Fallout 4 - Various Flirting Lines!
MacCready:
"I heard super mutants were kidnapping their victims. *chuckles* So, someone as cute as you should stay far away."
"You know... if you wanted a sniping lesson or something, I could help you out with that."
"You could steal my sweetroll and I wouldn't even be mad. *laughs* Sorry, heard that one from a couple a while back."
Hancock:
"Seeing double of you has got to be the greatest thing ever discovered by, well, me."
"Do you ever get tired of being the most beautiful woman/man of the wastes? Must be exhausting..."
"If you get cold just let me know, sunshine. I don't have a problem warming you right up."
Cait:
"Yer really special to me, ya know that?"
"If ya weren't so busy gettin' chased by super mutants all th' time, I'd be kissin' ya more often."
"I'm startin' to see that a lot of 'em Diamond City guards look at ya th' way I do. I outta kick 'em where it hurts for that."
Piper:
"Wow Blue, I think your best lighting may be the moonlight. You look amazing."
"If you want to take the night off and relax, I know a place where we can get some privacy..."
"I really can't decide what my favorite version of you is. The badass, war-machine... the cute, lovable... The nifty, brainiac... All of you is just amazing."
Nick:
"No one can work as hard as you do and still look that damn great."
"So, you're into robots? Hm..."
"Maybe we should look into repairing these old parts so I can take care of you good, doll."
Preston:
"No one can wear blue quite like you, General."
"I consider myself to be one of the luckiest men alive, all thanks to you."
"Maybe we should both take some time off from work... to do some things... together."
Danse:
"Solider. (Blushes) Um, a mission, just the two of us..."
"I am somehow always at a loss of words around you... may just be the affect you have on me, but I won't be one to complain."
"Would this be an inappropriate time to kiss you?”
Maxson:
"Did you do something new with your hair? It's nice."
"I haven't slept that good since... ever. I feel safe with you."
"If you wanted to call in sick today, just stay here with me, you know... I wouldn't mind."
Curie:
"Maybe you should stay around a little longer, madame/monsieur! So I can... make sure you are well, of course!"
"There are still so many fascinating things I want to learn about you, madame/monsieur! You truly are someone special.”
"How is it possible for someone to be so filled with danger but cute as a button? Very confusing, no?"
Deacon:
"Stop giving me that look or I'll make out with you right now. — Okay, don't say I didn't warn you. Come here!"
"Has anyone ever told you how nice of an as– smile you have?"
"It seems like we're always on the move. I'm up for a lazy day and some cuddles if you are."
Desdemona:
"How about you take me as your partner this time? Hm, sorry, Deacon."
"This mission is a little more dangerous than others. While I don't doubt your abilities, I recommend you take extra precautions... I just really look forward to your return."
"Another success? Well, I can't say I'm surprised. You are the best."
Sturges:
"Hey, I- uh, found this dress the other day and I was thinking about how purty you'd look in it."
"I was thinkin' of making something special just for you, because, well, I think you're special. (Heh)"
"Anythin' you can think of, let me know, and I'll try my best to make it or recreate it just for you, doll.”
X6-88:
"You look very flattering today, ma'am/sir."
"While I recommend you should stay in your armor, you do look very nice in your regular clothes."
"You have nice eyes, ma'am/sir."
Gage:
"Has anyone ever told ya, you kinda resemble Nuka-Girl? Or maybe I'm jus' imaginin' you in that suit and getting a little excited. (Heh)"
"Pre-war couples used to kiss at the top'a the ferris wheel from what I heard. Kind of stupid if you ask me... but if you were willing, then I can't say I'd be one to argue with ya, boss."
"Watchin' you fight, all badass-lookin' an' all, has got me feeling some type'a way. I'm not hatin' that either."
Mason:
"Let me know if there's anyway I can please you, boss. Anyway at all... (Heh)"
"I know a few ways I can make you howl."
"There's this fantasy I have between you and I... let me know if you'd ever be willing to act on it with me.”
Mags Black:
"People can be stupid enough to ignore your greatness and I pity them for that."
"If you don't invite up to the Grille soon, I might just have to call a secret meeting between you and I down here at the Parlor, if you get what I mean."
"Have you considered making love at the top of the ferris wheel? I can't deny the thought has been playing on my mind a lot recently..."

I’m not sure if you’ve done this, I JUST found your blog and I’m obsessed so if you already have done it, sorry! But, how do you think companions would react to a sole that’s very very insecure about the way she looks, acne, maybe a little chubby. I’m asking BECAUSE I’m this way, I’ve always been very insecure and I’ve always wondered how they would react to it.
((Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy this, I also hope that you know that you’re gorgeous no matter what . You shouldn’t let anyone, including yourself, make you feel any different. ❤️))
Cait:
“Hey, quit being so hard on yerself. Ya look fine to me.”
She probably wouldn’t be the very best at comforting another..but she definitely knows what it’s like to be insecure about apparence. She sometimes looks in the mirror and despises what she sees, so she’d do her best to make you feel better despite her lack of emotional knowledge.
Curie:
“Monsieur/Madame, you mustn’t be so unkind to yourself. You are a wonderful person, inside and out.”
She wouldn’t quite understand why you wouldn’t take more pride in yourself. From the moment you released her from the vault, she held you in highest regard..why couldn’t you do the same for yourself? Regardless, if acne was one of your insecurities- she may be able to concoct some form of medicine to help clear it up.
Danse:
“Chin up, soldier. I’m usually not good at this..but, I want you to know that you are much more than what’s on the outside. To myself, and many others, you have been nothing short of an inspiration- don’t sell yourself short because of your appearance.”
Though he claims otherwise, and some people would scoff, he too is insecure about his appearance. Particularly so about his scar on his eye and all over his body. With that being said, he would intentionally go out of his way- even if he isn’t the very best at it- to remind you that you are more than what meets the eye. He admires you.
Deacon:
“(Y/n), chill. You look fine, as always.”
He isn’t the very best with words either, often times concealing his emotional inadequacy with wit and sly humor. However he knew damn well that humor in this case would be inappropriate. So, despite his nature, he’d look you in the eyes -assuring you of his uncharacteristic honesty- and let you know that he thinks highly of you.
Gage:
“Boss, no offense but..are you fucking kidding?”
You cannot convince me otherwise, Gage finds a little chub super attractive. So that coupled with your facial scars (which he also finds hot), I believe it’s fair to say this raider is rather infatuated with your looks. Seeing you being insecure about your appearance honestly just confuses him..but he’ll take it as opportunity to do a little harmless flirting. Nothing too disrespectful, but stil...
Hancock:
“Heh, you know I totally get where you’re coming from. If it’s any consolation, you’re definitely the pretty one of the group.”
Well..he, uh, doesn’t like the way he looks either . Being a ghoul comes with a lot of stigma, especially from “smooth-skins”. So Hancock often finds himself shying away from mirrors despite his faux confident aura. That being said, he’s likely one of the most sensitive and empathetic of the entire bunch.
Macready:
“Sheesh, you aren’t ugly- and trust me, I’ve seen ugly.”
Again, comforting isn’t exactly in his wheelhouse...but he gets it. Truthfully it kind of saddens him whenever he catches you glancing in the mirror with an anxious grimace, however he won’t let on to those “touchy-feely” feelings and will instead try his best to distract you from yourself or at least get you to dismiss those thoughts.
Maxson:
“Who made you feel this way?”
Surprisingly enough, if you happen to catch him when he’s not busy, Arthur can prove to be quite the good listener. Plus depending upon your rank and familiarity, he considers you to be a close friend of his- so he’ll poor you a glass of bourbon and let you tell him all about your less than nice feelings and explain what makes so insecure.
Nick:
“Well kiddo, take it from someone who looks like they were ran through a garbage disposal..you look fine. I get that hearing that won’t change your view, but..it’s the truth.”
He’ll simply cast a soft look your way whenever he realizes your insecurities, sighing softly as he clasps a cold metal hand on your shoulder and does his best to comfort you.
Old Longfellow:
“Cap, just you wait until ya become an old fucker like me. Stuff like that don’t mean nothing....heh, I guess youre technically older than me though...”
He tries to make you feel better, he really does..but it comes out in his own special way that probably will just end up making your roll your eyes.
Piper:
“Oh blue, youre not ugly..please don’t think that. If anything, youre pretty cute!”
Shed probably be a hot mess trying to make you feel better, even making herself facepalm a couple of times in response to some of the crazy things she ended up spewing. Her point hopefully, is still made..even if she made a fool of herself in doing so.
Preston:
“General, please don’t think so low of yourself. You’re a damn good person.”
He’d offer you a kind, warm smile as he approached you while you solemnly ridiculed your own reflection. After gentle coaxing you to stop being so harsh to your own being, he’d be sure to reaffirm and convey just how highly he thought of you.
X6-88:
“I..I don’t understand. You’re so much beyond your reflection. Your appearance is insignificant in comparison to your accomplishments and capabilities..stop thinking otherwise. If anyone were to say any different, remind them of what you are.”
He would be shocked, to say the very least. In his eyes you were close to perfection, even if he doesn’t generally express that notion.

Sole feeling intensely jealous about someone else flirting with their companions while they were out relaxing one evening (sole has hardcore feelings for them) and the companion flirting back with that other person. Sole downs their drink super fast, then gets up and leaves without saying a word. What happens next? (Please include all companions as if they're romanceable, +Gage and Maxson if you have the time)
It’s under the cut, because It’s super long with a lot of companions, sorry about that. Just kidding, I’m not sorry at all. Enjoyyyyy
Sole tried desperately to swallow the lump in their throat as they watched them, laughing, talking, the gentle touches as they relentlessly flirted with each other in front of their face. Sole looked down at their glass, swirling the drink as they tried to focus on anything but the jealous feeling in the pit of their stomach. And as much as they tried to push the emotions down, or drink them away, it wasn’t working. They couldn’t take it any longer.
Cait: Caitremoved her hand from the other person’s arm as her eyes followed behind Soleas they stormed out of the bar. She quickly downed her drink before leaving, not even bothering to explain to the other person, hell. She was harmlesslyflirting with them, they didn’t mean anything to her, so why should she have toexplain herself anyway. She pushed the door open, finding Sole in the dimly litstreet.
“Would ye slow down Sole?” She called out, quickly pickingup her pace as she jogged after them. She grabbed their arm as she stopped themfrom moving onwards. “Did some fucker upset ye in the bar? Who was it? I’ll fuck‘em up!” she shouted.
“Its stupid,” Sole said shaking their head as their eyes fellto the ground.
“What are ye talkin’ about?” Cait asked, furrowing herbrows. “Who upset ya?” The sudden realisation hit Cait in the face. “Oh.” A smilegrew on her lips. “Ye were jealous, weren’t ya?” she teased poking Sole’s shoulderwith her fingernail. Sole huffed. “Why didn’t ya say somethin’? If I knew yefelt that way I’d ‘ave been flirtin’ with ye the whole time.” Sole bit theirlip, did she really feel that way or was she pulling their leg?
“Really?” Sole asked, their eyes meeting Cait’s. She smiled again.
“Obviously. Flirtin’ with you over these borin’ settlers. Whode ye think I’d choose?” She sighed, “I just didn’t think ye liked me that waySole. Give a gal a heads up next time you want a heart to heart, I’m not nearlydrunk enough to spill ma guts to ya.” She played it off, hiding her true self, like she usually did. “Now whaddya say we head inside and get another drink?Really get to know each other?” She winked with a smile, causing a small smileto appear on Sole’s lips.
“Okay.”
Curie: Curie hadbeen unintentionally flirting back with the person beside her, complimenting themon the fantastic work they’d been doing around the settlement that she’d beenvisiting with Sole. She almost jumped out of her seat when she heard Sole slamtheir glass on the table, a little too loudly. She excused herself from the conversationand got up to follow Sole out of the bar, and into the street.
“Madam/ Monsieur, are you alright?” She asked, slowlywalking towards Sole. Sole started pacing which only made Curie worry about themmore. What was going on?
“I’m overreacting, I know that,” Sole said, mainly tothemselves. “Just seeing you with that person, flirting. Man, it is driving mecrazy.” Curie remained silent. “I want you to just see me and be with me.” Solestopped and turned to face Curie, who was standing with her eyes-wide in frontof them. She didn’t quite know what to do.
“Why-” She paused, “Why didn’t you tell me before?” Curielet out a light laugh, “I thought I was the only one with these feelings.”
“But- The person in the bar? You were flirting with them…”
“What? Oh no. I wasn’t, I only complimented them.”
“But you were giving them the signs… and I feel incrediblyfoolish right now.” Sole shook their head and Curie grabbed their hand.
“Now that things are out in the open maybe you could take meout to dinner?” Curie said suggestively, causing Sole to laugh. Sole nodded.
“How about I do you one better and make you dinner?Tomorrow, at my place…”
Danse: It hadbeen a while since Paladin Danse let himself indulge in a bit of harmlessflirting with a random stranger. He’d always been so busy with the Brotherhoodand the time-consuming missions and goals. He leaned further into the personbeside him, waving at the bartender to serve them another round of drinks, onhim. Sole scoffed pushing back off their chair, making sure to make some noise asthe legs scraped against the floor. Danse looked up over his shoulder, justenough to make eye contact with Sole for a second before they left the bar, closing, well, slamming, the door behind them.
For the brief second, he met their eyes he knew thatsomething was wrong with them, so he put his bottle of beer on the bar and climbedout of his seat. He patted the persons shoulder, reassuring them he’d be rightback.
“What’s wrong with you?” Danse asked as he walked up to Sole, who was leaning back against the wall, huffing to themselves.
“I need another drink,” Sole said with a scoff as they triedto push past Danse, but he stopped them with his arm.
“I don’t think you do,” he said sternly, and Sole looked upat him.
“Why don’t you,” Sole paused as they poked his chest, “goback to the bar, where you’ll find the fit blonde.” A loud chuckle escaped Danse’smouth.
“Is that what this is about? We found out I’m a synth andnow I’m not allowed any fun?” he looked hurt.
“I didn’t say that.” Sole sighed. “Seeing you flirt right infront of my face.” Sole looked down. “It hurts, okay?” Sole’s eyes fell to theground.
“What?” Danse furrowed his thick eyebrows, “I don’t understand. Are you saying you’re in love with me?” Sole noticed the look of shock on hisface and all of a sudden, they felt nervous. More nervous than they werebefore. “I don’t know what to say.”
“Yes.” Sole drew their lip in between their teeth. Danselooked from the door and back to Sole. “Don’t go back in there.” Sole closedtheir eyes for a second. “Come home with me.”
Deacon: It wasn’toften that Deacon allowed himself to get involved with anyone, especially notwhilst out on a mission, but he was in disguise, so where was the harm in that?Additionally, he was ninety percent sure that this was the person who washolding the information he needed. So, he used his charm to get them to openup, hoping they would spill the secret he desperately hoped they were concealing.Sole however had no idea of Deacon’s plan.
They could feel jealousy bubbling in their veins as theywatched Deacon leaning into the person, his lips a little too close to theirsfor Sole’s liking. They tried to take a deep breath, but nothing was helping. So, they downed their whisky, grimacing at the liquid before getting up andleaving. Deacon wouldn’t have noticed if Sole hadn’t of shut the door with suchforce the room shook a little.
“I’ll be right back,” Deacon said, trying to be seductive ashe let his hand linger on the person’s leg. Deacon quickly walked towards thedoor and sliding out into the cold air. He tilted his head as he looked atSole, trying to figure out for himself what was wrong with them.
“Who do I need to kill?” Deacon joked as he met their eyes, only for Sole to look away.
“How about the loser at the bar?” Sole muttered, makingDeacon raise an eyebrow.
“I think your skin is turning green there Sole,” Deaconsaid, booping Sole on the nose. He folded his arms as he leaned on the wallnext to them. “Its for the job, nothing more. But seeing you like this, kind ofmakes me think you have a crush on me,” he joked again, knowing that couldn’t bethe case, could it? Sole looked down at the ground, rubbing their upper armwith the palm of their hand. “Sole?”
“So what if I do,” Sole muttered again, hoping he hadn’theard, but kind of wishing he did. Their feelings were mixed.
“I wouldn’t be complaining.” Deacon looked over at Sole withthe corner of his eye, hiding his smile as Sole’s ears perked up. Did they hearthat right? Sole looked up at him.
“Are you saying what I think you’re saying?” Sole asked andDeacon looked away.
“Maybe…”
Gage: Gage didn’tflirt a lot but when he did, he was really touchy about it. Showing the personaffection and using sexual innuendos to get what he wanted, consensually of course.Gage got up immediately and followed Sole out, quick on their trail. He pickedup his speed, stopping Sole by grabbing their arm and making them face him.
“Boss?” he noticed the look on his face, turning his worryinto anger. “Who’s legs am I breaking?” he asked. He pulled the eyepatch fromhis face and let it hang around his neck as he looked into Sole’s eyes. Sole’sheart pounded in their chest as they studied his concerned Hazel Green eyes. “I’llkill them for you.”
“That really isn’t necessary,” Sole replied, looking awayfor a second. They tried to gain enough courage to take what they wanted. Solefound their hands resting on Gage’s chest as he leaned into them, trying touncover the story behind Sole’s storm out. They quickly pushed up into him, wrappingtheir arms around his neck as they pulled him into a hot kiss, their fingersplaying with the hairs on the nape of his neck. Gage’s hands slipped down toSole’s waist, pulling their body into him as he deepened the heated kissbetween them. Sole pulled away, taking a few steps back.
“I’m sensing you were jealous,” Gage guessed, chucklinglightly. The kiss had taken his breath away, seeing as he never thought he’d bemaking out with the terrifying but seriously hot, Overboss. The person he’dbeen developing feelings for. He squinted his eyes as Sole nodded nervously. “Youshould’ve told me Boss. I thought I apart of an unrequited love scenario.” He shookhis head. He just used the word love. Fuck.
Hancock: Hancockpeeked over his shoulder, looking at Sole, who was looking at the liquid intheir glass. He caught their eye for a second before he turned back to thelucky person beside him, running his hand up their arm and curling his fingersin their hair. You’d think Sole would be used to his flirty behaviour by now,on them. But watching him flirt with someone else, made Sole feel like shit, angry and jealous. Sole put their glass on the table before picking their jacketoff the back of the chair and stomping up the stairs. Hancock smiled as hewatched Sole leave, quickly getting up and following them. It was about damntime they showed their true feelings.
“Who pissed in your cereal this morning?” Hancock called outbehind Sole. They stopped, spinning on their foot as they turned to face him.
“What?”
“Look Sunshine, I know.” He crossed his arms, his black eyesgleaming as a smile played on his lips. He stepped closer to Sole, his fingersfinding their hips and digging in slightly. “I know you want me.” Sole raisedtheir eyebrows.
“Is that so?” Sole tilted their head as they studied Hancock’sexpression. Cocky bastard. “How can you be so sure of that?” Sole’s breathinghitched in their throat as Hancock leaned into their ear, his breath sendingshivers down their spine.
“Or I could be wrong.” He pulled away, putting his hands inthe air. He backed up slightly, teasingly. But Sole had other plans. Theypulled him back in, their fingers tugging onto the ruffles of his shirt. Hechuckled into Sole’s mouth as their lips met his. His fingers found Sole’s hipsagain, tugging them into his body as he ran his tongue along their bottom lip.Sole pulled away breathless, taking a few steps back. “So, I was right.”
“Shut up,” Sole laughed as Hancock dragged them back intohis embrace. Finally.
MacCready: He didn’tflirt often and when he did he wasn’t the best at it but the person beside him didn’tseem to mind. In fact, they were quite into it. Sole scoffed at the two ofthem, mocking the other person behind their back as they rested their scrawnyhand on RJ’s leg. Sole’s eyes were fixed on them, unable to tear them away. Thatwas until MacCready sloppily leaned into the other person’s ear, probablysaying some unspeakable things to them. Sole quietly got up, tucking theirchair under the table as the made their way out of the bar. MacCready noticedSole out of the corner of his eye, trailing after them.
“Sole?” He called out from his chair, but they ignored himand closed the door behind them. He got up, leaving his partner behind as herushed out to see if Sole was okay, seeing as they did travel to the bartogether. Why would they get up and leave without him? Didn’t they want to travelwith him anymore? “Sole?” He called out again into the night, his eyes findingSole’s form in the dark. He ran up behind them, stopping them as he moved infront of their path. “What’s going on?”
“I needed some air,” Sole whispered, afraid their voicewould reveal their true feelings. RJ put his hand on Sole’s arm, before he realisedwhat he was doing. Being comforting? That wasn’t like him, but with Sole he didthings he never thought he would.
“Are you okay?” Sole looked up at him through their lashes, melting as they looked into his ocean blue eyes.
“Damn you,” Sole muttered, “and your perfect pretty eyes,”Sole trailed off turning around, staring up at the sky, “and everything aboutyou.” They ran their fingers through their hair.
“What?” he moved so he was in front of Sole again. “What areyou saying?”
“What does it matter now? You should head back inside, wouldn’twant to keep your lovely lady/lad waiting,” Sole said, jealousy dripping fromtheir voice. MacCready shook his head.
“Is there something here for me?” he asked, and Sole lookedback up at him. “If I leave, will I be making a big mistake?” A smile appearedon his lips. “I’m not willing to take that risk.”
Maxson: Maxson’sflirting was strictly that. Nothing more, it never would lead to anything more,he didn’t and wouldn’t let it lead to anything more, but Sole didn’t know that. They didn’t know that they would be feeling insanely jealous as the Elderloudly flirted with the person next to him, whilst a little intoxicated. Soletried to push the feelings away, talk to some of the other Knights, forgetabout it but they couldn’t. They could only picture him and his perfect chiselledbody, hiding under that massive coat. Sole got up with a sigh, heading offtowards their room on the Prydwen.
Maxson moved away from the bar, turning to where Sole hadbeen sitting. He looked around as he noticed they’d left the room. He turned tothe Knight next to him.
“Did you see where the Sentinel went?” he asked, and the Knightpointed towards the direction of Sole’s room. He nodded before he put his drinkdown on the bar and walked off towards Sole’s room. He knocked on the door, letting himself in. “Sentinel?” he said, turning around to find Sole sat ontheir bed, looking down at their hands.
“Yeah?” they looked up at him. “What can I do for you?”
“You left the party? Held in your honour.” Sole got up, standingin front of him.
“I didn’t feel like partying.” Sole paused, “I didn’t feellike sitting there and watching you, flirt with person after person, whilst I satthere and watched.” They looked down at the ground, missing the massive smile thatstretched across Maxson’s face.
“Why don’t you do something about it?” He moved closer toSole, backing them up so their back was pressed firmly against the wall. “Takewhat you want.” Sole met his lustful gaze. “Or better yet, I’ll take what I want.”
Nick: Nick down atthe bar, next to the person who was involved in the case he was working on. Heordered himself a drink, noticing that they were drunk off their face, making itso much easier for him to pry the information from them.
“You have such pretty eyes,” The person slurred as theyleaned into Nick, the smell of strong alcohol on their breath. Nick grimacedbefore shaking his head with a cough. Nick swivelled his body, so he was facingthem, leaning one of his arms on the bar. Sole walked in at that moment, sitting beside Nick and ordering themselves a drink.
“Charming, where have you been all my life?” Nick asked witha chuckle, causing the other person to erupt into a fit of drunken laughter.Sole looked over at them, feeling a twinge in the pit of their stomach. Theyshook it off, trying to keep themselves together, trying to hide the fact thatthey were madly in love with Nick. “I would love to get to know you better.” Sole swallowed the lump intheir throat, along with the rest of their drink, pouring it back. Sole slammedtheir glass on the table, nearly making Nick fall off his chair as he jumped insurprise. Sole got up, nearly knocking their barstool onto the ground as theyleft, not wanting to look back at Nick. They didn’t want to look or hear himflirting or fawning over anyone… that wasn’t them. “Save my seat,” Nick saidbefore getting up, fully intending to come back and get that all-importantinformation.
“You don’t have to follow me out,” Sole said, turning around.“I don’t want you to miss out on the amazing opportunity to get to know thatperson better.” Sole let the sarcasm take over. Nick chuckled, sensing it immediately.
“The person I’d really like to get to know is standing rightin front of me,” he muttered and Sole met his glowing yellow eyes. Did he really mean that? “They are a part of a case I’m working on. Nothing more.” Sole nodded.
“Right. Wow, I feel like an asshole right now,” Sole laughedlightly. “You better get back in there then, for the case and all.” Nicknodded.
“I won’t be long and afterwards… I’m buying you dinner.”
Piper: She wasn’tflirting, she was pretending, to entertain the thoughts of the person besideher and to try and get them to spill some gossip for her next article. Shethought by now people would know this about her at least. Sole was consumed withjealousy and bitterness as they watched Piper put her hand on the person’sknee, slowly rubbing their leg. Sole snapped their eyes away, trying to focuson the drink in their hands but it wasn’t helping in any way. So, they tippedit back, wiping their mouth with the back of their hand before getting up andleaving the room.
“I’ll be back in a moment,” Piper said, standing up and runningher hand down the stranger’s arm. “Not,” she whispered under her breath. She ranup behind Sole, matching their pace as she walked by their side. “You okay Blue?”She asked, looking at Sole. Sole sighed looking down.
“Just dandy,” Sole muttered, looking anywhere but at Piper. Shestopped moving, grabbing Sole’s arm.
“What’s wrong with you?” she crossed her arms. “Did I dosomething?” Sole sighed before finally turning to her.
“No, you didn’t,” Sole said shaking their head. “I’m the onewho can’t build up the courage to ask a pretty girl out to dinner.” Piper bither lip. “Not just a pretty girl. A perfect one at that, who’s intelligent andstrong minded, beautiful… you.” Piper tried not to smile like an idiot, but shecouldn’t help it. “But you deserve someone like that goon in the bar. Not me.”
“No way. That one is cheating on his significant other. Theyasked me to spy on him and prove it.” She smiled again, “If anyone has my fullattention around here, it is you dummy.”
Preston: Most ofthe time, you could confuse Preston’s kindness for flirting. In his eyes he wassimply offering to buy the settler a drink after all their hard work, it wasthem who started talking suggestively at him. He sipped a bit of his drink, keeping a little distance between himself and the settler beside him. Solecould swear they saw Preston touch the settler’s shoulder, adding to thejealousy clinging to their already aching stomach. Sole sighed, pining afterPreston as he laughed at something the settler said. They tipped back theirdrink with a frown before getting the hell out of the room. They couldn’t stayin there any longer.
To make things worse, Preston didn’t leave the bar straightaway, in fact, he hadn’t even seen Sole leave the room. He left the bar, rubbing his cold hands together when he noticed Sole leaning on the walloutside.
“Jeez, are you cold?” He asked Sole, pulling off his jacketand wrapping it around their shoulders. Sole breathed a ‘thank you’ their cold breathswirling in the midnight air. “What are you doing out here?” he ran his handdown Sole’s shoulder.
“I couldn’t sit inside. Are you waiting for your friend tocome out?” Sole nodded their head towards the door.
“What friend?”
“The man/woman at the bar?” Sole’s forehead creased, “youwere flirting with them for like twenty minutes.” Preston shook his head.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I only bought thema drink.” He smiled reassuringly at Sole. “Something else on your mind?” Soleshook their head for a moment before stopping and looking up at him.
“Actually yes,” Sole admitted. “Seeing you with them, mademe so mad. No, not mad, jealous.” Sole looked up at Preston, trying to read theexpression plastered across his face. “I don’t want to feel that way, like I’mwatching someone I’ll never have.”
“You do have me,” he mumbled. “Since we met. I didn’t knowyou felt the same way…”
X6-88: Locate and recruit the scientist. Make themtrust you. No matter what it takes… Those were father’s exact words toX6-88 and although this wasn’t the ideal way to recruit them to the team, itwas the most fun. X6 nodded as he ordered himself a drink, keeping eye contact withthe scientist sitting next to him.
“We could really use someone with your exact skills. You’re brilliantat what you do, and I for one appreciate your talent,” X6 said confidently witha smile. Sole watched him from a couple of feet away. Why didn’t he ever flirtor even talk to them like that? Sole grasped the glass in their hand firmly asthe jealousy emerged to the surface, apparent for everyone to see. Sole tippedthe glass back, hoping it would somehow numb the aching feeling in their chestthat was begging for them to tell X6 how they truly felt. They’d never seen himlaugh like that, he looked happy. He definitely didn’t laugh like that when hewas around Sole. Sole walked up to the bar, slamming the glass on the tablebefore turning around and storming out.
X6 eyes nonchalantly followed Sole out the door. He turnedback to the scientist.
“We’d love to have you on board, you could really push usinto a new direction with your work.” The scientist nodded with a smile. Maybe theInstitute wasn’t as scary as they once thought. X6 got up and straightened outhis jacket before walking outside to find Sole.
“Ma’am/ sir?” he said stepping in front of them. “Didsomething happen? You look upset.” There he was, going back to that samemonotonous sound of voice he had before, no smile or laugh. Sometimes Sole wasleft wondering if he even liked being around them. They sighed.
“Do you like me? Because I’m standing here wondering ifthere is anything between us,” Sole paused, running their fingers through theirhair. “Is this one sided? Am I the only one reading between the lines? Because younever smile at me like that and I really want you to!” Sole let out a deepbreath they hadn’t realised they’d been holding in, all the pent-up frustrationcoming out with it. Sole looked up to see a slack-jawed, wide-eyes X6 staringdown at them, making them frown in the process. “A bit much?”
“No. It’s like you just read my mind.”

(masterpost) Male Companions react to realizing they’re not as straight as they thought thanks to Sole
Tumblr media
All male companions’ reactions below the Read more! No nsfw, just put it under a read more because these reactions got LONG. So I did it not to clog up people’s dashes, essentially. They can also be found per 2, in a seperate post which you can get to by clicking the name after ‘includes:’. Includes: Codsworth, Danse, Deacon, Nick, Hancock, MacCready, Maxson, Gage, Preston garvey, Sturges and X6.
Synth!Codsworth:  (this one got long, oops)
As soon as he realised he was attracted to anyone at all, he figured this came with the body. Nothing to worry about, at all. Except… why did it have to be Sole who suddenly had gone from his master to look after to someone who distracted him from medial tasks? This could hardly be considered a desirable outcome. Was it innapropriate? Surely, it had to be. For a fraction of a second he decided to ignore it but then he got distracted again by Sole’s arms, and that smile, and he decided to strike up a conversation, perhaps gain some information on what to do about this. “Sir, could I… pehaps have a word with you?” “Sure, Codsworth, what’s up?” Codsworth smiled, caught off guard for a moment. He noticed his body temperature seemed to go up, especially in his cheeks. Peculiar. “ May I bother you with some questions about… some new feelings I am experiencing?” Sole raised an eyebrow. “Such as?” Codsworth had originally presumed a small system malfunction when it would take him this long to word a sentence coherently as a robot. “ Feelings such as eh… distraction and eh… Romantic… feelings?” Sole grinned. “ Look at that, in love, huh?” “ What can I… do to resolve such feelings? To stop it?” Sole shrugged. “In my experience you can’t do much about it.  You hope it goes away or you speak to the person you’re interested in. Have you tried that yet?” “ Y… yes? Not really but I’m eh…” he scraped his throat. “ Any word on who the lucky person is? Is it Curie? I figured perhaps with the background as synths…” Codsworth only just noticed that yes, it was statistically more likely he would be interested in someone who he could procreate with. Did this decrease his chances with Sole? “ Eh… Curie is a lovely girl but I merely consider her a very good friend, sir. My interests are in someone altogether different. Say, a man.” “ Lucky man.” Sole smiled. That’s when Codsworth decided to just go for it. “You are aware I value your opinion highly, Sir, could I ehm hypothetically get your… interest?” Sole’s eyes widened. “ Codsworth, are you saying that…?” And that was when he chickened out. If human bodies could have such a thing as an alert to retreat, he surely would have it going off this instant. “ Oh, no it’s just a nice, intimate chat between friends. I’m glad you got it off your chest Sole.” Sole had a massive grin on his face, looking at Codsworth , rushing away as fast as he could. “TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION, YOU HYPOTHETICALLY COULD!”
Tumblr media
Danse:
Danse had never really had all that much time for romantic feelings, in a lot of ways joining the Brotherhood meant marrying it. He was dedicated to his goals there, to protecting those under his command.  Falling in love would be an unwelcome and even dangerous distraction from his duties. But his bond with Sole had been growing, and the more time they spent together, the less he could see him as another ‘brother’. He was starting to notice… things. That he sometimes zoned out and thought of him when he wasn’t around, that he caught himself involuntarily looking at Sole’s lips when he was speaking, that he even had some less than platonic dreams. It had happened without him even really being aware of it and now… now he wasn’t sure what to do with it. He couldn’t deny that he had a different kind of feelings for him than just friendship. And that was a first for a man. He had been infatuated with a girl before, but this seemed more serious. Less of a crush, more of… he shook off the thought. This was alltogether new. He had no clue on how to deal with this, no previous experience to speak of. He decided to keep it quiet for the time being; Sole had more important responsibilities. It would be selfish to take him away from those. He bottled it up for a long time, until the point he lost everything he once believed in, and Sole was still there. Still telling him he was worthy of his place in this world, still maintaining an unwavering trust in him. Danse felt like it was too late, that he  no longer had anything to offer him but a shadow of a man. Yet the moment he realised that he couldn’t just ignore his feelings was the moment Sole stood up to Maxson for him. He never saw anyone do such a thing before… show such strength and bravery… let alone do it for him. Every supressed thought came cascading onto him again. Still… he didn’t want to act on it. He didn’t feel like he deserved Sole, considering what he was, how little he had left to offer. Not until Sole managed to get himself literally blown away from the enemy. He rushed to his side relieved to see he was okay. “ If I lost you, I don’t know what I’d do.” “Damn Danse, the way you’re saying that sounds like more than just friendship.” ” I… perhaps we need to talk.” Sole just looked at him, prompting him to carry on. ‘Look, all I’m saying is that if you’re… interested…. so am I.” “ Are you saying you’re…in love with me? “ Danse sighed. “ I am, I’ve never felt closer to anyone before but I don’t even know what the hell this means. Nor how this… works. I mean I have an idea but.. “ Danse got flustered at the idea. “I’d be honoured to be the man by your side. “
Tumblr media
Deacon: Deacon hadn’t minded following Sole around before, and his glowing recommendation to the railroad might have… reflected that a little. Laying on a bit thick how impressive he was, but did that matter when he lived up to those impossible expectations? If anything, it made him even better than advertised. The more he learned about Sole, the more he liked what he saw. A wit to rival his own, but with a kidness hidden underneath it. Whenever Sole’d return to the railroad he’d drop everything to hang around at the headquarters,   inconspicuously of course. Yes, hoping Sole’d want him to tag along, and yes even more so because he like the rush he felt when he saw him. He knew damn well that that didn’t exactly indicate that he felt no more than a sense of friendship towards Sole, but didn’t give a damn. Sure, he never before had felt like this about a man but if there was one thing he’d learned it was that life was too short to drop a good thing when it was right in front of you. Besides, with all of the roles he’d played, it was refreshing to discover another aspect of who he really was. And this… this was real. Finally, something undeniably real. He didn’t know how much he craved it until he felt it. Deacon threaded carefully, testing the waters, trying to figure out if Sole would even be remotely interested. He had a contingency plan; he could always claim he was practicing for an undercover mission or something. It didn’t take long before Sole called Deacon out on his different behaviour. “ Say, Deacon, are you… flirting with me?” Deacon laughed, as it turned out it was a little more difficult to lie once you were a little bit too personally involved. They had gotten too close, damnit. He looked Sole in the eyes and after a flicker of doubt whether he should lie just said “You noticed, I’ll take it?” “ Hard not to. I mean, I have no problem with this at all, You may have noticed I am all for checking out both women and men I come accross…” “ Yeaaah… you’re super good at keeping that under wraps, boss.” Sole shot him a side-glance “ But… I thought you were into women? I mean, you never seemed interested in men and it never came up in conversation so I assumed… I mean with… your wife and all that?” “ This is as much of a surprise to me as it is to you. But what can I say? You are just so pretty! The way you sway your hips, for one. ” Deacon mimicked an overly swaying walk, only to receive a shove from Sole. “ I’m serious, Deacon. What’s going on, is this a con or?” Deacon kept looking into Sole’s eyes for a moment until the smile faded and he was looking down. Damnit, this is why he preferred lying. Less chance of getting hurt when they saw a persona instead of you. “ In all honesty,…” “ Alert the media, Deacon’s going to say something honest! Where’s Piper when ya need her?” “ Yeah, I had that coming. But eh… you are handsome.” “ Ruggedly, I know.” Sole brushed through his hair dramatically while rolling his eyes. Deacon was distracted by his hands for a moment so he closed his eyes for the last bit. “ Aaaand I dunno what happened but as it turns out I’m not as straight as I thought and I may potentially perhaps have a crush on you.  “ That last sentence came racing out. Sole couldn’t remember a moment when Deacon seemed this uncontrolled when speaking. Which brought up a certain concern… “ How do I know this isn’t just  some sort of prank? If so, low blow.” Deacon took off his sunglasses and winked with a grin still set on his face. “ Woah Sole, low blow? Let’s take it one step at a time huh? “ Sole buried his face in his hands. When he looked up again, Deacon was still looking at him. “ Like… I dunno… see how a kiss feels?” “ You’re serious about this?” “ Yeah. Have been for a while, actually. Shocker, huh? ”
Tumblr media
Nick: It didn’t take long for Nick to be impressed with Sole; the way he seemed to manoeuver through the commonwealth was… had to be a mix between a natural ability to adapt, one hell of a lot of will power and heaps of luck. Travelling with him, the proof that there was hope left yet to obtain some kind of justice and morality in the Commonwealth, brought new colour to his world. A kind of colour he hadn’t really noticed since… well since Jennifer had been in his life, or at least in that of the the Nick before him. Admiration turned to friendship, but now… he noticed that he started to feel something of which he had from time to time wondered of if he’d ever be able to experience it first-hand as a synth. Whether he liked it or not, he felt drawn to Sole, to their energy and to their strength. He tried to ban it from his mind. What would a man who was slowly working up his way to becoming the hero of the world as he knew it want with a heap of scrap metal? But every time he chose to travel alone or with someone else he’d worry and miss him just a little bit too much for it to just be friendship anymore, somehow seeing Sole happy had become what made him happy. He tried to ban it from his mind, but grew distracted from his cases and asked Piper one too many times whether she had heard anything of Sole’s return. It wasn’t really until she mentioned “ Okay, clearly someone’s smitten. Might wanna try to make that bright neon sign stand for something more than just your name. Tell him.”  Before he could protest she walked out with a “ Consider it free advice, ya never know!’ If it was that obvious to her, it’d stand out to him too, sooner or later. When Sole returned to him, a little battered, a little bruised, but still going on with hope in their eyes he just smiled. “Piper said you’d want to see me.” Of course she did. “So what’s up? Just wanted to see if I was still in one piece or did ya miss me?” “Maybe… you oughta sit down for a moment.” Sole arched his eyebrows. “Okay… that sounds serious.” “ All right, I’m gonna try not to make this too uncomfortable and you need to know I just want to hear an answer from you so I can move on from.. this. I… ” How the hell do you come forward with something like this, he stopped talking, tried to think of how to word it. Damnit, he had a couple of times in his head but it all seemed to fall flat now. “ Should I come back, do you need to  run some diagnostics   first or something?” Sole’s lips curved into a grin, a glinster in their eye and the usual pride after perfectly delivering one of their witty comebacks, turning Nick’s words against him. “Out with it, Nick. “ “ I have a powerful urge to kiss you right now.” “ Is that so?” Sole leaned forward.  “Then… what’s stopping you?
Tumblr media
Hancock: (this is ignoring the fact that he also gets men commenting on tours of the town then ;) He’s probably the character of which the whole bisexuality thing is the most ‘present’ in the story regardless of which gender Sole is.)  Hancock had noticed Sole, in a way which could hardly be considered platonic  from the get-go. You don’t just shiv a guy with that level of arrogance, no matter how much of a pest he was being, if you didn’t want to leave some kind of impression. Not that he didn’t have it comin’, ya can’t just go around threatning people in his town, but he did consciously make it a show. Hancock had noticed him entering the town, and immediately knew it was a matter of time before they’d either want to gauge the other’s eyes out or would end up inseperable... with some people ya just know. Hancock considered himself lucky it was the second, considering Sole seemed damn near as good as him at a show of dominance on a bad day. The man carried himself with a confidence that was just too damn good to look away from. There had been flirting, as he did with anyone, and hell, he’d be lying if he said he hadn’t seriously thought about it,.. but now he looked at Sole brutally taking down a serial killer without second thought Sole just managed to pique his interest  a little more. He felt something was shifting between them, the flirting got more serious and his own thoughts got a little more... impure with every turn. But it was more than that,Hancock was drawn to Sole’s need to do the right thing because it was a rarity. To make matters worse, there was this charisma which seemed to surround Sole like aura, affecting anyone around him.  If he hadn’t felt it before, Hancock knew now more than ever that sexuality is indeed a spectrum. But he knew he got it bad this time ‘round, the first time in forever he wouldn’t mind being tied down by a relationship. No good woman had ever been able to tame him... and watching Sole greased and bruised up he realised perhaps all he needed all along was that specific man. Sole turned around with another angry glance at the body at his feet as he hissed ‘Bastard’. When he turned around he noticed Hancock in the corner, staring at him intently. “What?” Hancock raised one eyebrow and grinned. Sole inhaled deeply before he started to rant, letting out some residue of anger in the process; “He had it coming, coulda saved some people if I had gotten to him sooner. I’ve seen you grab a dagger for worse reasons than...”   “ Hey, I get it, blood for blood. I’m just enjoying the view. “  “ Yeah, ‘bout that, what does that even fucking mean? " “ How ‘bout you tell me what you want it to mean?”
Tumblr media
MacCready: Maccready was slow to trust people, if there was anything he learned from the state the Commonwealth was in, from the state every single place he had ever seen, it was that people in the end only look after themselves. If you’re not connected to another by blood... betrayal would follow sooner or later, as soon as a good enough deal to be had was on the table. Actually, even family ties were severed for less than what he’d consider a good deal. Sole... proved different somehow. MacCready was eternally grateful for his help with Duncan’s medicine but something else started to seep through. He wasn’t just grateful for that, he also was because Sole gave him a sense of purpose again, something to fight for which wasn’t just switching off any thinking and doing what he was told. No matter what that was. His life had been about survival for so long... he had forgotten what it was like to really live it. Until Sole reminded him. He was far from oblivious to the fact that he started to develop some sort of feelings towards Sole but pushed them aside. He wouldn’t be able to love again like he did Lucy and Sole deserved better than that. Not to mention, Sole himself also lost his big love... and that wound was more fresh than his own. Even if one was ready how the hell could the other be? So he kept it under wraps, trying to come up with more reasons why it wouln’t work to keep him from getting too attached. Reminding himself that people leave. One; he couldn’t do it again. Love and maybe lose. No. Two; It was a bad idea to fall for the boss. Then again, he didn’t now what way, nor did he know to which extent he was even supposed to see Sole as his boss anymore. They’d been through hell and back together... surely they were at least friends by now... right? Three; damn he looked good in something else than that vault suit. Those arms alone... his jawline ... ah for f... friend’s sake. In this instance, his eyes lingered on Sole when he was trying to barter with someone on the price of ammo, bringing his charm to the table once more . At some point the shop keeper turned around to look for money and Sole looked behind him and winked at MacCready, as if to say ‘done deal’. As soon as he was done, Sole walked off to another store, probably to sell off some other junk still. The woman at the counter was looking dreamily at Sole, and MacCready gave up not trying to look in the same direction. The woman sighed; “Your friend is awfully persuasive isn’t he?”  “ Awfully...” And that, that was the moment he knew it was a lost cause to even try to fight it. He’d follow Sole to the ends of the earth, indebted to him or not.
Tumblr media
Maxson: When Maxson met Sole he was intruiged; never before had anyone been that upfront about their true opinion on anything he said. Being ‘the great Elder Maxson’ came with a heavy burden and a necessary authority. He could not allow anyone to publically question his commands. Therfore, it was a godsent that someone, who he could discard such attitude from based on him being an ‘outsider, would vent his true opinions about him and actually dare to speak up when he might be wrong. Someone who wouldn’t ignore to the warning looks of his brethren, or wouldn’t be put off but Maxson’s own  booming voice but rather grin and argue harder. It’s the main reason why he enjoyed Sole’s presence as much as he did. After a while he started to appreciate Sole’s presence for different reasons alltogether, not just because he appreciated his opinion but because he appreciated having him around. Having him nearby made him feel... stronger. If Sole backed him, he felt like he’d managed to ensure that what he thought was right, was definitely right. An extra insurance sort to speak. But things escalated. He talked too much to Sole, too much about his past and his fears of the future. Things which he never told anyone, shouldn’t even, if he were to remain seen as an absolute leader. And Sole, in turn, never seemed to use any of that information against him. At first Maxson figured he had found a friend to confide in. The ideal Sentinel. But he also knew that he was ignoring a strong feeling gnawing at him... friends don’t have their heart skip a beat when the other looked at him and smiled, they don’t notice the curve of the other’s lips, they don’t feel an urge to in the middle of an argument push the other against a nearby wall and make out, they don’t have to ignore their heart seemingly contracting a little when the other took a little bit longer than expected on a mission. Dating Sole would both be an issue and a non-issue because he’s the Elder of the Brotherhood of Steel. He was the Elder, anyone who had a problem with him dating his Sentinel would eventually simply have to deal with it. But he was also the Elder, a man expected to someday have an heir, which just wouldn’t be the case with another man as his lover. One night, Sole returned from a mission, cut across his face, bruises on his arms. Involuntarily he darted to Sole and touched the skin beside the scar, noticing Sole looked at hand and didn’t try to stop him. He dropped his hand. “You worry about everyone this much? Cause then you have a lot of people to go check up on, Maxson.” Maxson inhaled and exhaled deeply, closing his eyes. Time to put his heart on his sleeve. “Look, there’s something I need to tell you...”
Tumblr media
Gage: (warning: cursing) Gage never had been the type to dart around the point too much, no use for it. Raiders got shot at a bit too often to delay things to the next day. Getting down and dirty, getting confrontational was his speciality. No bottling up shit, or someone’d wind up dead. Actual feelings complicated things though. He had learned early on that first rule of ganging up meant that no one was looking out for you, and that feelings would just come back and bite you in the ass. Of course he had to go ahead and fuck it up by falling for the boss. But he ruled well, showed him respect and looked damn good while doing it. Gage kept it to himself for a long time; this was by no means a ‘want, take, have’ situation, it was more dangerous than intruding some settlement and taking what he felt he was due to the people’s lack of resistance. When subdueing a resistance among the raiders, Sole winked at him after a command (he had to realize to some extent it’d drive him mad), the sneer on his face when he realized he had won. He knew he was a lost cause, would sell out the entire goddamn world to be near this man. He’d do anything for him, even lay down his own life, things he’d never do for any other leader. Some raiders noticed, called him out for looking at the boss that way after another fight at their bar. “ Ya think you’re worth him? Huh? You’re a damn parasite Gage.”  Gage knocked a bottle over his head, knocking him unconscious. The others barely batted an eyelash as he spoke, calm and collected: “No, I don’t. Fella’s gotta try, though. Gotta do what he can.” That’s when he noticed Sole at the door, drink in hand, arching an eyebrow.
Tumblr media
Preston:
Preston hadn’t expected to find a worthy general for the Minutemen, not any more than he had expected to find another altruist in the exact right moment. They were a rare breed in this day and age... but nothing came as more of a surprise than how that same man also had worked his way into every fibre of his being. Sole had gotten inside of his head and it was getting frustrating. At first he was concerned it was because on some level he might be concerned that he had been a little bit too enthusiastic in giving him the position of general. Second-guessing himself, worrying that his subconscience had noticed something he wasn’t ready to see. That he had wanted Sole to be a good man and that he might not be. He admired Sole, from the get-go. This strong-willed man who was ready to put his life on the line for a ragtag bunch of strangers.  If something was wrong, and he knew it on some level, that would explain why Sole kept popping up in his thoughts. He only realised what might be the true reason when he noticed Sole flirting with someone at the bar. It caught him off-guard... do you get jealous when your closest ally and friend prefers the company of another? Perhaps. But not when he is just making small talk with winks and drinks. That kind of thing doesn’t threaten your friendship. It threatens... your chances with them in a more romantic way. Damn.   The winks, the subtle touches, the midnight conversations... he started to reanalyse how he felt during them. He couldn’t remember ever having developed such feelings for a man. He certainly had always been able to tell when a man was attractive and there were some men he perhaps wouldn’t have said no to but... Oh. Oh. Regardless, Something had grown, and it now had a tight grip on his heart. He kept it to himself until they headed out again. He figured rejection would be less painful if there were fewer people around to ask him what was wrong. They had camped up, in the middle of nowhere, campfire light flickering as they were sitting around it.  “ Do you have a minute?” “ Sure.”  “ Look, I’m just going to go ahead and say it: I have feelings for you. “ “ What kind of feelings? “ “ Romantic feelings.”  Sole smiled and Preston felt his courage slipping away from him. He had tried not to think of the ‘what if’ if he hadn’t felt the same.  “ I didn’t think you were interested to be honest. In men. In me.” “ It’s a recent discovery. And when you fall in love with such an extraodinary man... well... It’s not something you can moan about.”
Tumblr media
Sturges;     The arrival of Sole meant the reintroduction of something Sturges had only pretending he had for a while; hope. It’s hard not to get happy when seeing what you consider the persponification of that feeling. Sole didn’t consider him as mere footfolk, as replacable. He often came to look for him when he arrived back at the settlement, asking if he needed anything. When that happened to be some help when building something, Sole happily followed his instructions and looked just as proud when they had built something together. No matter what that something was. They grew closer in the process, building things together meant time to talk. Taking breaks together. Sturges, being a synth, hadn’t been so lucky to experience romantic feelings before. His life had not been his own for a good part of it, after all. Out in the commonwealth he had read some booklets laying around left and right, usually featuring a man and a woman in some dramatic pose. Somehow he figured that if he would ever fall in love with someone, it was therefore likely to be with a woman. He felt physical attraction, sure, but it was not necessarily only to them. He reveled in Sole’s presence more than anyone else’s, making him think about the descriptions of romantic love people had given him when asked.  They were working on something, welding, when something went wrong and Sturges barely in time managed to move out of the way.  “ Sturges, you okay?” He was looking at the projectile which had loged itself into the wall. “ I’m all right.” “ You should be more careful not to hurt that pretty face. “  His heart leapt. “You think I’m pretty?”  “ Well, I’m not blind. You’re a handsome man.” “ Sole, how do you know if you’re in love?”
Tumblr media
X6-88: (this is one of my person favourite ones tbh) The life of an institute syth meant being created artificially, serving the institute til’ death and when that comes along taking along as many enemies of the institute in the process. Feelings were discouraged, and if you had to have them, you had to keep ‘em under wraps. They just meant trouble to the institute, a reason to... discard you. Synths were told time and time over they owed their lives to the Institute and thus were indebted to it. No more than a cog in the machine. X6 initially loathed Sole for not immediately understanding how much of a big deal it was they were suddenly named heir to the institute, an outsider. But then he got to know them, their dedication to their cause even if it didn’t mimic that of the insititute entirely. For one... Sole never treated him as a mere tool. It confused him a little, irritated him even more, as it made him unsure on how to handle the status quo. Sole radiated a kind of natural authority, but just as much of a goal-oriented approach he had ever seen of anyone. Never. Stopped. Fighting. He admired him for it, until he realised that his admiration for Sole surpassed that of Father and converted into something else. Something he knew for it was described and discouraged by Institute scientists. Love. It hit him like a sledgehammer after battle, when Sole towered above his enemies with that same strength in his posture and look of pride in his eyes. X6 didn’t give a damn about his love interest being a man, he just gives a damn about falling in love with the boss. Exactly because romance was never to be in the cards in his line of work, he never really put all too much thought into his sexualty either way. It was altogether irrelevant. But falling for the damn heir to the Institute... that’s a definite way complicate things. He did as he had always been told, kept it quiet, fought it, until after a battle, with adrenaline running high, he ran up to Sole and kissed him. As soon as he’d done it he turned and cursed. He’d hear whether that was a problem or not as soon as Sole started moving again, he figured.
