Going through movies from the past that were set in the future, except that future is now our past (2001: A Space Odyssey style)
This is going to be a longish series so I'm going to make this a reblog chain, here's the current list I've made using IMDB. Here's the list lol
2019: after the fall of new york (1983) Defcon 2012 (2010)(edited) 2012 Ice Age (2011) 2012 (2009) tamala 2010: a punk cat in space (2002) 2010: the year we make contact (1984) 2009: lost memories (2002) 2002 (2001) 2001: a space travesty (2000) 2001: a space odyssey (1968) Equalizer 2000 (1987) Fantasia 2000 (1999) Death Race 2000 (1987)(edited) Cherry 2000 (1975) Blues Brothers 2000 (1998) Summer vacation 1998 (1988) Class of 1999 (1990) 1984 (1956) Class of 1984 (1982)
I've already watched Death Race 2000, and Defcon: 2012, so I'll put those first. I'd be lying if I said these were in any particular order
Death Race 2000
rating: 4/10
If you're going to watch this and enjoy it you need to know that it's a political satire from the start, and bizarrely funny. Unfortunately, it doesn't really make its point clear until the last five minutes, which is "America is gratuitously violent and there's no fucking reason for that" and "if anyone disagrees with that, hit them with a car"
The actual premise is "What if in the year 2000, America turned into a gratuitously violent, near-global state that celebrated each year with a cross-country race where racers try to hit as many people as possible. And also, what if there was a group who didn't like that and tried to stop it by matching a rebel leader's granddaughter in shotgun with the only two time winner of the cross-country race?"
Interesting notes:
there is a nazi flag in the first five minutes, and a character duo who have nazism as their motif. Because it's a political satire and it's a mile marker to show the level of issues involved. However they do end up driving off a cliff and there's an extended explosion scene
disappointingly, the guy who's supposedly gotten in multiple car crashes and has several prosthetics has no physical evidence of that
surprisingly, he DOES look like he designed his own (fake) leather dom outfit, cape included, with only vague descriptions of what one looks like
there's the funniest fight scene ever about an hour into the movie between this guy and another guy (played by Sylvester Stallone) dressed like a 30s gangster, while sax plays
Defcon: 2012
rating: 2/10 generally, 7/10 if you're genuine about enjoying it
I'm 100% sure this was someone's film school project, and if you like the idea of a 2010 emo dystopia movie filmed almost entirely in an abandoned mall, with three out of *maybe* eight characters voiced by TTS, you'll like this.
The actual premise is "local tormented teen and co. go to a supposedly abandoned Earth to go scavenger hunting, but discover an underground human community, and the real way Earth was taken over (it involves imperialism)"
Interesting notes:
Pretty much every single scene without talking is overlaid with EDM and 2010 metal. The soundtrack's pretty good actually
One of the characters wears a CGI'd helmet, and I'm honestly impressed by the amount of effort put into editing it
I'm 90% sure the person who made this watched Battlestar Galactica from the filters over every scene
It's written like the person who made it has just learned they can say the fuck word and not get in trouble
I'm also pretty sure one of the cast members is the mom of another one of the cast members. Good for her
Shoutout to a couple throwaway lines about how colonization is bad and how in the story, the 2012 Mayan calendar thing actually has nothing to do with it (even though it seems like it initially). Surprisingly anticapitalist implications overall, I wish this was focused on more
Only problem I have with the movie is that I think it wrapped up too quickly, which seemed beyond the control of the people who were making it so I can't fault them for that really

﹙ ⏳ ﹚ ׅ ׅ ׅ CHRONOS SEVEN is a south korean boy group managed by HYBE LABELS, debuting on march 11, 2019. the current lineup consists of SAMUEL, MINJUN, DAEHWI, QIAN &&. EVERETT. the group is well known as “txt’s brother group”, but never quite reached the same success. originally debuting with two additional members – LEE and ELLIE, who would depart only three days after debut – chronos seven, also referred to as CROSS, would release their debut single ICE AGE exactly one week after txt.
the boys are well known for being self-produced, as hybe put them on the backburner after their initial hype died. every now and then a release of theirs goes viral, with their most notable releases being TURN BACK TIME and FANTASIA. their sound is nothing short of unique, with the group being acclaimed for following their own trends instead of focusing on becoming mainstream. this has, however, caused a rift between the group and potential listeners.
the group are also well known for their lore, which fans refer to as RIFT VALLEY. it follows the story of five time travellers who are separated into many different timelines, and trying to reunite by collecting time crystals. each comeback further develops this story, with creative director MIYU ISHIIDA assisting in moving the story along. despite this, chronos seven is hybe’s most lackluster group.

Western Animated Movie Sequel Timeline
For reference... On how few theatrical animated movie sequels were made in the West vs. how many have been made since the early 2000s... (Streaming titles like THE SEA BEAST 2 will be included, because these are big budget enough to have been theatrical releases.)
Titles highlighted in blue have commas in them, this denotes that you're not looking at two separate titles. (Just in case you happen to not know-)
I also won't include reboots. For example: The upcoming Paramount Animation film TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM, which despite being a TMNT movie, it has no other relation to the Imagi Studios 2007 TMNT movie. The same goes for the two SMURFS reboots, 2017's THE LOST VILLAGE and Paramount's untitled upcoming musical.
I'll also leave out animated movies that are part of franchises that are largely live-action, like STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS.
1972: SNOOPY, COME HOME
1974: THE NINE LIVES OF FRITZ THE CAT
1976: RACE FOR YOUR LIFE, CHARLIE BROWN

Lucienne is inspired in her work by nature in her living environment. She is one of the pioneers in greening childcare in the South Kennemerland region. Tomesen is a green bricklayer at the national Groen Cement Foundation, a nature guide at the children's working group of the Institute for Nature Education and Sustainability (South Kennemerland department) and a school counsellor in the oldest native garden in Europe: Jac. P. Thijsse's Hof in Bloemendaal. Tomesen completed a field biology course at the Royal Dutch Natural History Society. For over 12 years, Tomesen allowed children within childcare, education, cultural organizations and nature organizations to benefit from her artistic and green knowledge for a few half-days a week. She works according to the 'arti et naturae' principle. For her, art and nature are inextricably linked. Movies. Dr. Jac. P. Thijsse's Hofhouding. Nature education in Bloemendaal. With pictures, photos and film. Lucienne worked as a school counsellor at Thijsse's Hof in Bloemendaal from 2007-2010. She provided nature education to schoolchildren in the oldest native garden in Europe. In this collection, she describes Jac's court with great humour. P. Thijsse. Thijsse is the founder of numerous nature organizations in the Netherlands. He was a teacher, writer of nature books, pioneer, naturalist and conservationist, and was of great significance for nature in the Netherlands.
Window TV. You don't know what you see. With pictures, photos and film. Lucienne lived for a few years (2015-2016) in a farming village in 'the Bathtub of Europe'. The Zeevang polder is on the Markermeer, 30 km north of Amsterdam. A typical Dutch landscape with low skies, windmills and expansive views. The peat meadow area in Laag Holland has been declared a Natura 2000 area. With photos, drawings and stories about villagers, farmers, green city dwellers and 'the things no one knows'. Luciënne's grandfather and aunt had a farm in a village in the southernmost tip of South Limburg, in the Geuldal. She spent much of her childhood there. The landscape where Aunt lived was declared an Iconic Landscape a few years ago. Eli Heimans, Jac's friend. P. Thijsse conducted research there and wrote the book 'Uit our chalk land', 1901. Documentary Lucienne Tomesen in the peat meadow landscape in Low Holland by Guy Renardeau with music by Guy Renadeau. The drawings, photos and texts in the films and the documentary are by Lucienne Tomesen. https://vimeo.com/user13258945 (APOLLO kids publisher) https://natuurluciennetomesen.tumblr.com.
Documentary Do farming villages and farmers in the low peat meadow landscape (Natura 2000 area) in Low Holland still have a future? Guy Renardeau (LA) made a documentary about nature and farmers in the Zeevang Polder (2015-2016), with music by Guy Renardeau. The theme of the documentary is 'enlargement of scale'. How can facilities such as a school and a bus connection, an association for rural women and cultural activities in the reformed church be maintained? He asked this question to a farmer, his wife, and a young man who attended primary school in Ribbon Village, which consists of 500 inhabitants. The young man was in a class with his younger sister. His class consisted of 2 people. https://youtu.be/RCLtLrL3MdA?si=oCi0JyaCA1XDgqZi.
Movie Nostalghia. Andrey Tarkovsky's masterpiece 'Nostalghia' is a film about 'loss'. Guy Renardeau wrote music for this magical black-and-white film (his last) in 2020 during the 'pandemic'. Tarkovsky grew up in the Russian countryside. Stalin and communism destroyed that countryside with its farmers and its wooden houses. This film tells the story of Tarkovsky and his time and tells something about us and our time ('Great Reset'). 'Nostalgia' means longing for that which is definitively gone.
