Okay, I know Game of Thrones has been done for months but I had another thought: There are a ridiculous ammount of characters that could have been completely removed from this season and nothing would have changed. Including:
1. Tormund--Didn’t ultimately save a major character or provide anything but comic relief. Never spoke for the freefolk in politics. Most major contribution was making Dany feel jealous when he talked about Jon being a dragonrider and that could have gone to a non-Tormund entity
2. Gendry--His being a Baratheon and loving Arya didn’t matter in the end. His becoming Lord of Storm’s end was an after thought. It didn’t change Arya’s trajectory. They didn’t even have a goodbye scene. You could have cut all of his scenes and Arya’s story would not have been changed. Even the weapon he gave her only lasted a short bit into the fight.
3. Edd-- Him surviving the wall had no meaning. He just died later. I guess he saved Sam but we’ll talk about him in a minute.
4. Yara-- Did saving her matter? Not really. She just showed up at the end to be pro-Dany for two seconds and she didn’t even get a chance to grieve for her brother. They just threw her to the side.
5. Bronn-- I still don’t understand why he wasn’t killed in season seven because he had nothing to do at all. His assassination plot went no where and didn’t even effect Jaime and Tyrion in any sort of noticeable way. Could have cut him completely.
6. Davos-- Never gave any advice that changed the course of anything. Just hung around Jon. Could have been deleted and it wouldn’t matter.
7. Rhaegal-- Jon riding Rhaegal did basically nothing. The dragon barely breathed any fire and then he got killed in a shocking scene. Not that any of the dragons mattered outside of Drogon in this show but whatever.
And then there are characters that only mattered as props in other characters storylines or made BARELY any contributions, INCLUDING:
1. Missandei-- literally just there to get killed off to hurt Daenerys. Her language skills, her advice, her love with Greyworm. Doesn’t matter. She’s a plot device. Fuck, she and Dany didn’t even have any scenes together in this season.
2. Jaime-- Helped fight the dead I guess, and killed Euron who would have died anyway. Cersei would have died whether he returned or not. Could have literally not been in the fifth episode and nothing would have changed. he could have just stayed in the north and nothing would have changed and that’s bad writing.
3. Brienne-- Guess she had her romance with Jaime but then she wasn’t able to do anything about him leaving. She saved Jaime from execution at the beginning but, as we’ve discussed, Jaime has barely anything to do to impact the plot this season so *shrug*. All of Brienne’s agency and arc was taken away from her because D&D don’t give a shit.
4. Cersei-- FUCKING CERSEI who SHOULD have had a huge impact. Her ONLY action that effected the plot was executing Missandei. Hiring the golden company made no difference, she had no counter attack plan. Somehow Euron ‘no one cares’ Greyjoy ended up doing more. And yeah I know he ‘acts on Cersei’s orders’ so maybe we’ll give her the Rhaegal kill by extentsion but GOD she needed more of an impact.
5. Sam-- He revealed Jon’s parentage and it seemed like he might be a major person to back Jon for the throne or plot against Daenerys since he doesn’t like her but he does nothing else for the remainder of the show (not even stick up for Jon at the council). I guess he comes up with the title of a book. Yipee.
6. Bran-- I don’t blame Bran for this one because I think if D&D knew how to write magic at all, they would have gone into detail about what he was doing during the Battle of Winterfell. As it is, they made him seem like he was useless which is WRONG. Bran is supposed to be one of the MAIN PEOPLE behind the Night King’s defeat. Whether he was more involved int he strategy or we saw more of his visions or SOMETHING. D&D don’t know how to magic.
7. Jon-- You might say ‘Jon? But he killed Dany!’ Yep and that sure is the ONLY THING he did for the entire season. He didn’t even get to kill a wight dragon, he stood around during the genocide and could not change anything and then he ended up back beyond the wall, back at the beginning. Most of his arc or agency was eclipsed by Daenerys.
8. The Night King-- Killed only side characters and left no lasting impact on Westeros afterwards. Snow was already melting a week later.
Honestly, I probably missed some. But the characters who did the most to move the plot this season were Daenerys, Sansa, Arya, Tyrion and EURON of all people along with some side characters like the Hound, Melisandre and Berric. It’s a big ensemble cast and they didn’t know what to do with nearly all of them but in writing you HAVE to have a point for your characters. If you don’t, the audience notices and it becomes obvious that you have no idea what you’re doing.
Anyway, rant over. i’m tired.

It's Showtime: A Decade of 'Making People Happy'
Tumblr media
October 24, 2009; weeks after Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) flooded Metro Manila and nearby areas and days after Typhoon Pepeng (Parma) ravaged Northern Luzon, ABS-CBN introduced a new kind of programming which evolved into what was now a game-changer in Philippine TV. It premiered as a pre-noontime show on a Saturday morning just before Wowowee, this unique program was born as 'Showtime'. Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Kim Atienza, and the duo of Jugs Jugueta (Itchyworms lead vocalist) and Teddy Corpuz (Rocksteddy lead vocalist) were the original hosts.
A unique concept is that it all began as a talent show with some variety elements (including the 'Hurado o Burado' sub-portion, 'Score Mo, Show Mo' which happens after Kuya Kim's short trivia related to the competing group's information, and the weekly 'Himigsikan' showdown of Itchyworms and Rocksteddy,  plus 'Ang Tanong, Ang Sagot!', 'Arte Mo!' and 'I Know U'). The show also became the beginnings and growing-ups of Vice Ganda, Jhong Hilario, Karylle, Billy Crawford, Coleen Garcia, and Ryan Bang from being hurados to regular hosts. Showtime even faced competition with GMA's Diz Iz It, but it folded up. And it had to undergo controversies: In January 2010, a LIVE episode featured Rosanna Roces, being one of the judges gave inappropriate words against teachers and certain groups. That dilemma led the MTRCB (Movie & Television Review and Classification Board) to suspend the program for 20-days, and it had to revamp quickly as Magpasikat. But soon, 6 days later, when the Court of Appeals released a 60-day Temporary Restraining Order against the MTRCB suspension, SHOWTIME returned to the airwaves right after the TRO was issued. Months later, ABS-CBN won the case against MTRCB for the suspension of the show since the complaint didn't show any evidence nor any arguments presented on the part of the suspension of the program for a total of one month, including its temporary placeholder.
It had to experiment as a Noontime show when Pilipinas Win na Win cancelled by New Year's Eve 2011, but by February of 2011, it returned to Pre-noontime slot. By January 28, 2012; SHOWTIME ended for a temporary break in line with the reformat.
Tumblr media
A week after, on February 6, 2012, after losing to 8 variety shows of ABS-CBN in its ratings over perennial top-rater Eat Bulaga!, including Happy Yipee Yehey, which aired a finale episode 2 days before the relaunch. At exactly 11:30am, the show relaunched as It's Showtime. Who would have thought that It's Showtime will mark its 1st decade on the airwaves and considered as one of ABS-CBN's longest-running bprograms to date, joining the ranks of Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol, FPJ's Ang Probinsyano (which just turned its 4th year last Sept. 28), ASAP Natin 'To!, MMK, Salamat Dok, Matanglawin, and S.O.C.O,  among others which are existed on the air for many years.
LOOK: 3 presidents (GMA relinquished her 9-year Presidential term, PNOY served his full 6-year term, and DU30's term is halfway through), 4 elections, countless calamities, 2 Miss Universe titles for our Country plus 4 runner-ups (Venus Raj, Shamsey Supsup, Janine Tugonon, and Ariella Arrida), plus 2 beauty titleholders and Miss Earth queens for the Philippines, plus other notable events during the 10-year existence of It's Showtime.
Tumblr media
It was in 2016 when the original singing competition on philippine TV returned to the airwaves after many years. Tawag Ng Tanghalan now already has 3 champions for the past 3 seasons: S1 Champion: Noven Belleza S2 Champion: Janine Berdin S3 Champion: Elaine Duran Plus TNT Boys, who were from the inaugural Tawag Ng Tanghalan Kids season now becomes popular worldwide.
It's showtime had to face competition, despite the boom of the AlDub phenomenon back in 2015 that drastically becomes in danger of cancelling the show, it had to undergo improvements and since the succeeding years, It's Showtime has gained ratings vs. longtime ally Eat Bulaga! which was the longest-reigning No. 1 Variety Show in years. It has recognized by the prestigious award-giving bodies both in professional and academe, as well as honors from its hosts in the Anak TV-Seal awards. The show held its out of studio presentations from different parts of the country as well as sold-out shows abroad.
If there are hello's, there are also goodbye's. Some of them pursued other passions like Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia who were both married, while others left unnoticed: Eric Tai and Kim Atienza left the show with no formal announcements, but Kuya Kim's presence in the show returned first as a head judge in Mr. Q&A, the male counterpart of the trending 2-season Miss Q&A segment, and eventually, in the show during the entire Anniversary Month.
Tumblr media
And making history once again, It's Showtime has adapted internationally through a non-narrative franchise agreement with Indonesia's MNC-TV. It's Showtime Indonesia, the 1st International version has made a big hit in its weekday schedule among Indonesian viewers. It debuted on March 25 of this year, which was simultaneously aired via a live feed from ABS-CBN's It's Showtime crossing over to the MNC Studios during the TNT timeslot due to time difference (Indonesia's timezone is one hour away from the Philippines timezone, in other words: GMT +7 in Jakarta, GMT+8 in Manila). Jugs, Teddy, and Direk Bobet Vidanes witnessed day one of the International version in which ABS-CBN has been exporting drama series to international markets and translating into various languages through international distribution of their content. The Indonesian version is hosted by well-kmown Indonesian celebrities as well as Filipino-Indonesian actor Leo Consul who was the former host of anoth franchised show Eat Bulaga! Indonesia.
Tumblr media
And who they are: The team Showtime that made every noontime a good vibes for the Madlang People. Original hosts Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz, and the Unkabogable Vice Ganda plus Karylle, Ryan Bang, Amy Perez-Castilio, Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla, Hashtags, and Girltrends.  October 24th (Thursday) was their 3,481st episode (that's 310-311 episodes/year, excluding the Holy Week Triduum, and the 6-days that Showtime underwent transition to a noontime show).
Tumblr media
It's Showtime airs Nationwide through ABS-CBN weekdays 12:15-3:30pm and Saturdays 12pm-3:15pm (it may go overtime depending on Vice Ganda's jokes and banters), with a live simulcast on YouTube under Showtime Online Universe channel, with same-day replays on Jeepney TV through 'It's Showtime sa Primetime' from 7:15-10:15pm on weekdays and 7pm-10:45pm on Saturdays, plus express or delayed airing on TFC (The Filipino Channel) depending on international timezone and airtime.
Last Oct. 21-26, the show held a special Anniversary week at the Newport Performing Arts Theater inside Resorts World Manila with the last eliminations week of Classic Showtime segment and the Magpasikat competition which is the show’s tradition every year. On the last day of the special, J-Crisis emerged as Grand Champion of the segment, while the winners of the 10th Magpasikat Competition were announced: Team Anne and Tyang Amy emerged 3rd Place, while Team Vhong and Mariel placed 2nd, and Team Vice makes its  2nd soloist to emerge the top place after Team Vhong topped the competition in 2017. Team Karylle & Ryan and Team Jugs, Teddy, and Jhong were Runners-up of the competition.

Ancient Magus’ Bride 24 (FINAL) | ReLIFE OVAs 2 - 4 (FINAL) | Mahou Shoujo Ore 1 | Gakuen Babysitters 12 (FINAL) | Zoku Touken Ranbu Hanamaru 12 (FINAL) | Dances with the Dragons 1
The spring season came early on Crunchyroll, but HiDive is locking me out in exchange.
Ancient Magus’ Bride 24 (FINAL)
Aw, c’mon Chise. Beating people up is not how you do things, that’s a shonen protag’s role!
Noticeably, Elias seems to be “the child”.
Who’s the “weirdo”??? Chise? Elias?
The confetti kind of looks like flowers…
Alrightttttttttttttttt…this show just went into lecherous and out of the comfort zone territory when I remembered Chise is 15. Wearing a bridal outfit and exchanging rings. Yipe.
Wait, so what happened to Joseph’s eye? The dragon arm I get, but…
I was wondering what was under those gloves of Elias’s, so now you know. *The More You Know star shoots past*
I’m kinda confused. That ending was sweet but it was abrupt and didn’t solve much. Actually, I think it bred quite a few questions I won’t get answered anywhere but the manga…ergh. Dangit, manga!
ReLIFE OVA 2
Didn’t think I’d see Sumire (the volleyball teacher) again.
Interestingly the kanji combo for human and fish (in that order) is “mermaid” but the other way around is “fishman”…hmm…
I had some yakisoba recently. It has a distinctive flavour to it…dang, now I’m hungry.
It’s the brother again. He’ll be important, alright.
For reference, the ED is CHE.R.RY buy YUI.
Mahou Shoujo Ore 1
Yay! This show is my first debut for the spring season so I couldn’t be happier – I’m actually getting my magical boys (unlike my magical girls, which are likely to be locked away behind HiDive’s paywall)! It’s not about rocks (LOL) but ore in this case refers to the Japanese male pronoun.
Ah, this is so PreCure. It’s like I’ve come home. Welcome home, Saki!
Nice boat!
That “It was all a dream” definitely isn’t in the original, but it does set people’s expectations up, eh? The ol’ bait-and-switch.
Henshin = Transformation. It’s not “Transform” unless it has suru on the end.
The face in the song subs is a good touch.
Honeyed Flash, eh? (LOL)
Glass Galaxy is the ED if you’re not in the know.
Those stretched faces, kinda like Saitama’s…are from the original manga…(I feel sorry for admitting that now.)
Some animation of Saki is definitely 2010s, but it keeps feeling like this show was from 10 years ago from the stripped-back style. It’s quite the whiplash, but it’s not something I was ever bothered over (if you remember Saiyuki Reload Blast, that was a similar dilemma).
“…you’re an old hag once you’re over 15…” – Aside from vaguely calling back YOI’s young ages for retiring (which makes me kind of sad), there are PreCure girls who are over 15 (Cure Moonlight was 17) and the Outer Senshi were all older than 15 with the exception of Sailor Saturn, IIRC.
I think the OKAN on Sayori’s apron is meant to be short for okaasan, although I might be wrong there. (*still imagining what a wonderful world we live in, to be blessed with an adaption of this manga…even with two anime-original characters…*)
Okay…there was one shot there that reiterated why I don’t watch anime in public.
Monokubo, eh? (LOL)
Gakuen Babysitters 12 (FINAL)
Did Kotaro always call Saikawa Sai-chan???
Yikes, Kamitani isn’t that discerning about the age of who he hits after all. I thought it was just Taka-related abuse for most of the episodes…or maybe I’m generalising too much.
Eh, insensitive mu-oh, never mind.
Is the present for Ryuichi a smartphone? It is, isn’t it?
So that’s the end of another series. See you next time!
Zoku Touken Ranbu Hanamaru 12 (FINAL)
According to the rules of the game, you can only have one party in one time period at a time. Therefore, by bending the rules, you make for a more compelling anime…huh. They did it in Katsugeki too, although it was in a slightly different way.
Oh boy, I looked into this and this white-looking outfit is Yasusada’s Kiwame! Ooh, I was looking forward to this in Katsugeki and I finally get it! (I left before Kiwame was a thing, so I finally get to vicariously live out my Kiwame fantasies, LOL.)
If you’ve made it this far in TR, you obviously know how much Yasusada values Okita-kun…I’m so proud of my boy, even if he wasn’t a particularly special sword to me…
It’s wonderful to know that feeling – that I’ve supported TR from before the animes happened because of one measly sword known as Kashuu Kiyomitsu. That I now have friends all over the world with their own favourite swords who I can chat to anytime I want, because Toshiki Masuda got involved with a small franchise that got really big (in Japan). I think that’s a power of Boueibu’s “rookie system”, if I were to give it a name.
…With that, I say “farewell” to 2 seasons of Hanamaru! See you again someday!
ReLIFE OVA 3
Aw, Kariu and Ohga out on a lovers’ holiday…these guys are too adorable.
Arata says “You were made for each other” with such a straight face I can’t even…LOL.
Is it just me, or did they get more inventive with the backgrounds because the OVAs were straight to disc content?
My eyes have gotten so attuned to CGI I can tell the basket is CGI…I think that’s what made me toss (Space Battleship) Tiramisu off my list temporarily, come to think of it.
Arata still smokes? Oh dear…
Ferret Town, LOL.
Give Arata some eye contact, Hishiro! C’mon!
I think it’s kind of obvious, but they picked blue for the boys and pink for the girls in the background.
These picture slideshows are pretty cool (kinda like YoI…?). Less animation to do, as well.
The shop Hishiro looks at provides ramen and tsukemen.
Huh? For some reason, when I look at this “Genus Port” place, I’m reminded of a place which I think is in Los Angeles (or it could be in Las Vegas or Hong Kong, I don’t remember). There’s a bunch of shops around there, a fountain and a painted sky on the roof, plus a fancy yellow brick “building” in the middle somewhere. I think it was vaguely Italian or other European-looking in shop aesthetic, but that’s all I can get from the depths of my brain…
The words “grow up” have a very special meaning here in two different ways.
I’m still wondering, why does the guy always have to fall in love first? If the guy isn’t in love first, the girl sometimes gets laughed at or people just call it a transient crush. It’s quite saddening, to get your feelings crushed like that.
Score one! The song is La La La Love Song by Toshinobu Kubota with Naomi Campbell.
The final episode is called “Life”, which doesn’t match “Seed” or “Need” at all. Nor does it match “Date”. Fair weather charms would be teru teru bouzu.
ReLIFE OVA 4 (FINAL)
Did I see the map of Japan on the wall in the original series??? Or is that a new addition?
Aw, this scene where they just cry for a minute really got to me. Not that I cried, but it really hit me in the feels.
I’ve never heard this phrase before…”pat answer”? Okay…?
I think Onoya just wanted senpai to notice her, LOL.
The revelation that Arata wanted to work for the ReLIFE lab startled even me, and I tackled the series long before a lot of people got in on it!
Yoake-san’s got a moon on his icon. Considering his surname means “daybreak” and one kanji means “night”, it makes complete sense.
I couldn’t read the nameplate, but you can tell from the clothing colours that’s Ohga’s house.
I found this article on hikikomori one time and thought it would be relevant to share here, actually. It’s talking about a company that gets hikikomori to be social again through repeated correspondence…kind of like ReLIFE itself.
As soon as I saw the line “Fate may tear us far apart”, I knew the ED for this episode was “Button”.
Why do I get the feeling there’s still something left for me to see…?
I was so dang close to crying when they remembered each other! Gah! I need to recover, but I have some new episodes on tap as well. So, with that, it’s the end of our time with each other, ReLIFE. Farewell, and until next time.
Dances with the Dragons 1
I think, out of simplicity, I’ll call this show “Saredo” (“Even Still”) instead. As to how I was attracted to this show, it was because not only are there some great voices at the helm, but I think “physics x magic” could really go places as a concept.
Guy with big sword. It reminds me of a lot of shonen anime, like D Gray Man…or even Deltora Quest…
“SareRyuu”? That seems like a strange name, I think “Saredo” suits it better.
The only thing I fixated on in Gigina’s full name was the weird mention of “Ashley” somewhere in it. If anyone were to tease him, that would be a wide opening for them to attack him with.
This is looking like a Grancrest all over again, which spells bad things (LOL) about this show. Despite that, an Aini seems to be the spell Gayus (learnt his name from promo material) was using.
Gayus and Gigina have a great rapport. If they decide to go comedy with this show, it seems that would be very welcome here.
My mind is blown…it’s a sword, but it also provides armour and kind of acts like a gun in how it does that…amazing…
I feel like I’m really back in the driver’s seat, now that I’m getting my first new action anime in 2 seasons! Winter wasn’t bad but it can’t keep an action anime fan down!
Gigina’s a competent dragon slayer, eh? Slay me instead *wink wink, nudge nudge*! (LOL)
So an Altar is a special type of dragon, one that’s so special it has to be in a league of its own. Duly noted.
This show is screaming for a dub, for some reason…that’s my thoughts on it, anyway.
Notably, Kenryu in Japanese could translate to “sword dragon” with the right kanji combo.
Wow, this show is really political. I’ve getting Grancrest vibes all over again…
Uh…I guess I was wrong on the overall quality of humour in this show. The Horton joke was so black, I couldn’t see through it!
Is it possible in this world to arrest a dragon for murder? Or do you just slay it?
“They must be pretty good.”
Gayus is such a Kunikida, LOL. Except he drinks…uh…coffee? Tea? Not sure what his beverage of choice is, actually.
Juku and jushiki…are you trying to make my head spin with all the tongue twisters???
Wow, those green gems even have names like guns!
Well…Gigina isn’t quite Dazai, but I guess every straight man needs someone more frivolous to play off of…
“Falusi” appears to be a Hungarian word for villager (at least, Wiktionary said that when I checked it)…which obviously doesn’t work here. Stupid fantasy words…
The cut between the screaming man and Gayus wasn’t the best…
“Science-oriented”? Y’mean there are ones that are magic-oriented as well? Ooh.
*squints at this dude with black hair* He kinda looks like Ibusuki Ata (Boueibu Happy Kiss).
Someone went all out on the aesthetic for the ED! Wowee…
Even though these fantasy words and names are going to make my head spin and I’m sure this show isn’t for everyone, I’ll be keeping it on for now. You can tell it’s more competent than Mahou Shoujo Ore from the air it holds, but Mahou Shoujo Ore is a lot more fun…so this’ll be a tough decision if I have to cut either of them…
