Prompt: First meeting/I saw you crying

Notes: I kind of went a little overboard and used two of the three fanfic requests in one pfft. I hope you enjoy it, I sure enjoyed writing it!!

Naegi sighs gently. He was wandering around the school during lunch time. And unfortunately for him, he had forgotten his lunch. He knew if he went and sat with his usual friends they would give him we of their lunch. But he didn't want to bother them. He wasn't hungry anyway. 

Not much had happened on his walk, a few people came up and talked to him. But not many. Nargi was walking near the fountain when he could have sworn he heard small whimpers. 

Was there a kitten or a puppy? There seemed to be a lot of them nearby these days. He looked around his area. None that he could see. He began walking around the fountain. The whimpering and sniffling got louder and louder as Naegi got closer. Soon enough he found someone sitting on the ground, head in their arms. They must have heard Naegi's footsteps because they looked up at the boy. His eyes were big and full of tears.

"H-hey, I heard you crying… are you okay..?" Naegi was unsure of what to say. He wanted to help this boy, but didn't know how.

The boy looked away as he quickly wiped his years away.

"I-I'm just f-fine…" His voice was shakey. He was clearly not okay. Naegi crouched down next to him, getting a closer look at him. The boy had dark brown hair and was wearing a black suit, seeming to be some sort of uniform. The other boy took slight notice of Naegi now crouched next to him. He turned his head back to the younger male.

"I don't know you, and you don't know me. But maybe if you talk about it, it'll help?" Naegi tilted his head in a questioning manner. The older boy didn't seem convinced in the slightest. But he sighed, and said

"Well it couldn't hurt…" Naegi smiled softly at his reply. The other took no mind to it as he stared of into the distance. "Well… I'm a reserve course student.. I'm not- hic -talented like all the others.. like Nanami-san… sniffle sniff I don't deserve her kindness. I just wish I had a talent… I'd do anything for one.. I'm just poor talentless Hinata Hajime..." He sighed as he finished, making it even more clear he wasn't happy with his current situation.

Naegi took it all in, he himself had felt inadequate next to everyone else. He got in out of pure luck and everyone else was here because they deserved it. He placed a hand on the other's shoulder.

"You don't need a talent, Hinata-kun. I don't have a talent either. I got in out of pure luck. You deserve to be happy just like all the others. You have great characteristics to be proud of, I'm sure of it!" Naegi beamed at Hinata, who stared at him like he was insane. Naegi removed his hand and balled them up excitedly.

"You are worthy of love. Just because you don't have a talent, that doesn't mean you can't be loved or even liked. You have to have hope, Hinata-kun!!" He stood up, towering above the other ahoge-bearing teen. He held out his hand for him to grab. Hinata hesitantly grabbed it, bringing himself up to his feet. It turned out that Hinata was much taller than Naegi.

Naegi held out his arms, not wanting to make the other uncomfortable by hugging him. But also seeing if he did want the comfort from a hug. Hinata inches himself closer, wrapping his long arms around Naegi, and Naegi doing the same.

They stood there for awhile. 

And Hinata cried for longer on the shorter boy's shoulder, after Naegi convinced him that it was okay for him to cry. Soon enough Hinata pulled away.

"I'm sorry to have caused you so much trouble…"

Naegi shook his head furiously.

"No, no!!! It's alright!! I'm always happy to help people!"

Hinata looked awkward. He rubbed his right thumb over his left hand, trying to ease his nerves.

"Well uhmm… can I know your name to thank you..?"

Naegi takes a second to process what he said. 

"Ah!! Yeah sorry! I'm Naegi Makoto! Nice to properly meet you!" He grinned happily. Hinata have a small smile back.

"Yeah," he began. "Nice to meet you too, Naegi-kun. Thanks."

Naegi nodded.

"It's really nothing, but I think we'll become great friends!!" Hinata only chuckled and nodded in response.

Naegi waves goodbye as he leaves once lunch is over, he had stayed with him the rest of lunch. They had grew closer to each other. They even exchanged numbers to call and text on the phone.

A few hours after Naegi got home he sent Hinata a message.

Naegi Makoto : Hello, Hinata! This is Naegi! I hope you're doing better than from lunch!

On Hinata's side of things, he felt his phone buzz. He pulled it out of his pocket. He smiled gently and shook his head at the message he found.

Hinata Hajime : Thanks, Naegi. I'm doing much better now. Not perfect. But better.

Naegi Makoto : That's great!! We should hang out sometime, hanging out with people you like helps mental health!

Hinata Hajime : That'd be nice.

A few months went by, and they started hanging out lots. They even met each other's friends. Nanami was very nice and caring and Souda was… interesting. Naegi got closer to Nanami as well, she was good to talk to. Anyway, Hints and Naegi hung out quite a lot after school, they (tried) to help each other with homework, went out and got coffee some mornings during the weekend, etc. 

Just normal friend things.

…

...But then why did Naegi's heart always race around him..?

"Naegi-kun?"

Naegi basically screamed at the call of his name. He had been so lost I'm his thoughts and fantasies that he had forgotten he was sitting at lunch with Fujisaki, Owada, and Ishimaru.

The trio gave him a look of worry. Well. More so Fujisaki and Ishimaru.

"Naegi-kun! Are you okay? Your eyes look distant!!!" Ishimaru, loud as always. But considerate.

Naegi took a second to process what had happened.

"...Ah! Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking about something."

"W-what is it that you're thinking about to be so lost in thought?" Fujisaki asked timidly.

Naegi paused, he felt his heart begin to race and his cheeks warm up. Why were they doing that?

"My friend… uhm- Hinata Hajime."

Fujisaki looked like he was going to say something, but closed his mouth and shook his head, choosing not to say anything.

Naegi Makoto : Hey, can I talk to you about something? It's about Hinata

Nanami Chiaki : sure. what is it?

Naegi Makoto : So. Have you ever noticed how whenever Hinata smiles his eyes sparkle?

Naegi Makoto : Or how when he laughs he looks away and then back at you?

Naegi Makoto : And when he moves his hair out of his face he can never get the few strands out of his eyes.

Naegi Makoto : Or how he repositions his tie when he's nervous?

Nanami Chiaki : …

Nanami Chiaki : naegi…

Naegi Makoto : Yeah?

Nanami Chiaki : i think

Nanami Chiaki : you have a crush on hinata.

Naegi Makoto : Oh.

Naegi Makoto : Oh no.

Naegi Makoto : Oh fuxk.

Nanami Chiaki : don't curse

Naegi Makoto : Sorry, Nanami.

Naegi took a deep breath. It had been over a month since he figured out he liked Hinata, thanks to Nanami. She had somehow convinced him to tell Hinata. She even canceled her and Hinata's lunch gaming thing that day so he could confess.

"Do you really think this is a good idea, Nanami-san? What if I mess up, or if I-"

She put her hand on Naegi's shoulder, and gave a small smile.

"...You're going to do fine. Just go and do it. It'd be rude to go back now."

Naegi supposed it would be rude if he candles now… he nodded, Nanami letting go of his shoulder as he walked over to Hinata.

Hinata soon realized he was nearby and called out to him.

"Hey! Naegi-kun!"

Naegi could have sworn his cheeks were literally on fire by how hot they were.

"A-ah! Hey Hinata-kun, how-how are you?" Naegi smiled sheepishly up at Hinata, who was met with a smile of his own.

"I'm fine, thanks. Nanami-chan said you wanted to talk about something?"

Oh no. His heart was beating so fast he could hear it pounding in his ears. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea? His mind was racing. Words flooded out of his mouth before his mind even had a say in the matter.

"I-I really reall-really, really like you, Hinata-kun.. and-"

"I like you too, Naegi-kun! Was that all?"

Naegi shook his head. Hinata was really dense at times. He placed one of his hands hesitantly on Hinata's shoulder

"No, Hinata-kun. I mean I have a.. c-crush on you..."

Hinata took a few seconds to process what had just happened. Taking in the real reason why Nanami had canceled the gaming during lunch that day and why Naegi's face was so red and why Naegi kept stuttering so much.

"I..."

"I-I'm sorry- this was a bad idea, I think I should ta-take my leave now-"

Naegi turned to leave but Hinata grabbed his wrist before he could take three steps.

"N-no it's fine. I like you too."

Naegi smiled as tears began welling up in his eyes. He wrapped his arms around the taller male.

"H-hey!" Hinata basically squeaked. But Naegi didn't care. Hinata sighed and wrapped his own arms around him hesitantly.

Nanami nodded and pulled out her phone.

Kirigiri Kyouko : Thank god. I don't think I could have handled one more rant about how Naegi wouldn't be able to confess his feelings.
