The one Good Omens interpretation/headcanon, which restored my sanity
Disclaimer: English is not my native language, but it's the only one I can think and write in right now. Biggest apologies to all the grammar aesthetes out there (I see you, I'm one of you when it comes to my mother tongue).
Big words of gratitude to FelisProlixus user from GO subreddit. You helped me to arrange my thoughts and go into the final interactions even deeper. Literally saved me, pal.
My previous two posts, the deleted ones, were telling in details why and how much GO 2 finale turned my world inside out (yep, not upside down). Maybe because of my text being to personal or a bit too late (GO s2 aired over a month ago), I decided on keeping my musings just for myself. I'll just summarise my thoughts and feels into one term: life-changing. You don't expect this from a simple, fun and quirky ”filler” season, and that's why it knocks you senseless right on spot.
Tumblr media
Perhaps, if season 3 would have had the greenlit already, I wouldn't have bothered to invest myself into the topic around s2 ending that much. But life is unfair, so here we are.
GO s2 finale leaves us with a dramatic cliffhanger. On the first watch we see our beloved mischievous, but kind-hearted demon, who finally found the courage to confess his feelings to his companion, and a st naive piece of an angel, who clings to the “greater good” instead of running away with the love of his life (we know that you love him, Aziraphale! We have been observing your heart-shaped puppy emotions around Crowley long enough!).
We learn moments later that there is nowhere to run as the Second Coming is just around the corner, but we still experience high frustration at how things ended between the two. Yes, both want to be together, but they envision “together” differently, and both fail to hear and understand the other side. Simple and heartbreaking, let's move on.
Oh wait, how come this is it?! End of the season? And no one knows when or even if the final season will happen?!
Tumblr media
And so with this hurtful uncertainty in the air, I've been left with no choice but to look into finale much deeper, analyse every detail out there and search for follower thinkers on the internet (many of us experienced the same, no wonder there are several theories interpreting the ending already).
And then one day (yesterday, actually) I run into one particular post on subreddit. And then everything clicked.
So, let me dive into last 10 or so minutes of the show. You are welcome to follow along.
Aziraphale
The one thing I'm sure of Aziraphale is that he is intelligent. Yes, he likes to label things in white and black, but it doesn't mean he thinks the same way. He is not clueless, not the Aziraphale I learned to know and love. Why else show runners would have shown us his character development in the way they did? Aziraphale discovering his gray area (even it's being very light shade) is one of the main things two seasons gave us.
It's easy for us viewers to see and hang on into his top layer of religious trauma and occasional regression to the black and white way of thinking. Perhaps it's how things really are. But let me hope that there is more.
Aziraphale is not ambitious when it comes to ruling the Up, the promotion only means that much that he will be granted with a possibility to affect things in turn to save Earth. To “make a difference”. But what if there is more to it? What if agreeing on Metatron's proposal is the only right option at this moment? What if his safety and Crowley's safety depends on it? We have shown only the part of dialogue at “give me coffee or give me death” cafe, but why not the whole sitting and only Aziraphale as a narrator?
Note one more thing. Aziraphale isn't shown much excited about Metatron's proposal at ANY point except the pitch talk in front of Crowley. And even during the talk he also looks... alerted? Why this overwhelming joy and looking out the window at the same time. Maybe someone is observing them right now, so he has no choice but to act in a way he is acting?
Crowley
His case is more simple. Our beloved demon has a strong sense of “self”, he has been on “his” side for centuries and is more that comfortable with it (although lonely at times). The only thing he apparently needed is to realise how earthy his feelings for Aziraphale are. He knew that A is his person for ages, but kept missing the last dimension of them (feelings). Sadly, with earthy feelings of affection, earthy downsides follow. Coming back to Aziraphale for a moment: note how he behaves during the confession (and it's something many of us missed the first time!). He is shaking his head, glances at the window and is clearly in distress. But Crowley just keeps failing to listen to Aziraphale at this crucial moment, dwelling on his emotions instead.
The kiss
Or the last nail in the coffin. This gesture was anything but romantic. It's full of desperation, anger, disbelief and misunderstanding. The dramatic timing and loud angelic choir music makes your heart explode (thanks, Neil Gaiman and co., I will never be the same person I was before this event). And then again, let's look at this moment closer. Aziraphale is fighting himself so badly here. He wants to return the gesture, he even does so at brief moment, but then stops himself because the timing is so wrong.
Tumblr media
I forgive you
Heavy breathing, agony and, once more, a quick look out the window. Aziraphale wanted to say something else first, but quickly collected himself and said “I forgive you” instead with so much pain in his eyes that it's unbearable to watch (Michael Sheen, bravo! If I ever become a performer, I will always refer to you as the biggest influence).
Tumblr media
This sentence contains a big load of emotions and can be interpreted many ways. I forgive you for kissing me is the obvious one, but it can also mean: I forgive you because you didn't follow me to Heaven when I asked. I forgive you because you failed to understand the situation we are in. I forgive you because you didn't trust me.
And what about Crowley? His kiss was the last attempt to keep his best friend on Earth. But the real life is not like in Richard Curtis films. When love magic didn't happen, Crowley sighs, says "Don't bother" and walks away. Shown simple enough to agree on what he is feeling at that moment without a further need to dig deeper.
Tumblr media
We usually understand Crowley much better than we understand Aziraphale, don't we?
But what's that, our heartbroken demon goes not too far and seen waiting by his Bentley. Why? One can assume that he got Aziraphale's hint and plays along. It is a healing interpretation, but if turns out to be true, we will be brutally striped of the heavy emotional impact we experienced just now. I think we should expect horses, not zebras with this one.
Split screen
First, I want to praise composer David Arnold for the music during this scene. I didn't know my heart is able to shatter on atomic level, but it did.
Tumblr media
So, what do we see here: Crowley is obviously heartbroken and the next thing he'll probably come up with is ingestion of alcohol in astronomical doses. Or maybe he will flee straight to Hell and take over the position of Grand Duke. Wait and see, right?
Tumblr media
And then there is Aziraphale, more interesting once more. So, he stands in the elevator with the spectra of micro expressions I probably haven't seen on his face before. What is all that? He is hurt, stressed, but uplifted at the same time? His final manic smile before everything goes blurry is going to haunt my dreams for sure.
Tumblr media
Finally, Metatron
Oh, this entity is up to something, I swear. How he executes his small and big manipulations is something very intriguing. “Give me coffee or give death”, all right.
Without more thoughts written down let's just agree that his agenda was to separate Aziraphale and Crowley. But why? Because they are so powerful together? There is probably more and I can't wait to find out. I trust that whatever it is, it's going to be E P I C.
P.S. I'm out to distract myself with other stuff. It's have been over a week of naked feels and it's... it's... not on! Peace.

Hello!
My name is Di ( but you can also call me Spades ), and this is the temporary version of my independent, semi-selective, canon divergent*, multiship and multiverse ask / RP blog for Raymond "Red" Reddington - the ultimate criminal deal broker, the facilitator (there's nothing Red can't get you, from a priceless piece of art to a house in any part of the world to a place to hide to a new life complete with all the necessary documents, a bank account and recommendations for starting a new business to basically any thing or service you can think of... and some that you can't) and negotiator for those who can pay for his services (including criminals, governments, rebels, politicians, businessmen, intelligence and other government agencies from all over the world), a criminal with a heart of gold (that very few from the criminal or police know about because his got a reputation to uphold), an excellent cook, a baby whisperer and an avid animal lover - from NBC's The Blacklist that I've made after my previous one - fedoraxcrowned - suddenly got terminated. Until my previous account is restored, this is a fully-functioning rp blog. Then, I'll probably move back. But I won't delete this blog nor any of its contents either way.
I’m selective in a way that I will write only what I see happening for my muse ( so, if you’re an OC, then it’ll be more comfortable for both of us if you have an about page, and if you’re from another fandom, then I will write with your muse if I see how our muses could click... that said, I'm very open and welcoming of crossovers, because, due to the nature of Red's character, it would be quite easy to fit him in most fandoms ) and what I have inspiration for at the moment.
I also have anxiety and occasional ( sometimes pretty long, sometimes short ) bouts of writing block and just started my first year at the uni of my dreams, so I may be slow with replies / have impromptu hiatuses.
*Honestly, I'm not even sure what's canon in this show anymore ( and, frankly, all the writers' flip-flopping is so tiring to try and follow that, at this point, I don't really care ) but what you need to know is that in my portrayal Red IS, in fact, the real Raymond Reddington but NOT a biological father of Jennifer Reddington and Elizabeth Keen, who - along with being Katarina Rostova's lover and Carla's ex - was his classmate and colleague that for now remains unnamed ( I'll write a post detailing how that came to be at some point in the future, but that's all you need to know for now ).

Unrelated to previous anon, but just a thought when scrolling through deleting unwelcome asks; even if something is "social contagion," at what point is it nonetheless a valid concern? I feel as if many, many things could, at their most basic level, be defined by "social contagion" if you want to be awful technical about it. Is it in our barest human instinct to punch a wall when we are angry? Or buy things online when we feel out of control? Or do we learn from others that anger can be expressed through violence and that material goods can bring us satisfaction? What defines social contagion that distinguishes it from evolving social norm? Is it social contagion convincing me to feel embarrassed when I lose my top in a pool? It's certainly not an innate human need, covering oneself, especially in the heat of summer.
It just feels silly to dismiss something as "social contagion," as if that meant it was meaningless. I feel that, in a way, DID is an awful lot of social contagion. Not in the sense that people would not have DID if not for the idea of it existing, but in the sense that the way parts form and behave is influenced by the world around us. We were given messages like "to be brave you must be loud," or "to be safe you must be quiet," and our brain took note. On some level of course this is true of everyone, I just feel it can be even more apparent when all these aspects of self were formed from a single brain, the same cells. All organic factors were equally accounted for, and all my parts still ended up different.
I'm not sure what the main point of this post is, other than just musing. Psychology does not exist on a separate, sterile plane of reality from our culture and our society. Maybe that's a good "thesis statement."

👍 - What inspired you to take up this muse?
✮ Character Interview ✮
👍 - What inspired you to take up this muse?
... Quite a couple things, actually?
First off, I... Sort of parted with my previous muse on an extremely sour note... It's a bit of a long story, but the less said about it, the better.
I had tried to get back into some of the other fandoms that I used to roleplay in? But it was sort of one of those things where, like, either people I used to roleplay with have moved on(or just aren't active anymore), the fandom is completely dead(looking at you, Wreck-It Ralph), or people just have no interest in that particular muse that you want to write with(the Horned King is an especially bad case, which stinks because he was the first character that I had ever written!).
But yeah, long story short: I gave up on my last muse because, frankly, I was tired of dealing with that particular fandom... Like I said, the less said about it, the better.
... But I wanted another character that I could write with. And maybe - hopefully - find another fandom where I actually felt welcome?
Secondly, I had taken a shine to the character...
Now, I had already read about the game on TvTropes. I knew what would have happened to the characters. I knew the little girl was doomed to die no matter what you tried to do. I knew Gilbert was destined to turn into a beast, despite expressing contentment that he could die human earlier in the game.
It's one thing reading about the characters. It's another when you actually meet the characters yourself.
There was just something really comforting about Gilbert's character. I'd leave the game, and my Hunter would be parked right by that lamp post next to that window. I'd quit the game for the night, and I'd sign off by that lamp post next to that window.
I know there was the Oedon Chapel and the Hunter's Dream, but that window at Central Yharnam, to me, sort of felt like my Bloodborne equivalent to Firelink Shrine or Majula.
And I hadn't really given this particular habit that much thought until my next playthrough of the game. And it kinda became one of those things where it's like, "you know, this is no longer about personal preference as a player. This is my character. She's choosing to come back to this window to check up on this person because both she and the player care."
And then came the fanart...
@jeza-red , @acridid-s , @yharnam-everchase , @living-snailures , @slightly-gay-pogohammer , @crystalclocktower , @weregreatatcrime , @valdotpng , @kaybonbon -- God, I'm probably forgetting someone. But there's so many different iterations of this one character whom we never once see in-game(ignoring the beast incident). And, like... Seeing what all these different people have come up with sort of added to the endearment toward this character.
Outside sort of helped drive the nail in further!
And gah! The deleted dialogue! That will never NOT break my heart that we COULD have had the option of trying to help this character, but for whatever reason, it got cut? I HATE - SO much - that all we can do is turn and leave him to his suffering.
I made another character, and I wanted to base that character off of Gilbert if he were somehow resurrected by the Hunter - now turned into a Great One. It was sort of one of those things where it was like...
"The game didn't give us the option of helping you. But god dammit, I am determined to save you, even if I have to do it my own way."
... And that's how my "Gilbert Run" started.
... And then it kinda started getting to a point where it was like: "Ya' know, that might be interesting to try out in RP."
I had also written a fanfic about the whole "Hunter visiting the window" scenario, and I kinda liked writing the character... I made a twitter over on twitter, and I finally decided to try my hand over on Tumblr.
I honestly wasn't sure how that was going to turn out -- I had no idea about the Soulsborne RP community, and I'm still, like, REALLY bashful when it comes to approaching peeps? And, picking this one character who's, more-or-less, incapacitated, was like a REALLY huge gamble, I feel?
But... So far, I do feel comfortable writing this character. I feel comfortable with the peeps that I have made contact with, few as they are(though I am always on the lookout for more!). And I am hoping to sort of delve more with this character and sort of try to shape out the different verses that I have in mind for this character?
I'm gonna end that there. But to those of you that have shown an interest, and to those of you whom I've met because of my hyper fixation on this character, I just want to say: Thank you.
Edit: And thank you for putting up with my tons and TONS of headcanons!

hi i was wondering how indie roleplaying works? i really want to start one for an oc, but i'm not 100% sure how the whole thing works.
Hi there Nonnie! Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, it’s been a rather long and dull day at work. Also, I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask since I am absolutely CRAP at explaining things. HOWEVER, I will give it my best shot.
Things You Will Need:
A Character: It looks like you’ve got one in your head, so you’re off to a great start!
A Blog: it is easiest if you use a blog with it’s own email, as opposed to a sideblog. You can’t like things or send asks from a sideblog and both of these features are pretty important for RP. Sideblogs can work, I have a couple myself, but if you’re just starting out I would recommend a primary blog.ON YOUR BLOG   -  An ‘about’ page: this is doubly important for OC’s since the rest of us will know nothing about them. A run down of who your character is and what they’re all about is important for other RPers to decide if they want to play with you or not. Many people won’t play with OC’s if there isn’t a detailed bio.  -  A ‘rules’ page: this isn’t necessary if you don’t have any rules but most people do and it’s expected that people read them before following. Often rules will include whether or not the blog is selective or not, any triggers they may have, and how they generally conduct themselves here in indie rp land.  -  A ‘verses’ page: Verses are just different universes your character plays in. For example, if your OC is fandom specific, your verses will include a default verse that you play in the most, perhaps an older or younger verse for different times in your characters timeline, alternate verses where things played a little differently and your character ended up on a different path etc etc. If your OC is fandomless, i recommend these and also fandom specific verses, so that the people you follow from those fandoms know how you expect to play with them. You can also have alternate fandom verses if your character is already fandom specific if you want to broaden your partner pool.
Icons: these are by no means compulsory all though they are fun. Roleplayable icons of your muses FC can break up a wall of text or help your partner have a better understanding of what’s happening in your post. But there are plenty of indies out there who don’t bother with icons and that’s just fine too.
Once you’ve got all that together, go and follow some people! Make sure you read their rules clearly before doing so as you might find that you’re not as compatible as you hoped. It also helps to make yourself a little promo and tag it with ‘indie rp’ and with the fandom you’re playing in so that other people can see it and follow you too.
A good way to get started once you’ve got some followers is to send ask memes! You’ll find that a lot of the people you followed posted memes with sentence starters that you can send in and start a thread with! Often people will be happy if you continue this meme as a thread once they’ve answered ( but remember to always check their rules first to make sure ).
Liking people’s starter calls is another one. Check to make sure you are mutuals with the person, or that they aren’t mutuals exclusive, and like their post! They’ll write up a starter and you can carry on from there.
Or post your own starter call. A little “like this for a starter” and some people will be eager to have you start things off.
A bit on etiquette:
I’ve said this a couple of times already but ALWAYS READ PEOPLE’S RULES. There’s often a lot of important information in there. As well as letting you know how selective they are with their partners, there will be trigger information which is very important to know about people who might be seeing your posts, also things like age, which is important to know regarding smut posts ( remember is against the law to write smut with someone who is under age! ). You’re not expected to remember every single one of everyone’s rules all the time, but it is polite to read them before deciding to follow someone, and to check back occasionally, to make sure you’re not about to break their rules.
Trim your posts. It can get a bit messy when people let their threads get really long all in one post. It takes up a lot of dash space and can make some of us a little anxious. Just, when you go to reply to someone’s post, delete your own previous post from the thread to keep things tidy.
Be kind to your fellow rpers, and most importantly be patient. This is a hobby, not a job and as such no one is obligated to be here all day every day. We’re here because it’s fun. And it stops being fun when people are jerks. It’s perfectly fine to remind someone occasionally that you’re waiting, but don’t hassle them. There’s probably a hundred reasons they haven’t got to your thread yet and that’s fine.
