urg wait abt the music in dungeon meshi. i think the first op was soooo amazingg the sound is so kinda medieval it was really cool... i also like the second op but i realised lately that the cuter op would've probs fit better with the first half of the season but perhaps the first op was more engaging? that kinda serious op that Hooks you into the series... the choice to play that upbeat ed after That episode where you know Falin 💀 probs was just how things turned out, originally i thought it would be cooler if they put a more downcast ed there kinda like that madoka switch after mami's death (i think, it's been awhile lol) but upon thinking abt it more the juxtaposition of the horrifying and somber moment kinda reflects the series tone well and especially laios, some of the Things this Fukicng Guy says. like bro...... he has an interesting mind.

i just watched Descendants: the rise of red for the first time and i have a lot of thoughts.

lets start with what i thought was good: the songs for the most part were okay, i quite liked 'love aint it' and that duet they sing then they're trying to decide if they should trust each other. i think the costuming was nice. also, im gonna be real with you all, they made hook gorgeous and i loved how cocky and silly he was in the maybe 2 lines he had. but as a dbd fan joshua colley did throw me off a bit at first, i was questioning how he went from monty to captain hook because thats kind of crazy. obviously that isn't their fault though.

okay. now onto the bad:

first of all, the pacing was terrible. it felt really weird because 85% of the movie was just filler and build up and then the actual climax and ending lasts for 10 minutes. and because it was so short some of the characters they introduced felt useless. i found this especially with the VKs. they're supposed to be the main antagonists but they have barely any screen time and you don't really get a sense of who any of them are as people. they pretty much introduced characters and then forgot about them and had them just linger in the background. same with the settings, they introduce this giant fish thing where the VKs hang out and a whole new school and cinderella's home and things but these will probably never be seeen again unless they decide to set another film in the past. but i honestly don't think they will so these characters and locations are probably going to get thrown away now, never to be seen again.

i think it could have benefitted from being a series, then we could have seen more of the characters and had some development and it wouldn't have felt so... i don't know, simple? the solution to everything seems way too easy for what was happening. at this point i would have even preferred they did a cliff hanger or something so it wasn't so anticlimactic at the ending. the first few movies felt like they really filled the space sufficiently, but this didnt.

i also feel like they completely threw canon out the window. the best example is when in the first movie maleficent tells mal that 'when she was her age she was cursing entire kingdoms' and then in this movie she was a lackey for Ursula's little sister. it doesn't make much sense to me. they also ignored the general canon of disney by giving most of the characters completely different backstories. they basically discredited the entire aladin movie by having them meet at school rather than what happened in the actual movie, same with most of cinderella. also hades is a god so why on earth is he going to a mortal school? he has no need for that. not to mention the fact that morgana/morgan le fay isn't a disney villan. they replaced her in the sword and the stone and even so, with merlin running the school it doesn't make sense for them to allow him to be there since in some versions morgan/morgana was the one who trapped merlin for eternity and even in the versions where that isn't the case she still basically destroys everything.

I also thought the main characters felt pretty weak. Both Chloe's decision to help Red break into the office and their decision to trust each other at the beginning felt like they came out of nowhere, they didn't really have much to persuade them or explain why they changed their minds at either point. and with Red, we dont see anything that would make us assume she's good or bad, we're only really told by red that she thinks she's bad but she wants to be good, and when she suddenly is at the end we didn't really see her be good, they just said she is, and we also literally see her do bad things. she got a bit annoyed and called for cinderella to be beheaded and she wants to steal and threatens to rip out someones tongue. we have only really seen her do bad things and then go 'oh no now i feel bad'. for a movie called the rise of red, they really dont have Red do much rising or really any kind of development, she's pretty much the same person at the start and the end of the movie.

would i watch it again? definately not. but i think if they want to continue with these characters then they could, i just think they should do things a bit differently next time.

What's the season four beef

ok!! i can finally get to this ask

really i think my main problem with season 4 overall was the pacing. the way the story was being presented made it rather hard to focus on a lot of the characters, focusing on statements about the dark instead. while this was necessary for the whole story arc regarding the dark ritual, that in and of itself was very....anticlimactic and dragged out far longer than it needed to be. it didnt provide much character growth, to my knowledge, other than to show jon's dependence on statements as a source of energy. however i feel as if this could have been done in a different way, placing focus on the characters to do so.

the season, also because of this, makes it rather hard to empathize with many of the characters. while i felt bad for melanie, i wasnt really able to see all the events leading up to her eventual resignation from the archives and thus her quitting didn't have much of an emotional impact on me. while the way she quit WAS horrific, it was harder for me to be as invested in it as i think the podcast intended.

i did end up liking daisy more this season because of the focus we got on her arc. her fighting something that is so utterly engraved and consuming her as a parallel to jon was genius, and the whole episode in the buried really really got me. i was terrified for a character i previously felt had herself under control. this really bums me out because if they were able to do this with daisy they could have done it with melanie or basira.

i understand as well, why not much focus was put onto martin as a character this season. perhaps as a narrative device to further him from the cast, thus imitating the lonely. however i could be reading too far into it, but if it was a narrative device it's genius! i did like jon and martin meeting in the lonely and the "i really loved you, you know" moment, however it lost a lot of the weight it could have had again, because the pacing this season was so heavily focused on the dark ritual and not really anything other than that for a majority of it.

to me, the focus this season should have been more about the characters as characters and their relationships, while still maintaining the stakes of possible world ending rituals and a new entity possibly emerging (which the extinction is its own can of worms and this post is already long enough). this is especially because jon has Literally Just Woken Up From A Coma of SIX MONTHS. we did get some post coma interactions but really it felt as if jon could have spent any time in the hospital and the result would have been the same. season 2 was able to accomplish this in the way of us the listeners caring about sasha enough to be scared when she got replaced! the stakes of the fears were still at play, and the statements themselves were still interesting, but we ALSO got a look into the archival staff and as a result became attached enough that their deaths shocked us.

TL;DR: the magnus archives is a podcast full of interesting characters as well as a fascinating world building system. the characters in this show are all very unique from one another, and this allows you to care deeply for them. however, season four as a whole got too wrapped up in itself it forgot what made it scary and what it was trying to say. you can throw all the horrors in the world at a group of characters, but if we dont know them as people or are given the opportunity to care about them, we aren't going to be scared for them.

Episode 28~ Well, I heard this season’s supposedly got 60 episodes total (don’t quote me, that may be wrong) so we’re almost at the halfway point... I’m gonna wait till episode 30 to talk about that though.

This episode I actually rather liked, even though absolutely NOTHING happens other than the important things at the very beginning and the very end. That’s becoming a pattern this season - lots of nothing sandwiched in between hints of big dramatic things to come. Eh. But yeah, I liked it anyway :P for a few reasons that are probably not that objective. It’s not the kind of episode that’s gonna make you want to rewatch though.

Last week we ended with Patamon evolving to Angemon in what was a pretty anticlimactic moment, despite a big villain being there and a cliffhanger ending. Seemed like a waste after all we went through just to get him.

However, I do think the beginning of episode 28 makes up for it somewhat. Angemon gets to show off how Very Very Cool he is, but it’s also made clear that he’s not up to full strength. Seeing him throw all his effort into the battle to save them even though it’s clear he won’t win was actually pretty great.

Poor Takeru gets thrown back all by his lonesome

So last episode, I said I thought Darknightmon was gonna go for Hikari and was surprised and somewhat relieved when he stayed interested in Takeru/Angemon. Um... I guess that was a red herring x’D he’s after Hikari after all.

He literally says “I have no use for you” to Angemon LOL sick burn my dude

Hikari: “There is a new cutest child.”

Takeru: “Um, actually the phrase is ‘smallest child’.“

Hikari: “No. Cutest child. Do not interrupt my moment, impertinent one.”

Grogu: “Did someone say ‘cutest child’?”

Angemon’s peeved that Hikari stole the spotlight so he immediately jumps into the way and prevents Darknightmon from grabbing her.

Angemon: “No one treats ME like some washed up has-been!”

But as hard as he tries, Angemon just hasn’t recovered enough. It probably took all the energy Patamon had stored up just to evolve. His wings lengthen and release into millions of shining feathers, and both he and Darknightmon de-evolve.

I really did kind of enjoy this battle! Seeing Takeru be all strong and heroic, and the desperation with which Angemon tries to protect him... me likey.

Next it’s a nod to 99 series! D-D-Digimon!

Yamato screams like he’s at the dentist’s.

There’s lots of freaky black lightning that rains down seeming to give dark energy and empower random Digimon who get hit by it. Just to ensure our heroes don’t get to waste time on any more “breaks”

A single feather floats down where Taichi lands and dissolves. I am not sure what happened to it, if it did anything or if it was what protected them until this point...

Taichi and Hikari wake up and discover they are alone. So last week I thought they’d get swept off into pairs... I didn’t even consider that they’d each wind up alone. Mixed feelings! On the one hand, seeing each kid interact with their partner and their partner only was one of the good things about this episode (except it wasn’t always true, which I’ll get to in a minute). On the other hand, my fears last week were that whoever ended up with Taichi would be overshadowed by him. Turns out, if no one’s with him but Hikari, that means all the plot stuff is with them and the others have nothing in particular to do. -_-; At least not this week. My hope is that it’s coming (and there were a few promising hints this episode so), but next week’s trailer looks pretty Taichi-centric too..

Taichi: “Can I help it if I’m so charming cool awesome and dare I say it adorable”

The impact of everyone being “alone” is cut short by the fact that they can all still communicate via digivice. I would be fine with that, except for what I said earlier - they wind up spending too much time talking to each other instead of their partners. Particularly the ones who like to Plan Things. Eh.

Yamato tells Taichi to protect Hikari, doesn’t even mention that he’s sadly separated from Takeru at this point ;_; He knows Takeru’s okay though because Takeru is also communicating by digivice.

Sora: “Hello yes, it’s in my contract that I get to be awesome X number of times per episode, and I have doubts that you are making your quota.”

I love how Tentomon’s job is basically Koushirou’s secretary x’D “Put my calls on speakerphone Margaret” “Yes Mr Izumi”

The partners really are suited to each other... Koushirou gets a secretary, Jou gets a mom, Mimi gets a gal pal, Yamato gets a therapist, Sora gets a sister, Taichi gets a... preschool child who eats paste... -.-’

takeru and hikari don’t count because they’re Special and their main attribute is Cute

All the kids have ended up alone except for super-charged monsters who want to eat them. Palmon hoists Mimi up a very sheer rock trying to escape Golemon who is not great at climbing but doesn’t seem to know that

Meanwhile Jou... is like “Ohh yeah, you guys have it so rough, I’m trying my hardest too, keep fighting the good fight y’all”

He’s relaxing in the hot springs and freaking studying.

Gomamon’s unusually fine with it though. Because he gets to swim. He says “Let’s invite the others here.” They’re both like YEAH THIS IS WHAT I CALL A VACATION

It’s all fun and games until the hairy guy with the tattoos and veiny arms sharing your hot spring starts staring at your ding-a-ling. Uhhhhhhh.

I’m not going to get into everything he says but it’s pretty much more of the same regarding the power influx from the human world to the digital world and the way the Zurumon’s attacks are wreaking havoc with electronics...

Taichi almost says “You’re so sugoi!” Almost. He’s grateful anyway. *chews on those Taishiro breadcrumbs till they’re broken down to atoms*

Then... Hikari’s acting strange!

Agumon: “What are you looking at?”

Hikari: “I don’t know.”

Taichi: “You don’t know but you’re looking at it?”

Hikari: “It kind of looks like Steve Buscemi... it’s hard to tell”

Taichi’s not too wigged out by freaky Hikari because he’s lived with her all his life, and she’s always been a freak.

Baby Hikari: “Shteeve... bushemiii....”

Agumon: “Your sister’s weird.”

Taichi: “Yeah but she’s MY weird sister.”

Yamato is fighting, of course. He stops for a moment to be impressed by how well Takeru’s handling himself. Garurumon points it out. I suppose it’s simply time to accept that this season Yamato is just not the disaster boy he was in 99 x’D

(Since they already seem to have their Crests loaded in their Digivices and got to Perfect level without any talk of values and personal strengths, I don’t know how much of the old Crest legacy remains in this season.) I, uh, did the same thing in my fanfic so I guess I’m just biased... These could totally be Evil Rubies Of Darkness and Terror but I’d rather have Crests :p Of course I would have expected Mimi to find green stones in that case sooo... maybe not.

Anyway she and Palmon are suitably distracted from running from Golemon and go mining instead. I’m sure that will not cause any problems.

We swing back to Taichi and Hikari, who are being approached by a big scary monster...

Taichi: “Watch my Tarzan impression.”

Hikari: “Nooo! I don’t want to be Jane!”

Fortunately Agumon evolves just to catch them in midair x’D Now is not the time for impressions, Taichi, seriously.

They are attacked by Volcdramon, which is a dumbass name.

Voldramon: “I AM VOLCRADMON, THE VOLCANO DIGIMON”

Taichi: “Velcromon the Velcro Digimon?”

Voldramon: “what NO i am Volcdramon-”

Hikari: “Voltronmon? Voldemortmon?”

Voldramon: *sniveling* “why does this happen EVERY time i JUST want to be one of the cool guys youre all such BULLIES”

MetalGreymon and Volcdramon face off, but something’s not right! Much like... the Digimon in the last episode whose name I already forgot *cough*, Volcdramon seems able to absorb other Digimon’s power. This presents a problem because last time it took all of them shooting into its mouth together to overload it so they could win. MetalGreymon is having a hard time on his own as Volcdramon just absorbs all his attacks.

Hikari prays to Jesus to save them. Digimon is approved for Christian families 👼👼👼

Taichi promises Hikari everything will be okay. His back-and-forth with MetalGreymon here is kind of cool. Every time MetalGreymon takes a hit, Taichi’s encouragement and coaching?? I guess keeps frustration at bay.

Buuut eventually they’re both feeling pretty desperate :P It was hard for me to take this battle seriously since, after all we’ve seen MetalGreymon capable of, it seems weird that he should be struggling this much. But obviously they don’t just want to make him invincible. And this problem makes sense: the ability of Digimon to absorb attacks and turn them into energy is definitely a new problem.

The question is, how do we solve it?

Apparently it helps if you have a little sister who’s some kind of super battery.

Taichi: “Nothing shocks me anymore with Hikari. She could announce she’s been Beyonce this whole time and I would believe it”

WarGreymon appears (again) as his goldeny vision self, defeats Volcdramon, then promptly de-evolves back to Agumon.

So the question is, why is this happening... From earlier episodes we know Agumon & co are some group of legendary warriors who have had their memories tampered with (??) to some extent (because they do still know each other, or at least Agumon and Gabumon remember knowing each other). Omegamon’s a given for that of course so I suppose that’s why. Hikari seems to be the key to unlocking the legendary warriors, maybe with Takeru. That’s my guess. Of course, Tailmon’s probably already in the bad guys’ clutches, much like Patamon was. I hope she’s still working for them. I want more double agent fun times. Also ANGST

Hikari: “Thank you, Agumon-” *disappears*

Taichi: “GEEZ I can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t even breathe without something bad happening anymore, like excuse me for BLINKING”

Yeah so... Skullknightmon appears and abducts Hikari like it’s nothing xD

Skullknightmon: “What’s under arm number two? Iiiiit’s your sister!”

Taichi: “Aw damn, I wanted the sports car”

Taichi quickly gives chase. I assume Agumon’s pretty exhausted after that and probably can’t evolve now. Bad timing. Oooor maybe this is all how Skullknightmon planned it...

Then... the unthinkable! Hikari looks at her brother rushing desperately to save her... and turns away!

Taichi is SHOCKED! Le GASP!

Taichi: “But but but I’m the MAIN CHARACTER”

Hikari: “Not anymore bitch it’s my show now”

Yeah okay jokes aside! This bit was AWESOME. Like, I’m sure it’s obvious that she can tell the voice that “called” her to the digital world is with Skullnightmon. Or at least, her heart’s telling her she has to go with him in order to meet that person (Tailmon, duh). I’ll be surprised if that’s not what’s going on. But... to so coldly just turn her back on her brother... I mean, maybe she also thinks she’s protecting him... but SHE JUST GOT HERE... holy crap...

To think we spent so long theorizing that Takeru would be the one abducted but no it’s Hikari... In retrospect should have been obvious. She’s 1) a girl and therefore a damsel, and 2) the one who was abducted in 99 xP

But I really like her semi-willingly going off with Skullnightmon. Much better than just screaming as she’s whisked away King Kong-style. In 99 she also got abducted voluntarily (I mean, it was coercion, so... that’s not voluntary, but you know what I mean). So they kept that in this season and I like it.

That’s it for this week’s episode! So the bits that I liked were the individual moments with the kids and their partners, of which we had more than usual but still not nearly enough. Nowhere near. In the end it was still a Taichi episode.

As a Taichi fan... it’s not like I’m ever sad that he gets more focus. But I love ALL the kids and they’re NOT getting development. We do keep getting hints about them but it’s so, so, so slow. To be fair, it’s not like we know THAT much about Taichi either. He gets so much focus because he’s always fighting. This season doesn’t seem concerned with personality and character bits like the 99 one, and I am gonna compare them for that. Because I think that was the heart of the 99 show. Without it, it’s missing something. I keep hoping it’ll come back, we keep getting those hints and special moments here and there, but the plot is such a distraction... if it was like a really good plot maybe I’d care less but...

Next week...  as far as I can see, it’s another Taichi episode xP But I do think they’ll do the same as this episode and intersperse Taichi’s battle with what’s going on with the others too. If that’s how they do it, I won’t mind. It might even be better. Fine, Taichi can fight, as long as the others are showing us more about themselves and getting other things done in the meantime. Mimi and Jou both look promising. Takeru too. Sora and Yamato, not sure..

god i love this shows approach to Everything so far,....as ruth put it, half the time its like ‘oh wow they should do [x]/i wish theyd do [x] but ofc they wont cause its a shounen’ but then they DO do [x] and its like damn thats dope 

anyways i love how gon is increasingly approaching situations with his Plucky Shounen Protag Attitude in full swing, and he pretty much gets shot down every time. BUT his general determination to see killua bc killuas his FRIEND and hes gonna RESCUE HIM is still a good and pure motivating force 

like here, when hes climbing over the wall and hes like whatever i dont wanna have to deal w/being tested thats bullshit, i wanna see killua, my intentions are pure, im gonna try my luck with the dog....i was like ok yeah he’ll get over and like tame or defeat the dog and the guard will be suitably impressed bc nobodys ever done That before, and then gon will continue on to get killua 

but NOPE instead the guard calls him down and explains that gon Will Die if he tries that, and then the guard will die too for letting that happen. and gon is like oh shit my actions have consequences for people other than me, wow. 

and THEN the guard takes them in to meet the dog. and hot DAMN that is a scary creature. not even really a dog tbh. they did an excellent job making the dog Legit Scary and not just like, big and flashy looking....those eyes are so soulless, and the proportions are freaky 

and the guard says exactly what i was thinking - that gon would use his Country Boy Woodland Creature Skills to workaround the dog....but then the subversion - this creature is NOTHING like the woodland critters gon is probably used to dealing with. theres no way gon stood a chance here. the guard just saved him from a really unfortunate death 

i love all the Super Heavy Stuff in the servant house that seems so inconvenient vbhjdkfasjfld. also forgot to mention earlier but the guard guy being Absolutely Ripped was wild and kinda funny 

training montage! gon continues to be so cute. and i love so much how leorio and kurapika are like no, you rest, we’ll take care of this. good parents!!!!

and then!!!! they sync up and use the power of gay love to almost open the gate. but then gon uses the power of Improbable Shounen Protag Healing Speed to toss that arm sling off and help out

i think we’re gonna have this OP for a while, as the part just at the end shows gon and hisoka fighting in what looks to be an arena, and ik the next arc is the heavens arena arc, which im assuming is the tournament arc....

also i have no idea what that weird building in the OP is but my guess is that its the building w/the heavens arena in it bc its tall and,,,,heaven 

i predict there wont be much fighting in this little arc bc how tf else is it so short. at this point i rlly think gon is just gonna grab killua and go lmao. im super curious abt how thats gonna go down, considering that killua is currently strung up just bc he wont apologize...so i cant imagine his family would just let him leave w/gon. i wonder if killua will fight them, or if gons determination will impress them and then theyll let killua go (doubt it)

ok i Think ive found. as much things in dreaming mary as i care to 

overall verdict: great visuals, great concept, great sound/music design, but very little plot/story, Very Small game, feels like a seed of a concept that could be expanded out into a really great game but it doesn’t really go very far with it, what there is of it is good theres just. not much of it. puzzles are not very intuitive/lots of back and forth/really irritatingly easy to miss details, feels kind of anticlimactic no matter what ending you get to but?? i still enjoyed it 

i tried going back to the Spooky Zone after i got a seed and

i looked at a walkthrough to see if i missed anything obvious and apparently if you get here without the gold key you can’t escape and all you can do is go back to bed (i didnt see any other things in the walkthrough that were significant enough to go back for)

wow i do NOT like this being black as long as it is (there was music/etc going on during it but nothing visually, could’ve been a glitch but i think it was intentional? none of my controls seemed to do anything)

im missing a bunch of context here bc i didnt get screenshots of every relevant line but i think what im getting here is: mari is being abused by her father, almost definitely sexually (”he’s coming, he’s chasing you, he’s always chasing you,” the sleazy way boaris talks to you/the really fuckin unsettling undertones, “good girl, sweet girl, you’re mine,” the loss of innocence/losing petals metaphor, she was locked in her room by her father before she got the dream key, the radio mentioned she lives alone with her father and doesn’t go to school or leave the house), her dreams are her Escape but are also often manifestations of her fears/her subconscious, the animals represent people in her life (the bunny’s the maid, im not sure if the penguin is her tutor or her uncle or elements of both, i dont. know what foxanne is, boaris is her dad) 

they’re either dead in real life (the Dead Shadows when they’re removed from the dream) or have abandoned/otherwise left her so her dream is portraying them as dead (to her), or maybe just once boaris’ interference gets too far it’s her Fear/Subconscious Trauma overtaking the escapist fantasy of the dreamworld 

i think the scribbleman is also her father, boaris is probably her father when he’s being “nice” and “loving” and the scribble monster is him when he’s angry/abusing her, she’s trying to cope with those two conflicting sides of her father and that’s how it’s coming out in the dream 

following boaris or getting captured by the scribbles result in bad ends because doing nothing or complying with her father’s abuse will not save her. the dreamworld is small and there’s not really that much to do because her escapist dream fantasy is ultimately Pretend, she can’t just retreat into dreams and pretend everything is okay, she can’t stay in that space forever, and the people in her life either can’t or won’t help her- ultimately the only way she can save herself is to escape the situation and get away from her father 

some of the game files are also accessible, i cant find assets or anything but the sound files are in there

the sound effect for the voice that says “mari.......” occasionally is titled “mommari” implying that the voice (and potentially the angel) are mari’s mother (which, since the radio said mari inherited her dream powers from her mother, would make sense) 

and the file for the SCRIBBLE INCOMING creepy whispers/etc is “BADDAD” so that’s. even more evidence that it’s her dad

i had to look up the password for the angel room, turns out its an easter egg where mary suddenly gets hadouken powers and just fuckign blasts the scribble into next week and wins the game :’) bless

she's heartbroken, she realizes. it's 12 am on a weekend and she's surprisingly tired, and heartbroken. if this is heartbreak, how come i don't feel my world crashing down? she listens to the sad songs in her ipod. it hurts. but instead of a raw slaughter in her chest, it's more of a muted ache. it reminds her of when you bleed and you press the wound hard to stop it from bleeding. her chest kind of feels like that now. and her eyes won't stop stinging either. she has to look up every five minutes to stop the salty tears from spilling. maybe it hurts less because she doesn't expect anything from this love either. she knows loving him is pointless and is going to bite her back at the end, yet she still can't stop herself. her chest feels like it's been weighed down by something unpleasant and dark, and she starts finding it a little bit hard to breathe. after we both become our own person / after i stop missing you / after i've been hurt enough / that's when i should let go of your hand - the last verse is block b's in a million years. wow i know, how anticlimactic, whatta let down, a kpop song??? ye fuck u thats why i dont know, this was on the sadder end of the spectrum in terms of my poems/proses/pieces, yet i forgot when or who was this about. and this- just makes me think how insignificant some things are, yanno? i'm pretty sure i wrote this while i couldn't sleep during midnight and i thought of a certain someone--i cant seem to recall who though--yet i don't feel a thing anymore. i can't even remember them. so yeah, this too shall pass i guess.
