the  duties  placed  upon  sutara,  as  an  honorary  member  of  the  court,  were  taxing.  thrilled  as  she  was  to  be  trying  to  make  a  difference,  it  still  left  her  overwhelmed  most  of  the  time.  combined  with  the  declining  health  of  her  father,  the  celestial  noxir  was  close  to  losing  it.  she  was  thankful  for  the  acharis  during  this  time.  on  top  of  being  a  great  help  for  her  father’s  health,  having  nirav  around  made  sutara  feel….  normal.  like  herself  again,  not  the  councilwoman  (  only  temporary,  the  elders’  voice  thunder  in  her  head.  )  in  short,  sutara  breathes  easier  now.
the  broken  vase  lays  on  the  floor  between  them,  twin  laughter  having  gradually  died  down.  they  have  spent  the  last  minute  on  a  battle  of  whose  fault  it  was,  neither  wanting  to  take  the  blame  for  the  ruined  relique.  sutara  turns  towards  nirav,  furrowed  brows  and  mouth  open  in  indignant  laughter.    ❝  ah,  both  our  faults,  is  it?  I  don't  recall  having  been  the  one  to  bump  into  it.  ❞    though  she  could  have  been  at  fault  for  a  friendly  little  push.  almond  eyes  look  towards  the  door,  before  returning  to  the  shards  on  the  floor,  head  tilting  to  the  side.    ❝  we  should  find  someone  to  fix  it…  or  hide  it.  ❞

but there was that line knitted between his brows,   the one that suggested the end of their little  game of illusions.   nikolai rubbed the spot above his brow with his head bent down,   as though in deep thought,   and he was,   weighing the ramifications of his idea.    ingenuity came at a cost,   and today it was the heavy weight that sank inside his ribs and descended into his stomach.    it is with that analysis that revelations were made:   where he realised how  comfortable  he'd gotten in this arrangement,    how he'd morphed a future out of the patterns of present,   how the lines were always there but they'd blurred in his eyes.    because that was the thing about illusions,   they were just that.

who, or what are the trinity?
there are a few conflicting viewpoints here. in the LORE video that attempts to explain the game's lore in a minute or less, the trinity are described as "a trinity of euclidean horrors masquerading as beautiful goddesses" that saw that mankind was impure and sought their destruction. surely that must be the answer, right?
well it's been almost a decade since then, and a lot of our information has changed, especially with the release of eliza and skullgirls mobile. allow me to attempt to explain how i've pieced together skullgirls' lore.
in ancient times, there was a kingdom formed around a human woman named lamia and her two daughters, aeon and venus. parasites thrived in this age, being known to the public as "theons" and their hosts as "avatars." notice the language here. the root word "theo" in theons means "god", and representatives of gods in real life were often called avatars. the mysterious substance "theonite" was also responsible for the parasite's immense power. aeon and venus were seemingly bonded to their theons, khronos and abaddon, in life as they are in death. it's no wonder they would be in positions of high power back then with parasites that were able to rend time and space at will. but at this point, importance has not been placed on the girls themselves, only their parasites. the trinitarian religion did not exist until after their deaths, when double was sent down to spread the gospel of her masters. suspiciously, lamia herself is never implied to have had a parasite, but i'll come back to that later.
enter neferu, more commonly known today as eliza.

at the time of the kingdom's apex, neferu was lamia's righthand and governed alongside her. either through sekhmet's doing or her own lust for power, she betrayed her queen, violently killing her daughters and "destroying their kingdom", as double puts it. neferu was branded as the crimson scourge, and theons fell from their place of high importance in society, condemned now as pests or "parasites." i'd assume that would sour just about any person's outlook on humanity, honestly. but it's especially interesting that in lamia in mythology was driven to insanity by the murder of her children. and equally as interesting is the fact that she herself is never stated to have died. it's been mentioned before in lore posts on the official skullgirls forums, but there is no afterlife in the skullgirls universe or at least there wasn't intended to be. corpses are resurrected on command by the skull heart, which is (you guessed it) comprised of theonite. who's to say that when their avatars died, abaddon and khronos didn't resurrect their masters and ensure their continued existence on a higher plane? that's only part of what i think happened though. i believe that, consumed by her grief and desire for revenge, it was lamia's doing that propelled herself and her daughters to the status of divinity. and it was neferu's betrayal and society's contempt for theons following that incident that inspired lamia to go on a crusade against all of mankind. i say lamia instead of implicating aeon or venus because they seem... pretty chill about it overall. in game it's even stated to be their mother's plan, and while they are just as evil, they seem to be having fun with it more than seeking any kind of revenge. but who is lamia's parasite? double, duh.

not only is their physical resemblance uncanny, but the two are often stated to be one and the same, or at least the inverse of a common parasite-host relationship. double is lamia's avatar, her representative on the mortal plane as well as the window for the goddesses to see and operate through. i'm willing to suspend my belief and say that lamia is so powerful of a being on her own either through double's power or in spite of it that she is able to control her remotely, without physically even needing to be present. though it helps that double is made in her image, so to speak. lamia devised the skullheart, which would corrupt any woman who was not pure of heart, and used double to carry it out into the world. since she viewed mankind as vile, "defiling insects," she assumed that none could wield it without being corrupted by it's power, and that humanity's greed, similar to eliza's, would be their undoing. double then founded trinitarianism, bringing us to the present day. to recap, since i know that was a lot: the trinity were once rulers of a now fallen kingdom who derived their power from the theons, or parasites. they were betrayed by eliza and sekhmet, an incident which is said to have caused the prejudice against parasites today. upon the deaths of aeon and venus, their mother resurrected them and set out to avenge them by destroying mankind. and honestly, the girls are only there for the ride, i respect that.

AI software and its industry have grown so painfully big and complex that standards are needed to simplify things and ease the discomfort.
That was the key message from participants in a panel discussion on identifying and solving developers' pain points, which was held during EE Times's recent AI Everywhere Forum.

"All AI systems, from tinyML to supercomputers, need software, but the state of AI software across the industry is at best variable," said panel moderator Nitin Dahad, editor-in-chief of embedded.com and an EE Times correspondent. "What are the biggest pain points developers face today with AI software stacks? What problems are common to all applications, snd where should we start trying to fix them?"
Standardization may be the start of a fix, according to panelists.
"Industry standards let you plug things together, right?" said Codeplay CEO Andrew Richards, who also became a VP at Intel after it bought the specialist software company in 2022. "If you think about something like USB or Wi-Fi, they just make things work together, even though they're designed by different companies, and different technologies, different skill sets."
Richards and his fellow panelists had other issues on their mind, too:
Fragmentation of frameworks;
Performance;
The need to debug data and the lack of data debuggers;
Managing the disparate professionals and skill sets needed for AI software, along with the complexity of the applications themselves, and
Code portability.
"The answer to all of these questions, from my point of view, is industry standards," Richards said. "And that's what we do with SYCL, and that's what we're doing across the oneAPI project, what we've been doing with other standards: enabling different sector people to work together."
He encouraged developers to become active in the groups writing the standards, including The Khronos Group and the oneAPI Community Forum.
"If you look at the standards and you think, 'Oh, that's not a good fit for us,' come and join," he said. "You can change them. You can actually change the standards and take them down a direction that you want, and it's going to work much better for you."

Necessary beyond writing or re-writing standards, though, is trying them, Richards said.
"What we find with SYCL is people go, 'It's never going to work, it's never going to work,' and then you try," he said. "And it does actually work, and you actually get really good performance. Now we can run massive, large-scale software."
Don't forget standards for data, said David Kanter, executive director of MLCommons, a consortium formed to grow ML from a research field into a mature industry via benchmarks, public datasets and best practices.
 "One thing I would say is, standards for data, not a thing, right?" he said.
Kanter cited the example of building an ML model for speech. There are no standardized inputs developers always use for speech, he said, so everyone has a different pipeline munging things in different ways.

"It also depends on your target," he said. "So, to talk about tinyML, in some cases you may have an on-device component that can do some portion of the pre-processing. Sometimes you don't. So, there's a lot of things there where standards could totally help. That's another example of an area where software has a rich history, but we don't see it on the data side, and sort of need to develop that intuition and those muscles."
The two parts of AI applications—software and data—are mismatched in their development, panelists said, leading to post-spinach Popeye "muscles" of code, while the ML training information remains a 98-pound weakling.
"We believe that the biggest pain point is to be able to collect enough amounts of data—well annotated, high quality—and to have the software to do that," said Anders Hardebring, the CEO of Imagimob, a development platform for ML on edge devices.
Popeye muscles or no, software development always lags behind new hardware, Hardebring noted.
Alex Grbic, VP of software engineering at chip company Untether AI, agreed with Hardebring. "In order to take advantage of the novel architectures, the whole reason these new architectures are coming out are to meet a certain performance requirement that more traditional architectures can't," he said. "But they are complex, right?"

Untether's customers who use frameworks like TensorFlow don't want to do the underlying parallel programming needed for spatial architectures, he added.
"And, in that case, they rely heavily on the software to take advantage of that," Grbic said. "And we're the ones that provide it."
While standards are being worked out, Untether's software simplifies the use of its hardware and facilitates the better performance it makes possible.

Khronos is like the fourth part of duke and general, where y/n from another dimension travels into the past…. So, that means that the original genral y/n might have also switched since she never returned. That might be why the present day hwa, the company owner hwa, bcz of whom y/n gets stuck in the past, didn’t recognize her when she came back to the present. Do you get what I’m trying to say?

I won't pretend to know how this works, but I have a few questions for you that I didn't get to ask you before," the halfling sighed as he paced the floor of his apartment above his shop, his little Siamese cat weaving between his feet.
The fact Khronos was still hovering between this plane and the astral was the only way he was able to hear this question.  But if there was anything he could say about the Halfling was that he was a go-getter.  Where that was a wonderful quality to attempt to contact him was quite dangerous.
No crossing fully into the space this allowed Khronos to fully interact with Jason yet not disrupt the flow of time that his presence here would cause.

Do you have any thoughts on veganism? || The reason I have the tag #thereisnoethicalconsumptionunderveganism is because it's true: consumption under veganism promotes the uses of plastics (always bad) and colonialism for indigenous foodstuffs (at the expense of indigenous people's well being or ability to acquire said foodstuffs for themselves) while pretending that it is ethical to consume plants but not animals because plants do not seem to feel pain, which we're learning is simply untrue. (Perhaps they do not feel it in the same way that humans feel pain, but plants are in some sense aware of being consumed.) Further, not only is veganism not an adequate ethical standpoint, but it isn't even an adequately ecological one, as seen not just by the promotion of pleather (non-renewable) over leather or the problems with growing quinoa and agave, but by all of those call-out posts that backfire on them about how the care of livestock (particularly shearing of sheep and harvesting honey from hives) works.
Like, if you wanted to say that the only way you can eat ethically is if you don't kill or otherwise harm an organism, then your options are fructarianism (which cannot meet human dietary needs) with or without honey or maybe finding a way of growing food in the lab via cloning or similar. That still tries to remove humans from nature, which I don't think is terribly ethical.

|| 6.) Do you use a watch? || For keeping time, no, though I used to, briefly. I attended this summer program that required us to keep track of time, so we all wore watches. I found one I liked at Walmart (blue face, gold and silver everything else) and quickly smashed it accidentally playing ERS (Egyptian Rat Screw, a card game like War but involving slapping; I was particularly good at it at the time). I mean, anymore I have no need for one because of my phone. It took me another decade or so (and an accidentally related art project) to learn that smashing is the proper use for clocks, but I have bought a watch for that purpose yet (largely because wall clocks are more satisfying to smash and are cheaper). I kinda wish I would smash a phone, since annoyance from use is half the point, instead of a clock bought solely for the purpose and never used otherwise, but phones are too expensive and provide so many other, more important functions. (Not that killing an effigy of Khronos as a snackrifice for Fotamecus isn't important; I identify Fotamecus as Hermes, so the communication aspect of the phone alone is enough to make it more important as a tool for him than smashing it as a sacrifice.)

|| 16.) Thoughts on mint chocolate chip? || It's my second favorite ice cream flavor. My first is anything involving peanut butter and chocolate. Since most places have such a flavor, I almost never have MCC anymore. (Then again, since I rarely go out for ice cream anymore and when I do it's to get a sacrifice for Hermes [strawberries are sacred to him; I dun like strawberries much], I almost never have PB-choco ice cream, either.)
|| 17.) Do you have an anxious compulsion you do every day? || Maybe. I'm not OCD, to my knowledge.

|| 19.) What vegetable do you dislike the most? || Probably Brussels sprouts, but I'm not a fan of onions or cucumbers, either.

If I had to pick one, it would probably be The Little Mermaid; I like Mulan as a character and specifically love the henshin hair cutting scene, but I don't like the movie much. (Unsure why Frozen isn't listed in the "official canon" list on Wikipedia, but it's up there.)
That said, the worst one is The Princess and the Frog, followed by Moana. Tangled is probably close by. I haven't seen Pocahontas (purposefully), so it could be worse.

The following blog post, unless otherwise noted, was written by a member of Gamasutra’s community. The thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the writer and not Gamasutra or its parent company.
In this author's opinion, the virtual reality market is having a crisis of faith.  It's struggling to come to grips with its limited sales, it is grasping on to the same hyped up reports promoting that we'll do better next decade, and I have yet to see a single projection giving a convincing explanation as to why the market is expected to grow.  The closest exception is John Riccietello's often quoted Gap of Disappointment which I think is a far riskier proposition.  We instead have a Gap of Suspended Reality when it's in our power to fix that - now.
In this piece, I'm going to share the latest data we have, I'll discuss why I think we are seeing the results that we are, and reveal a really cool effort to help overcome the presented challenges.  The whole thing is very ambitious, and I figured it was important to explain how we got from point A to point B in our thinking so that the market is onside for everyone's benefit.
In December 2015, the alliance published virtual reality sales numbers for PC, mobile, and console for the first 12 months of launch for modern VR devices.  They turned out to be solid, especially for PC and console.  We also said that vendors could wait as long as a year to go seriously in on VR.  The reason was that based on the available horsepower, we expected the total market sales would be capped at about 300,000 to 500,000 units give or take in the PC universe (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, everything else PC).  Yes, there are mobile and console numbers too, but they all tell the same story in their own way.
Fast forward to 2017, and what started with an estimated three million qualified virtual reality PCs last year (computers ready for a VR device) has grown to a new figure of 15 to 20 million qualified PCs.  The reasons for this dramatic growth is Moore's Law and new software techniques making it possible to do more with less computer horsepower.
We should all be celebrating, right?  You'd think.
Last December, I started a hunt to find evidence that the VR market is growing at the consumer level because I was hoping this would help me plot the market's progress to success.  I researched how the virtual reality online communities were doing.  I looked at Reddit, the traffic for the online discussion forums for key vendors, I regularly visited multiple metaverse platforms, I did secret shopping, and more.  I continue to keep a close watch on things to this day. What I found was mind boggling.
Look carefully at the "Gap of Disappointment" growth curves.
We need to work for better growth, even for "Gap of Disappointment" standards.
Reddit has the largest online VR communities that I know of.  These graphs highlight the subscription level of each VR Reddit community and when they hit certain membership milestones.  Remember that Reddit accounts last forever, so the numbers never go down.    In the case of Oculus, they have been in a state of plateau for over a year.  HTC has grown since the start, and they suddenly hit their plateau in March of this year.  I hypothesize that the Oculus community just jumped over to the Vive community, and we are dealing with the same people.  There is other data too; it all works out the same way.
Here is the scary part.  If the VR hardware prices are dropping and the computer horsepower pricing is dropping, where is the measurable increase in sales or online activity?  Why are we seeing these trends?
The first variable that everyone touts as the solution is content.  We need more blessed VR content!  While I'm sure content will help, I am not yet seeing evidence that this is dramatically changing the trend yet.  Insomniac Games' Unspoken was released last November.  Epic Games' Robo Recall was released on March 1st.  Owlchemy Labs' Rick and Morty was released in April.  No effect.

There are AAA games coming down the pipe like Fallout 4 in VR and Star Trek: Bridge Crew; I'm sure the best is yet to come for our VR softare libraries.  The question is whether that content will live in our existing universe, or will it stretch outward and expand the audience?  It could go either way, and so far the evidence tells me it's a gamble to be dependent on this alone.
Could it be standards?  It's public knowledge that the Khronos Group is actively working on open standards pertaining to immersive technology, and I fully support them.  Still, standards alone wouldn't dramatically affect these trend lines given the limited sales numbers all around.
Is it price?  In the PC world, the former top tier graphics cards are now mid-range, and the pricing has been dropping for the VR HMDs.  This, and there is a slew of mixed reality devices coming to market from a myriad of suppliers.  If we look at the highly-invested hardcore gamers, that market has every ability to put money in the VR space.  I'm unconvinced that price is dramatically impacting the growth curves; especially when we figure that there is a customer base that is content to spend money on things like this.

Is it wildly unrealistic expectations?  Not exactly.  When Facebook acquired Oculus for X billion dollars, they inadvertently defined a yardstick before the market could get its facts and figures straight.  So sure, we have our "Gap of Disappointment".    However, even if the most realistic expectations were in place, we should be seeing measurable growth and be able to explain why we are seeing that growth.  I'm unable to find evidence that the gap curve is working in this case.
Are we crazy to think that people will wear an electric Kleenex box on their face?  Maybe in public...or on a bus, or while piloting an airplane.  I think people will agree to do all kinds of  things if the value is delivered to them and it's reasonably comfortable to do so.  Even if VR is geared to a subset of users, there should be plenty of room for growth.

This video is from GDC 2013 when the Oculus Rift DK1 prototype was first shown.  Featuring special features like motion blur, screw in lenses, a truly seated experience completely free of positional tracking, and a screen door effect like no other - the DK1 had it all!  Look at that excitement and how wowed everyone was!  So what went wrong?
Those marathon VR runners are game developers, not customers, and they aren't at all the same animal.  We've behaved as though they are and we staked our businesses on the mantra that if we build it, they will come.  They still haven't arrived!  Why?  Most don't even know about us.

It's no wonder we are facing this crisis of faith and people are coming up with fancy graphs to explain why point A didn't get to point B or are repositioning to a 10 year plan when we haven't even figured out why something didn't work out in year one.  Our market's brains are literally short circuiting.  How could VR fail?  How could something so exciting and so obvious have such a dramatic disconnect?
The crazy (or not so crazy) thing is I know that VR has every ability to succeed in the consumer markets.  That excitement in the Running of the Rift video was completely warranted and the only games I've been playing since have been virtual reality games.  I couldn't do this work unless I really enjoyed it.  My wife itches to play with this stuff too (not a gamer!), and my family begs to check it out when they visit.
However, take a moment to look around.  What do you see?  Oodles of money spent on professional VR conferences in the same territory, game engine VR lessons, VR investor symposiums, developer meetups, monthly rent incubators, and of course an endless supply of content makers hungry for investors for products that they have no clue how many will sell or why.  We are selling to ourselves, and this is our reality.  Yes, the professional side is vital, yet it all falls apart without a demonstrated consumer base or even a convincing plan for getting a new consumer base.
Conversations about whether or not it's right to have exclusives, who got sued, which VR pioneer left, got demoted, or got fired, and who does and doesn't have a booth at E3 this year has little to no impact on the market's bottom line.  We need to instead be talking about customer sales and what we are doing to get them - and viability is a very realistic mission to accomplish if the expectations are realistic.  The discussion alone would give cause to have fresh justified excitement for immersive technology and its future.  People need to see a plan that answers the age old question of why.

So what is our market to do?  How do we get our Mojo back?
First, based on GPU sales and other factors, we estimate 15 - 20 million qualified PCs to be ready for VR devices in 2017.  This is dramatically higher than our original projection for this time because we did not expect the software enhancements making it possible to do more with less (asynchronous spacewarp, reprojection, fewer USB 3.0 ports required, etc.).  In the PC world, there is a lot of new green pasture to work with.
As demonstrated in the above graphs, we are tapped out; we haven't been doing nearly enough to appeal to a new customer base - just ourselves.  We need more than a flying osterich to save the day.  Now that affordable processing power is available, this is the time for the double down!  We have the advantage of more content, cheaper equipment, readily available processing power, fully interactive VR devices - seize the day!  It's time to stand proud, lose the unbelievably weak 10 year plan messaging, and just do it.  Build a growth curve, no matter how pragmatic, that is founded in fact that is the result of actual consumer outreach.  Once we have this, it's a model that can be built, believed, and supported.
Still, we need more than the double down.  The market over promised in 2016 when there were only three million qualified VR Ready PCs (estimated).  Content makers are hungry, marketing budgets are spent, investors are weary, and media are looking for their next story that probably has nothing to do with VR or immersive technology.
What we need is a solution that is 180 degrees apart from the current norm of VR marketing.  It has to be a story-driven solution that will directly appeal and connect with consumers, and it has to reawaken the media interest in virtual reality and immersive technology.  It should result in participants buying VR product, and it has to benefit the entire VR ecosystem.  Customers are the life blood of our whole ecosystem, and we want them.  Finally, it has to have permanence; something that people look forward to on a regular basis.
The Immersive Technology Alliance was founded to make VR and immersive technology viable.  While delivering accurate market data is very important, having a plan of action and grabbing the bull by the horns is what we are all about.  The ITA has been working on our part of the solution since last December, and things have been progressing very well.  Our solution is called...
Immersed-Con is destined to be a major eSports event based on virtual reality.  50,000 square feet of competition, presentations, and immersive technology exhibition.  It's where VR champions are born, and it's a catalyst for would-be (will-be?) consumers to try out all kinds of immersive technology and experience what all the excitement is about.
This is about much more than games; this is just a subset of potential content.  We want attendees seeing how VR will change the world and how it will impact our daily lives.  360 journalism, experiences, education, and bold new ideas all have their place at Immersed-Con.
What do we want to see happen?

The foundation of a new class of professional eSports that appeals to a huge potential audience.  We can't just plop people on a stage and call them VR Champions.  Each needs a story and they have to prove their worth.  Immersed-Con is the only meaningful way to achieve that.  The only way to launch VR or immersive tech eSports seriously is to have Immersed-Con.
