if you attach gifs to your fics, gifmakers still deserve credit for those gifs and you're stealing and reposting otherwise. infuriating because the search function is so easy to use and posts the credit instantly! easier process than saving and reposting and generally being a big 'ol headache.

that said, if you've made austin butler gifs, mainly from the bikeriders and elvis, you may want to check @pxnsneverland and in particular their fic tag. there are a few different fandoms with similar reposting, like stranger things. i've tagged some folks whose work i recognize, but there are a ton i don't. hoping to get the word out so folks can block if they'd like to, since of course this person ignored me.

editing with additional blogs this person has so people can block if they'd like to, since they also have gifs reposted on these: xxyouaremysunshinex, waystobewixed, kingoftheneverwoods, and kingoftheneverwoods-archive.

I'm sure @staff has kind of a lot on their plate right now but while I'm thinking of it, this would be nice to have:

Add a Fandom community label. Or a dedicated universal tag, or a box you can check during post creation, or just anything that has the ultimate effect of allowing users to filter fan content.

This could at-least-slightly ameliorate problems with the search.

I have come into acceptance of the fact that fixing the notoriously dysfunctional search, even on individual blogs, is just way, way, way out of scope for some reason. Tumblr must know that a functional search would radically increase engagement, so I assume that the persistence of this glaring problem means that there is simply no way to fix it. I tell myself that "search" really just means "give me a handful of related suggestions" and not "show me every instance of X". I am learning to live with this.

What compounds this issue is that there is no way to separate fan content from content directly related to your search terms.

EXAMPLE: I search for a popular movie, and the results are so overburdened with people's personal stories and drawings that it's impossible for me to find anything actually related to the film. I give up quickly and Tumblr loses engagement from both me and the people who post screencaps/gifs/music/production info/etc.

EXAMPLE: I'm searching for something--anything--but my commonplace search term happens to be related to a very specific fandom. Perhaps I have never even heard of this fandom. But after scrolling through yards and yards of fan fiction, I have to give up, and Tumblr loses engagement from me and also whoever is posting about the actual thing I wanted.

OTHER NEGATIVE EFFECTS:

1. I stopped tracking ALL tags because they were constantly serving me fan content. I haven't bothered with tags for years because of this.

2. I blocked tons of innocent users because I couldn't avoid seeing their fan content; in order to stop seeing it, I have to sacrifice our entire ability to interact. I'm not alone there, sometimes I even see a note about this in someone's header ("Sorry you're blocked, it's probably because Tumblr won't stop showing me your fan art").

All of these scenarios happen to me and other users all the time and we have been vocally complaining about this. And I know Tumblr has rebranded itself as the fandom app in recent years, but I would say that even a fandom person still wants to see i.e. actual movie & TV show stuff and not just other people's drawings and stories.

So basically Tumblr has two big, related problems: Search doesn't really work AND is clogged with fan content that drowns out everything else.

BUT what if we could just have ONE problem? What if the search had a toggle that includes or excludes fan content. Then even if the search only gives me limited results, I can improve those results by making sure they are ONLY related directly to the thing I want. This would make the Tumblr search instantly, hugely more useful and I would do way more with it, way more often.

Maybe it could even work both ways, like I can choose to ONLY see fan content for a given search term, fandom folks would probably have a use for that. But the main thing for me is that even if search functionality is unfixably limited, I could refine the limited results and get only the most relevant stuff by excluding one common piece of metadata. Problem not-solved, but significantly reduced!

So it seems like the Jedi Wars are heating up again, sigh. I have fandom sheriffs blocked instantly here. I am leaving reblogs on this open but I am warning in advance that you do not want to come at me on this post because the response will be an immediate block with no engagement. So you should really save yourself the trouble of typing it out. But I feel like some of the essential points are being missed. Namely:

Nobody has to like the Jedi.

Nobody has to approve of the Jedi.

Fans really are entitled to think the Jedi are terrible and their tactics are terrible.

All of this is about a work of fiction.

People, again, are entitled to have opinions about the media they consume.

None of that, in any way, affects people who are Jedi fans/apologists unless they actively choose to make it their problem.

Most of the time those of us who don't dig the Jedi are in our corner and don't give a damn what you're doing as long as you don't bother us.

It would be really nice if some those who liked the Jedi would remember those basic principles - but they have to Fandom Sheriff things and to loudly and aggressively let everyone else know They're Wrong. They come storming into posts, even when the OP has warned they do not want discourse, to try to engage and argue to tell people They're Wrong. They accuse people who Are Wrong!! with having sympathies for real-world fascism and Nazis, which is offensive on more levels than I can even articulate. They insist that if you don't share their opinion you must have issues with "Eastern Religion" (which is a pretty damn vague way to consider not only multiple streams of Buddhism but the many MANY other religions practiced in the "East" that have a very wide range of beliefs. As well as a big damned stretch considering it was all written by a Protestant white man from the USA. As well as the fact that we are again talking about a piece of fictional media and not a real world long established religion). Their way is apparently the only way one can possibly believe about a piece of fiction and they will aggressively butt into your conversations and posts to tell you.

All of which, at the end of the day, is a lot like evangelism/fundamentalism.

If you like the Jedi, there are ways to actively avoid those of us who do not agree with you. Filter tags. Block. Cultivate your fandom experience to surround yourself with people who have similar views. Associate with people who are mature enough to realize a mutual can disagree with their interpretation of a work of fiction without accusing them of being a Nazi. Hell, that's what we all do to avoid you whenever possible.

But grow the hell up and realize that not everyone will share your opinions on your favorites in fictional media, people with differences of opinion are entitled to them, and they are also entitled to their own fandom experience without you yipping at their heels and squeaking indignantly in their conversations.

In The Low Light master-list

Yes this is a Sleep Token themed blog, but I listen to a very wide range of music. Some of those are Hozier, Måneskin, Bad Omens, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Halestorm, Catch Your Breath, MALINDA, Mackenzie Johnson, Queen, I Prevail and a bunch of others.

I am also currently working on my debut novel, and I just started my very first fanfiction, In The Low Light. I like space and science, but also spirituality and history of different religions.

As for stuff about Sleep Token, their identities will not be discussed here. If you send me anything with their information, I will delete it and block you. I do know their information, unfortunately, because I was jump scared in the comments of a TikTok and now it’s burned into my brain. I will not post about it. Ever.

I found Sleep Token through The Summoning last year when it went viral. Almost instantly, they became my favourite band of all time.

As of right now, they are pretty much the only thing keeping me in one piece. I’m going through a very hard time right now and I’m kind of losing my mind.

As for my goals for this page, I will be starting some watercolour paintings of the boys as soon as possible. I will be starting with Ivy since he is my muse.

Each painting will include their mask in the centre, surrounded by flowers/plants that I have selected based on their symbology. More on that with each instalment of each painting.

As of right now, I only plan on doing these pictures, though I do have some ideas for some Måneskin portraits too. We will see.

I currently do not have plans to sell any of the artwork, nor do I have the financial means to do so either. Please respect this. (After some thought, I might, in the future sell digital prints of my works. If there is enough interest.)

KIM GYUVIN is a new sport student, specializing in soccer. he's y/n first and current love, even if the two are not into a relationship anymore. after their breakup, gyuvin cut all ties with her, even blocking her number and social medias, so as not to hear from y/n at all. to say that he doesn't miss y/n would be a lie, but the boy has definitely moved on — unlike y/n. apart from that, he's an extremely helpful guy, always there for others, and always bringing good cheer to those around him.

SHEN QUANRUI or ricky, is gyuvin's best friend since kindergarten. ricky knows every gyuvin's reactions by heart, and knows exactly how the guy works. of course, he kept to himself the fact that he still spoke to y/n and regularly gave her news of him — because gyuvin would probably have strangled him instantly. despite the fact that this love story has ruined their little group of friends, ricky respects the decision of the two concerned and doesn't interfere in their stories.

SEOL YOONAH or sullyoon is friend with gyuvin since high school. after breaking up with y/n, gyuvin had to get closer to some of his other friends to forget his ex-lover, which led him to sullyoon and her pretty smile. if there's one girl y/n is jealous of, it's her : but mostly because she thinks she's very pretty and easily affordable (and because she has the chance to stay by gyuvin's side, unlike her).

HAN DONGMIN or taesan, is another friend of gyuvin from high school. they also became close after gyuvin broke up with y/n, even though taesan kept in touch with the girl. he's a trusted friend who helped him a lot get over the whole thing, while trying not to get too involved. he also studied sport, but this time basketball.

KIM MINJI is gyuvin's classmate and new friends, and probably the only one girl to which he confides as if she was his secret diary. to y/n's dismay, minji is the person who knows all the boy's secrets best actually — and more specifically, who can make him say and believe whatever she wants. obviously, her wish is not to harm people, but her first priority is to stop seeing gyuvin suffer because of y/n. she's a sport student, specialized in volleyball.

SIM JAYUN or yoon, is gyuvin's new classmate and an old friend of dongmin. she's a bubbly person who's not afraid to say what she thinks, and is determined to stir up trouble in her new establishment. with a reputation as an unruly student, yoon is always the first to get a laugh, which has led to an easy friendship with gyuvin.

KIM HANBIN is gyuvin's big brother, and a ex-friend of y/n, to gyuvin's dismay. the two brothers get on perfectly well and are always there for each other, even in the most difficult of times. hanbin has always supported his little brother and even if he is disappointed not to have y/n auround anymore, he fully respects his decision to cut ties with her. as a graduate student, hanbin works at his mother's café, which is famous in town for its exquisite bubble tea.

heeellooo!!! ^_^ thank u sm for ur compliments lovely xx means a LOTT! im gonna give u some advice based on my own personal experience on tumblr for the past 4 years (also had a previous writing acc with 4k+ a year or two back) :

start with setting up your writing blog! it’s important to let your future followers know what they’re getting into by following you and what your boundaries are. essentials to make: “blog rules page” — put your DNI (do not interact if…) section and BYF (before you follow) section in there | “request rules page” is also important if you want to take on requests from anons | “masterlist page” to put all your published work in one place | “about me page” if you want to tell people information about yourself.

for examples on how those pages can look, you can click on my profile & see how i did / set up my pages + take inspo!

it’s also partially important to have a easily navigable / aesthetically pleasing theme or layout. this will capture more attention of others. well, that’s speaking from my experience. something aesthetically pleasing to look at adds so much to the appeal !!!! i personally love it when writing blogs have a cool / cute / interesting theme bcs it catches my eye and makes me check out their works more.

after setting up your blog, you can start publishing a work of fiction. use the tags wisely and accordingly. jjk related fic example: ‘jjk x reader’ , ‘jjk smut’ (only if it is smut), ‘jjk fluff’ (only if its fluff), ‘gojo x reader’ etc etc etc ! you can follow what the writers you follow do with their posted fics. but make sure to tag properly. (p.s if you created a separate new acc, make sure that you give it a day or two bcs tumblr has to confirm that you aren’t a bot before your account is visible in tags)

keep in mind; gaining notes and followers can take days, weeks to months !!! please don’t get easily demotivated because your fic isn’t getting the notes you thought it would have. especiallyyyy at the start of your writing tumblr acc!!! i know how it feels, but i can reassure you that there will be people who will show up and appreciate your work one day!

interact with readers. interact with people who leave comments, show them that you appreciate the support they give you !! u can also make appreciation posts for ur readers and thank them for their support to let them know that it means a lot!!

interact with other writers!! reblog their fics, leave comments, pop up in their inbox with a small message — that’s how u mostly start making mutuals. mutuals will literally get u FARRRR on tumblr (ofc dont just use the other writers solely for the purpose to make ur fics get more notes . . . people easily get blocked by many if they do, they would by me too). but im sure many writers on here dont mind to spread your fics without you directly having to ask for it. if u just interact and make friends, that will follow automatically!

write what you want, when you want. getting ideas for fics can take some time, but when you do have an idea, write it down somewhere. you dont have to instantly write the entire fic — take ur time!!!!! don’t feel pressured to constantly post fics, i’m sure your audience understands that you have a life outside of tumblr.

but! posting constantly at the start of your tumblr acc can take u far as well. if u constantly appear in tags, ppl will get curious abt ur account. but don’t feel pressured to bcs it can easily burn u out !! just a little thing that i did at the start of my acc

What do you think that is, what are the tell tell signs he should have picked upon, how did his media team train him to pick up on this signs, what are other famous examples of media training etc etc… Because it feels like you and I have a very set idea of how this works and before I reply and assume stuff, it would be great if you could clarify.

Hi! I love the way you role play Doflamingo and it inspired me to want to write as well. I just turned 18 and this would be my first role play blog. Any advice for a newbie?

Oi, oi, oi! Welcome to the rpc! I do hope you have a good time.

Basic things for the start: do have a rules page (otherwise people aren't likely to follow you back) where you'll state general rules, your age, triggers if you have any, anything important to note to your fellow rp partners, etc. You can go around blogs to get the general gist of it, but don't feel pressured to write extensive and long rules unless you want to. Short and concise is as good as long and detailed. Secondly, an about page about your character. You get more leeway with this if you're roleplaying a canon character, but it's a must if you have an original character. Thirdly, not a necessity but trust me makes life much easier, is a tagging system. It will help you filter out things you want or don't want on your dash, as much as help with looking up things and headcanons on your own blog.

Everything else, icons, headers, aesthetic as people refer to it, carrd, is not mandatory and is personal preference and desire. If you want to make all these things, by all means go for it, if you don't want to spend hours on it and just enjoy writing, avoiding all of this is more than fine. In that case, make your rules and about page as posts on your blog and link them to a pinned post on your page. You're all set.

Now, darling, here comes the part many won't actually tell you about but I will, just so you're prepared. If you take anything from this post, take the things below.

Do keep in mind that you're dealing with people, not fictional characters. What I mean by that is not the fact they have lives apart from tumblr (goes without saying), but the fact social interactions here are the same as in real life, but with the veil of anonymity and distance between you and others. In real life, you can sort of tell what someone may think of you through their body language, interactions with others, etc. Online, that's much harder to estimate. You will have people pretending to be on good terms with you while talking behind your back with their clique. The more influential they are, the more likely they will turn others away from you. They will project their own insecurities on you (without telling you, of course) and will see you as a threat to their status in the rpc. Highschool drama behaviour but make it adult version, I'm not joking. I wish I were.

Granted, there are people who don't fall into that category. Those people are kind, genuine and will remain friends with you for years to come. Some of them you'll meet in person, some of them will be continents away but you'll hear with them daily, some of them will get to know the real you and you'll get to know them too. I hope you have as many of these encounters as possible.

Goes without saying, but treat others the way you want to be treated. However, do know when to draw the line once your trust has been betrayed. You're worth more than suffering someone's betrayals over and over again. Forgive them like Doffy does (block their ass don't use bullets). Additionally, don't let others and especially tumblr to determine YOUR self worth. I've seen this way too many times over three years I've had this blog, but people (much like with any social media) get focused on number of likes, notes and comments on their posts. If they have more, they're instantly worth more, and if they have less, then something must be wrong. Some people even post about the lower activity on their posts as if it's a big deal. Point being, don't seek validation through something as small as notes on a website. That's the most insulting thing you can do to yourself. Do your thing, write your posts and headcanons unapologetically, without worrying if there are notes or not. You make posts for yourself, not others.

This may all seem harsh and as if you need to guard your heart and not let anyone in. Keep a safe distance, so to speak. You can do that, for sure. However, I'm not trying to make you distrustful and paranoid of everyone here, just to be able to evaluate situations before they escalate (because you will find yourself in one of many mentioned scenarios. You just will, this is tumblr) or to properly evaluate people you're in contact with. Social media is messy, you will get a fruit basket in which you'll have good and rotten fruit alike. You just need to sort them out and throw away the ones which are bad for your mindset, ergo the need to not be naive.

Also, remember that you're easily manipulated. Age has nothing to do with that, people are easy to manipulate. Just like that someone might influence people to not write with you, or get to write with people they want because they've noticed you're friends with someone they like, the same can happen to you. You might be someone they'll try to keep away from those they paint as problematic. You might be someone they'll want by their side. You might be someone they don't want to share with others.

Keep a cool head on your shoulders, think critically, remember that screenshots they share with you are carefully chosen bits of conversations that can be interpreted the way they want, remember there are two sides of the story. I'm not telling you to go and play detective to find out the truth, that would be a waste of your time. My advice, stay out of it. Don't put one over the other, don't pick sides. It's not your mess to clean.

Final last piece of advice, don't trust blindly. I'm not saying to not trust others, just to not do it blindly. There's a difference. Trust is built over time and everything you read is not bulletproof. Good people will invest in the relationships with you and build that trust (source: trust me).

To demonstrate my point: your question. You hold me in high enough esteem to ask for my opinion and advice. You don't know what type of person I am, you don't know my motivation for answering it either. I may be doing it out of kindness of my heart and wish to make sure you don't suffer from tumblr trauma like many people before you, maybe I actually want to spread paranoia online and enjoy the misery, maybe I just want to feed my ego because I know some of my mutuals will read this, leave likes and comments and maybe agree with me. Maybe it's none of the above and the reason is a mystery.

So you've probably noticed that despite submissions officially closing on Friday, it is now well into Saturday.

Let me explain.

Originally, I decided to make the hard deadline midnight Pacific Standard Time, since I know based on when activity peaks on this blog that a lot of you seem to live on the west coast, and wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to put in last minute submissions. But then I stayed up tumbling down the Fate rabbit hole, and because it's a Saturday I overslept until noon. Also, someone asked me what my pronouns were a while back, and despite that being a one-word answer for reasons I can't explain that answer ended up being 2500+ words, and then I fell asleep in the bathtub and forgot to put out the announcement clarifying the new deadline, or queue any overnight polls.

So this is the NEW deadline.

Submissions will now close at MIDNIGHT, PACIFIC STANDARD TIME, FOR REAL.

...until I oversleep and forget to close it again, so it will probably still be open after that. But when I do wake up, I'll close submissions INSTANTLY. But if you do manage to sneak in a little in overtime, I won't blame you, and they'll still be eligible for the bracket.

The struggles of being an airhead.

The winner of the poll ended up being Hellmo - but I've decided that I can't bring myself to change it. As stupid as it sounds, I've unironically grown so attached to this Astolfo avatar that I genuinely can't bring myself to change it; now that I've gotten so used to it representing me on this blog, the idea of changing it now is heartbreaking to me.

It doesn't help - and I'm being 100% serious - Astolfo was unironically my actual idol when I was a teenager, despite me knowing absolutely nothing about Fate. There's some backstory there which I won't get into now, but I was secretly overjoyed when someone actually suggested them as an avatar, even though it was in literally the weirdest way possible and didn't even relate to 'hot takes' in any way. I didn't say any of that because I didn't want to influence the results, but I will admit that secretly I was really hoping they would win, as unlikely as it was - which is why I decided to use them as an avatar for the short time I had left before the poll closed, knowing they would be swept and that I would be devastated when I did have to change it.

So, I know I said I would abide by the results of every poll, no matter what - it's literally one of the main rules of the blog - but just once I am going to break that rule.

Instead, I'm going to make the Hellmo picture the blog header - I really hope you can at least understand why I'm doing this, and I'm genuinely so, so sorry for letting you guys down like this. I know I've let you guys down before, and I can't apologise enough.

Secondly, I know I've massively overshared on this blog before, and now that I know it might happen again - sometimes I start writing and the words just keep pouring out onto the page - I've decided to start using the tag #h-t-t backstory for those posts if I ever do make another. Those posts might relate to mental health and similar issues, potentially including substance abuse. And I know a lot of you guys don't want to see that, so absolutely feel free to block that tag.
