Timeless AU Sans and Asriel! 🫡
I was going to color them but I'm mildly afraid my roommate will come back and I am not about to try and explain... this. So, temporarily take these sketches!
Tumblr media
With a bonus full-family wip! (I need to make Gaster smaller/thinner but y'know--)
In this au, Gaster isn't killed in the core accident, and so he's present for the major tragedies that would normally follow his death. And subsequently is able to fix some of the problems! One being Asriel's death and transformation into Flowey.
Gaster, who was working on making a monster from almost scratch (his soul was too weak to form another soul but he wanted a kid and yadda yadda), successfully created Sans. After a bit of studying Sans' growth, Gaster was practically able to revive Asriel. Asriel is older than Sans by a few years as his 'death' made him miss a few.
And during this process, Gaster also managed to rizz up Asgore by complete accident. They'd always been close, even before the war, but Asgore was to be king, and he was already betroathed to Tori at birth, so Gaster was content being by Asgore's side as a friend. Buttttttt Toriel leaving for the ruins in her grief left the door wide-open for Asgore to finally make a move on Gaster. They never officially marry, but literally everyone outside the ruins is aware that the two are together.
Asriel remembers very little of his death, but he remembers Chara, and he remembers the surface. Asgore and Gaster don't hide the fact that Asriel died from him, and one day Azzy got up the courage to ask Gaster if he could bring back Chara too. Gaster hadn't even thought about it, but he figured that without Chara's body he wouldn't be able to revive them in any meaningful way. Azzy doesn't give up hope, but he doesn't bother Gaster about it anymore.
Azzy is a gentle soul, shy and playful. He's not used to being an older sibling, and he misses his mom, but he likes his new family too. He often trips and falls, resulting in the bandaid scattered on his body, and he loves to farm just like Asgore, so he usually wears overalls.
Sans is Gaster's oldest son by magic-line. He's punny, a prankster, and the more confident between himself and Asriel. If they're out of their element, Sans is the one to forge through the path and laugh while doing it! Gaster can't get him to wear shoes ("You and Dad and Azzy don't, so why should I?" Is usually his rebuttle. No one can really argue it.) So he's usually seen only wearing socks.
Papyrus (who is only a few scribbles in Gaster's arms rn) is the youngest and doesn't really get the same chances as Sans and Azzy do as older kids, but he'll grow to be the most rambunctious of all of them. I think Papy is self-conscious when he's young (what if he's not good enough? Sans is so good at science stuff like Papa, and Asriel is a great prince like Dad, so where does that leave him?) But he ends up training in combat with Asriel before meeting Undyne and deciding he wants to be part of the royal guard! (That way he can protect his 1 hp brother and his Princely brother!) Undyne and him are quick friends.
Actually, since I'm on a role: Asriel keeps studying and learning from his dad on how to be a prince. Honestly, he likes what Sans and his Pops are up to a lot more, but he doesn't mind being Future King. (He sneaks into the lab to watch the two do their studies whenever he can.) Meanwhile Sans works with Gaster in the labs! He's a fast learner and loves the work, but everyone can see just how much more natural he is with social science. He understands the political theory Asriel tells him and Sans can dissect exactly wtf it means and why Asriel has to react the way he does. Sans still ends up being the Judge, but largely keeps his focuses to the Lab with his pops abd Alphys. And Papy is certainly Great. He ends up as co-captain of the Royal Guard. He's not quite as personable as Undyne, but he sure is committed, and has direct ties to the royal family. More often than not, when he's not doing his rounds or helping with training, he's Azzy's personal guard.
And yes, this does mean incoming 20-ish Asriel, 19-ish Sans, and 17-ish Paps designs are incoming eventually! Asgore and Gaster get to see their sons grow up!!!

[WoT] (kinda)
mor undertale (neutral & true pacifist ending spoilers probably)
I stayed up last night and finished true pacifist :)
Ummm so ah. TRUE LAB. HELL NAH. OH my god that was awful- I usually play fullscreen but I just couldn't, and made it tiny windowed. Also played without audio for a while.. Maybe it was a mistake doing true lab for the first time at 12am...
But anyways, I did it- I'm not sure if that's Flowey talking in the elevator once you're done with true lab? It makes sense, but I don't know. Eh probably. I also thought it was kinda ooooo that after the Alphys "date", when Papyrus calls, he starts with "Howdy! If it isn't my good friend, who trusts me!" Like. Man. I know Papyrus thinks they're friends, but still this feels.. I dunno? Wrong? I guess? It sounds a bit more like Flowey talking to the protagonist, but liike... the protag's feelings towards Papyrus?
Anyway- so true pacifist was pretty cool! I wonder, does Flowey just hang out with the rest of the characters on the surface? I saw some of the qna's, and if they're set after true pacifist, that's interesting.
I thought I had more to say but eh not really. It was cool.
Here is me getting hit by almost every lightning strike the first time I saw this attack. I'm sooo good at this game.
You're supposed to go AWAY from the indicators!! Not into them!!!!
OH I mentioned before that Papyrus is my favourite character, maybe? Uh I don't remember. Anyways, HE IS. Love that guy. But. Issue. What the hell is going on with him in Deltarune- now I need to know dude and auuuuugh
My brain seems to love to do this thing where it finds two characters or fandoms or content creators to become obsessed with the WEEK BEFORE MIDTERMS OR FINALS. It ALWAYS happens and it's so annoying lol- So yeah... I've been thinking about undertale instead of studying for the past week.. my brain doesn't really like me I don't think

Would you mind giving me some links or maybe just some explanations for why flowey and papyrus' friendship isnt abusive? I'd like to make a more in-depth post of it on my own but I dont really know where to start
uuuh, okay. Salt dump incoming, please brace yourself—
Can I just say there's no canon evidence that it is abusive?
I don't really feel like elaborating on how it's canon that Flowey likes Papyrus, since this post already covers it, also I'm sure that's not where the most contention comes from
Instead, I'll focus on why Flowey isn't an abusive friend. Which is it would go against his entire character for him to be one.
Flowey is canonically a young child whose biggest motive and wish, besides getting to the SOULs, is to be reunited with his best friend. Friendship is intensely important to both his character arc and Undertale's theme.
I've talked about it here how Flowey is most likely inexperienced when it comes to making friends, and a lot of it was spoken from my own experience as a lonely, sensitive child when I was younger. The thing is, making friends is a skill you work at, and when you haven't had many friends you a) are clueless about approaching friendships for lack of practice, b) tend to develop very intense and even codependent friendships, c) are scared of losing the few friendships you do have, and that's where people-pleasing tendencies come from. You have trouble setting up boundaries and saying no.
Note how Flowey's idea of making friends defaults to "solving all their problems flawlessly".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, what does he do when he believes Chara came back?
He helps them. He solves the puzzles for them, clears the way for them. Tries to be the most helpful partner, because that's what being friends is to him.
And judging by what Sans says, he's doing the exact same for Papyrus.
Tumblr media
And that's not yet getting to just how important he considers friendship to be! And how he has standards for it!
He tells you that he can't be your friend because he (believes that he) can't care about you, like a friend should! He's upset that his mom's friends left her in the garage, it's a mean thing to do and he can't believe she's still calling them her friends afterwards!
I would seriously ask the opposite question: Why on earth are people insisting that Flowey is abusive to Papyrus (because it's never the other way around)? Why would a kid character who's lonely and longs for friendship, who sees friendship as a sacred, important thing, be an abusive friend to his favorite person?
Are they forgetting how you only really win the Omega Flowey fight by showing him kindness? Are they forgetting how you only really win the Asriel fight by showing him kindness, and reminding him of his own kindness in turn, after which he loses the will to fight? Papyrus is the one character who would show you kindness even on the worst route. Wouldn't it make more sense to see that connection and say, hey, Papyrus is the first one to give Flowey what he really needs, even when he didn't ask for it, which is kindness and patience, and that's part of why Flowey likes him?
I was also going to say how, even though Papyrus is also lonely and insecure, he does a much better job at setting boundaries and doesn't let people talk shit about him, but I'm out of brain power here

Here you have a literal essay on why "Waiting on a Miracle" from Encanto suits Papyrus:
"Don't be upset or mad at all, Don't feel regret or sad at all"
It could be Papyrus telling himself to stay upbeat and confident so everyone will like him.
"Hey, I'm still part of the family Madrigal. And I'm fine, I'm totally fine. I will stand on the side as you shine. ... I'm not fine... I'm not fine."
Papyrus trying to convince himself he's still great and is OK. The "you" could be Sans since he is much more popular than his brother. Papyrus stands to the side as Sans is known by the whole town while he is referred as "That skeleton"/ "Sans's brother".
I can't move the mountains. I can't make the flowers bloom. I can't take another night up in my room. Waiting on a miracle. I can't heal what's broken. Can't control the morning rain or a hurricane. Can't keep down the unspoken invisible pain. Always waiting on a miracle, a miracle
Compared to Undyne the Undying and Sans's genocide fight; some people don't see Papyrus as very powerful. He doesn't seem to have/ show the abilities Sans has on the Genocide route which is the reason he isn't as popular in Fandom content.
Always walking alone. Always wanting for more. Like I'm still at that door longing to shine. Like all of you shine
He doesn't seem to have many friends and is very lonely. He wants to be popular and liked [the "more"]. The door could be Undyne's house where he meets her (at 12:00 a.m.) to ask for a positions in the guard.
All I need is a change. All I need is a chance. All I know is I can't stay on the side. Open your eyes, open your eyes, open your eyes
This could work 2 ways. First: he is tired of being pushed to the side and known only as that skeleton since no one besides Undyne and Flowey (kinda) [and possibly Doggo] bothered to get to know him. The open your eyes part makes me thing of him speaking to certain people in the Fandom who watered him down to a babified "cinnamon roll".
I would move the mountains. Make new trees and flowers grow. Someone please just let me know, where do I go?. I am waiting on a miracle, a miracle. I would heal what's broken. Show this family something new. Who I am inside, so what can I do?. I'm sick of waiting on a miracle, so here I go. I am ready, come on, I'm ready. I've been patient, and steadfast, and steady. Bless me now as you blessed us all those years ago. When you gave us a miracle. Am I too late for a miracle?
These last 2 verses are Papyrus being ready to give it his all to be well liked. It also foreshadows his desire to capture Frisk. The last line could be when he feels like he failed since he let the human go.
