“Chan, you said you wouldn’t.”

“I know but I just couldn’t let him go like that. He hurt you and god knows however many other girls out there.”

“But you could have gotten caught, either by the cops or Kyunghoon. We have enough crazy with my parents, can we not bring in more crazy rich people?” I scolded.

“I’m sorry… but I don’t regret it either,” He apologized.

      As I looked at the boy next to me I knew I couldn’t stay mad, I never could with anyone. Plus everything he did was with good intentions… for the most part. I was just scared he could’ve gotten caught or hurt or both! With a sigh I grabbed his hand as I watched the road ahead of me. It’s time to be more honest about things.

“Thank you for doing that for me anyways… and I’m not mad, I just don’t like the idea of you possibly getting into trouble because of me.”

“Hey,” he stopped in his tracks which forced me to stop and look at him. “None of this is your fault, don’t blame yourself for it. Plus Seunghee was helping so I didn’t get caught.”

“But you did, by me. That’s what you get for recruiting my best friend who also lives with me,” I stuck my tongue out at him.

“In my defense she recruited herself, she said your plan sucked.”

“She only said that because it didn’t involve physically hurting him.”

“Then that kinda is a sucky plan,” he laughs.

“Stop being cheeky,” I scrunch my nose with a smile before a question that had been floating around in my mind made itself known. “I’ve been thinking about something. How did you know it was me when you picked me up that night?”

“Your tattoo,” he pointed to my left collarbone where my heartbeat tattoo peeked from beneath my sweater, “I’m guessing the rain washed the makeup off.” 

“Awwww and here I thought it would be a cute answer,” I joke.

“What? Did you want to hear that I looked into your eyes and just knew that it was you?”

      He teased back as he opened the restaurant door. We continued to poke fun at each other as we took our seats and ordered our food. It felt nice, actually acting like a couple without the blurred lines we had when we first started talking. Now that everything is out it felt refreshing to expand my circle a little more. It was inevitable for me to fear the future when my parents were part of the equation but Chan being who he is, helping me when I was desperate, and getting revenge for me gave me more confidence that we could get through the hurdle that is my parents… that I could get through it.

“Now who’s the one not listening?”

“Huh? Sorry, I was too busy thinking about you,” I gave a cheeky smile.

“Well stop that, I’m right in front of you,” he laughed as he grabbed my hand from across the table. “I asked how you ended up finding out from Seunghee.”

“I came in to ask for outfit advice for our date. I thought she was watching a movie but when I came closer I noticed it was security camera footage and I noticed a certain someone neither of us liked on screen and a familiar silhouette of another certain someone.”

“You recognized me by my silhouette?”

“It’s not that shocking Chan, you work at a club. I basically fell for you because of your silhouette and the brief flashes of your face I saw when the light hit it just right.”

“What? You didn’t fall for my charming personality? Wow I see how it is,” he teased.

“Like you fell for my shining personality and not the fact that the first time you saw me I was in a very revealing mesh top and a miniskirt?” I countered with a smirk.

“Of course. Look, you can easily keep up with me and my antics. I was a goner once you didn’t give me a name. Isn’t that right princess?”

“Ugh noooo, that was so cringey and don’t start with the nicknames Christopher.”

“But you like being called princess don’t you? Or do you prefer something else, like baby girl,” he smirked.

“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you actually did that.”

      I laughed, using my hand to cover my face in hopes that Chan didn’t catch the blush burning on my cheeks. Luckily even if he did the waitress brought out our food. We ate and were deciding on what to do next when his phone buzzed. After a few exchanges he put it down and offered going to the club to meet his friends. Meeting his friends low key freaked me out but I have wanted to meet them properly after hearing the interesting stories Chan has told me. I was glad that Seunghee talked me into wearing my black sweater that laces up on the sleeves, giving my high waisted plaid skirt a sexier look fit for the club. Once we finished our dinner we hailed a cab and ended up back where it all began. Once we entered the club, Chan led me to a table with four guys sitting around it. There was Changbin, Felix, Jisung, and a new face I‘ve never met. I smiled at them all, letting Chan take the lead as he greeted the boys.

“Hey guys, thanks for letting me bring my girl.”

“No worries hyung, we’ve been dying to meet her,” Jisung said excitedly.

“Jisung, you’ve met her already,” Changbin teased. “Remember at my birthday party?”

“Huh… wait WHAT?!”

      I laughed as Jisung processed the sentence. I don’t know how but that boy was louder than the music in this club which was a feat in itself. With my courtesy smile I gave him at the party, I extended my hand before introducing myself.

“Hi, I’m Kwon Jieun.”

      I laughed as he wordlessly shook my hand, his eyes frozen in it’s wide state of shock. Chan then introduced me to everyone else and I learned the last guy was Minho, a university friend. We chatted over some drinks and I quickly eased into the group with little to no awkward tension. Thank god. I actually got on better with Changbin and Felix than I originally thought I would and it seemed it was the same way for the other boys as well.

“You’re pretty cool Jieun, I like this you better… not to be rude!” Felix commented before he panicked once he heard how it sounded as it left his lips.

“It’s fine Felix, I like this me a lot better too,” I laugh.

“But honestly though. If we knew you were this chill we could’ve been pretty good friends.”

“Changbin I wish, but I think you can agree with me that with secrets like mine, the smaller the circle the better.”

“I’ll drink to that.”

      Changbin, Felix and I clinked glasses in silent agreement before taking a swig of our drinks. I continued to drink and talk with the boys until I lost count of how much alcohol I consumed. It wasn’t until Chan took my drink from my lips that maybe I drank a little too much.

“Okay, that’s enough for you,” he chuckles.

“Hey! I wasn’t done with that,” I pouted and whined, “I want to keep up with the boys.”

“You’ve got a long way if you want to keep up with us,” Minho smirks.

“Can too!”

      I tried to reach for another drink but Chan stopped me once again which caused the other boys to chuckle at me. Chan was moving to grab our stuff as Changbin started teasing me.

“Hate to break it to you princess but you’re a lightweight.”

“Shhhhh, only Chan can call me that.”

“I think it’s time for us to go baby girl.”

      Chan shook his head as he helped me up. The boys were relentless when they heard the pet name fall from his lips, an onslaught of teasing was dropped before we said our goodbyes and left. Chan hailed a cab and gave the driver my address before we piled in.

“My place is farther than yours, why not let me stay at your place and save cab fare? It’s closer.”

“As much as I would love to have you come over again, you’re not sober and I don’t think Seunghee would appreciate it. Plus you have a morning class tomorrow and your place is closer to your campus,” he chuckles.

“I have class? Oh yeah… Wait! Before we get to my place we have to discuss this!”

“What is it?”

“Seunghee has to go back soon but before she leaves I want you to meet my friends.”

“Let’s discuss this when you’re sober.”

      He chuckled with a shake of his head, he isn’t taking me seriously. I cross my arms and turn to face him, making direct eye contact to make sure he knows I was being one hundred percent serious. I may be tipsy, probably more so drunk, but I know both sober me and drunk me agree that I want Chan to properly meet my friends. For one I met his and for me this was equal to meeting my family.

“No, I want to discuss this now. I’ve been thinking about it since we first talked with the guys and I was very sober then.”

“But I would like you to remember we made the plans.”

“Hey! I am very responsible, I take care of sober me very well, I’ll leave a note so I won’t forget to arrange it.”

“You’re a handful, you know that?” he chuckled.

“You said it didn’t you? Maybe being a handful is my true calling. You can’t be the only one having fun being the bad apple,” I laughed.

      We arranged a time to meet up before Seunghee’s flight back to the UK and by then the cab arrived at my apartment. Asking the cab to wait, Chan walked me back to the door and waited for me to go in. After I entered the door code and holding the door slightly open we bid each other good night. With every last bit of courage I had, liquid and not, I gently pulled Chan’s shoulder and crashed my lips on his. As quick as I did it  I pulled away giving him a final good night, my eyes taking in that goofy dimpled grin on his face as the door closed.

~~ 6 years before Chan, Woojin, and Minho find Bambam

“When are Jinyoung and Jaebum supposed to get back?” Hyunjin asks his mom. “They’ve been out all day and it’s starting to get dark.”

“The dark isn’t going to impede their landing. Go and spend time with Felix and Changbin. I’ll let you know when Jinyoung gets back,” Hyunjin’s mom says. Hyunjin does as told and sits near the couple. Felix hadn’t left Changbin’s side since they left the Capital. Changbin had been the only child to live in the palace other than the now dead Prince and Princess. He had lead Felix, Hyunjin, and Hyunjin’s family out of the palace grounds and to a ship they could take and felix had attached himself to the boy.

Changbin was a year older then Felix and Hyunjin and had been studying with the Prince and Princess and knew quite a bit about leading soldiers. He had organized the few people that had found them before they left into fighters. Not one of them had questioned a six year old telling them what to do at the time.

Seven years had gone by since the royal family died with the blood plague. The planet that had been infected was no longer quarantined but people still avoided it from fear. They didn’t want to possibly catch the mysterious plague that had taken out the entire population of the planet and caused the Union to be thrown into chaos as the dignitaries of the planets fought for the throne.

Changbin began singing to Felix when he noticed Felix shaking again. Felix was asleep and probably having a nightmare. He had lots of nightmares after his parents got arrested in front of him while the others escaped. He didn’t know if they were still alive and the thought of them dying scared him.

Just then Jinyoung appeared right in front of Hyunjin. He had little purple marks around his eyes and a frantic look on his face. Hyunjin screamed and ried to get away. He had to be dreaming. This had to be a nightmare.

“Shhhhh.” Jinyoung covered Hyunjin’s mouth and looked over to Changbin and Felix. Felix was still sound asleep and Changbin wasn’t looking at them. “Hyunjin, I don’t have time to explain, but I need to leave. The others won’t like it if Jaebum and I return with our new marks. We need to leave.” Jinyoung pulls Hyunjin to his feet. He begins gathering Hyunjins things. “Please, Hyunjin, come with me.”

Hyunjin doesn’t say anything. He stares at his brother in horror. How could this happen to his family? Hyunjin had listened to the adults when they thought he was asleep. The mark ones had started the blood plague and if they were allowed to live free they would do it again until everyone was either dead or one of them. How could Jinyoung have joined them?

“Hyunjin, please, you can’t believe what anyone says about the marked ones. No one chooses to be a marked one. Please, come with me.” Jinyoung pleads with Hyunjin. His eyes are filling with tears.

“Mom!” Hyunjin shouts. Jinyoung’s eyes go wide in fear. Changbin looks over at the two and realizes Jinyoung is there. Felix wakes up and screams when Jinyoung turns to them. Hyunjin’s mom runs into the room and sees her oldest with the marks around his eyes. The look of betrayal on her face makes Jinyoung teleport away. That’s the last time Hyunjin saw his brother. He never heard from him again.

Years pass and Hyunjin wonders what would have happened if he had gone with Jinyoung. Would he have begun stealing with Changbin and Felix after the other survivors left? Would he have become a marked one? Would he have been arrested? Would he have ever discovered the Jisung and Minsun didn’t die?

“You doin ok?” Seungmin asks. He had come into the dining area to get a snack only to find Hyunjin staring blankly into an empty bowl. The only people to really know Hyunjin were the ones they rescued with him and they didn’t really talk about him much. Seungmin had heard plenty about Minsun, hell he heard enough to know exactly what she looked like, but he didn’t even know what exactly Hyunjin’s power was. Hyunjin had similar marks to Jeongin but he hadn’t once shown he could shapeshift even though his marks slowly spread and shifted everyday.

“I’m a mind reader,” Hyunjin snaps. “That’s why you never see me use my power. I can’t control when I read someone’s mind so my marks are always growing.” Seungmin stares at Hyunjin with wide eyes. “Sorry, your wondering was really loud. And to answer you question, I’m fine.”

“Are you sure? I know you have trouble with colors, and I don’t know if anything from your past might be bothering you, but if you tell me I can try to help.” Seungmin sits next to Hyunjin and places a hand on Hyunjin’s back.

“You ever do something so stupid you lose a family member?” Hyunjin tears up for the first time since his brother left. “Something so stupid you don’t even realise what you did until years later when there’s probably nothing you can do to fix it?”

“I used to be the captain of my ship. I had a 12 member crew. Each one of them was like family to me and I did something stupid enough that I lost all of them but Jeongin,” Seungmin says. “I can’t say I know what you’re going through though because Jeongin wouldn’t let me live it down until we found Chan, Woojin, and Minho.”

“My brother was on a supply run in one of our ships when Changbin, Felix, and I were still with the refugees of the palace. He and his boyfriend got hit with whatever give people these powers and He teleported back to our camp to get me to come with him. He knew what the adults said about the marked ones and knew he would be turned in if he had returned.” Hyunjin let the tears fall finally. “I was 12 and believed when the adults would say the marked ones were trying to make a second blood plague to kill all the normal people. I called our mother into the room and chased him away.” Seungmin pulled Hyunjin into a hug and held him there like he used to do with Jeongin. “I don’t even know if he’s still alive. Never got to tell him goodbye.”

“Shh, it’s ok. I’m sure he knows you didn’t mean it. And when we find the cure and Jisung is king, we’ll send out searches for him until we know for sure what happened.”

it made you doubt that he was just trying to be annoying by asking you out

a few hours passed and it was surprising pleasant

you even had a good time with him? laughing and making jokes and just talking normally 

it was a weird feeling now you were around him

when you did his face lit up like a million fairy lights

you excuse was because of the project which he just smirked at you

“well i look forward to debating with you ms y/l/n good day and farewell” sungwoon said dramatically with a deep bow

making you laugh 

and of course he added one last statement

you say goodbye then you get home

and in the middle of terrace is a table with two chairs and all your favourite foods on there

with a rose in a vase in the middle

and soft romantic music is playing in the background 

you gasp at the sight while sungwoon just smiles

“since it was our last day of the project i wanted to make it special and i know you told me that i shouldn’t ask you out anymore but i was hoping this could be a date with dinner and dancing. but like you can totally go if you don’t lik-” sungwoon gets cut off his sweet rambling

with you saying with a gorgeous smile and looking so so happy 

“sungwoon just kiss me” 

he gave you a mix between a smile and a smirk and leaned in 

your kiss was slow and passionate but extremely romantic 

as sungwoon held you close and you had your arms around his neck pulling him closer to you 

when you parted with heavy breaths and sweet smiles

you met in high school 

you know that guy that’s always carrying an instrument with them everywhere 

yeah that’s Jaehwan with his guitar, but he actually hasn’t been in a music class since 1st year 

claims ‘they didn’t appreciate his creative genius' 

 really he passed with a B and felt some type of way because he gave A+ effort 

Catch him the courtyard at lunch having a mini concert sometimes Sewoon is there with him. 

 And you, out of the kindness of your heart, are on the sidelines cheering him on and being his personal camera man 

just kidding, he pays you in snacks and foods in exchange for some quality camera work so he can post it on YouTube 

anyways but you and Jaehwan have always had classes together 

so you were casual in-school-only friends 

until one day you decided to ask him to teach you guitar 

you received one for a birthday a while back and you’ve just never used it because you don’t know how until you remember you have someone who might be able to teach you 

and Jaehwan, will never admit it, but he loves to be praised and to show off his skills so he agrees to teach you 

so you exchange numbers and plan a date and time to meet 

you end up meeting at your house 

when the lesson begins, apparently your guitar is ‘horrendously out of tune' 

so you spend the first 15 minutes learning how to tune it properly 

now Jaehwan isn’t.. the best teacher 

he’s just very straight forward, it’s either you get or you don’t and if you don’t get it…..he literally has no idea how else to explain it to you cause it makes sense to him why don’t you understand???

so you continue to practice the chords he showed you for about an half an hour until you feel finger tips going numb 

you just set your guitar down sighing 'I need a break, I’m gonna make some ramen. Do you want some?' 

looks up from his guitar 'sure if it’s not too much trouble' 

and as you two eat you realize you have a lot more in common then you originally thought 'oh god I hated that teacher, I forgot you were in the same class as me then'

Eventually, he has to leave but you agree to meet up again the next week and after that it sudden became a ritual to meet up ever once or twice a week out of school

you both just enjoy each other’s company and can talk about the most random things for hours 

he’d always bring his guitar when you two hang out but after a while you kind of stop bringing yours (because you’ve secretly been getting real lessons from Sewoon, shhhhh)  and if you’re over his house you just end up watching Netflix or playing video games 

probably calls or texts you in the middle of the night to ask your opinion on song lyrics

you wake up next morning with messages saying how he’s never gonna ask for your help again. Dramatic™

somehow always knows when you’re not happy 

willing to give you your space and not push you if you don’t want to talk but won’t let it drag on 

will barge into you home with your favorite snacks and sit with you until you’re ready to talk about it

sometimes he’ll just strum his guitar to combat the silence or he’ll let you lay your head in his lap to comfort you  

acts like he doesn’t care most of the time but actually really loves all his friends and just wants to see them all living well and happy (( Tsundere af))
