The 8 most delicious ice cream spots in Abu Dhabi
1. Beirut on the Sea
Beirut Sur Mer is where you should be if you're looking for Lebanese sweets. There are many options on the Baladiyat menu, so pull up a chair near Soul Beach and grab a spoon. You may purchase a pan of sweet baklawa that has been topped with mistake ice cream, pistachios, and pashmak. You may also get a bowl of ice cream with fresh mango, pistachios, or tahini.
2. Tap black
If you enjoy your ice cream in a shake, Black Tap is your best option. Marsha's promenade can be explored before entering Black Tap's air conditioning and hipster-chic atmosphere. A "confetti" cake slice, whipped cream, a cherry, and a vanilla-frosted rim with sprinkles are all included with the cake shake. When you visit Black Tap, keep an eye out for the discounts and browse the variety of themed shakes they provide.
3. Central
Abu Dhabi Central is the place to go if you want your ice cream in Abu Dhabi with a huge helping of fun. The Central restaurant, which is situated at the popular Yas Bay Waterfront, offers burgers, bowling, and an arcade. There is also a huge menu of gigantic flavors of ice cream if that's what you're looking for. Shakes like the "space jam," a strawberry shake with a cupcake, lollipop, and whipped cream on top.
4. Corner Gelato Cone
Abu Dhabi's Corner Cone is a charming, unassuming place to get ice cream. Corner Cone, which is in Al Nahyan, specializes in gelato. Tiramisu, vanilla, pistachio, chocolate, and strawberry are among the flavors offered, but this hipster-chic ice cream shop also offers specialty soft-serve cones like the "mini peach" with Minnie Mouse ears and "the honey bee" with sugar bees and yellow ice cream.
5. Mado
In our opinion, Turkish ice cream is one of the best things ever. One of the greatest places in Abu Dhabi to get ice cream is MADO, a Turkish sweets company. A new branch has just opened at Al Qana. The pistachio baklava with churned cream is what we're most interested in. cream. A piece of pistachio baklava and a slice of carrot are sandwiched between two scoops of classic Turkish ice cream.
6. Pickl
Don't overlook the ice cream, even if you're visiting Pickl for one of its famous burgers or a mouthwatering chicken sando. With vanilla, salted caramel, chocolate, strawberry, or vimto ice cream, Pickl offers an ice cream sando. In Abu Dhabi, there are two Pickl locations: WTC and Mamsha. The ideal way to spend the summer in Abu Dhabi is with pickles and ice cream.
7. SALT
Why wait to give SALT a try if you haven't already? This cult-favorite burger joint, which also serves some of the best ice cream in Abu Dhabi, has become popular throughout the UAE and KSA for good reason. Salt began as a little food truck, but today it can be found all over the area. Visit the branch at Umm Al Emarat Park and get a lotus softie with caramel-drizzled soft-serve ice cream. Take your cone for a stroll around the park if you can stand the heat. If not, there is a lot of A/C inside.
8. Soo Matcha
You'll adore this place if you like matcha. Soo Matcha offers soft-serve matcha ice cream that is both vegan and keto-friendly. Matcha and beetroot ice cream are swirled together in this soft serve. Though it is the most unusual ice cream on the list, don't dismiss it before giving it a shot.

ABU DHABI 2010
“Sebastian Vettel, you are the world champion!”
“The youngest world champion in F1 history!”
Sofia had heard it all. She wasn’t sad that she couldn’t finish the race, she was happy. At least she could see Sebastian cross the finish line. She had changed into a simple t shirt and jeans with some converse. After the race, all she wanted to do was see Sebastian, but she knew he would be busy with post race interviews so Sofia made her way to the Porsche motorhome in search of a snack.
“Sofia! Hey!” She heard Jenson’s voice as she was about to enter the motorhome. “Your lover boy is looking for you!”
Several people in the paddock stared at both Jenson and Sofia wondering who the lover boy was. The woman chuckled as Jenson winked at her. “You do know everyone just heard you?”
“You do know I don’t care.” Jenson said making her roll her eyes. He catches up to her and gave her a hug. “He’s been asking for you.”
“He can wait. I deserve some ice cream after that shit race.” Sofia replied.
“Yeah, we’ll don’t keep lover boy waiting. It’s annoying when he keeps asking for you. I love you, but please I can’t handle another ‘where’s sofia?’.” Jenson joked.
“I’ll go see him in a bit. He’s probably being held back by reporters.” Sofia said. “Would you like some ice cream?”
Jenson didn’t think twice about that. “Yeah, I could go for some.”
After finishing the vanilla ice cream, Sofia said goodbye to Jenson and made her way to the Red Bull garage. The celebrations were still going on. Soon, she saw Sebastian being congratulated by other people, one of them whispering something in his ear making him turn around and spot her.
“Schatz!” Sebastian ignored everyone around him and hurriedly pulled Sofia into a hug. “I’m so sorry about-”
“It’s doesn’t matter. You’re a world champion, Seb.” Sofia pulled away from the hug and kissed his cheek that taste too much like champagne. She could feel the stares of people on them. The cameras clicking so fast, she was sure one of them was going to pop up in a gossip magazine the next day.
Sebastian then took her hand and led her to his driver’s room where it was much more private. Now it definitely looked like something a couple would do, but Sebastian could care less. He was world champion and he wanted to celebrate with Sofia.
“My mom called, she told me to tell you that she’s proud of you and congratulations.” Sofia mentioned as she entered Sebastian’s drivers room, him following closely behind.
“When is she coming to a race? I haven’t seen her in a while.” Sebastian asked.
“She’s a teacher, she has teacher duties almost everyday. That woman doesn’t know when to stop working.” Sofia chuckled.
“We have to bring her out to a race. Which one do you think she’ll like? I’ll fly her out.”
“You’re going to make me look like a bad daughter.”
She sat on the tiny bed and watched as he got out a shirt and pants. He changed in front of her many times and it was never awkward, they were that comfortable with each other. He unzipped his suit and let it fall to his waist.
“What are your celebration plans? I’m assuming you won’t be in your hotel room until . . . 4am?” Sofia wondered.
“You mean we. You and I are going out.” Sebastian clarified. “It’s not a proper celebration without my best girl.”
“Oh so now I’m your girl?”
“You’ve always been my girl, my best girl.” He repeated.
Sofia stood up and approached him then whispered into his ear.“Funny, I don’t remember you asking me to be your girl.” She smiled then placed a kiss on his cheek. “I’ll be outside waiting, champ.”
Sebastian knew she was just teasing, but hearing her voice so close made him weak in the knees. Her voice had always brought a great comfort to him.
When Sofia left and shut the door, Sebastian let out a deep sigh. “Shit.” He said as he realized that Sofia Barrett had him acting like a lovesick fool.
“Can I speak to you?”
Mark definitely wasn’t expecting Sebastian to be knocking at his hotel room door at 3 am, but here he was. The Australian was exhausted and all he wanted to do was sleep, but Sebastian had other plans.
“Is it important?” Mark asked, half asleep.
“To me it is.” Sebastian replied. Without Mark’s permission, he let himself in. “I need to talk about something that’s been bothering me.”
“Yeah, alright.” Mark said defeated. “What?” He closed the door and walked to his bed.
“Sofia.”
“Sofia . . has been bothering you?” He wasn’t sure if Sebastian was drunk. “Look, I get that I’m older than both of you, but this isn’t like school when someone bothers you and you tattle to the teacher, mate.”
“No, it’s not like that. It’s . . Just don’t make fun of me, okay? I think I’m in love with her, wait no, I am in love with her.” He admitted.
“Are you drunk?”
“I’m completely sober actually. But, yeah, I am in love with Sofia Barrett.” He nodded.
“And this involves me how?”
Sebastian sighed. “I just needed to tell someone and I trust you. Obviously I couldn’t tell Sofia, she’s way out of my league.”
Mark laughed. “Yeah, she is.” He watched as his teammate rolled his eyes. “Did she go out with you to celebrate?”
“She did.” He nodded. “She payed for all the drinks even though I told her not to. She even kissed my cheek many times, not that I’m complaining. She made everyone laugh at the table and then for some reason we started talking about bugs because we saw a bee near by. She started telling me all these facts about bees and I just sat there listening to every word.”
“Oh man, you’re in deep.”

The heat in Jeddah was unbearable and everyone seemed to be affected by it but chose to continue with whatever they were busy. As media followed you to the buzzing Mercedes garage, you took out your phone to inform your husband that you’ve arrived and will be waiting for him with Angela.
Your confidence had reached an all time high from the moment you landed in Abu Dhabi. It was a day of the champion spirit to float around the Hamilton household once again, a day for Lewis to win his 8th World Championship and for him to continue his legacy as the greatest driver that Formula One has ever seen. You refused to think anything negative about this race but something in the back of your head kept itching to argue your positive feelings about it. He had hyped himself up for today and you joined him, knowing that everything would go well.
Spotting your father in law, Anthony, standing outside the garage made you sigh of relief, knowing you could safely offload your thoughts to someone who most likely had the same thoughts as you in concern for your husband. “Hey Anthony.” You greeted as you walked up to him with his arms ready to envelop you in a hug. “Y/n! How are you feeling? It’s quite hot here, isn’t it?” He commented, looking over at the busy pit lane.
“I’m feeling confident. Surprised there’s no ice cream station around.” You joked and he flashed a smile. “Oh, there is, in the paddock club. Made sure to check for you.” Anthony smiled and you could only flash a smile back. “Hey, don’t stress about it, Y/n. Everything will be okay, even if he doesn’t get it and that’s a very big if.” He assured and you took a breath in, not wanting to seem negative. “The Red Bull’s are the ones stressing me because they’re just everywhere but like you said, I shouldn’t stress. Now, would you like some ice cream?” You asked and he nodded. “Need a little pick me up. I’ll be here when you get back.” Anthony responded and walked back into the garage.
By the time you had arrived to the paddock, it had been quite full so it was clear that the paddock club would be as full with many different people from all around the world. You waved to whoever seemed to want your attention, stopping to take pictures with fans or sign autographs all while having your airpods in, a habit you gladly took from Lewis. You knew people would talk about you, what you’re wearing, what you say and being quiet, just like your husband, has helped you a ton in terms of not taking your words out of context. Did SkySports F1 always have close ups of you during races just to see your reaction to anything? Yes but you never engaged unless it was to a smile or a wink to the camera.
Entering the paddock club with two of your security personnel, your long blonde braids swiftly followed behind you and it caught the attention of many, especially a woman who never really liked you or your husband. “Oh my! Y/n! Hi!” The shrill voice behind you had exclaimed to you, hearing their heeled footsteps come close to you. “Kelly, hello.” You smiled but anyone around you could see that the smile never reached your eyes. “Just came over to see your hair and wow, what a statement!” She giggled and she reached her hand out and inched her hand closer and closer to your braids but you moved away as quickly as you could. “Always have something to say.” You muttered to yourself as you turned towards the makeshift ice cream parlour.
“Also wanted to say good luck for today with Red Bull and Mercedes being head to head, y’know? Speaking of your hair, I saw a couple of hair ties that reminded of the two of you-”
“Okay Kelly! Just…stop commenting on our hair, our jewellery or just anything that involves my husband and I.” You sighed out. The look on her face was of shock and disbelief that you would even dare to speak up to her. You flicked your braids behind you and grabbed the two cups of ice cream after paying. Walking out of there in a quick pace, you kept your face neutral and made your way to the Mercedes garage with no one bothering you.
Giving Anthony his ice cream up in a hurry, he observed your face and immediately directed you to where Lewis was, his drivers room. Knocking on his door, you heard a ‘come in’ and entered, seeing him seated with his race suit around his waist and his airpods in just like you. He faced you and his face lit up at the sight of you. “Hey, love. You look so beautiful.” He complimented you and you smiled but it didn’t quite reach your eyes once again. “Let me guess. Someone criticising your looks?” He guessed and you could only nod at him before crashing into his chest and him hugging you right back, feeling the warmth of him envelop you.
“It’s not even about that because people always have something to say. It’s a specific sloth’s girlfriend that’s pissing me off.” Lewis squeezed you within the hug. “Don’t call him that.” You could hear the laugh creeping up but he chose not to. “It’s not me, it’s the internet. She tried to touch my hair then said some shit about hair ties and you know I could beat a bitch up and then she was on some “good luck” type shit-”
“Y/n.” Lewis called out and held your face in your hands. “They want you to stoop down to their level then drag your name all over. Everything will be fine, especially today. As long as I have you and my family beside, I already feel like I have won.” He smiled and gave you a peck before looking into your eyes. “You’re so corny but so sweet, Sir.” You said, fluttering your eyelashes at him and he chuckled while looking to the side.
“You are a dangerous woman, Mrs Hamilton.”
-
The silence around the Mercedes garage was unsettling once the drivers got to the last two laps of the race. Lewis and Max were head to head with the Red Bull going suspiciously faster. You stood next to Toto and Anthony, tearing your eyes away from the screen to look at the person who’s eyes were piercing into you. There were multiple cameras around you so you couldn’t see clearly at whoever was staring at you. Looking back at the screen, all your hope poured out to Lewis, praying to whoever was listening that he should win.
Your heart seemed to stop at the very moment the world saw Verstappen cross the finish line and hearing the cheers of the Red Bull garage not too far from you. A few groans spewed out of a few engineers as they began to get ready for Lewis to come back after the podium celebration. It seemed as if the cameras came close to you as a single tear slipped out of your left eye, face stoic as ever. You blocked out everything that happened around you. Toto becoming angry, Anthony urging you to come with him to see Lewis, your phone continuously buzzing but all you could do was stare at the screen as you watched Lewis park the car and his helmet dropped down as you saw people cheering behind his car.
Your throat felt closed up and goosebumps run through your body. You felt nauseous but chose to keep it down, knowing you would not be able to even breathe when you see him. You walked out of the garage only to see other drivers coming out of their garages and Lando and Sebastian walking towards the Mercedes garage, mainly towards you.
“Seb..” You muttered out and you could see the pity coming from them but they were trying to make it not seem like they were pitying you. “I’ll talk to you guys later.” You uttered as you waved them off in shock, walking towards the podium celebrations where Lewis’ face was on the screen and you tried your level best to keep it in.
Eventually standing with Anthony at the entrance of the garage, there he was, walking towards the two of you. Lewis hugged his father first whilst giving him encouraging words and you see a few tears escape his eyes and that broke you. Your own tears started to fall and Lewis could hear you despite all the noise. He looked at you once and brought you to his chest for you to sob all your feelings out.
“I’m so sorry.” You cried and he just held you, your arms around his waist. “Everything will be fine, princess. I’ll be okay.” He said as he helped you calm down, rubbing your back. You lifted your head off his chest and looked up into his sad, beautiful eyes. “I love you so much. You’re a champion to me.” You tried to smile at him and he kissed your forehead.
“I love you so much more.” He said, not caring about the world seeing you console each other.
present day
Your sunglasses were perched on your nose as you leaned onto the railing of the Mercedes hospitality in Austria. The race was going terrible for the drivers who weren’t Max Verstappen. Penalties were being handed out left right and centre and it wasn’t a pleasant sight. An hour after the race, you watched how Lewis and Lando interacted in the media pen and how there was no bad blood between them.
“It always shocks me when you and Lewis still keep a positive energy around you even when it feels like the worlds against you.” You heard Susie’s voice as she walked up behind you. “As Selena Gomez said, you kill them with kindness. Us being positive makes people really mad on the internet but everything will work out soon.” You smiled to her as you took off your shades and put them in your handbag.
“And he will get his 8th World Championship title very soon, i can feel it.” You added with a wink which made Susie smile and you looked back at Lewis on the screen to see with a big smile as he bid goodbye to the interviewer.

Tumblr media
After Paris, Chris was a bit apprehensive when it came to her ability to navigate the airport in Abu Dhabi with any sort of efficiency. Especially not now, where she needs to go through customs and register for a visitor’s visa and find her luggage and get her money exchanged. Pleasantly, though, she’s surprised at the ease she works through her notes app checklist. It’s within the hour that she’s climbing into the backseat of a taxi and heading to the hotel.
She spends the entirety of the twenty-something minute drive doing a deep dive on Joris’ Instagram. He’s going to be waiting for you, Charles had told her the night they’d worked it all out. How he knew his friend would be free is beyond Chris, but that's not even the bigger issue at hand. The issue is, of course, that she’s had no more than a momentary interaction with Joris in the background of a FaceTime call two weeks ago. The thought of breezing past him in the hotel lobby is a mortifying one.
It’s quarter after seven by the time she gets there, and when she catches a glance of herself in a mirror on the wall and almost bursts into laughter. Someone could tell her that she fell down the stairs in Austin and hit her head and is in a coma and it would feel more believable than her life right now. This just… this doesn’t happen to her; five star hotels in foreign countries and heavy accents and guys who call her beautiful from the other side of the globe.
She spots Joris in an armchair on his phone at the other end of the lobby. She approaches nervously, and he stirs from his phone at her sudden proximity. “Hi,” Chris greets, sounds almost apologetic for interrupting him. “Joris, right?”
“Uh, yeah,” he nods, dragging out the vowel sounds when he glances back down at his screen. Chris wonders if he knows he’s waiting for her.
She smiles. “I’m Chris.”
“Right!” He snaps his fingers, shoves his phone into his pocket. “Chris.” He stands and opens his arms to hug her like they’re old friends. It’s a move straight from her book, one that she’s pulled on dozens of people before. It’s not one that she’s met with often. Chris thinks they’ll get on well, her and Joris. That’s a good thing, right? Friendly friends.
Chris’ mom had told her more than once that the quickest way to know someone’s character is through their friends. Only a maniac is rude to animals and elderly and children, she’d said a million times over, it’s the character of the people they choose to spend time with that matters. Joris has no idea Chris is silently observing his every action, picking them apart on a human level.
On the elevator ride up, Joris fills Chris in on everything that’s happened during the free practices that day, tells her that it’s been a relatively clean couple of sessions. You do know of the risk this weekend, yes? P2 or P3, he asks and answers his own question. Chris nods. If she didn’t know, she does now. The room is on the fifth floor, she notes, staring at the glowing five button as she picks at her cuticles. It hits her like a ton of bricks, her anxiety skyrocketing as the elevator ascends, her stomach left behind on the ground level.
This whole thing is crazy, and not the quirky, silly story you tell your friends about over a vodka cran crazy. Just plain crazy. Insane. Off the wall absurd. Why, why are they sharing a room? Why is she even here? What is it about her that can’t be found somewhere, anywhere, else? And the most prudent question, the one ringing in her ears louder with each passing moment; what is it about him?
Chris has never considered herself to be logical, not in the slightest, but she does like to maintain the idea that she’s well grounded. She might not always act in a way that makes the most sense, but she always makes those choices within the bounds of her reality.
And, because her nerves permeate off her like a thirteen-year-old’s B.O, Joris takes a stab at cooling her down. “How was your planes?”
“Good. Smooth.” she nods, forces a smile. Her weight shifts from heel to heel, thumbs looped through her backpack straps. The floor is a shiny black marble with white and gold veins, one that commands your attention. Chris pulls her eyes from it to look at him anyway. Nervous and insane or not, she wants to make a good impression. “I could do without navigating the airport in Paris ever again, though.”
“Oh,” he laughs. “It never gets easier.”
“Does any of it?” She offers up a laugh, but it’s as genuine as the smile her face held before.
He opens his mouth to speak but is cut off with the ding of the doors opening. There, in the hallway with more marble floors and a wallpaper that walks the line between elegant and gaudy, a couple stands on a white carpet runner. The man has on a Mercedes cap. Chris wonders if they know a Formula One driver is staying on their floor.
The four of them sidestep awkwardly around each other with polite smiles to the floor, and before she knows it Joris is holding a keycard over the lock on a heavy door and handing the piece of plastic to her.
It’s not a room. It’s a suite. There’s a living room and a kitchenette and a whole separate bedroom to this place. It’s expensive, wildly so, she’s sure.
She wheels her suitcase into the bedroom, leaves it in the corner by an armchair with her backpack. At the bottom of the bag is her purse, which she digs out while Joris is using the bathroom, moving things around from one bag to the other.
The drive to the circuit is twenty minutes, at least, and Joris talks the whole time, mostly about how nervous he is and how hard he’s trying to make sure Charles doesn’t notice. Chris doesn’t tell him that Charles is also beyond nervous about the whole thing–or that he knows good and well everyone around him is losing their minds. It doesn’t seem like the type of thing that would make Joris feel any better.
“Pascale and Enzo, you know them, yes? Charles’ Mum and brother?” Joris questions.
“Nope,” Chris shakes her head. “Not yet.”
Oh, he doesn’t say. “You’ll like them if you like Charles,” he laughs. “You do like Charles?”
Chris bites down on a smile, a laugh leaving her nose in an exhale. “I do.”
“Good, good.” He nods. “Anyway, they are not here tonight, they already have gone back to the hotel. Arthur is there, still. Do you know him?”
“I think it’s going to be easier for both of us if you just assume I don’t know anyone.”
“Ah, okay. Will do.”
Chris wonders what Charles has said about her to Joris, to Arthur, to anyone. All of the stories he has or hasn’t told them about. She has almost exclusively not talked about him back home. Not because she doesn’t want to, she just can’t figure out how to say anything without sounding like a reality television star. Maybe he’s the same way. There’s a real chance that nobody in his family even knows that she’s coming, and maybe that’s the way she’d like it to be.
Her reunion with Charles couldn’t be more different than their first meeting. The paddock is empty with exception of team crews and straggling media members. There isn’t a Bud Light in sight and the pass hanging around her neck has a picture of her on the back. He must’ve pulled it from her Instagram, the one that he keeps talking about wanting to follow back. A picture of her and CHRISTYN ELLIOTT - FULL WEEKEND written in bold letters.
“He’s probably at the briefing,” Joris explains, checking his watch and walking one stride for every two of Chris’. She tries her hardest to keep up with him as he expertly navigates the paddock, all while trying to memorize his moves so she doesn’t end up stranded sometime this weekend.
A whistle gets their attention, cutting sharply through the hot desert air. Her and Joris both snap their heads around to find the perpetrator of the summons. Charles pats Pierre’s shoulder and jogs ahead of the group of drivers, all already engaged in their own conversations and heading off into different directions.
He has such a carefree smile on his face, jogging over with happy eyes and wiggling brows and a stupid little wink that puts a smile on her face. “Hello, Christyn,” he quips, greets her with open arms. And then, once his arms are pulling her to him so tight she can’t take a full breath, when he has so much energy to give her he can’t help but rock on the sides of his feet, he whispers just for her, “Hi,” a soft kiss on the crown of her head, “I’m so glad you’re here.”
All she can think about is how warm he is. Warm, and smells so nice. She doesn’t know how she’s going to ever go home. Not when he’s so warm.
“How was the planes?” He asks, an arm comfortable slotting around her as they resume their walk to wherever it is she’s being led.
“Uh, I’m tired, but.” She smiles. At him. Right there where she can touch him. Where he is touching her. “I’m here, so. I’m happy.”
Tumblr media
On the walk back to hospitality, she asks him how his day’s gone. He’s sure she already knows, that Joris talked her ear off the entire drive over or that she’d checked the media reports of the practice sessions, but it’s nice to pretend she doesn’t know. He tries to summarize everything as concise as he can, because even though he loves talking to her, he’d much rather listen. He can listen to her talk until the sun burns out.
He’s not surprised to notice that Joris has peeled off from them, especially not because he didn’t even realize he wasn’t trailing behind him and Chris until he held open the door to his driver’s room and Joris was nowhere to be found.
He can’t count the amount of texts he’s had to have sent Chris from his driver’s room. How badly he wanted to just be talking with her, and now she’s here. She’s here, she’s here, she’s here with him.
He moves around the room, cleaning and reorganizing his things for a fresh start in the morning. Casually, he mentions that he has a sponsorship obligation tonight, last race and all, and that Arthur and Joris are coming along. He doesn’t speak it so offhandedly because he’d forgotten, but because he didn’t want her to get freaked out by the idea of it. He explains that she’s welcome to tag along, or, if she’d feel more comfortable, she can stay here while Andrea packs up his things.
She’s leaning against the wall just next to the doorway, watching him. Without hesitation, she replies, “I’ll come with you.”
“Are you sure?” He asks, looking to her. “You don’t have to.”
She nods, looks at the ground or the couch or something that isn’t him, folds her hand to look at her nails and lets out an almost silent laugh. His stomach drops. “You sound like you don’t want me to go.”
“No, no.” He corrects, and she still doesn’t look at him. He waves for her attention, cocks his head to the side when he gets it, “No. That’s not. I just want you to do what you want to do.”
“I want to go.”
“Okay,” he smiles.
She crosses her arms over her chest, looks like she’s trying so hard not to smile at him. “You’re being weird, you know?”
He shrugs, because she’s right. “I told you I would be.”
“Well,” Chris sighs, moves across the room to the small couch in the corner, “why are you being weird?”
“Because.” I want to kiss you, he stops himself from saying. I’ve wanted to kiss you since I saw you twenty minutes ago, since you decided to come, since I met you, maybe.
“Because, why?” She laughs, and he’s suddenly struck with the thought of what her laughter might taste like. Sweet, surely, just like it sounds. Like a popsicle on a summer day.
His phone buzzes in his pocket and he tries his absolute hardest to wipe that thought from his brain before texting his brother back. “Je veux t'embrasser tout le temps,” I want to kiss you all the time, he mumbles, isn’t even sure it actually leaves his lips or if he keeps it locked in the vault. He continues to send his reply to Arthur.
“You know I don’t understand what you just said,” Chris reminds him. That’s why it came out in French, he thinks. Not everything is meant to be said.
“I said,” he pauses, sends the text, looks back at her. God. “I said I want to kiss you.”
She crosses one leg over the other, looks down at her pants like there is something in her lap to fix. He can see the blush on the tips of her ears, even though she’s trying to hide her cheeks. When she does look up, face still flushed, she tucks her bangs behind her ears and replies softly, “you’re allowed to kiss me, Charles.”
He can’t believe he hasn’t yet. That he’d hugged the life out of her, kissed her hair and told her how happy he is she’s there, that he’d thought about kissing her for weeks, that he didn’t fucking kiss the girl yet. They’re sharing a bedroom tonight, and he still hasn’t kissed her. He thought about it, he did. But they’d promised to keep things as quiet as they could. Now, he’s pretty sure she wouldn’t have stopped him from throwing all those conversations out the window.
If there wasn’t something weird in the air before, there certainly is now. A new weird. A good weird. An implication of something in the air, weird. It’s out there now, ust hanging above them. I want to kiss you. You can kiss me. Now all that’s left is for one of them to make the move.
It’s the least he can do–make the first move. She flew across the globe, he can fucking kiss her. He wants to fucking kiss her. He feels like a little kid, the giddy smile that pulls on the corners of his lips when he walks over to her. He does little to conceal his intent.
“What?” She asks with a smile on her face. A tease, she has to know.
He holds out his hands, palms forward to her and she follows his lead, reaches up to lace their fingers together. “I like you, you know?” He asks, leans his weight against her hands. Some hands are just meant to be held.
She giggles like a child, pure and innocent and like nothing bad has ever happened to her. Like the childhood dog and all four grandparents are still kicking. “I can’t hold you up.”
“What?” He quirks a brow, leans more weight onto her hands and she laughs harder, her arms shaking below him.
“Charles!”
“I said I like you, Chris!”
Through weak arms and uncontrollable belly laughs, she manages to choke out in gulps for air, “I like you, too.” In a swift movement, he recenters his weight on his own feet, pulling Chris up from the couch. The force of his pull almost knocks her from her feet, both of them still laughing, fingers dancing with the others on either side of their frames. The laughter is light and airy and barely there, but it’s laughter nonetheless. When their hands do fall apart, their pinkies stay looped together without force, without any pull at all, just comfortably slotted against the other. “I really like you,” she adds, and her voice sounds like smiles look.
She blushes under her own words, over the entirety of their private moment, eyes darting from eyes to lips and back to eyes. “Yeah?” He asks quietly, like he’s scared asking might change her answer. She nods, biting down on the smile that paints her bottom lip, and it’s more than enough for him. She’s so good. She’s too good not to kiss.
He moves a hand to her jaw, thumbs her cheek with fingers slotted behind her ear, dancing along her hairline like a whisper of what’s to come. Like a promise. In the absence of his hand, hers finds his chest, just his thin Ferrari shirt separating her palm from the butterflies stirring wildly in his chest. “Me, too,” he says softly. Softer than she did, more to her lips—soft and pretty and his favorite shade of pink—than to her eyes. And then, either so softly only the atoms hear it, or maybe in his head entirely, “very much.”
And then he kisses her.
She tastes like mint chapstick and biscoff cookies and coffee. Her lips are soft, softer than they looked, softer than her voice. It’s like a boost of energy, kissing her. Like an immediate and complete charge.
She tightens her grip on his other pinky. Tightens it, loosens it, re-intertwines the whole hand somewhere off in the distance, far, far away from where he wishes to stay forever. This alone is worth a flight anywhere. Altitude sickness and limbs falling asleep and jet lag and headaches from screaming babies are all poor inhibitors when this would be waiting for him on the other side.
He pulls his hand from hers because it's just not close enough. Nothing is going to be close enough, but he’ll try his damndest to cup her jaw and pull her deeper into the kiss. Their noses bump awkwardly and they pull apart in a breathless laugh. Nothing more than a quick, shared smile and he’s kissing it off her face, tugging on her bottom lip with his teeth and letting her hum mumbles into his mouth. Teeth clacking and more laughing, so breathless it’s practically silent.
“Chris Elliott,” he says all sing-songy, just because he knows it’ll make her laugh. A quick peck, because he can. “You are something.”
“Charles Leclerc,” she mimics, wide eyes and raised brows and a beaming smile. A quick peck, because he’s never going to stop her. “Something good?”
He hums. “Something great.”
“You’re silly,” she says, and he laughs.
“Silly?” She nods. “You’re cute.” Chris rolls her eyes, but still has that child’s smile on her face and a pink flush to her cheeks. He kisses her again, quick, because he has a month to make up for.
“I know,” she retorts, deadpan. He laughs louder than any sane man should.

Joris, Arthur, and Andrea file into the room a few minutes later. Chris is leaning against the wall again, scrolling through her phone. She clicks it off when they walk in, shoves it deep into her purse pocket.
Andrea’s eyes bounce from Chris to Charles, and then back to Chris, holding out a hand for her to shake. “Andrea,” he greets, formal and cool.
“Chris,” she smiles, shakes the outstretched hand.
“Nice to meet you.”
“Yeah,” she nods. “You too.”
First bad impression. She doesn’t know what it is she did, but with the simple half-minute observation of his interactions with her versus the rest of the people in the room, it’s obvious he’s already soured on her.
Arthur, though, Arthur is almost off putting in his resemblance to Charles. Same voice, same face, certainly same bloodline. She thinks she could recognize him anywhere, probably. He, however, on his phone, doesn’t even notice Chris’ presence in the room until Joris elbows him on the sofa.
“Quoi?!” He exclaims in a defensive tone that transcends language barriers. The kind that only brothers know how to use.
“Hi,” Chris says, and Arthur’s head shoots from Joris to her in the doorway. He almost laughs, he’s so surprised by her presence. “I’m Chris,” she adds, holding out a hand only because he's sitting and she’s standing and a hug doesn’t feel logistically sound.
“Ah, Chris,” Arthur nods, shakes her hand. “Charles does not answer my phone calls because of you.”
“Oh,” she offers a weak smile. “I’m sorry about that.”
“No, no. I do not want to hear from him.”
Chris laughs. From the other side of the room, Charles chimes in, “then why are you calling me?”
Arthur rolls his eyes. “Maman say, ‘do you call Charles’ and I say ‘yes he does not answer me.’”
- - -
They run into Carlos and co. on the way to the sponsorship event. Chris tries to hang back towards the end of the group, back with Joris and Arthur and away from Charles, purely out of self preservation. They’d agreed in passing that everything would be much easier, hundreds of times simpler, if nobody knew Chris was there this weekend, if everything was kept under the radar. Charles, however, seems to have forgotten that agreement because, no matter how engaged he gets into a conversation, he is constantly looking for her in the group, reaching his hand out to her if she’s within distance to do so, keeping her as close to him as he can.
She keeps falling back though, falling into ranks. She doesn’t want to look like a girlfriend, because she isn’t.
Chris has no idea how to be a public… girl? A fling or a girlfriend or anything in between. She’s at home at a race track, yes, and during Chase’s championship winning season, she got stopped three times to take pictures with fans, but, really. Nobody has ever cared about what she’s doing or who she’s doing it with.
Walking in behind Carlos and Charles is like walking in behind celebrities. Everyone wants to shake their hands, to pat them on the shoulders and tell them this thing or another. There’s lots of languages being thrown around that she doesn’t recognize, accents she struggles to understand.
“This is crazy,” she says quietly, just to herself.
Arthur nudges her with his elbow to steal her attention, furrows his brows for a moment and holds up a quizzical thumbs up. Chris nods, smiles gratefully.
Charles promised that it was going to be nothing more than a quick stop at the event, and he meant it. They aren’t even there long enough to sit down. Instead they hang out in the back of the tent near the bar, watching Charles and Carlos talk on stage with several different people about how important this brand is for us.
They decide to go out to dinner after, despite Chris’ burning desire to go to sleep for a couple years. They get sat at a booth that’s probably made to hold no more than four people; Andrea and Joris on one side, Charles sandwiched between Chris and Arthur on either side. He finds her hand under the table, his thumb tracing along the lines of her fingers. Chris, against all urges to rest her head on his shoulder, rests it instead on the wooden divider between their booth and the neighboring one.
Arthur is the only one who struggles to speak English rather than his mother tongue, and while Charles corrects him each time, Chris doesn’t dare. She’d rather die than imply someone speaking in a second language needs to improve the way they speak it.
“Are you going to be with us all weekend?” Arthur asks around Charles’ frame.
“I’m actually going to be in the grandstands,” she smiles. Charles rolls his eyes.
“Oh?” Arthur asks, looks to his brother, but Joris beats him to the punch.
“You couldn’t get her a pass for the whole weekend?” Joris chirps. Andrea laughs and Charles reaches for the pass hung around her neck. She didn’t even realize she was the only person still wearing it until now. Charles flips the pass over, points out the FULL WEEKEND on the back.
“Her choice, not mine.”
She reaches to take the pass out of his hand, to pull it off over her head and put it into her purse. “I’m hoping for a drama-free weekend,” she says, and the boys laugh. Charles’ hand finds her thigh, gives it a little pat and a comfortable squeeze.
Tumblr media
Her hands are meant to be held, they really are. He could hold her hand until the moment she leaves, fingers locked together as they walk through the hotel corridor, empty and echoey with their voices and the sound of their feet on the carpet runner.
Once in the room, face to face together with the single bed, they both burst into laughter. He’s glad he cleaned things up before she got here, because the room was starting to look a little like his driver’s room–clothes strewn about messily, plastic water bottles on the end table, a television remote he lost the night he got here and hadn’t found until this morning. In the corner, Chris’ luggage sits beside the armchair, backpack neatly stacked with a single suitcase.
“Did you bring your whole wardrobe?” He jokes, and maybe it’s because he’s never been great at conveying jokes in English, or maybe it’s that they’re both absolutely exhausted, but the joke doesn't land. She’s immediately apologizing, spewing out a jumbled apology about I didn’t know what I was supposed to wear, and then– “I’m messing with you,” he says, and hates that she thinks he’d be that worked up over a suitcase, especially when he’d brought at least double what she had. She could have shown up with twenty suitcases and he still wouldn’t have thought it was too much because, well, she’s here. Right in front of him.
“Oh,” she pouts, and he kisses the look off her face. He’s wanted to do that since he saw it for the first time. “Oh. I like when you do that.” Good, he thinks. Get used to it.
They both make plans to shower; her before him. He’s on the couch in the living area of the suite when she re-emerges from the bathroom, the TV rolling and absentmindedly scrolling through his phone. When the sliding door to the bathroom opens, he looks up to watch her.
Her hair long down her back, carefully combed out so that the soaking ends turn the fabric of her sun-worn blue t-shirt a darker shade. It’s big on her–the shirt–hangs almost long enough that you wouldn’t be able to spot the flannel shorts underneath. He can still hear the sink running in the bathroom and she’s got a toothbrush in her mouth.
He whistles when she walks back from the bedroom towards the bathroom again, and she stops in the doorway, laughs around the toothbrush and does a sweet spin. “Bellissimo,” he says, gestures a chef’s kiss and she bows dramatically.
After his shower, he finds her in the bedroom, comfortably perched against the headboard, tucked under the crisp white duvet. The only light in the place is coming from her end table lamp, casting a soft shadow on her face, her knees pulled up close while she turns the pages of a book. He hovers around his suitcase watching her, completely in her own world, the only hint of her presence on this plane being the subtle lean into the light to better illuminate the pages she turns.
It’s not the first time he’s found himself looking at her like this. She’s easy to get lost in and almost never notices him staring. She just gets so focused on the task at hand–grading papers, cooking a meal, painting her nails, watching a television show, or like tonight, reading her current library rental.
“Do you want a water?” He asks. Her eyes don’t leave the page, a subtle shake of the head before she finally mumbles a no, thank you. He navigates the dark suite to the kitchenette, finds himself a plastic water bottle in the mini-fridge, and then he’s pulling back the comforter to climb into bed with her. “So, I was thinking tomorrow–” he starts, but she cuts him off with a singular finger held in the air. He can’t help but laugh, stupid smile on his face while he watches her eyes hurriedly finish the page, dog ear the tiniest fold onto the corner.
“Sorry,” she unapologetically offers, setting the book down on the end table. “What were you saying?”
“Uh, I don’t remember,” he says, because he lost it while he tried to guess what she was reading based on the little microexpressions that crossed her face. His eyes fall to the gold chain around her neck, to the small cross that lays over the blue fabric of her shirt. He’s noticed it dozens of times, it’s constant presence in every picture, every video, every call and outfit and event. He doesn’t even think when he reaches for it, examines it with gentle fingers. “Is this a, uh…” he struggles to find the word, “how do you say, family tradition?”
“Heirloom?”
He nods, drops the piece of jewelry back to its rightful spot. “Heirloom.”
“No, it was a birthday gift,” she explains, fingers the chain of it, “from my brother when I turned eighteen.”
He nods, points out the other necklace she’s wearing, a flower with a pearl in the center. “And this?”
She laughs, “it’s silly,” she says. “It goes with these earrings I have, they’re from my parents when I graduated college.” He learns the flower is a chrysanthemum, that her dad has always called her Mum, that her mom has a particular affinity for pearls that she’s passed onto Chris, that all of these things have combined into this piece of jewelry hanging around her neck and that she cried and cried when they gifted it to her.
Because the sun is still burning, he doesn’t stop asking about the different pieces she wears until he’s run out of ones to point to. He learns the story of a ruby ring–her birthstone–that she found in a thrift store for seventy-five cents when she was fifteen, how it used to fit on her pointer finger but now it fits her ring finger, how sometimes she makes up elaborate stories of how it ended up in the bargain bin of a Goodwill in North Georgia.
She tells him about three friendship bracelets. The first and second are made by students, her favorite gifts. The third, blue and yellow–NAPA colors, her brother’s racing colors–made by her nephew. “He’s four, and he is everything annoying about my brother and everything good about my best friend, and I think I would kill someone for him.” Charles is sure that tomorrow he’ll be telling someone they wouldn’t believe the way she lights up when she talks about this kid.
When he’s run out of things to question, she’s examining the red string tied around his wrist. “What about you?” She asks, “what’s up with this guy?”
“My mate, Pierre. He learns about it from our other friend Yuki,” He explains. “They always know the strangest things, Pierre and Yuki,” he chuckles, continues to explain the traditional symbol of good luck. “I don’t know how well it works, though,” he laughs, and she kisses him. It surprises him, but he’s in no place to complain. Perhaps the bracelet works quite well, he thinks when she moves closer, snuggles under his arm while he continues.
Three metal bracelets. One red, one silver, one stainless steel. Morse code: Amour, Bonheur, Smile. A ring that matches the bracelet. Two hex rings that track his heart rate and his sleep and a million other things.
He spins the rings while he talks, pulls them off and hands one to her without missing a beat in his sentence. She toys with it while she listens, hands it back to him with a quiet yawn. When he kisses her hair, it’s still damp and smells like the shampoo she used, something he can’t place, something he hopes eventually to memorize. “You’re cute when you’re sleepy.”
“You told me that last week.”
“I know,” another kiss against the unfamiliar scent. “I meant it.”

Charles wants to order room service for breakfast. Chris shuts that idea down the minute it comes out of his mouth, furrowing her brows and making him attempt to rationalize waiting half an hour for food that’s five minutes away. He can’t, so they head to the lobby.
Chris is wearing the same shirt, pulls a pair of sweatpants over her flannel shorts and ties her hair into a messy, tangled ponytail. She’d keep it down, but her hair dried while she slept and it’s pointing in directions that defy gravity. A ponytail was the only option. Charles doesn’t change, keeps the t-shirt and shorts he slept in on.
They find Andrea in the lobby, eating at a table for two by himself. Charles pulls a chair over from a nearby table and they sit down with him. By the time Joris appears, the table is officially too full of food to comfortably function.
She hears his phone vibrate against the hard plastic of his chair, and he casually mentions that the rest of his family is on their way down.
Chris doesn’t react, not externally, anyways. She finishes what’s left in her mug, bee-lines it over to the coffee bar to make another. Absent-mindedly, she tears the foil from the creamer cups, rips open the sugar packets and stirs it all together. His mom. His mom. His mom. It’s all she can think about. His mother. The woman who gave him life. Chris knew she’d be meeting his mom this weekend, but she figured she’d have more preparation than a couple minutes warning, assumed she’d be dressed, hair styled, makeup done. That she’d be presenting herself as someone you’d be happy to have your son spend time with, not like a  7/11 customer in Dahlonega at one in the morning. Maybe Charles was right and room service was a good idea.
Even once she’s back at the table, every elevator ding makes her jump, shoots her head in the direction of the opening doors just terrified the people walking out are going to be his family.
“Are you good?” Charles asks after she flinches at the third elevator bell.
“Yup,” she lies, slaps a big, phony smile on her face and takes a sip of her coffee. His hand finds her leg, gives it a little you’ll be fine squeeze.
The next elevator is carrying his family. She instinctively straightens in her seat, moves things around the crowded table so her food looks neat and managed. Joris looks at her with concern, Charles laughs when she refolds a napkin. “Don’t laugh at me,” she whispers.
Out of earshot, Arthur says something through a stretch and a yawn. His mom rolls her eyes, pushes him in the direction of the coffee bar, mutters something to his other brother that makes him chuckle. When his mom spots Chris, she makes a bee-line for her with open arms. Chris practically trips over the leg of her chair trying to stand up before the hug reaches her.
“Come here, chérie,” she smiles. It’s warm, just like her boy’s. “I have heard so much about you.” Oh? Chris smiles, suddenly aware that she’s apparently horribly unprepared for this entire introduction. He’s telling his mother about her?
She hugs Pascale back and looks over her shoulder to Charles with wide eyes. She’s met with a matching expression, Charles shrugging and shaking his head as if to adamantly tell her he has no idea what his mom is talking about. “And what have you heard, Maman?” He asks with a laugh.
“Don’t start with me,” she says, wagging a finger at her boy, and then to Chris, “Ignore him.” She holds her at arm's length, hands on either shoulder and looks her up and down. Chris laughs, nervous but still noticeably genuine. “You are just beautiful, aren’t you?”
Well. Beautiful isn’t a word Chris would use to describe herself at this moment. Ratty, perhaps. Disheveled. Off-putting. But sure, beautiful is a word she might sometimes describe herself as. “Me?” She shakes her head, “ma’am, look at yourself.”
“Oh, please,” his mom scoffs. “Pascale.”
“Pascale.” Chris smiles, goes in for another hug.
Whether it’s because he’s a brother and not a mother, or because meeting said mother is done and over with, Chris is significantly less anxious when it comes to her introduction with Lorenzo.
Chris attempts to insist Pascale take her seat, but is out-insisted to finish her breakfast. Charles finds her hand under the table, winks at her when she interlocks her fingers with his.
– – –
Outside of their shared breakfast, Saturday is a long day apart for Chris and Charles. A quick kiss goodbye in their hotel room when Charles finishes getting ready, a quicker “good luck,” from Chris called after him on his way out the door, and a thumbs up over his head as a response summarizes their interactions for the rest of the day.
Chris works on next week’s lesson plans for a few hours, nothing better to do while she waits to leave for the track.
She watches the third practice session and quali from the grandstand across from the pitlane, and while neither are his greatest showing, Chris can feel it in her bones that everything is going to fall into place for him tomorrow. A third place start is more than good enough to beat out Perez at Red Bull. She knows it like she knows her own name, and nobody is going to tell her otherwise.
She goes back to the hotel after quali, doesn’t bother to attempt sneaking into the paddock to try and find him. It just doesn’t feel worth it–navigating a place she doesn’t know, avoiding the cameras and the reporters and the chaos–not when he’ll be coming back to the hotel, back to her.
She falls asleep moments after sitting down on the couch, and isn’t woken up until she doesn’t even know when. It’s the middle of the night, Charles tells her, guides her to bed and tucks her in like a child, complete with a kiss on the forehead.
- - -
The first words out of her mouth on Sunday morning are an apology.
When Charles tries to cut her off with a laugh and a kiss, she stops him just short of her lips, claiming morning breath. “Wow,” he feigns shock. “First you fall asleep on me, now you will not kiss me?”
She rolls her eyes, grabs the back of his neck and pulls him down to kiss her. “Happy?”
He nods and kisses her again. He keeps waiting for it to not feel so exciting, so much like a stupid movie, so young, and it’s yet to reach that point. It’s not even coming close. “Yes, thank you.”
From the other side of the bathroom wall she dares to ask him if he’s nervous, if the pressure is finally manifesting itself into stress. He’s quiet for a while.
“No,” he eventually calls back.
“No?”
He peels around the doorway, messing with the collar on his team shirt. “Yes,” he admits with a scale-breaking sigh. She wishes he was as sure as himself as she is, that he could feel in his bones it is all going to work out perfectly.
“Well, I’ll be here when you’re done, and we can either celebrate Charles Leclerc, Vice World Champion,” he turns away at the title, the side profile of a smile turning the corner back into the bathroom. “Or, we can celebrate the end of an exhausting season. Either way, we’re celebrating.” He stays quiet. “Okay?”
“Yeah,” he finally speaks, tone lackluster, unconfident. It’s hard to hear him like this, to hear the distinct shards of doubt that rattle in his chest. “We’re celebrating.”
We’re celebrating. Tonight is a celebration. The positives with the negatives, the good always outweighs the bad. She reminds herself like it’s a mantra. Tonight is a celebration.
- - -
Alone in the grandstands with an air of certainty about her, Chris’ bar for friendship has never been lower. She finds a group of girlfriends who appear to be sort-of, almost, kind-of, maybe in the same age demographic as she is. They speak English and don’t ignore her when she talks, and that’s enough for her to latch onto for the evening.
We like McLaren, they tell her, But those Ferrari boys–they’re cute. You can’t help but feel for them. Chris just smiles and nods, offers up a laugh and pretends she won’t be falling asleep next to one of those cute boys later tonight.
The girls–flew in from London on Friday just for this-fill her in on everything she already knows. They tell her about Charles and his fight for P2, about the strategic pitfalls of Ferrari and the fact that on paper, it was Charles’ year to win it all.
They’re more nervous during the race than Chris is, not to say that her leg isn’t bouncing watching the times constantly changing, that she isn’t whispering mumbles prayers into the air between here and there, just that she knows. She knows.
If it was possible to stare through a helmet, Chris would’ve done it during his pitstop, burning the confidence right into his frontal lobe. Her eyes are glued to his car, his helmet, distant and small and buzzing with energy. He’s got it under control, like a perfectly wrapped gift sat in his lap, like a row of monkey bars and hands hardened by months of blisters, like a first kiss and a second kiss and a third kiss. He’s got it under control.
He does, because after what feels simultaneously like the longest and shortest fifty-eight laps of her life, Chris practically has a front row seat to Charles doing donuts. She’s so happy that she thinks she might cry, not that it takes much of anything to pull a tear from her when she’s this exhausted. The girls she’d befriended jump and celebrate and cheer louder than the fireworks.
Chris tries to live the moment. To feel it all, the energy and the roar and the joy, which only makes it that much harder not to cry.
Suddenly, momentarily, irrationally emotionally, while she watches him celebrate with his family and his team in front of the whole world she wishes she was down there with him. Screw the world watching, she wants to hug him until her arms are numb and kiss him until she passes out.
There’s no telling when–or even if–she’s going to ever live through a moment like this again. It’s not one she wants to forget. In the chaos of it all, her hand finds her chest, the hard metal of her cross necklace through the fabric of her top, the pulsing of her heartbeat, loud and racing.
Tumblr media
It’s hours before he’s back to the hotel, but it doesn’t feel late at all. He’s still running on adrenaline, just as ready to celebrate as he was when he jumped into his team’s arms. Over the mechanical shifting of the door lock, he can hear Chris’ feet echoing on the floor just on the other side and before he can even make it through the doorway she’s crashing into him. The pure energy that she is knocks him back a few steps, but then he’s hugging her back just as hard, maybe harder.
He can feel her tears soak through his shirt, and with a laugh asks if she’s crying.
“Shut up,” she says, and it only makes him laugh harder, hug tighter. God, the show he would have put on if he could’ve found her right after the race. The trouble he would make. “Oh, my god!” She sniffles, pulls her head off his chest and wipes away her tears. “Kiss me, already!”
And so he does. He kisses the shit out of her.
She pulls away with a smile, arms slinked around his neck like it belongs to her. “So, how does it feel?” She asks, “Vice World Champion, Charles Leclerc.”
He gives her a quick kiss, nothing more than a peck, shrugs, and repeats the action. “Too busy kissing the girl.”
“You’re such an idiot,” she laughs, drops her head so it’s against his chest and vibrates his entire being. It’s a laugh that lights stars, dances around the room like a windchime in the warm August air. The kind so distinct you could hear it across a room ten years later and still know it was her. “A walking cheeseball.”
“A cheeseball?” He humors.
“I said what I said.”
His satisfied hum says more than words ever could, fingers comfortable dancing along the bone of her hip. “We gotta get ready,” he says.
“For what?”
“The celebration.”

Travelling to Rome.
Who knew I’d hate flying 200x more with a toddler in the mix. Just like lining up to check bags, go through security and all that was a nightmare! Roman was tired and feral and just bolting through all the barriers and off limit areas and just tantruming in my arms when ever I tried to stop him. Anxiety level 5000. At least he is cute?
We got to the airport a little early and went to the lounge to just chill and get some decent food, and let Roman have a squiggle and a sleep before our flight at 2:45. The lounge had a kids section and was Plato g paw patrol. And just the excitement in general meant Roman did not have a nap. But that was ok cos maybe it meant he would sleep on the plane.
We got on the plane and took off, Roman was entertained by some weird dog show on the plane entertainment system. SO MUCH TIRBULENCE! Literally gasped out loud numerous times. Broke Ashley’s hand squeezing it. And was certain we were going to die. Spoiler alert. We didn’t!
Roman got his own kids meal which he basically ate none of and ended up eating Ash and my pasta. So Ash and I went hungry. Roman started getting overtired and feral again. It was getting close to 10pm. Roman hadn’t slept in 15 hours. Finally he fell asleep but woke in hysterics 40mins later much to everyone around us’s dismay. So paw patrol went on and eventually he fell back asleep and maybe got 4 hours total. Meanwhile Ash and I watched half a movie. The iron claw. There was no second movie Nyssa. Cos I know you would ask. We watched like nothing, we ate nothing, we drank nothing, we didn’t sleep. Flying with a toddler is a very different experience 😵‍💫
We had a four hour stop over in Abu Dhabi, which was perfect time wise. Just enough time for Ash time grab a burger. Go for a walk and meet some camel statues, Roman loves Alice the camel so this was a win for a very tired 2 year old.
Second flight Roman fell asleep with minutes. Ash and I both managed to doze off. We woke what we assumed was 4 hours later. It had only been an hour. So over flying at the point and Roman was busting with energy, jumping and climbing and throwing things everywhere. Finally we landed, sped through immigration cos we had a bambino. Got a taxi to our hotel which is literally 7 mins from the colosseum. It was 8am and check in was at 2pm and we couldn’t get in earlier so we headed to the colosseum to look around. But before that we were told we could head up to our hotel roof for our complimentary breakfast! So we did! It’s the cutest little spot with a view of the colosseum. We got our first delicious coffee in forever, and a whole heap of pastries and fruit and juice. Fuel for us to head out for the day!
Roman was obsessed with the cobblestone paths. And of course this is when he decided to poo (after 3 days of none). So very stressful hour for him trying to do that and us finding places to change him and quickly running out of nappies.
We found a park and decided to just hang out there, we found a playground Roman loved, so much so that we had to bribe him to leave by saying we would find ice cream. We bought 2 ice creams to share. Roman ate both. When in Rome? Roman full of sugar was in a much better mood so we ventured around the park which was full of ruins. But Roman didn’t care. He remembered we had mentioned there would be cats so he was on the hunt. And guess what?! He found 3! He ran after them which gave Ash a heart attack cos rabies, didn’t help when Roman grabbed the cats tail as it tried to run away.
We were all exhausted when the hotel finally called to say our room was ready, I had to carry Rome all the way back. He was so tired. Finally making it into our room we all had a nap and woke 2 hours later.
Even though we were all tired we knew we should head out to keep us all awake so we headed to the Peroni brewery. Again had to carry Roman the whole way, I’m getting quite the workout. We grabbed a table and ordered our first pasta of the trip and got Roman some sausage and chips. Which he loved! It was a cute little Italian brewery/restaurant! We couldn’t stay too long cos Roman was tired and close to losing it, but we managed to get him to leave with the promise of ice cream. I promise we are better parents than this in Sydney. So off we went in search of gelato! Finding a little corner store we grabbed him a cone and sat of some stairs where he enjoyed his ice cream and pointing out all the pigeons, cos apparently we don’t have them in Sydney and they are therefore very exciting to find here. We carried him home and just chilled out. It was only an hour until we would try to get him to sleep. We have a family room with 2 giant beds and a cot set up for us. Roman fell asleep in the cot but woke 2 hours later and we brought him in bed. He slept from 7pm till 2am and we honestly thought that was going to be it for the night. But then after an hour he fell back asleep and slept through till 7:30am. Best birthday present ever for Ash who also managed to get 12 hours of sleep! So I guess the lack of sleep on our trip paid off and kind of helped with the jet lag!

66 of The World's Best-Value Attractions and Worst Tourist Traps
Tumblr media
The Burj Khalifa looms over Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Back in early 2012, I bounded up to the ticket booth at the then-new, 2,722-foot Burj Khalifa in Dubai, hoping to snag a last-minute elevator ride to the top of the world's tallest skyscraper. Taking a seven-hour tourist detour from a business stay in neighboring Abu Dhabi, I had little on my to-do list for my quick day trip to the ultra-wealthy Mideast city-state, apart from the view from that iconic building's 124th floor observation deck. Much to my disappointment, tickets were sold out for the next few days. I consoled myself with a camel-milk ice cream cone and plaintive window-shopping in the high-end mega-mall at the base of the Burj. Turns out I might not have missed out on much. According to a new ranking of worst and best values among the world's top tourist attractions — and, in some cases, traps — the Burj Khalifa comes in near No. 1 ... for disappointment. More from Personal Finance: Here are the world's cheapest and priciest cities How to pick the best travel rewards credit card This app makes clearing customs a breeze The U.K. offices of French resort chain Club Med released the findings of a study of 66 of the globe's most visited tourist draws, comparing typical entry fees with "social media sentiment" data from Paris research firm Linkfluence to award each site a score from 1 to 10 on value for money. The Burj, where basic entry fees start at about $40, only scored 5.6 out of 10 points — despite its towering reputation as a must-see. That landed it in the No. 60 spot, out of 66 sites. The building fared poorly due to its high entry fee and — despite its storied height — limited views, said a Club Med spokesperson. It was only under-performed for value, according to the study's metrics, by several theme parks run by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products and Universal Parks & Resorts. (Disclosure: CNBC and Universal Parks & Resorts are both subsidiaries of NBCUniversal, owned by parent Comcast.) It should be noted Club Med does compete with Disney and Universal hotel and resort properties (if not theme parks, per se) in at least one market, central Florida, and for overall vacation spending by tourists. On a positive note, the best tourist attraction in terms of value for money is the Peterhof Palace outside St. Petersburg, Russia. The ornate, gilded and fountain-laden complex, built by Peter the Great in the 18th century, charges around $19 for entrance and boasts 100% satisfaction from social media users who visit. That earned it a top score of 9.6 out of 10 and a description as "the must-see landmark of 2020" by Club Med. Other classic international attractions that also rank high for value include the Eiffel Tower, Egypt's Pyramids, the Colosseum in Rome, the Great Wall of China and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. Two U.S. attractions made it into Club Med's Top 10: Utah's Great Salt Lake came in at No. 2, with a 9.4 rating, while Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado made No. 4, racking up 9.2 points. Other American sites deemed good value include Arizona's Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon, ranked 14th and 19th, respectively; Zion National Park in Utah, at No. 17; and Yosemite National Park in California, coming in at 20th place. Club Med also broke out the best theme parks worldwide for value. Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, tops that list with a score of 9.0, but the U.S. is no slouch, either: Six Flags' Hurricane Harbor Phoenix in Arizona is ranked No. 2, with 100% customer satisfaction, and Fun Spot America in Kissimmee, Florida, came in at No. 5. Fountains in the garden of Peterhof Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. Glow Images Nathalie Drew, marketing director at Club Med, shared five tips on how to save while visiting the world's biggest tourist draws — whatever their ranking: Check in advance for online offers: "Sometimes, buying tickets in advance or looking for discount codes is a great way to save," she said, in a statement. "Also, be aware some attractions require advance booking and may be sold out if you just show up on the day." Get the best exchange rate: "Better rates mean better savings," noted Drew. "If you're buying entry tickets online, some sites will let you decide whether to pay in local currency or . Make sure to check your bank's rates when doing so, as you may end up out of pocket." Look for alternative ticket types: "Look out for discounted family deals or other passes," she added. "For example, full weekend tickets often cost less than paying for two days separately." Visit at off-peak times: "Weekdays are often cheaper than weekends (not to mention quieter), so take advantage if your schedule permits." Hit national parks instead: "Theme parks are fun, but almost always expensive," said Drew. "Consider visiting a national park or museum instead, and you should have more cash in your back pocket to spend on food and drink." For the full results and methodology of the Club Med study, which used Linkfluence data from October 2018 through September 2019, click here. Read the full article

Spring in Korea (Part 2)
Saya nyesel sih sebenarnya :’)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fyi, souvenir di Korea yang saya temui semuanya made in Korea. Beda dengan negara lain yang pernah dikunjungi, yang dimana-mana souvenirnya made in c* dan bahkan made in Indonesia. Disini hampir seluruhnya Made in Korea.
To be Continued untuk hari selanjutnya!

Scratching The Map One Place At A Time: My Travel Map
Did you know?
An average Britisher has visited seven countries outside of the UK in his or her life.
And 86% of Indian households never take a trip.
And by that standard, I am considered a globetrotter in my circle and by my readers. However, when I started putting down my travel stories in Tripadvisor and rating places I was visiting, I realized that I had travelled only 10% of the world.
Like any typical Indian tourist, my travel journey started by covering Asia first and only then did I think of going beyond.
Somewhere in between my thirst for travel grew larger, the exposure became better and I became a traveller who looked beyond destination travelling, marking selfies at tourist spots and started digging for experiences.
In this post, I have jotted down bits of my travel journey. These are the places where I have created many memories which I am going to cherish for life. Two things I would like to reiterate here is; always be on guard if travelling solo, research and pick up safe places for women and always buy overseas travel insurance. You never know when you might need it. Travel to explore and if these things are sorted most stress is left behind.
  NEPAL
I travelled to Nepal last year to trek to the Everest Base Camp which had been on my bucket list forever. I trekked for fourteen days and most of my beautiful memories are of the stunning landscapes of Labouche and Gorakshep (small settlements that you cross on the trip) and, of course, of the sister mountains Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse. I did a little bit of sightseeing in Kathmandu also but, unsurprisingly, the trek was the more stunning part of my trip. You can read here to know all about the trek and my experience.
  JAPAN
Japan is one of the best places I have ever visited and is closest to my heart. Some of the experiences which one can have in Japan are soaking in the healing waters at an Onsen, learn about their Japanese culture during the tea ceremony dressed in a Kimono, fill your taste buds by having matcha flavoured ice creams, cakes, noodles and so much more. You can try the Ramen bowls there and visit their maid cafes! Who says Japan can be expensive? Live at the pod hotels, also known as capsule hotels, to handle your budget. How can we forget Mt. Fuji, it is just too beautiful! Just make sure you plan your trip to Japan during the Cherry Blossom Season. There are many other places to visit when in Japan, so ensure you plan well and make your trip a memorable one because Japan is beautiful!
  CAPE TOWN
At the southernmost tip of the continent
Capetown is a place full of scenic beauty, beautiful atmosphere and good people. When at Capetown you can look for sightseeing at the following places among others: Aquila Safari, The Table mountain, Cape of Good Hope, Robben Island, and Stellenbosch. You can also take a visit to the Simonstown and greet the Penguins and the Seals there. You can also opt for some water sports activities so as to get closer to them (Keynote: Penguins are cute from far and dangerous from nearby).  It’s a beautiful place to explore with the sea, mountain, wineries and city life all enrolled in one.  This place will leave you content with a bunch of memories.
EUROPE
Paris: Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to visit the fashion capital of the world. When I did get to Paris last year with my family, Paris turned out to be way more than the stories of romance, Eiffel tower, and fashion make it. It is a modern city that has history embedded in every corner and, trust me, it’s nothing short of a paradise!
                                                            This one needs no Introduction
Amsterdam: Can be rated as one of the friendliest cities in Europe. There is a certain vibe in the city that is very infectious. Visiting Anne Frank’s house in the city, and just walking around the city square was one of my favourite experiences. I found the Red light area walking tour also very interesting. The kids enjoyed Ripley’s Believe It or Not A Museum, Keukenhoff, Microbes museum and evening cruise in the canal soaking in the Amsterdam lights and views.
                                 The Famous Amsterdam Redlight Area
Berlin: I was very impressed with the city and the food. Berlin is one of the most reasonably priced cities in Europe. Unlike what I had heard, the Germans were friendly and helpful folks. You walk through history while walking past any street in Berlin and the pages turn back. You go through the city experiencing the reign and terror of Hitler. It’s odd seeing his Chancellory quarters and his bunker site, which is not even marked as Germans want to forget him. There are memorials of millions who died because of him all over the city. Jewish Synagogue, the post office, memorials, Holocaust all give you goosebumps. You can also enter a real bunker which was built to be used in case of a nuclear attack and still stands intact, unused.

  SINGAPORE
Singapore makes for a perfect family getaway. Places to visit when in Singapore include the Singapore Zoo, Sentosa Island, Universal Studios, Gardens by the bay and many more. This city is a complete package deal as it is close to India, has adventurous spots along with a buzzing city life!
                                                                                The Universal Studios, Singapore
  HONG KONG
The city of seven lakes surrounded by picturesque mountains, Hong Kong is also a bustling cosmopolitan. Laden with many theme parks and Disneyland, it makes for a perfect family outing. You can take the Historical tram to the top from where you can glance at the whole Hong Kong. Then there is Macau, which is known for gaming and its casinos, but there are some other things as well which you can opt for at Macau like House of Dancing waters, Dream works experience, Macau Towers and so much more.
Disneyland at HongKong
  MALAYSIA
When in Malaysia, the places you can visit there are Langkawi, Genting Highlands, Batu Caves, Legolands etc! Malaysia is all about beautiful beaches, water sports, and scenic beauty so just go there and relax!
                                                                         The Berjaya Resort, Langkawi
MAURITIUS
It is an island full of tropical plants and beautiful beaches. I also celebrated my last birthday there. If you love beaches and water sports, then this place is absolutely perfect for you.

  ICELAND
I have always been a beach person but after visiting Iceland I have turned into a mountain person as well. When in Iceland, you can opt for trekking the way I did, or else you can go for exploring this beautiful place through the amazing experiences like getting into a glacier, Whale watching, watch Natural Geysers, Experience Geothermal spa, visit the Black Sand Beach etc. Do visit Iceland once in your life, it is worth it!
Trekking in Iceland
LAS VEGAS AND GRAND CANYON
A paradise for all the ones who love clubbing, drinking and gambling at the casinos. But No, that’s not the only thing Vegas is meant for. You should also visit the Grand Canyon, The ‘O’ Show, one can book any speed cars and Limo’s if you wish to. You could get this within 100$!  There are many other spots to visit when in Vegas, wishing to go back there soon someday so as to take those places off my bucket list!

SAN FRANCISO
I visited SF in 2016 and I can’t get the sight of the Golden Gate Bridge out of my memories. While it’s red and not Golden, it is magnanimous and just stunning. Most people with families choose to stay in the suburbs due to the affordability of larger housing. I loved shopping in SF as it’s full of deals and since this was my first visit to the US, I had no idea that the stuff  you can buy in the US is cheaper than any part of the world that I have been too. Especially loved the outlet malls for branded clothing, bags and sunglasses.
In a tram near the Golden Gate Bridge
  NEW YORK
New York feels like my home city as it is just like Mumbai! Well, this was a very short trip but I almost covered all the places which were on my list: the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State building, the Central Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Statue of liberty and the Times Square. I hope to go back someday and spend some more time there.
                                                                                      The Times Square
  DUBAI and ABU DHABI:
The sand dunes and tall buildings with the luxurious lifestyle are the best parts of Dubai. It has some really good spots to visit like The Palms and the Jumeirah road where you can find five to seven-star hotels and the best collection of cars. Then there is the Dubai Mall, Emirates Mall, Gold Souk, breathtaking monuments like Burj Khalifa, Skyscrapers, and even beaches. The desert safari that you experience in Dubai made even my parents jump in their seats in excitement!
Abu Dhabi is a place which will give you a breathtaking as well as a soothing experience. Soothing because of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, a visit there will let you attain serenity and its architecture will win your heart! The Ferrari World at Abu Dhabi is one of the best-themed parks in the world which will make your hearts go Vroom! There are many other spots to visit when at Abu Dhabi so do visit and make your trip a fabulous one! I personally found a lot more character in Abu Dhabi than Dubai.
                           Dubai Mall
THAILAND – BANGKOK
We visited Bangkok when my younger one was just 1.5 years old and Bangkok is like any other Indian city in its looks, the shopping is amazing. Their food is definitely something I look for wherever I travel. Even though we had such a small kid with us, we never felt tired or drained out because the people there just love kids. They offer to play with them while you get a massage or even babysit them while you are having food at a restaurant. So yes, found the city very kid friendly.

Biking With Vintage Upcycled Charicycles in Dubai
We can all relate to the amazing feeling of riding a bicycle... The breeze against your face while feeling the movement of all of your muscles, a sentiment that makes you appreciate the freedom of being on one.
Since the 1800's many different versions of the bicycle have been created, deriving from the french word bicyclette, German Baron Karl von Drais, a civil servant to the Grand Duke of Baden in Germany, was the one that created what was considered to be the first verifiable bicycle.
He patented his design in 1818, which was known as the first two wheeled, steerable, human machine, called the 'velocipedes, hobby-horse or dandy horse.
In the beginning, bicycles were seen more so for the elite, as it was an expensive hobby so to speak, but as soon they were becoming more and more popular and production started to increase, they became a practical asset. Women were soon riding bicycles, and with that came the change in fashion with bloomers in and corsets out!
And while evolution may have changed the frame and wheels of the bicycle, today we can still see traces of the first bicycle made, although ours just carry a little more pzaz.
While some of you may think that Dubai is still not so friendly on biking, things are starting to change! A new initiative was recently launched #cycletoworkuae that's encouraging everyone to start cycling, there are some cool spots to check out, if you haven't already done so that we highly recommend.
"In the heart of Dubai, the Nadd Al Sheba Cycle Path offers 8km, 6km and 4km loops that are just for cyclists. These are floodlit at night and have amenities like showers to use afterwards. Further out of town, the Al Qudra cycle path is an 86km cycle route through the desert. The UAE's burgeoning cycling community has found ways to make this a civilised affair: their regular Saturday morning ride to Bab Al Shams resort beside the cycle path."
With Dubai investing a lot in building more cycling paths, it seems our life of bicycling in Dubai is just beginning! Lucky us!
Now imagine being able to ride a bike that you were able to customize?!
With Charicycles, you can do just that. Like a tailor, you tailor make your bike. A bike with a basket, one that you could paint whatever color you want- from cotton candy blue, to macaroon mint ice cream.
Descending from a historic lineage of the Japanese bicycle, they find bicycle frames that have been forgotten about or put aside and restore them into the beautiful bikes they once were with an added vintage twist. The beauty of up-cycling... An art in itself. Why add waste to the environment when you can make something old perfectly new again?!
Embedded in their culture is the mere simplistic thought that every child deserves to feel that sense of freedom we all feel when riding a bike.
To add to that culture, as much as we think breakfast is important for a child's brain to function, the way a child gets to school is just as important. The factor of exercising the brain. A research recently done, found that children who walked or rode their bicycle to school did much better on tests than their peers who rode the school bus or got a lift.
A child can learn both balance and coordination skills when riding a bicycle, while increasing stamina. Starting to build your muscles at a young age, moving your hip and knee joints only helps you later on as an adult. Especially if you continue riding. For both children and adults going for a bike ride can do wonders for the mind. It is also considered to be one of the sports that causes less injury and strain to the body even while working all your muscles.
With that being said and the weather being perfect in Dubai, now's the time to head out to the corniche, where you can cycle from Jumeirah beach hotel to Sunset beach. A gorgeous view that will have you smiling the whole ride.
You can also use the dedicated track that's approximately 1.5 km, riding up to Jumeirah Open Beach at the top of Jumeirah Beach Road, right next to Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa.
There are many cycling groups out there and some specifically tailored for women. For example, @uaecyclingforgirls on Instagram, meets on weekends for recreational cycling around downtown Dubai, Emaar boulevard, Dubai Cycling Course and Dubai parks. The Extempore Abu Dhabi Ladies Bicycle Group in Abu Dhabi meet on Fridays, to bike, have coffee, and enjoy a beautiful day of cycling in the capital.
With over a half billion bicycles in China and approximately 100 million bicycles manufactured worldwide each year, it's time we in the UAE step up our cycling game!
You are on en route to a gorgeous up-cycled vintage bicycle that you had a hand in making and more importantly, had a hand in making a child smile.
