During our last stay at the Hotel Budir in Iceland we were wandering around the Black Church and I noticed a nicely dressed couple fiddling with a camera on a tripod. Being a sucker for weddings, I jumped in, asked if they wanted help, then proceeded to use their camera for the next half hour shooting their only wedding photos. They were incredibly grateful. My point is, we live our profession and we love people. Imagine if we hadn’t stepped in and asked if they needed help. These are the only images they have from their wedding day. . Some people get angry and say “you shouldn’t do anything with a camera unless you’re getting paid”, to which I say “payment takes many forms”. . Our photography journey has been wild and we are looking forward to everything that the universe will give us. . An adventure elopement is more than going away to elope. The logistics of each one are very different and they require a checklist of items that take consideration. . This photo shows Vanessa and Bruce in Iceland at a location that hardly anyone knows about. Kari and I have been to this spot several times, looked at it from all possible angles, chosen the time of day that works best with the time of year, and knew that the light, color, and temps would be optimal for a good portion of the day that we were all together. . Their session was about being in places that not many people had been, as well as some of the main attractions. Of course the four of us went to the Black Sand Beach and a few of the magnificent waterfalls, but we also went to places that are more secret. It's important to be flexible and be more about understanding what they wanted rather than getting the best images for our portfolio. . In the end, we all got really wet, the day went way over time, they came back to our AirBnB for some champagne and snacks, and we all felt as though we did everything we could to create a beautiful gallery of images, not to mention we all had a great day driving around this beautiful island! . When you decide to elope to a destination, understand that there are a lot of people who wish to do the same. Study up on what is important to you in pictures, realize that each photographer company has its own personality and it may or may not work with yours, and then start to visit with the ones who align with your ideas. .
