#i'm just nervous about how premade characters are different than my own ocs

This might just be an 11:30 PM burst of inspiration but... Gabriel in Hammer of the Gods actually might be the thing that makes me write fanfic for the first time in my life because oh my GOSH this MAN. He's so fucking funny and such a diva and definitely loves brainrot and is also bi and listens to hyperpop music and teases Cas and loves Sam and I have so many headcanons right now what do I do (write fanfic).

So....

Anyone got any tips for a first time fanfic writer because I would GREATLY appreciate ANYTHING. I do consider myself to be a writer (even though I haven't really written anything in a hot minute, so I might be a tad rusty but not too bad) and I've written short stories and started WAY too many novels that haven't gotten near finished for years but I've never done fanfic with pre-established characters. How is it different from normal writing with OCs and original worlds and plots? And do you do anything different with the fanfic planning/writing process or do you just kinda wing it or what? Absolutely looking forward to any advice because I've wanted to write fanfic for a while but keep convincing myself not to.
