louis' lyrics with Harry's generic-pop-song-made-for-radio lyrics (that he doesn't even write).
