Blur - Parklife
Someone told me once that there is no way to actually appreciate this album without having been a British middle class teenager at some point in your life. I understand the sentiment but I think they might have underestimated the universality of teenage angst. I think if you grew up in the lower middle class this album will just make sense to you. As a bonus the opening track Boys and Girls is somehow both a massive hit and one of the queerest songs I've ever heard from a cis guy.
Primal Scream - Screamadelica
This is probably my favorite psychedelic alternative blues rock dub house album. I joke but Primal Scream really do manage to weave all of these genres into a single album so cohesively that it's almost strange to think that they could be done separately. This album goes down easy, I really couldn't tell you how long it is because you just start listening to it and vibe out until it's done. A beautifully entrancing album.
2pac - All Eyez On Me
All Eyez On Me was the last album that Tupac Shakur released within his own lifetime. The socially conscious 2pac seen on previous albums is certainly still here, but the main subject matter has clearly evolved. Here we see him rapping about living in luxury and being triumphant. It is eerie to hear him talking about looking towards the future for the sake of those who didn't make it when you realize he'd be joining them in only a few months.
Pet Shop Boys - Actually
Wry wit and a sense of good fun with the synthesizer are the essence of Pet Shop Boys. I think I like this album. I've never really been able to get into Pet Shop Boys for whatever reason. Sometimes I catch a lyric that makes me smile. Sometimes a particular synth sound will pique my interest. Either way my attention has faded by the end of the song. I think this is one of those things that is good, but just not for me.
