Odaiba Memorial Day: My favourite things about Digimon
Since I didn’t cover this throughout Digiweek, I still thought to make a little compliation post for August 1st. I made a “Digidynamics masterpost” once, but the preferences keep shifting anyway.
When and how did you first discover Digimon? As previously mentioned, I watched Digimon Adventure in German as a kid when it first aired in the year 2000. I was just 9 years old and a die-hard Pokémon fan, so before even watching the first episode, I thought it’d be a cheap knockoff - but watched it regardless and before the first episode was even over, I had fallen head over heels in love. With the Digimon designs, the music, the children... I was completely hooked. I still remember asking my mom to print out character cards, which turned every single child and Digimon partner pink, because our printer was being difficult. I asked my dad to record episodes on VHS I couldn’t watch and up to these day, I can almost recite every single line in these four episodes by heart (it absolutely shouldn’t surprise you that 3/4 of these episodes were Koushirou centric, which is probably one of the main reasons why he became my favourite character back then). I also asked my dad to buy a magazine about the show for me, even though I didn’t even realize that it was a cheap translation from an originally American Dub version, but I didn’t even care that some of the contents (especially the included character studies for Taichi, Agumon, Koushirou and Tentomon) didn’t even make sense in a German context. I still own that magazine, by the way... Just like I own several plushes, Digivices...
Tumblr media
Two years later, when I was 11, when Tamers aired in Germany for the first time, I discovered the world of the internet and, as I mentioned in a previous post, I think I wouldn’t even have ended up in the anime fandom - or even returned to Digimon several years later -, if I hadn’t been majorly obsessed with Tamers back then. Starting to draw and write my own fanwork, having ships, etc. It was indeed a wonderful time.
What are your favourite Digimon songs? I have listed the majority of them - Japanese and German ones - here, as I still find myself singing along “Butterfly”... Time really flies.
What are your favourite seasons? A few years back, I definitely would have said Tamers, since it had such an amazing impact on me back in the day, but right now, I guess I’d only put it behind Digimon Adventure 01. I can’t even remember the exact reason why I fell back into the Adventure rabbit hole as intensely as I did at the beginning of 2021, but I did and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way. I actively only watched 01, 02, Tamers and Frontier, so I can’t say much about the other series, but if we include Tri and the 2020 reboot, the ranking might look like this at the moment:
Digimon Adventure 01
Digimon Tamers
Digimon Adventure 02
Digimon Frontier
Digimon Adventure 2020
Digimon Adventure Tri (would be higher if they had the consistent characterizations of the Stageplay)
Who are your favourite characters? Oof, tough call. I did compile a Digidynamics Masterpost once, parts of the rankings often change, but I may as well put them here for all four original seasons:
Digimon Adventure 01 (pretty consistent, though the ranking between 4 and 6 often changes):
Koushirou Izumi
Taichi Yagami
Sora Takenouchi
Hikari Yagami
Jyou Kidou
Takeru Takaishi
Mimi Tachikawa
Yamato Ishida
Digimon Adventure 02 (these are the ones that change the most, because everything past Daisuke completely depends on context and mood):
Ken Ichijouji
Daisuke Motomiya
Iori Hida
Hikari Yagami
Miyako Inoue
Takeru Takaishi
Digimon Tamers (basically Takato and Ruki share 2nd spot, I could never decide between my three children anyway):
Jenrya Lee
Takato Matsuda
Ruki Makino
Juri Katou
Shuichon Lee
Hirokazu Shiota
Kenta Kitagawa
Ryou Akiyama
Digimon Frontier (I have watched this the least, so the ranking changes basically every time I read new info, interesting meta, etc. I may not be as familiar with them as with the other three seasons, but I still got a soft spot for them).
Takuya Kanbara
Kouji Minamoto
Kouichi Kimura
Tomoki Himi
Izumi Orimoto
Junpei Shibayama
What are your favourite ships? See the Digidynamics Masterpost and this Shipping Poster, but if I HAD to make a Top 15, it’d probably look like this (right now):
Taichi/Koushirou
Taichi/Sora + Sora/Koushirou (Taikoura has taken over my heart, which I entirely blame @dutchforstrangers for :P)
Jenrya/Takato
Daisuke/Ken
Jyou/Yamato
Sora/Mimi
Miyako/Hikari
Jenrya/Ruki
Jyou/Mimi
Koushirou/Hikari
Mimi/Miyako
Ruki/Juri
Takuya/Kouji
Mimi/Meiko
Why do you love Digimon and why do you love it until now? This could be an entire post on its own, really, but to sum it all up as shortly as I can, Digimon is a series I always find myself coming back to. I definitely had others, more intense fandoms between 2003 and 2020 (including Bakuten Shoot Beyblade, One Piece and the football fandom especially). But there are just so many things about Digimon that are unique and wonderful and up to this day, I still find myself figuring out new content about it!
The characters are so interestingly crafted, they’re multidimensional and layered and I could spend hours upon hours analyzing them and their dynamics. The series isn’t afraid to tackle serious, mature and darker topics and even addresses mental health issues on several occasions and it still holds up to this day, referring to the first four seasons I watched back then - and still find myself rewatching today.
I am currently rewatching the German dub - which I have very fond memories of - as well as the Japanese original of Adventure 01, 02 and Tamers, I never thought I’d fall in love with an anime stageplay as much as I did with the one of Digimon Adventure Tri and the novels offered more characterization and lore than I ever assumed possible.
The sheer concept of having a Digimon partner, a soulmate on your own to guide and accompany you throughout your daily life has such a nostalgic, warm feeling to it, which I’m forever grateful for.
This fandom is so incredibly creative and the people I have so far interacted with - here and on discord - have been unbelievably supportive and kind and I feel very welcome here. Just a year ago, I was in a very bad place mentally - I used to love to draw as a kid and teenager, but lost that spirit somewhere along the way. Kinda how Taichi also lost his way in his late teens/early twenties and while I couldn’t really appreciate him when I was a kid, I definitely love and appreciate him a WHOLE lot today. I thoroughly fell in love all over again with his relationship with Koushirou (who I have also always related to), platonic or romantic, and I’m so happy that I found the urge to draw and write again because of them.
Digimon Adventure Tri - even if I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped for - was a trigger that slowly brought me back here and even if I still believe that the reboot wasn’t mean for people like me and can’t compare to its original in my opinion, I still enjoy engaging with this wonderful fandom on a weekly basis again.

Episode 20: You Really Do Hate Cats!
(CONTENT WARNING: This blog post contains discussion of phobias, child abuse, and people doing the worst thing to intensify those problems. Those things are in the show, I didn’t just bring them up out of nowhere.)
Tumblr media
Well, it’s that time again. Time to grab a balloon and tell my friends what I think of an episode of Ranma 1/2. We’re starting the first arc of season two with this episode, though oddly enough I feel like I mostly remember what stuff is going to happen in it. But maybe I don’t remember right? I’d love it if that is the case. Though...speaking of that...there is a certain character I have dreaded appearing in this series, and I’d hoped he wouldn’t appear for a while, but I checked and he appears this season. I...I thought I had more time. Oh well, let’s do this episode and I’ll worry about him when he gets here.
Tumblr media
Okay, well, for the most part, this episode is actually a lot better than I remember it being. As it turns out, some of the details mutated in my head in the decade since I last saw it, and I actually thought things were worse than they were.
The episode starts in the Kuno manor, where our favorite swordsman is practicing to once again fight Ranma Saotome. But he’s not alone, because for the first time we meet Kuno’s henchman, Sasuke. He’s a ninja, and he’ll do whatever Kuno tells him to do, but he probably won’t do it very well.
From there, we see Ranma’s dad is training him in stupid ways again, and they get back to the house to find Shampoo has mailed Ranma something from China: a pink cat. That’s a problem, because Ranma has a severe cat phobia. It’s not random, either, Genma directly created it. See, when Ranma was 6, Genma thought he should teach his son Cat Fu, which he heard about from an ancient martial arts manuscript. The way to teach it is to cover the disciple in fish sausage and through them into a room with starving cats.
Obviously, that just ended up traumatizing Ranma, and the very next page of the book would have told Genma that training someone that way is very stupid. Kasumi, drawing on the common misunderstandings people have about exposure therapy, thinks that just inviting a ton of cats to be around will help, but of course it doesn’t, it makes Ranma even more distressed. Sasuke is hiding under the floorboards though, and he runs off to tell Kuno about Ranma’s weakness.
At first, Kuno says something about how he could never cowardly use an opponent’s weakness to unfairly win, but then he still makes Sasuke tell him about it, because he can still use it to win in an honorable way. The plan they go for is pretty ridiculous: they leave a note in Ranma’s locker that Akane’s been kidnapped, and he has to go to the gym to save her. But Akane is standing next to Ranma as he reads the note, so he knows that’s not true.
He goes anyway out of curiosity, only to find Sasuke there dressed up as Akane. With the wrong color wig. Even though the trap keeps failing, Ranma walks into it anyway because he has nothing better to do, until he realizes what is going on: cats. But Ranma manages to fight the fear and pretend he’s okay, hoping to just take Akane out of there, but then it becomes clear Sasuke took the extra step of also bringing an enormous tiger.
That’s when we cut back to Genma and Kasumi, and the old man explains that he tried curing Ranma of his phobia, but his way of doing so was to just keep throwing him at hungry cats, only changing the type of food attached to his body. All of it just made the problem worse, but it also actually led to Ranma developing Cat Fu. When Ranma gets scared enough, his mind just let’s go and he mentally becomes a cat.
That happens in the basement of the school, making it easy for him to beat the tiger and escape, just in time to kick Kuno’s butt without even trying. But he doesn’t stop there, and starts running around the school still acting like a cat. Akane follows him just as the dads show up. Genma says the only way to break Ranma out of it when he was a kid was with the help of a kindly old lady, but she’s dead. So, Genma tries dressing up and doing it himself. That fails, so they try catnip, forgetting that Ranma just thinks he’s a cat, so the stuff doesn’t really affect him.
The situation does kind of solve itself, as Ranma doesn’t attack Akane, as she’s afraid of, but instead curls up in her lap to purr. The whole school is watching, so that’s embarrassing for her, but then he kisses her and she freezes for a second before throwing Ranma into the school pool. Oh, and the pink cat is watching and didn’t like that. The curse activating returns his brain to normal, and Ranma has no clue why he was thrown in a pool. Akane walks home, cursing Ranma for doing that, but sounding conflicted.
So, the big thing I misremembered about this episode was I thought Genma did all the cat stuff with 0 thoughts about how it would affect Ranma and not giving a crap how it affected his son. That is actually not the case, he’s clearly really torn up about the phobia, though he still says some bad stuff about Ranma being ‘unmanly’ for having a phobia. He even tried to cure Ranma, a few times. It’s just that, well, his actions still traumatized Ranma. Sufficient ignorance is indistinguishable from malice, as they say. Genma is still, on the whole, abusive to Ranma in my opinion, but he’s not as bad as he could have been, I have to admit.
This was also just a funny episode. The comedy largely worked, even if some of the jokes didn’t quite land. Kuno and Sasuke were especially good, and I found Ranma fighting his fear both humorous and kind of inspiring. The man has a hell of a willpower. Not going to lie, the Cat-Ranma just immediately going for Akane’s lap and then kissing her was cute, I really liked that. Of course, I’m a sucker for anything with them, so I’m an easy mark there.
It’s also interesting how this works as the first part of a large arc, because if you didn’t know that was the case I can imagine thinking this was just a standalone episode. The pink cat was the impetus for the plot, but it’s what will drive the coming episodes forward.
One thing I found annoying was how different the dub and sub were this time around, in terms of script. The dub had a lot more bashing of Ranma for being scared of cats, including from Akane. That isn’t in the subtitled version at all, and I thought the episode worked a lot better there. I’m always a fan of taking liberties with a localization in order to make the story work better in the new country, but I don’t think we needed Akane insulting Ranma for his trauma.
Tumblr media
Hey, a Character Spotlight again! Haven’t had one of these in a bit, and this one is for Sasuke Sarugakure. Let’s start with his voice actors. In the English dub, he’s voiced by Robert O. Smith. Does that name sound familiar? It should, I talked about him recently, since he’s the one who voiced Genma Saotome in the dub as well. His voice for Sasuke is extremely comedic, going for an over-the-top pathetic voice. He makes Sasuke just sound like comic relief, which he is. What’s interesting is what the other actor does with him.
In Japanese, he’s played by Shigeru Chiba, another voice actor from this show in Japan who is just known for a billion things. Standouts include Buggy the Clown in One Piece, Emperor Pilaf and Raditz in the Dragon Ball franchise, and dubbing over John de Lancie as Discord in the Japanese dub of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I was completely shocked to hear him play Sasuke with more gravitas, using a very serious voice that one would expect from a ninja, which clashed perfectly with the situations and his character design to make the comedy far better than in the dub. One of those rare times I’m actually preferring the Japanese version!
As a character, Sasuke is interesting because he’s not in the manga at all. For reasons none seem to know, the creative team for the anime decided to delay introducing minor character Hikaru Gosenkugi, and replaced him with Sasuke. We’ll get to Hikaru when he appears, but I don’t really mind Sasuke’s addition to the show. Giving Kuno a henchman just makes his dynamic even better, and there’s something I just really like to Sasuke’s almost naive way of trying to plot and scheme. I don’t actually have any deep analysis, at least not as of yet, just wanted to give him a moment in the Spotlight for being something interesting.
Tumblr media
I didn’t expect to like this episode so much! It wasn’t great, there were parts I didn’t care for, but on the whole I’m happy to see my expectations overcome. I’m putting this episode in the middle of the pack, at the #10 slot. It was fun, but it has a lot of better episodes when it comes to making me smile. (Or cry.)

Note
So, for the ask thing... would it be okay to ask you to just do all of them?
Second time something like this has happened to me. Alright then, here goes
1: Which series is your favourite?
Dragon Ball Z. It has my favourite saga (Buu), best villain (Frieza), many of the best characters and moments, and just the sheer scale of it. The original Dragon Ball is great too, but the first half of it feels kind of lacking to me, and while Super has a lot going for it, it doesn’t match either series all the way through. DBZ is a series i just absolutely love all the way through (Even with the clunky filler in places).
2: Who is your favourite character?
Goku.
3: List your top five favourite characters in order of how much you like them
Uh, how much I like certain characters compared to others tends to fluctuate, but currently i think it would go something like this:
1) Goku
2) Gohan
3) Piccolo
4) Vegeta
5) Frieza
4: Who is your least favourite character?
It’s kind of a tie between Oolong, General Blue, Broly, GT Pan, GT Gogeta and Super 17. I can’t really think of an order for them, i just know i don’t like either of them.
5: Who is your favourite villain?
Frieza. He’s probably my favourite anime villain in general
6: Which saga is your favourite?
Probably the Buu saga. It has some issues (I really don’t like Gotenks too much), but i just find it so much fun to watch for the most part and it was a fantastic way to end DBZ.
7: Which saga is your least favourite?
I have a hard time deciding between the Super 17 and Shadow Dragons sagas, honestly. On the one hand, Super 17 is BY FAR the most boring saga the franchise has ever had, and rivals the Broly movies for most lifeless and boring Dragon Ball stories. Although the Shadow Dragons saga has a lot more stuff that outright ticks me off. So, tough call really.
8: Do you have a favourite episode from the anime/chapter from the manga?
Don’t think I have a singular favourite, but the entire finale to the Buu Saga with Goku and Vegeta fighting Kid Buu and forming the spirit bomb would probably win out.
9: What is your favourite fight?
Goku vs Piccolo from the original dragon ball.
Goku vs Vegeta from dbz
Either Goku vs Hit or the first fight between Goku and Jiren in Super
10: The Dragon Ball series isn’t exactly known for being consistent with its story, its characters, and various other things. Which inconsistency irritates you the most?
Eh, I don’t know honestly. I don’t tend to think of that stuff too hard.
11: Have you seen any of the films? If so, which one is your favorite?
Seen most of them. And Battle of Gods is my favourite. I re-watch it all the time.
12: How  long have you been watching/reading the Dragon Ball series?
It feels like it’s just almost always been there for me, honestly. Probably since around either 2001 or 2002, whenever it first started airing here in the UK. I don’t really remember, but i watched it since the first episode of DBZ onwards, i can tell you that.
13: Have you played any of the games?
Played the 2 Xenoverse games and I’m currently playing FighterZ. I’m planning to get Dragon Ball fusions at some point, and I’ve played at least one more i can’t remember the name of.
14: Do you own any merch?
Used to, i think they got thrown out along with most of my old toys when i moved back in with dad after mum died, or just got lost to time. I had a dbz pencil case in primary school, i remember that (It had Launch on it alongside the rest of the Z cast. Which i only really noticed after I’d watched some of the original Dragon Ball, funnily enough). I’m planning to get some merch at some point, whenever i feel like spending money on it rather than dvds, comics and games.
15: Do you have any favorite ships (canon or otherwise)?
Hanvi and K18 are my favs by far, always have been. Non canon would probably be Caulifla and Kale… and maybe Pan and Bulla when they’re older, I’ve been mulling that over in my head lately
16: Which anime opening is your favorite?
It’s a tie between the original Dragon Ball’s funimation opening, Limit Breaker x Survivor, and DBZ’s Japanese opening.
17: Which anime ending is your favourite?
*Shrugs* Either the English one for the original dragon ball, or Haruka from Super.
18: What is your opinion of GT?
It’s boring and awful and I hate it. I don’t feel like talking at length about it, people usually shout at me when I do even when I try to be reasonable about it.
19: What is your opinion of Super?
It’s a big mess, but a darn enjoyable one. I’ll probably go into this more in a later post when the series is about to end or is already over.
20: If you could hang out with one character, who would it be?
Android 17, maybe. i’d love to just take a walk with him around his island and just talk about all the animals there.
21: Which Bulma hairstyle is your favorite?
I’m fond of the original ponytail look myself.
22: Do you prefer the sub or the dub?
Already answered this in a previous post. It’s dub though, if you’re wondering
23: What is your favourite technique?
Hit’s time skip abilities. They’re just so freaking cool!!
24: If you could write your own episode, what would it be about?
Also answered in that previous post. Either a Pride Troopers centric episode or Majin Buu babysitting Pan
25: What would you wish for with the dragon balls?
Assuming I get only one wish because it’s Shenron before Dende upgraded him to three at a time? I’d probably wish for a hundred billion pounds, redistribute all but a single billion of it to various charities and giving the rest away to poor people around the world, plus all my on and off-line friends and family. I'd use the remaining billion to live the rest of my life in the lap of luxury without ever having to worry about work or anything.
If I got three? I’d still do the hundred billion wish, but I’d also wish for world peace, and use the last wish to repair as much of the ecological damage done to the planet in the last hundred years as possible with just one wish.

Rules:
1. Post the rules 2. Answer the questions given to you by the tagger 3. Write 11 questions of your own 4. And tag 11 people
I was tagged by @onceabluemoonwrites
1. What is your second favourite fandom?
Umm.... I’m not certain? I don’t really rank the fandoms I’m in, so I don’t have a “second favorite”. I have several favorites, each of which hold a special place in my heart, but I wouldn’t be able to rank them.
2. Any lesser known shows/manga/anime/books everybody needs to know about?
GHOST HUNT AND NURARIHYON NO MAGO.
Ghost Hunt has to be my favorite supernatural horror anime ever, bar maybe Tokyo Ghoul. It follows the story of Taniyama Mai as she becomes the assistant to Shibuya “Naru the Narcissist” Kazuya, young psychic researcher and professional Ghost Hunter. They, along with a wacky cast consisting of a medium, a pritest, a preistess, a monk, and an omnyouji, solve a variety of different cases of the supernatural. It’s an awesome show, and the amount of research the author of the novels put into everything is crazy. Most of the show is accurate to real life psychic research, which is something that really impresses me. It’s not afraid to touch on issues that other shows wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole, either. All in all, I highly recommend it, and send you off to watch (or read!) it, with a warning to stay away from the dub. Mai’s voice in the dub is really annoying.
Nurarihyon no Mago is another really awesome one that I really wish people would watch. It follows the story of Nura Rikuo, the mostly human grandson of the yokai Nurarihyon, and heir to Nurarihyon’s clan, the largest yokai yakuza in all of Japan. The issue? Rikuo wants nothing to do with his yokai blood, preferring to stick to the human side of things. Through a series of events, Rikuo learns to accept who and what he is. It’s an awesome series with lots of references to japanese folklore and traditions, and I wholeheartedly recommend that you read it as soon as you can.
3. Ghibli or Disney?
Ghibli all the way.
4. Why Ghibli/Disney?
I’ve always loved the way that Ghibli animates things. Their movies are always so beautiful to see, it’s like watching a work of art in motion. But more than that, the type of story they animate appeals to me more than Disney. I would much rather watch a movie about a young hat maker cursed into being an old woman fall in love with a wizard than watch a movie about a princess. Disney movies are great, I’m not going to deny that, but they’ve always been aimed more at a younger audience, which makes them awkward to watch now that I’m older. Ghibli movies have never had that stigma for me, and since their stories are the ones I tend to like more... Well. There’s not much more to say, is there?
5. Favorite flower?
I don’t have one? I don’t really have favorites with that sort of thing, but if I really had to pick, the I’d say chrysanthemum.
6. What makes you ship something?
Ohhh that’s a difficult question to answer. I ship different things for different reasons, usually becuase someone made me see that their dynamic works in a relationship. I don’t ship that many things, actually, and there are only two ships I can think off of the top of my head that I ever had a moment where I went “Wow. Those two. I ship them.” Those ships were 1827 and TodoDeku.
I had a moment, when reading the manga for KHR, where I was reading that scene in the Shimon arc where Hibari was fighting Adel. Tsuna was asking Hibari why he was fighting so hard, for Tsuna, and Hibari’s response is what made me ship them. “It is because there is a sky that the clouds can float freely. And someday, I will bite even the sky itself.” It just... hit me. Tsuna gives Hibari a home. He gives Hibari a place to come back to and rest whenever Hibari gets tired or bored of wandering around. Tsuna doesn’t try to constrain HIbari, or try to tell him what to do. He respects Hibari and his boundaries, and that line-- I’m not sure how to explain it. It just clicked, and I’ve shipped them ever since.
TodoDeku was the second ship where I had a moment like that. Before the sports festival arc, I never really noticed Todoroki. He was just one of the background characters, and I wasn’t even able to remember his name half the time. I was too focused on other things to pay attention to him. Then the sports festival arc started, and he came to the forefront of things, and I learned more about his past, and that’s when I started liking him. I didn’t ship him with anyone, but I liked him. But then-- “It’s your power, isn’t it?” That line. That scene. With the flashbacks and the fire appearing and Endeavor in the background and Izuku’s expression and Todoroki’s reaction--All of it. It was glorious. And that is what made me ship TodoDeku. Even more so with the interactions they had after that--with Stain’s fight and everything else, I just--adkfgfksyfef.
I have other things I ship, too. I ship HashiMada because that’s the way they’re written, really. It’s an epic bromance that borders on romance, and it’s not hard to believe they could have been lovers. I ship KaneHide because they support each other and help each other and mean so much to each other. I doubt there are very many things they wouldn’t do for one another. I ship Rikuo and Kana. I ship Meliodas and Elizabeth. I ship Madoka and Homura. I ship Kaito and Shinichi The main theme in all this? I ship healthy ships. Ships where they build each other up and support one another and help each other overcome their fears. That doesn't mean I don’t have unhealthy ships too. I’ve shipped things for no other reason than the dynamic is fucked up, because those ships are real too, and sometimes I like indulging that dark part of me. But for the most part, the reason why I ship something is because it’s healthy.
7. Or WHO makes you ship things?
@blackkatmagic has made me ship things. They introduced me to the ship that is MadaTobi and I haven't been able to drag myself away from. @onceabluemoonwrites made me ship DinoXanxus. The author of “Stranger with a Gun” (I can’t for the life of me remember who that is) made me ship 8018.
8. Favorite book?
Difficult to say! I love the Harry Potter series, because that was pretty much my childhood. The Hobbit holds a special place in my heart because my dad used to read parts of it to me before I went to bed. I love the Dresden Files for it’s weird sense of humor. I love House of Many Ways, and the Anita Blake series has some really good books in it, too! I’m not sure which one I would call my favorite.
9. Most Annoying Sibling Award?
I have two siblings, a younger brother and a younger sister, and out of the both of them, I’d have to say my sister is the more annoying of the two. I get along fairly well with both of them, but my sister is the more outgoing of the two of them, and thus the more likely one to come annoy me. I still love them both, though.
10. Wooden floors vs. linoleum.
Wooden. More because it’s familiar than any other reason.
11. Who are you in the Cinnamon roll meme?
I’d be stuck somewhere between looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you and looks like a cinnamon roll and is actually a cinnamon roll. I’m general a nice person but if you go after anyone I care about then no one will find the body.
I never know who to tag for these sorts of things.... Lets just say I tag anyone and everyone who sees this post. If you feel like doing it, just say I tagged you!
My questions:
1. Dogs, Cats, both, or neither?
2. What’s your favorite Pokemon?
3. You have two weeks until the end of the world. What do you do?
4. Who was the worst teacher you’ve ever had?
5. What was the most frustrating thing you’ve ever had to do?
6. If you had one wish, what would that wish be?
7. What’s your favorite movie?
8. What’s your least favorite game?
9. Flying or super strength?
10. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
11. What’s your plan for the Zombie Apocalypse?

Thoughts on the “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” English dub. “Stardust Crusaders” episode one.
so yeah I wanted to create a distinction here given that the anime did the same thing. and we only have three episodes of this thing released to us. I have read that this was a test dub, but I have also read that they dubbed all of it and we just have not had it released. I know as recently as last month episode 26 of BT was aired in America so generally speaking Viz has been weird with how they’re handling this series. I know they announced special 30th anniversary Blu-Ray sets in Japan and its possible US audiences will receive something similar and that will give us the rest of the SDC dub. I know most fans don’t care about the English dubs, but personally I would like to watch it all. I just wish Viz wasn’t being so weird because these episodes were done in 2014 and all we have is three.
anyway I’m gonna try and squeeze out as much as I can from these episodes
the first person who speaks is one of the fishermen
I always did like the art style shift for SDC, it feels like they took the manga style from this arc when it was at its best (because if you look back on the earlier chapters, especially with Jotaro’s look, its clear Araki was working things out) and just put it in anime form
“hold on, wait. this is bizarre” that should be the tagline
I would make a Holy Diver reference right now, but everyone already beat me to it
Joe-turro Kujo
okay so when I first read the manga I said his name as Joe-tah-ro which I realize now is incorrect, but there’s something about how these people say it that still feels off
“seventeen years old 195cm tall” he’s 6′3. mommy’s large prince.
yeah that throw away line about his dad being a jazz musician on tour is all we ever learn of Sadao, like damn we knew more about Jolyne’s mother and Araki never gave her a name
Holy is voiced by Julie Ann Taylor who is Miss Haruna in the new Sailor Moon dub
also yeah I have seen her name written as Holy and Holly, I kinda prefer Holly but I am aware it should be Holy
I like how they explained why he’s called Jojo even though the Japanese audience this was made for would understand its because he’s Kujo Jotaro (meanwhile Josuke is called Jojo due to how his name can be read in Japanese and its never explained so you need to check Jojo wiki for that info)
I like how Holy is assuming Jotaro killed people, like damn woman no one said that
“by the way ma’am, I have to tell you your Japanese is really quite good” I’m sure it is
yeah I knew that line was gonna feel weird, but its funny they kept it anyway
the way Holy says Jotaro’s name is basically how I say it now, I only point it out because the way the prison guards said it still feels weird
BABY JOTARO
because if they didn’t show me he was once a child I would have never believed them
“nothing’s as good as your cooking Mom” why is this line always funny to me?
also Jotaro’s played by Matthew Mercer who was Demande in Sailor Moon, Levi in AOT, Law in OP, McCree in Overwatch, and Leon in Resident Evil
“SHUT UP! GET OUT OF MY FACE YOU BITCH!” ladies and gentlemen, the most iconic character of the entire series
as if this post isn’t long enough, I may as well say my general thoughts on Jotaro. I like him, but not as much as everyone else. he falls pretty low on my list when I rate my favorite Jojos and by the time we got to VA I was pretty sick of him. I do like him though, I swear his fans are so protective of him in a way that doesn’t feel necessary. I spoke to another blogger about him years ago and gave a very mild critique (I think I basically said I think him showing up in VA was unnecessary and it annoyed me) and they replied by saying “please don’t hate Jotaro”. I don’t! I bought his Medicos figure for crying out loud.
Jotaro in several ways is the perfect cool strong silent protagonist in shonen. in the nice hardcover copies of SDC Araki says Jotaro is what he considers his ideal hero as he feels heroes should carry some kind of weight and be a loner that doesn’t ask for glory. however I do think he goes against that trope in ways that are subtle but noticeable. he enjoys the companionship of his friends, he has a sense of humor, I would describe him as comically serious. the reason I don’t love him like everyone else ultimately is because he just isn’t my type.
also this is random but he was inspired by Clint Eastwood, I just wanted to say that
“seems I’ve been possessed by an evil spirit” that’s just your Stand you ignorant child
wait...how was Star Platinum able to bring him that stuff? its not like his Stand can just go to the corner store for him
“what the hell!? he’s reading Shonen Jump while listening to a radio!” the fiend!
mmmm the music
uuuuuhhhh.....at the end of episode 26 old Joseph still seemed to have an English accent but now he’s American?
Avdol!
oh no! Jotaro has been playing with toy cars and reading books! books you guys!
Holy tells Jotaro that’s his grandpa like he’s never met him
can we just appreciate how Extra Jotaro actually is?
sigh...so Avdol is being voiced by an actor named Chris Tergliafera who is Silva Zoldyck in HXH and Tanktop Tiger in OPM and he is white
they gave you a black man named Muhammad and you cast a white guy
its not like black voice actors don’t exist or anything, you hired one to play Esidisi
BEHOLD! SPICY CHICKEN!
I love this music
Staaaaar Platinuuuuum
can I just say I love that fandom started calling it Star Plat? its fun to say
HHHHHMMMM Star Platinum sounds suspiciously not like Matthew Mercer! yeah I still think its beyond stupid that they hired Patrick Seitz to voice Star Plat. the Stand is an extension of its user, its part of them so yes it should be voiced by the person playing the user. Daisuke Ono did both no problem, if they felt Matthew couldn’t ora ora properly then maybe they should have cast someone else.
also this makes the “same type of Stand” thing weirder given Patrick is Dio
so at least I can say my worries over them giving Avdol a fake African sounding accent were for nothing, that would have been a horrible idea
“the power Avdol has is exactly the same as your’s” really? point me to the scene where Star Plat could create fire
Jotaro calls his mom a bitch, the mom he went on a suicide mission to fight a hyper sexual vampire in Egypt to save. what a moron.
Araki has said he originally intended for the series to be a trilogy and it does show in SDC, but I’m happy it continued on afterwards
my favorite character gets like the worst Stand in the series, go figure
“this is my Stand! it can reveal far away visions and place them on film! the only downside is I have to bust a 30,000 yen camera every time I use it!” wow that must be like ten dollars
“Jotaro, Holy, have either of you ever taken the time to look carefully at the back of your necks?”
ah! Lisa Lisa reference! Araki never confirmed her death, so I’d like to think she kept on living and never aging so Josuke got to meet his hot young grandma
so nice of Dio to pose for Joseph’s photography
and there he is, the Big D himself, laying around shirtless in the dark as he should be
tune in next time for cherry boy and hot mama

BNHA ask: All of them you havent already done
hhhHHHHH YEEEES! ok this got really long so i put it under a read more!
1: What part of the anime/manga piqued your interest?tbh i watched it on a whim with one of my friends because we were bored and procrastinating on homework one night and we looked at the plot summary on crunchyroll and went “yeah sure!”
2: Did you think Midoriya would be a good protagonist in the first few chapters/episodes?yes!! immediately i loved him and only wanted the best for him; i have always thought that he makes a wonderful protag!
3: How do you think Midoriya’s conflict with Bakugou will end?not really sure! i just want them to be on good terms ;w;
4: What was your first reaction to Bakugou’s treatment towards Midoriya?i was not happy to say the least, but knew that his character would evolve :D
5: What do you think of All-Might as a hero?i love that man oh my god
6: Do you think that Midoriya deserved to get OFA?yes!!! are you kidding me??? he’s a good bean who just wants to help everyone!!
7: Aside from Midoriya, which character in the series do you think has had the most character development?iida and todoroki!!
8: Favorite unpopular character?i’m not 100% in-tune with the fandom so i can’t tell who is unpopular really so i may be wrong in saying mina and hagakure?
9: Favorite overall character?…. aizawa and uraraka
Pink: What are your main/favorite ships?midoriya/uraraka, midoriya/todoroki, aizawa/mic, kirishima/happiness and good fortune, endeavor/being alone and miserable forever
Blue: Do you have any NOTPs?any of the adults/any of the kids, endeavor/his wife or anyone else for that matter
Yellow: Favorite fanfiction about your OTP?i love all erasermic fanfics
Green: Any preferred rarepairs?not sure if they’re really rare, buuuut allerasermic, iida/todoroki, mic/all might, midnight/aizawa, aizawa/mic/midnight, midoriya/shinsou, uraraka/mina, kirishima/kaminari, jirou/kaminari, and jirou/momo are all very good and i love them
Purple: Do you have any works centered around your OTP?nah
Orange: Fluff or Angst?angst that ends in fluff is THE BEST!!!!
Red: What do you like the most about your favorite ship?the dynamics between the characters!
Turqoise: What do you hate about your favorite ship?canon can be unhelpful ;A;
Lavender: Does your ship get a lot of hate? If so, why?i’m not sure since i don’t really pay attention, but i certainly hope not? the fandom (or at least the small section i’m in) seems very relaxed about shipping!
Grey: Realistically speaking, will your ship ever become canon?one of them, maybe (midoriya/uraraka). i consider erasermic basically canon x3c
Pop: Do you think the “Dabi and Shouto are brothers” theory is true?i’m unsure, but it’s a good theory! it’d be really interesting, but dabi doesn’t look anything like shouto and the rest of the todoroki kids, so i’m on the fence :0
Indie: Opinions on the Traitor Kaminari theory?please no ;A; my heart can’t handle it
Punk: Opinions on the Traitor Kirishima theory?see above ;;;A;;;
Rock: What do you think of the “The doctor from Midoriya’s childhood is affiliated with the League Of Villains” theory? (in reference to this post)oh…. my god…. i’m stunned! i have never seen this particular theory before but WHOA WHOA WHOA! my mind is BLOWN!
Jazz: What do you think will happen now that Eri has been saved? look, i only know that eri exists because i am bad at blacklisting spoiler tags. i know she exists, but i have managed to avoid anything about her like her quirk, who she is in relation to everyone else, and what happens with her, so i’m not really sure! (i am not caught up with the manga since i mainly just watch the anime, btw)
11: Dekusquad or Bakusquad?both!!
12: Most underrated student?kouji hands down
13: Dadmight or Dadzawa?uhhh obviously BOTH! two dads are better than one
14: Whose quirk do you think is the most unique?aizawa, mineta, momo, kurogiri, jirou, midnight, sero, aaaand tokoyami
15: Aside from Midoriya, who do you think has the most potential to be #1 Hero?i believe in my kids and know they can all be great heroes, however, i want to say that iida, momo, todoroki, and bakugou are pretty high tier. as for who is #1 between them… it’s a good toss-up. :P
16: Should Mineta be replaced by Shinsou in the hero class?nah just add shinsou in. the more the merrier!! give aizawa more kids 2k18
17: Favorite student(s) outside of Class 1-A?shinsou and mei
18: Any HCs for the entirety of Class 1-A?each one of them has slipped up and called aizawa ‘dad’ once or twice. momo keeps a tally for each student in a notebook. hagakure, todoroki, midoriya, mina, and momo herself have slipped up the most. aizawa never flinches nor does he mind when this happens and is fully aware of the tally. he keeps his own mixed in with papers to grade and important files.
19: Do you remember their seating arrangement by heart?lmao nope (sorry kids!)
20: Which of the students do you think has the most potential to become a villain?i impulsively want to say bakugou, but when i actually think about it, i just can’t picture that?? the show (and manga that i’ve read) have made it a point to show and explain that he is a flawed, angry kid who does terrible things, but learns from people calling him out and losing and making mistakes and all that. so it just seems to whittle his characterization to bare bones by saying he might become a villain because of these things, ya know? so i guess the real answer is none of them XD
Techno: Favorite villain?kurogiri
Classical: Eight Precepts of Death or League of Villains?shhh i don’t know the first group so i gotta go with the league
Soul: Shigaraki or Chisaki?i don’t know who chisaki is but i absolutely do not want to choose shigaraki >>
Alternative: Most obnoxious villain?SHIGARAKI LMAO
Apple: Favorite popular HC?actual father dadzawa, esp when he adopts the kids with crappy family situations. c:
Strawberry: Who is your favorite pro-hero?aizawa, mic, all might, midnight, thirteen, gunhead, selkie
Banana: Which of the pro-heroes’ quirks fascinates you the most?mic’s!!! i relate!!! so much!!!
Cherry: Should Endeavor die like right nowYES. REST IN SMITHEREENS, ASSHOLE
Pear: What was your reaction to Todoroki’s backstory?i despised endeavor so, so much and wanted to adopt todoroki immediately. sorry endeavor, but he’s MY son now. it made me love that boy as much as i do and now i just want him happy and safe more than i did before learning his backstory
Kiwi: Should the BNHA girls get more spotlight/recognition?UH. DUH!!!!!!!!
Pineapple: What do you like the most about BNHA, as a whole?the wide range of characters!!! everyone is so cool and fascinating and there’s so many!
Watermelon: Dub or Sub?i love both! :D (tho i like mic’s japanese voice better since his entire thing with all the “YEAHHHHH!”s and other little english remarks he says makes more sense when he’s not already speaking 100% english. XD plus it’s higher and more… uhhh well, over-the-top in a good way!)
Coconut: How do you think Hokiroshi is doing, in terms of the plot?i love it so far! i’m having a great time watching and coming along for the ride and really look forward to season 3!
Blueberry: What makes BNHA unique from all the other shonen animes/mangas out there?the characters!!! both in design and personality and how the writing treats them, idk, it just feels different, ya feel?
