"We believe that Ryan Condal and his team have done an extraordinary job and the millions of fans the series has amassed over the first two seasons will continue to enjoy it.”
So...... they haven't seen what fans and critics are saying about season 2? 💀

All right there has been some Discourse TM about George RR Martin because of that post he made going rogue on HOTD's writers (deleted a few hours later but archived) and I'm seeing some misinformed reactions by people who aren't in the publishing or entertainment industries so lemme clarify some things:
- Creators are not the ones with the power. Execs are. Even an author as big as George gets their opinions dismissed if the higher-ups don't want to listen.
- HBO has not listened to George's feedback and concerns for years. They do not have to, because once adaptation rights are signed away it is OUT of the author's hands. How do you think GOT Season 8 happened?
- George cannot just shut down production or refuse to let them make future seasons of any show inspired by his works because he doesn't like what they're doing. He can't break the contract willy-nilly either when HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS are at stake. I hope people keep that in mind before saying "oh why is he complaining while continuing to collect his royalty checks?" Well, if they're fucking up his stories he might as well get some money out of it.
- He's not complaining for complaining's sake. I hung out with him a few weeks ago and heard his full scope of opinions on HOTD and what he said in the post was VERY mild. Probably the least spicy storytelling critique he could've brought up. And I do believe this was on purpose and strategic. He's not going full scorched earth on HBO, but he's showing them that he COULD. He did this as a warning shot to get them to listen to him because clearly he saw some very upsetting plans for upcoming HOTD seasons. If he just wanted to complain there's way spicier shit he could've said.
- For those who think he's disrespecting the show's writers...How do you think he felt when they have dismissed his feedback in private and driven him to the point of risking legal action to make his point to them?
- Just because he didn't mention something in the post doesn't mean he approves of it or doesn't care, and the post should not be used to extrapolate his opinions on anything that's not related to what he specifically addressed. Again, what he said was VERY mild. Ultimately, what matters to him is logical storytelling and complex, morally gray characters.
- Lastly, I do not consider myself part of the HOTD or GOT fandoms. I'm a casual and defending him as a fellow author. Please do not involve me in any fandom drama. I do not know what's going on in there and I don't want to.

This is especially ironic for a few reasons.
1) NaNOWriMo’s ‘50,000 words in a month’ structure has ALWAYS been harder to reach for disabled writers. People with ADHD, depression, brain fog, any amount of executive dysfunction. And thus a lot of people would set their own personal word goals for the month which is the correct response to using accommodations, not AI.
2) the NaNOWriMo community was supposed to help you find writing/critique partners that didn’t require spending money. It was an equivalent exchange sort of thing. I’ll review your stuff if you review mine. There are so many places you can seek out feedback in writing communities that don’t cost money and also don’t require AI which is BAD AT EDITING. Hell, there are free versions of editing softwares that are way better
3) NaNOWriMo trying to make this about ‘ethics’ (we’re not classist and ableist we’re sooo inclusive) after their inability to protect their young writers from bullying and grooming in the forum spaces is ridiculous (look up what happened in 2023)
In short: fuck this
Nanowrimo supports AI.
Zendesk post titled ‘What is NaNoWriMo's position on Artificial Intelligence (AI)?’
Tumblr media
Besides there being no mention of scraping or of stolen material, or even any idea of they’re talking about generative AI or older proofreaders, this statement is horribly classist and ableist in itself, essentially implying that lower class and/or disabled writers need to use AI to make their works ‘suitable’ for the upper class market.
If I could get a little personal, that is so fucking stupid. I’m disabled, I’m relatively new to writing, and my work is rough as fuck around the edges. Disabled people can write. We don’t need AI to do it for us, even if it was completely 100% ethical, which it really is not.
So yeah. Nano is pro AI, if you want another reason to hate them.

I've recently finished reading your GoT fanfic A Wolf Amongst Lions and I just wanted to say how incredible it was, I never thought I would cry over Tywin Lannister but you bloody succeeded, it's genuinely an amazing bit of literature, you really understood the characters, the way the story arcs played out was tense and exciting, things were foreshadowed so well and how you brought back small inconsequential things and gave them greater meaning was so good, it's absolutely fantastic and thank you so much for writing it, the fact that you maintained a weekly schedule and the writing was still at such a high calibre blew my mind, imagine my surprise and joy when I found out there's a sequel, I haven't started it yet but I'm looking forward to it, you're a brilliant writer and I hope to read more of your works in the future, thank you again and I hope you're doing well
Thank you so much <3 Still getting messages like this 5 years after I finished the fic really makes me smile! I'm so glad that you enjoyed!

So I saw you reblog and add about how you used to write Fullmetal alchemist fanfic. Any chance you still have those up somewhere? I used to be obsessed and Brotherhood popped up on my recommended for you and I realized I'm an adult with money now and I've been sucked back in with all the additional content available in guidebooks
Lol they're on my fanfiction.net account still. Kallypso is my name over there. The first book is called Lightning Strike. You must be wary that I wrote most of it when I was a teenager lol. I fully rewrote the first volume when I was around 18 I think? And I never quite finished the rewrite of the second. The third is in it's original form but because I wrote it the latest it's in the best shape. Also it is an OC fic. That's another important disclaimer.
I also had another FMA fic called Double Edged Blades. It was also an OC fic but I finished it. I remember being decently proud of that one, but again I was a teenager when I wrote that too lol. My other FMA fics are unfinished.
I'm still proud of all of them, especially given my age at the time but if you decide to read it, give teenage me some grace lol

Way back in high school when I was in the midst of writing the third fic in a huge full metal alchemist trilogy, I went to a creative writing camp and made friends with a girl. I was showing my fanfiction.net stats (my heritage) and as she looked, she realized she’d been following my series for a while and loved it!
Good news for her? I had finished the fic and was just posting chapters at a regular schedule. So she got to read the rest before everyone else on my computer. Good news for me? I got to watch her cry at the sad parts lol
Fanfic authors are amazing like they could be literally anyone. That one coffee au you read last night? Could have been written by morgan freeman who knows

Hello 👋, I hope you're doing well..
My name is Mahmoud, and I'm a 17-year-old from Gaza. The ongoing war has devastated my city, destroyed my school, and made daily life incredibly challenging.
Despite these hardships, I'm determined to continue my education and build a better future. I've been given a chance to study abroad, but I need help to cover the costs of leaving Gaza, as well as living expenses and other essentials abroad once the crossing opens.. 🙏
If you can, please consider donating or sharing, your kindness can truly make a difference, and thanks for your time. ❤🍉

Palestinian tiktoker Medo Halimy was martyred yesterday. He was growing a garden and making "a day in the life" tiktoks while in Gaza. He was just 19 years old and now he's gone, but y'all wanna pretend that people wanting hard stances against genocide is some kind of moral superiority issue and not the fact that people are literally dying.
This is his family's gofundme that's still linked to his tiktok. Please send some help their way so they no longer have to lose more of their family.

I feel like I've seen so many TV cancellation announcements for stuff that I might've watched but now might not. And it really just emphasizes how much the current system is eating itself.
Binge culture means that people are expected to consume a show right as it drops. Because so many shows are binged now, even weekly shows are held to the same standard. If they don't perform well during the initial release, they are written off because binge numbers are the numbers that matter.
So you get more and more people who are afraid to get invested in shows because it might get canceled on a cliffhanger. Because of that, they don't tune in to watch something until they're sure its going to continue. So the next bingeable show gets less viewers. It gets canceled. More people join the 'I'm not going to watch yet because I'm afraid to get invested' crowd. Less people watch TV.
And it sucks because people like this are often the most ardent fans of a work--the ones who will write fanfiction and make fanart and write long analytical posts convincing people to watch a show. The people who will make a new show their whole personality because that's how hyperfixation works. I am amongst that crowd. I can't let myself get invested in something anymore unless I know that I'm going to get emotional payoff.
TV execs have been continuously breaking trust with fandom spaces for the past several years. They don't give shows a chance to find their legs, to grow an audience, to gain a cult following. They kill something in it's cradle in service to the numbers.
And it's not just the fans who suffer because of this. It's writer's rooms. I'm going to school right now for screenwriting and its BAD out there. So many writers who pour their heart and soul into a concept only to never get to bring it to fruition. There's no room for slow burns. For thoughtful storytelling. For trusting the audience. There's no room for real creativity. So the shows that do get renewed are often competent but uninspired or sequel/franchise content. Cause that's what gets views.
I cannot imagine how disheartening it is as a writer to start so many projects and never get to finish them. Think about your own writing. If you were working on a fanfiction but knew at any moment someone could stop you updating because you aren't getting enough hits/kudos, would you find joy in that anymore? I sure wouldn't.
I believe that a lot of the best storytelling is going to come out of indie spaces in the next few years--writers and artists moving outside of Hollywood and making their own low budget stories. Because it's almost impossible to thrive within the current system.
It's not the writer's fault. It's not the fan's fault. It's the way TV has become. And its going to crash and burn and I'm sure execs will find a way to blame anything but the system they created.

It's been one year since I moved cities to pursue grad school for screenwriting. I'm in so much better of a place than I was last year at this time; the difference is night and day.
