howdy fellas! i guess it's that time of year again

i'm sure all of you that have been following me for a while are sick of hearing about everything i've gone through over the past interminably long year of my life, and i'm really sorry about that... believe me, i'm sick of it too lol. anyway that's why i don't always talk a lot on here at the moment, because i'm worried about answering too many asks and coming across as annoying.

the truth is, just recently, things have finally hit a place that i can at least describe as "fairly stable." i'm hopeful i'll soon be able to afford to go to an IT place and get my files rescued, which will be a godsend for me. i'm really relieved about all of this obviously, and i keep thinking about making a post because i'm so excited to think about being able to jump right back in. but i've held myself back from telling you all that hopefully things will start moving again soon because i'm anxious about overpromising and don't want to disappoint any of you guys (any more than i already have).

if it makes any of you feel any better, i have no plans to stop writing damnation even if all of you unfollow me and i'm just writing it for myself XD i just needed to. you know. get a house and food first. so. hopefully i'll have proper good news for you all soon!

I’ll agree to disagree. Zarbon was formidable. Vegeta underestimated him, he transformed, he beat Vegeta up but didn’t kill him. Frieza was disappointed in him, but in the short amount of screen time he had in all of his appearances we learn a lot:

He was highly intelligent.

His avoidance of transforming most of the time reveals that the man had been holding back for decades if not centuries. The Raging Blast games imply it was ‘eons’.

Zarbon is a Prince, and despite being regarded as a narcissist unlike Vegeta he isn’t flaunting that title like some shiny badge.

Outside of…Dead Zone? I think? Zarbon is the first to showcase a transformation that isn’t a giant form.

And unlike the Saiyans he takes on a different appearance.

There was depth to his character, his on screen kill count is low, he was shown to be pragmatic and rather humane.

But…he was scared. Frieza threatened to kill him. That threw him off his game.

I think had Zarbon took a moment to process and clear his head he would have beaten Vegeta again. However, I still don’t think he would have killed him…I think he would have turned on Frieza.

Sure he said Frieza-sama in the Japanese version but…

If you had been saying that for decades it’s kinda hard to break the habit. I would give him the benefit of the doubt.

He’s not stupid, I think he was serious about betraying Frieza because think about it..

He served a man who had different values from him out of fear.

Zarb was pragmatic, he just wanted to take care of the source of the problem and leave everything else alone - Frieza didn’t agree.

Unlike the others the boy had a genuine look of sadness and shock when Frieza was quite happy to go through with Planet Vegeta’s destruction.

He is my favourite because there is so many layers to him. He wasn’t in the series long but he’s just so interesting. His race is unique, his personality feels unique. His fighting style was unique too. If anyone had to be revived I hope it’s either Raditz or Zarbon as those two could have been redeemed and they could have joined the Z-Fighters.

He is morally grey, but, Vegeta was down right cruel and could be redeemed. Zarbon had shown evidence of redeeming qualities in all forms of media (wanting peace, worried about Frieza gaining more power, he was self aware, with Dodoria showed remorse and shock when Planet Vegeta was blown up) and he certainly didn’t turn around and kill his closest friend/father figure. (Let’s face it, Nappa basically raised Vegeta and probably Raditz too).

Zarbon isn’t perfect, but that’s what I like to see. He had shortcomings, he was fearful but not a coward, he had phobias, but he also tried to do his job without all the collateral damage and he genuinely cares. He was shocked hearing of Dodoria dying, he gets pissy when alternate timeline Frieza starts insulting him and his ‘star subordinate’, he shows that he’s capable of jealousy and he can be thankful and apologetic.

I understand he’s branded as a narcissist because he thinks he’s beautiful but so many of his traits contradict NPD. He is empathetic, he doesn’t put himself or his own gain above others, he can take accountability for his failures. It seems more so that the other in verse characters place those traits onto him - such as when they expect that Zarbon is only using the future warrior as a slave or to do his dirty work - but he doesn’t.

“You need only watch.” - doesn’t necessarily want help from his student.

“Excellent, I’d much rather spend time with you.” - actually enjoys spending time with his student.

“This session was deeply moving for me. It would not have been possible had we not met.” - can be interpreted in several ways. However; it sounds like a bond is developing.

“I welcome any and all who know how to conduct themselves.” - this is said to a Saiyan, implies that his detest is by person, not an entire race.

“You handled yourself pretty well out there too. My compliments.” - he is always handing out praise to his student. But not just them, there are soldiers on the ship who sound so happy that Zarbon compliments them unlike Frieza and Dodoria.

“Magnificent! You’ve done well to come this far! You’ve done your instructor proud!” - again, actually being happy for his student.

“I am dazzled by your radiance!” - this is just showing more and more depth to this man. I get Zarbon is entitled but he’s a Prince, they’re all a bit entitled.

Also I notice in this fight he will throw himself in front of the future warrior several times. He always gets knocked out every time I do this fight as he won’t let the player get hurt - every other mentor I’ve done this with tends to make it to the end on all versions of the game but Zarbon really puts his neck out there for the player. Whether it’s a glitch in the AI or not; I don’t know. But, it plays into his characterisation.

Anyway I went on a ramble, but why Zarbon? So many reasons. The more lore they add; the more I like him. He’s a complex character in my opinion.

The taxidermy thing is mainly a joke, stemming from how in canon Pages says, without an ounce of irony, that it would like to taxidermy someone it likes. Naturally I must make jokes about Briar taxidermying pages before it taxidermies her !

In all seriousness, briar is immortal because she drinks immortal juice and that tends to mess ppl up after a while. Also uh a stint with red honey contributes to this, which is its own bag of worms. She’s already got an unhealthy attachment to Pages. And Pages, in canon (in the dating sim at least) hints that it would kill the player character if they broke up with it. So you’ve got one casually cruel obsessive possessive control freak villain bat, and one morally deteriorated immortal who is also an obsessive possessive control freak. They’re in love your honor

However, Briar loses more of her humanity as more time passes. Being the muzzled dog that she is, she bites (sometimes literally lol) and out of resentment/abandonment issues/fear, she’ll one day bite the hand that feeds her and have to be put down, if you get my drift

If you're like me in being, shall we say, skeptical of the NGSW program, what do you think would need to change about the XM7 to make it viable? I have a hard time thinking of any fixes that don't make it worse in some other area.

It's an expensive game of restless rifle syndrome, combined with another ammo debate. The US military has been chasing its tail since Korea.

30-06 gave way to .308 (actually the colder 7.62x51) which gave way to .223 (actually the hotter 5.56) because logistics matters more than lethality. You can't save money on a more engineered killshot if you still need 20,000 rounds of suppressing fire to get that killshot. The FBI made the same mistake with 10mm > .40 S&W > 9mm. Some highway patrols split the difference between .40 and 9mm and carry .357 SIG so they can "punch through car doors". I don't have the heart to tell them .22 lr will punch through a car door.

The XM7 is just a DMR with a 13-inch barrel. Not hating on DMRs. Right tool for the right job and all that. Would have been nice to not take Fallujah veterans with carbines, head-to-toe armor, and humvees and throw them into the mountains of Afghanistan. If you're gonna foreverwar, at least do it right.

India has the AK-203 replacing the INSAS for regular line infantry, and the SIG 716i Tread is being issued to mountaineer units. That makes sense. Proposing a standard issue battle rifle to replace the M4 demonstrates a level of ineptitude that borders on the imbecilic. We already had this talk with the FAL, G3, M14, and AR-10 (et. al.)

The rifle is the size, shape, and dimension of a Longshot Nerf Blaster on Viagra, so good luck getting in and out of a vehicle smoothly. Also, two charging handles?? Just keep the one that doesn't need a dust cover. What, were the attachments not heavy enough?

Speaking of attachments: the military deliberately overgasses their guns to fight through mud and blood, so have fun with the can on front pepperblasting the shooter with tasty carcinogens with every shot. Also, didn't you just tell me about gas pistons and suppressors being front heavy?

And the smart optic? Thousands of bucks per unit of scope is, I assume, supposed to replace thousands of bucks of ammo on the shooting range. The difference being practice can't be looted off of a dead troop, but a scope can (assuming Pvt Snafu didn't already break the damn thing).

All of this for a weapon system that may go the way of the G11, the XM8, the OICW, and whatever gun shot those flechette rounds. The legacy of the whole program will be an already-made video by Forgotten Weapons at best, and a bankrupting, grunt-killing quagmire at worst.

Overall, the military is too many chefs, the broth is fubar, and I'm glad they all suck at management and retention because the DOD's next target isn't Russia, China, Palestine, or whatever South American country the Washington Post is writing op-eds about. Their next target is American citizens.

In my mind it would be MCs idea, both boys secretly hoping for it but they have too much respect for her to actually ask. I think she would realize she can't be with Ominis in a sexual way without loving him the way she loves Sebastian.

Sebastian would be more than okay with MC dating them both, having a slight gay awakening (one with absolutely no panic because he lives for just doing whatever feels right to him) over his growing feelings for his best friend. Although lets be real, I think we can all agree Seb was never really straight to begin with, he just didn't know it yet.

Ominis would feel the most reserved about dating MC while she is with Sebastian, but ultimately gets over it the deeper he falls for MC and he learns to see his love for Sebastian as more then just friendship as well.

And I've just realized I basically told you the plot for my next few chapters of Sharing is Caring. Oops. 😂

god minnie, i’m so happy you brought up the burden of being. i’ve been sad bc i’ve missed being caught up in a story the way that the burden of being had me.

but you can rest easy. they do get back together :) i actually don’t imagine osamu gaining back all his memories to be honest. there are some things that come back to him, i think the bavo-kun memory is one of them because it’s one of the most recent ones but for the most part, he does navigate reconnecting with reader and all the members of hyogo ward instinctually.

it’s kind of like when you show up to a family reunion and you have all these aunties and uncles saying they knew you when you were this tall. that kind of thing. like he knows these people have been involved in his life some way or another and that he’s meant to be kind and receptive to their generosity. but truly, he cannot place them in his mind prior to remeeting them again.

osamu initially loves her like it is second nature. he cannot explicitly say why he does. he just knows, deep down, in his heart and soul and body, that he does. he loves her. it does make for difficult courtship in the beginning but they are able to restart their relationship as two absolutely different people. because reader from the beginning of the burden of being is absolutely different than the one from the end. the same, obviously goes for osamu.

osamu also never goes back to cooking for a living! he does enjoy it as a side hobby, but he ends up staying on his pro volleyball path. he does leave msby after his falling out with atsumu and i think he finds himself on a division 2 league. he’s still good but a lot of time had passed since he’d taken a break and part of the reason he got a position of a division 1 team is because of atsumu.

akaashi ends up owning o.mo.ide all on his own. reader eventually hands over the restaurant solely to him and she does find her cushy it job so she can continue to spoil osamu just like she wished.

What made you ship it? - They both have very strong chemistry between each other - both Sam and Raiden. I just looked at a few pictures and memes on google, and they made me realize that Sam and Raiden definitely should be together. It also became my comfort pairing, so I could distance myself from my own toxic relationship (fortunately, it is over now). Who would have known that in the end, SamuRaiden and mgr fandom changed my life for good? After so many years of feeling pathetic, feeling that I was not worthy to exist, these two blorbos brought me back to life. I have people to share my thoughts and love about Sam and Raiden, I received so much feedback I never had before. Moreover, I met my bf thanks to this fandom and the pairing, it is more than anything I ever wanted. This means the world to me. Thinking about them being together, loving each other helps me to get distracted from my own self-deprecation.

What are your favorite things about the ship? - Their dynamic, the possibilities of various romance scenarios or even mgr2 plot. Sam and Raiden are so different yet have so much in common, including being rivals who try to fight for different ideals. Sam's charisma is very strong, yet I feel that he has a very deep trauma behind it. It is more of my hcs, and I can relate to him in my own way, considering how I love his theme song that basically opens him up as a character who chose the wrong side. And I see him as a protagonist, more than Raiden, about whom, btw I had a very erroneous view. Fortunately, after playing MGR and MGS2 I know him better. He is a broken man, who may never recover from everything he has been through. If his ambitions require destroying the world - he may go for it, that is why I feel that Sam may be the only one who could stop it. Raiden is an anti-hero, who is not easy to "tame" if I may say so. Yet, I feel that Sam could handle that because he has been through that himself (I presume). This ship may be toxic from different perspectives, but I want it to be healthy and so that characters could heal by complementing each other and teaming up to achieve common goals.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I don't really know what are the popular opinions about these two. My take is that I probably want to partially avoid Raiden's "unhealthy and toxic" side that would ruin everything because of him acting like an asshole (not the Ripper, rather just the situations when he acts like this) because it feels threatening to me personally. I want him to work through it and be better than this and reach to Sam as much as he reaches to him. So that he would feel more "human" than an augmented cyborg. In my fanfic I question a lot of what is it like to be a human and feel such simple things as love or sympathy (which Raiden never had). I want Raiden to experience it, to endure it as much as Sam. I also want to see his more soft and vulnerable side, when he lets Sam care about him. And the most important, to put the whole relationship in a more realistic perspective, where it is not perfect, where they both have their fears and problems, but they find the strength to carry on together.

Raiden is strong, but inside he is a scared and broken child. He does not know any other ways to protect himself, he is impulsive, filled with anger and hatred towards everyone and everything. He needs psychological help and guidance.

To sum up: SamuRaiden is a ship that changed my life. I love it with my whole heart and I want to think that the love between these two helped them to overcome their demons and have a healthy and more or less happy life. Like what happened to me.

AlexDes (Alex Mercer x Desmond Miles) - Assassin's Creed x Prototype Crossover

What made you ship it? - It was long time ago. I saw some pictures with both of them and it made me melt. I could never imagine that it is possible to make a crossover with hooded guys :D They also made me play Assassin's Creed series and Prototype. Desmond had to become an assassin against his will. He is sick and tired of running away and he just wants to live a normal life. As for Alex..Well..Alex is not a human, he is a virus that took a form of a deceased scientist (as well as his memories). I thought it would be interesting to see how Desmond actually helps him to start everything over and gain more "human" side (again about this, I think I am into this topic too much). Alex is rude, cold and lacks empathy. He wants to know who he really is. His mystery would attract Desmond. They would have to escape their enemies together. That is what it makes this pairing unique to me.

What are your favorite things about this ship? - Alex getting them both into trouble and Desmond getting them out of it. Both of them looking for their purpose, questioning if they should save the world (AC3 ending) or leave it to die (I am not taking Prototype 2 into account because Alex is a complete antagonist in that game). Alex is entertained by Des, he tries to understand him. Also...He has some tendrils that could be used for different purposes... After overcoming some very hard obstacles, their bond just gets stronger and they fall for each other.

Unpopular opinion about this ship

When I was really hard into this ship, there was a part of the fandom who considered it is cool to put Desmond into horrible situations of being assaulted or "consumed" by Alex (I realize this only after all these years and I don't approve that part, fortunately, I haven't met anything connected with it lately). I hate that people try to portray Alex as a predator, and I would prefer not to see it anymore. Also, I don't see him as a bottom (another unpopular opinion).

In conclusion: ProtoCreed has a special place in my heart because it was one of the first fandom ships I got into and produced the content very actively before the end of 2012. I still have some feelings for them, yet I wanna put this ship into more "mature" perspective and make more interesting and realistic scenarios of their relationship development. Many things changed from that old times and I don't really wanna come back there.

When I complain about "Continental philosophy" I'm mostly complaining about the mediocre reception of philosophy as done on the European continent in Anglophone countries. Which I think is best described a form of orientalist mysticism about... uh... Western Europe. Yeah. It's not even that there's anything particular about France itself, it's that if Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault, and Lacan hadn't been French, no American who calls themselves a "Continental philosopher" but has a non-tenure track position in Literary Studies at a state school in Kentucky would put on airs to take them seriously.

Who was your greatest love and why did you fall in love with them?

well, i'm aromantic and it's been a long time of trying to figure myself out and forcing myself into romantic relationships with the hope that i would just start feeling romantic love if i played the part and it just never worked. BUT my greatest love isn't romantic, it's platonic

the person i love most in this world is my best friend carly. i don't know a life without her because my parents moved in across the street from her parents' house when i was 9 months old and carly was 11 months and we grew up together. all the best moments of my childhood are tied to her. when i had to move 8 hours away from her when i was 10, we would call each other every single day for three hours. we fell out of doing that as we got busier and busier with school but whenever something big happens, the first thing we do is call each other. when i had to put one of my cats down because she was suffering, carly called me the moment she found out and just let me cry while she calmed me down. i did the same thing for her when her grandpa passed away (i was also very close with him from when we were growing up and i knew how much she needed that support). she and i wait up until midnight on each other's birthdays to be the first person to wish each other happy birthday.

she's my biggest supporter. she always called me "girly" and the moment i came out to her as a trans man she immediately switched to calling me "ry" or "love" instead and she knows me better than literally anyone else in the world. she's the one to always tell me she's proud of me and my ability to come to terms with myself. she never questions me on who i am, just tells me it's another way for her to love me.

i don't think there was a moment i realized i love her, i literally don't have memories of a time where i didn't love her. i call her my best friend but sometimes i call her my sister and everyone knows who i'm talking about (especially because i'm an only child)

i've spent 20 years (well, it will be 20 in september) loving her and i love her because she's a part of me that is intrinsically attached to my heart and i'm so proud of the woman she has grown into and i will love her well past my time on this plane of existence

You're definitely right! I've actually talked in passing with Steve stans, about this, and they tell me that "he developed in season 2", or funnily enough, most either don't recall season 1, they ignore it, or they haven't even watched it.

Which baffles my mind. They openly admit this, and then they proceed to talk shit about Billy.

This show is very clear about who it wants you to root for. Full offense, I could care less about the Wheelers.

Poor writing, and to get away with it for so long, is a crime.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but Steve never fully developed. He never apologized to Jonathan or Nancy. Sure, there was the bathroom scene with Robin. But Robin was a new character. Jonathan and Nancy were in season 1 with Steve. That's on the writers. I'll add it to the tab.

Billy actually apologized, and he was literally fucking dying. Honestly, though, I think it's odd that he's the only one getting shit on, that he should apologize and all that... but he's one of the only characters who actually apologized! He would've apologized to others if he had fucking survived.

atla ask!! you might have mentioned it before, but if you could bend any element which would it be and why? including any cool sub techniques you would want to learn (or invent!) :3

Interesting question. I’m torn between fire bending and air bending. I don’t think I’d make a great water bender because I hate the cold (Though water bending has some cool powers like healing and blood bending), and I don’t think I’d make a great earth bender because I’m allergic to all kinds of grass and trees.

So between air bending and fire bending, it’s difficult to say. On the one hand, I get cold easily, and fire bending would be a nice way to stay warm, and you could use the fire like rockets to fly (like Azula does in season 3), plus the way you can make different colors with the fire is super cool. But with air bending, you can fly a lot more easily, and gliding around looks like so much fun, and I think it fits my personality more (plus it would be so much fun to stim by jumping up and floating through the air). Not sure if there are sub techniques I’d be interested in, but with the fire, lightening bending would be super cool. I suppose one question I could ask is whether you think fire or air fits me better, but it would for sure be between those two.
