Not to stir any pot but we say 'romantic or platonic they're soulmates' and yes but the thing is they were soulmates from the beginning but it's been 6 years and they've built them up to such interwoven lives that no other romance actually fits?? They've BECOME what the other needs in a partner simply by growing and shifting around each other?? If the show had given either of them a character who was half as interesting or interested as they are with each other, it could work. But that hasn't happened really. These two committed to each other in their very first episode. You need that level of freak to match. So yeah they could very well exist platonically maybe but the universe is conspiring very loudly.

THIS IS WHAT I MEAAANNNNNNNN. like honestly this is why pre-s7 i didn't particularly care about buddie canon (i care now in the pettiest way possible......... and because it seems like a possibility.....) because. well. it's clear that no matter what they are ALWAYS going to write buck and eddie as being unhinged about each other because the 911 writers are obsessed with them in some kind of way. unfortunately that means that i don't think there's any room for romance that's not them because i really do not think they're going to give buddie up for anyone else 😭
