WIP: Lumberjack & Pine
- @the-best-of-the-geeks asked and here I answer!
- this posts addresses: Ooh the road trip, right? Who’s your darling and what’s your favourite little fact about them? What’s your favourite moment you’ve written, if that’s not a spoiler?
- @katiehahnbooks, (@ anyone lmk if you want on the L&P tag list)
- feel free to ask more stuff, clearly I don’t know how to shut up 😂
★ Ooh the road trip, right?
Indeed! And I’ve spent the last few days aggressively outlining so that the roadtrippyness is a heavy factor in the unfolding of plot. I’d considered making the road trip less the focus and instead give attention to the little town where Jack & Pine meet the first time, then meet again. but. I’ve done the hokey pokey and turned it all about, so it’s back to living up to this all roads lead back to you thing. So, again, yeah. Much road trip. I’ve even tweaked it so we get dual POV!
★ Who’s your darling and what’s your favourite little fact about them?
Moose is quickly endearing himself to me. One fun thing is that he’s never gone on a road trip! I haven’t substantiated his motivations for joining in, but he’s having a great time. With the dual POVs, we get in the car with both groups: Jack/Kit/Moose and Chester/Pine/Sam. So all the side characters are getting a little more love than I expected, but it’s as they deserve.
My favorite fact about him so far is that he’s up for anything and really enthusiastic about it. It’s only because he’s with his sister and a woman who may as well be, but that excitement changes the whole dynamic of the trip compared to what Jack and Kit are used to. For the better. He’s very wholesome. The whole wip is.
★ What’s your favourite moment you’ve written, if that’s not a spoiler?
We’ve previously established that I give exactly zero h*cks about spoilers because everything I’m throwing out there is subject to change until the final draft is complete, and also because I just don’t care—we all know I can’t avoid a happy ending and I’ve given away my otp(+)s repeatedly so your guesses don’t even have to be wild to come near my targets.
Anyway. I’m running a spoiler-full blog here.
My favorite moment isn’t actually written yet, just plotted out, but I’m gonna pick this one anyway! So. The story is set two summers after Jack and Pine first meet. Moose has never actually heard the whole story before. But now that he’s in the party, he’s privy to weirdly intimate shit about his sister, and Kit too for that matter. So there’s a whole thing about both Jack and Pine’s respective groups pitstopping in the town where they all met.
(fresh update: they miss each other this summer too, but don’t lose hope because they cross paths elsewhere)
Moose has been blogging the whole travel experience across social media from day one. When they stop in this town, he pulls out his phone and starts recounting the short version of his sister meeting her lady love while trailing Kit and Jack (who’s playfully glaring but gave him permission to be a dork on camera). He embellishes some, and generally tailors it to be humorous, only roasting Jack a little for even coming back here because he cares and wants her happy. And that’s it! That’s the moment! Just Moose being dumb and what I think is a really fun way to drop in exposition.
