This is a realllly old tweet I noticed two years prior.

Sae says here that she wants to do the Insomnia Race from Nemousu TV again. Not surprised to hear this since we all knows she has yet to fulfill her revenge to completely stay awake till the end after 2 attempts.

Interestingly, the members she would like to participate with her again are all graduated members, most of them being those who've previously tackled the same challenge in Nemousu TV in the past.

They include Kuramochi Asuka, Oya Shizuka, Kitahara Rie, Miyazaki Miho, Suzuki Mariya (who has never done it before. So it'd be pretty interesting to see how she'll do in this), Iwasa Misaki, Yamauchi Suzuran, Ichikawa Miori... and of course the one who successfully passed the challenge twice, Akimoto Sayaka.

Aw it's sweet that Sae wants her best friend to participate with her in this again. But an all OG version of the Insomnia Race? I'm all up for it!

The Ju-On franchise must have one of the most confusing naming conventions ever. I didn’t do my research adequately and began with  Ju-On: The Grudge when I should’ve started with the two shorts titled Katasumi and 4444444444, or the two TV movies they inspired, Ju-on: The Curse and Ju-on: The Curse 2. Got that? It doesn’t matter, as the 2002 Japanese film can also serve as a good jumping point.

Presented non-linearly, the story concerns a family home in which a violent murder took place years ago. Though the crime has been solved and the house is now inhabited by a new family, a curse created by the murder still stains the grounds. All who come into contact with it gradually become consumed by the vengeful spirits.

Following this film’s success and that of Ringu in 1998, North America saw a surge of J-Horror adaptations, most of which followed a now-familiar formula. An incident triggers the appearance of a ghost. The heroes are picked off one by one until they can resolve the mystery behind the specter. Now appeased, everyone lives happily ever after. Knowing this, you come into Ju-On: The Grudge expecting a fairly standard plot but this film is not a standard ghost story at all.

This picture is far more reminiscent of something akin to H.P. Lovecraft’s The Colour Out of Space than a standard ghost story. The grudge warps the reality of its victims, driving some mad. Though slow at first, it is frightening because you slowly realize - as the characters do - how doomed they are and it perfectly captures the feeling of otherworldliness you’d get from seeing a ghost. The titular grudge is a plague being spread by the people investigating it. More malicious than any standard disease, however, this supernatural force is capable of defending itself and of changing to suit its future victim. The individual stories are mostly (but not always) told in reverse order, which makes you feel like an investigator. The second the credits begin to roll, you want to rewatch the movie from the beginning and to create a flow-chart of all the events to get a new viewpoint on what you saw. If you can figure out the seemingly indecipherable mechanics of this supernatural entity, you’ll be ready to defend yourself against it... maybe.

There are many singular, iconic shots in the film that stick with you long after it’s done The croaking noise signaling the ghost's presence, the stark white ghouls hiding in the background, the cat screeching, the body slowly crawling towards petrified victims… memories of them will make you hesitate to take off the lights. It’s slow to start, can feel low-budget at times and some of the performances are a bit dodgy but give Ju-On: The Grudge time. Its flaws are overcome by the iconic imagery and the scares.
