Dev camp scrimmage!!!
Matty vs. Shane faceoff!
(Matty won.)
3 on 3 is so fucking fun, everyone’s just playing their little hearts out. We watched the goalies taking practice first and they kind of stacked the deck by giving Matty’s team the best goalie… they beat Shane’s team 4-0 in the first game. Shane’s team did come back to beat them 2-0 in the last game though. (One of those was Matty’s fault, he let Luke Henman get by him and Matty was NOT happy with himself. Glad good boy Luke Henman got a goal though.)
I love Ty Nelson, dude plays with flair and is not afraid to take a risk. He and Matty scored on a couple of really good give and gos. The two of them and David Goyette were basically unstoppable. That combo scored on a slick little pass Matty sent from behind the goal and you could tell Matty was super proud of that one, pumping his fist and heading straight to the bench for adulation.
Fun contrast though: they did get scored on once and you could see Ty kind of blaming himself and apologizing to Matty about it, and Matty was clearly communicating it wasn’t a big deal and not to worry. (That’s my future captain, hard on himself but not his teammates!)
I adore my ugly little purse dog Jagger Firkus. He and Shane Wright were really good together, lots of seemingly impossible passes connecting.
Of my Big 10 boys, Justin Janicke looked good. Ar one point he picked the puck out from under two other players and they looked completely confused about where it went. Tyson Jugnauth is less noticeable, but he’s got great hair and we love a Wisconsin boy anyway.
At the end Shane Wright signed his contract on the ice and we got to watch him yeet his first fish!!!!
it was a bad throw, sorry. I was close enough to scramble for it but obviously I was not going to compete with a child for Shane Wright’s salmon.
