Summary: Imagine waking up in an entirely different body in an entirely different country. It’s a pretty jarring experience. Now imagine waking up in an entirely different body only for the first time in your entire life you can hear everything around you.

You never thought much of soulmates growing up

As a kid you just figured you didn’t have one, most people had signs of their soulmate but you had... nothing

no first words, no timer, no random bruises, no writing on your skin

And so you went on with your regular life, a soulmate wasn't for you and you were ok with that because what else were you supposed to do?

It wasn't until college, the end of college, that there was anything to suggest you had a soulmate

And it was pretty shocking

Imagine waking up to a blaring siren that couldn't have possibly been yours

Actually you don’t have to imagine because for the first time in literally ever you woke up to what you imagined a train would sound like: large, headfirst, and spitting sharp spikes out in a halo

Why was it surprising?

Well up until apparently today you were deaf, the doctors told your parents 80% hearing loss but what did that mean to you when that's all it ever was?

But now, now it sounded like what you imagined the DENIED stamp across access papers sounded like

You were so freaked out you didn’t even noticed your surroundings were entirely different... which would explain your sudden hearing acquisition and... the new body you inhabitated?

Honestly you were straight up not having a good time as you fumbled around to turn off the alarm

Especially when the door opened and this brown haired boy stuck his head him “Geez ***, can you turn off that annoying alarm?” 

There was a word that just didn’t seem to catch in your brain though

And later you realized it was probably the name of your soulmate that the world just wouldn’t share with you

(because that would be too easy -_- even though you didn’t know Chinese and were nonverbal in your body)

But also wow that was not english? You had been reading lips for years and that did not match the mouth shapes you know at all

Also how did you know what they were saying? You didn’t catch a single word from lip reading and that really wasn’t a foolproof way anyway so??? 

It was like your brain just translated whatever language that brown haired kid was speaking in

which, albeit, made it easy to communicate but also what???

“um who are you?” you shot back

Wait did you just say that? You haven’t talked in years, why would you start now?

And that wasn’t English at all, that’s definitely not how you moved your mouth to make English words.

What was going on?

“How funny" The guy at the door mockingly laughed and repeated, “Just turn off your alarm ok?” 

What the hell was happening?

That's when it dawned on you... this must have been a soulmate thing, just late? 

Because looking down you were definitely not in your body, not at all

Oh my god

Of course you just happened to get the rare body switching soulmate thingy and it just happened to be with a boy halfway across the world who knew absolutely nothing about your culture or language... but then again you knew nothing about his

You felt like an intruder, what if you had to go to the bathroom or shower? This wasn't your body!

And this meant there was probably someone in your body doing those things too

Someone you had never met

Oh god

Sure enough on the other side of the globe there was a very confused boy waking up in a body that wasn't his, not sure what was going on or why his bed was vibrating and why the noise around him was fuzzy, like someone shoved cotton in his ears then put a thick glass wall between him and where ever the sound was coming from, but not even that could accurately describe it

And also what was this room he woke up in because he was not familiar with anything in it, including the body he was in?

To make things worse your friends busted through your dorm doors signing about getting your pieces ready for the slam poetry night at the school’s coffee shop tomorrow

He was completely lost: 1. those were not his members 2. that was not one of the languages he knew? and 3. he/you couldn’t hear?

Maybe he had seen someone signing in China once or twice but not enough to learn anything

Also chinese sign language =/= ASL, it's not a universal language folks

But for some reason he could understand what they were signing even though he didn’t know how he could understand or how he could respond

This little trip lasted nearly a full day, and was equally hard for both of you because his friends yelled very loud and your friends were very animated

Not that any of Seventeen even noticed someone else was in their friend’s body

Even though you told them like 15+ times

On the other hand you friends immediately caught on because when they asked if you wanted to listen to "that metal music" and Hao responded “how can I hear it though?”

They looked at you/him like you’d grown an extra head

Don’t worry though he learned better when your friends turned on that “metal music” and he was bopping to the beat through the speakers. Definitely feeling stupid for asking in the first place

In that 20-24 hours in your body he broke more of his misconceptions about you and your friends than ever before

Meanwhile you were stuck watching video games, listening to people fight over food and space, and dancing?

At least your soulmate had a good collection of novels and you might as well utilitize his skill in chinese to read what you otherwise couldn't

You even left him a little note in the book as a bookmark "please don't loose my spot"

for when you switched again

Needless to say when you woke up back in your body, you were beyond happy: back to signing, back to your friends, and back to your personal brand of hectic life that didn’t involve 12 other dudes

Your friends were also happy to see you back though they had plenty of stories about the chinese boy who lived as you the last day

Apparently they fell in love him... jokingly more than they loved you... well maybe a joke

(They found out he was Chinese when he translated the club flyer hanging up in the student center)

So naturally you assumed Chinese was the language everyone was speaking when you were in his body

(you were wrong it was Korean but how were you supposed to know that when you never actually heard either language)

Meanwhile you start learning a little bit about CSL (Chinese Sign Language), not that this boy would know CSL but maybe it’s a way to get closer to your mystery soulmate and you can learn more about other Deaf cultures around the world 🤷‍♀️

(Honestly you can’t wait until the opportunity presents itself to make a joke about how deaf in ASL was similar enough to woman in CSL that it could be easily mixed up)

you’re also trying to place the alphabet that that you saw everywhere when you were in your soulmate's body, it was not going well

Meanwhile Hao is asking Joshua all about a Deaf college in America and about ASL, and honestly Joshua knows nothing about any of it but together they can maybe narrow it down?

(Not that Josh believes the body switching thing at first either)

Because here’s the truth, Minghao was resigned to the fact that he didn’t have a soulmate too

It took him some time to come to terms with it but eventually he just accepted it

Switching bodies with you installed in him hope over his new soulmate

The next time you switch bodies, it lasts a full week

At least this time you’re more prepared for the sound of his alarm and all 12 chaotic boys he seems to live with

You're ready to fight tooth and nail for your portion of food and spot on the couch

also you are ready to d e f e a t them in video games

Because you've been practicing

Meanwhile poor Hao... nothing could've prepared him for the switch

He's in your body so long he has to ask your friends how to put in your hearing aids because he spent 30 minutes trying to “hear” before realizing that your hearing aids didn’t actually make you hear they just helped to filter ambient noise and focus in on pitches in the human range

This time however he also remembers to call you

...but he doesn’t remember that the time zone is crazy different and also he is in your body and your body can’t hear to have a conversation over phone call, so he follows it up with a quick text (which you don’t see for another 5 hours because you were dragged into a practice)

Oh and while we’re here this practice was a disaster, last time you managed to get out of all the idol stuff because it was a day off (just a little dancing for fun with Hoshi and Jun)

This time?

Not so lucky

Josh was the first one to notice, especially when you subconsciously signed, did an uncharacteristic sigh before plopping to the ground in a quick break, and whining about not being able to breathe

He's like “wait Minghao talked about his soulmate who lives in the USA and signs and now he's acting like that? Sus 🤔”

He is the first one to believe you (of two)

“haha good joke ***, a Deaf girl from America. How do you even come up with this stuff?”

These boys were infuriating, luckily they seemed to hold your soulmate in some sort of odd reverence and that meant they didn't bug him/you as much??

Also luckily your body... or his body... seemed to have enough muscle memory to get you through the dance practice, not well but passable (everyone just thought it was an off day)

though you might’ve thrown up after practice because you are not used to this kind of exercise

Intramural volleyball is not this difficult and wow you should really work out more

oh you thought that practice was hard, well check the vlive, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A VLIVE IS but suddenly everyone is dragging you into it

so you spend the whole time quiet in the back texting yourself (but really Minghao in your body, weird) asking him what the hell is up with his lifestyle and how does he get by without any sleep but also this much cardio

(You're texting in Korean and he's responding in English, which is also weird but the go to on each of your phone's keyboards so?)

But he has just as many questions about your life and "what is this poetry night at the end of the week your friends keep talking about"

That poetry night is super important and after you explain how hard you've prepared he spends the entire week practicing your piece just incase you haven't switched back by then

You switch back like 4 hours before the performance, right when you wake up from a nap (he started while in your body) but he still performed the entire thing just for Josh because he was so proud of you and your writing (albeit switching sign for chinese because for some reason he can't remember the ASL he learns while he's in your body)

he even choreographed it

Just because the week in each other’s bodies ends that doesn't mean your texting does and you even video chat a few times, though communicating does not work out as well as you want it too.

He doesn’t remember ASL out of your body and you definitely can’t read Korean on his lips (you learned that it was Korean from Josh) so you just smile and wave and write the few Chinese words you know on a piece of paper and he gets Josh to come help

Do you see a pattern?

Josh quickly becomes your friend because he is often working as a translator for you two when you're in your actual bodies (which is really him translating to english and writing it out or you filling in the gaps of lipreading which doesn’t work well with a lag fyi)

It works so spotty that Joshua even starts learning ASL to talk to you too 

(though you're the one teaching him when you're in Minghao's body and it is weird using just your brain power to sign and no muscle memory)

Ironically you and Hao communicate best when in each other's bodies

This goes on for a few months before Hao asks you to come to Seoul to meet in person but you refuse with the excuse that it would be too hard to communicate in South Korea and you don’t have the money to fly out 

(but honestly you didn’t care about that stuff you were just nervous about meeting your soulmate face to face… in your actual bodies)

So you stretch time and evade the subject for months, switching bodies on and off anywhere from a day to a week, though one time it was literally for 45 minutes and right before an interview with his whole group, which was not fun (especially because your body language is 100% different and even though no one could tell you apart it was painfully clear to you and Minghao) and then you went to the bathroom and suddenly you were in your body again

It was your fifth switch that someone else in his group finally noticed you weren’t Hao

He walked in on you listening to very loud rap and metal in English while doing a very mediocre break dance

Hey you wanted to know if your multifaceted soulmate could also break dance? What's so wrong with that?

It was Jun and he was beyond confused but once you explained everything (for the thousandth time) he finally latched on

Him and Minghao had talked about the soulmate things and Jun was over the moon lol that Hao met his (kinda, you'd still never met in person)

Now him and Josh help you out in interviews, and they had your back when you gave a speech to carats after a performance on stage and the one win you were there for

"Sorry I can't give you the memory of your win. But you deserved it and also everyone cried." That’s what you texted Minghao after the win

What you don’t tell him is that you cried too, it just happened... They worked so hard and the time in his body was really starting to make you love all of his friends and him more, even if it was a free for all everytime you were there

But he knows the feeling, because you get a super prestigious invite in the mail to perform your poetry in front of some very famous people and opens it without knowing

He cries and then when his tears dry he texts you a picture and you cry

"I'm so proud of you this is so exciting, I wish I could be there"

When you eventually tell your friends that your soulmate is famous (because he never thought to bring it up, they all just thought he was a dancer and living in Seoul) they freak out, particularly the one that is in love with kpop

This girl asks him for 20+ autographs next time you switch (and he's like yeah but your friend [that's you] won't meet me so how can I get them to you??)

She’s always babbling about the beats and how at least the videos are all subbed anyway and more than once you’ve caught her doing the dances

She makes it her personal mission to find out which group he’s in (even though he can’t sign his name to anyone or write down any personal information)

Just so you know, your friends give him a sign name and it’s the sign for trade mixed with a finger heart

(he still only knows your sign name and it’s not helpful because no one can seem to finger spell your name around him, another soulmate thing)

While he’s in your body he gets well acquainted with your poetry and writing (that’s what you’re going to school for) and if he wasn’t in love before, he definitely is now

Not to mention he would look up all your performance videos and often brag back in his own body

One time he proof reads your paper on gender in horror films (which he had to send to Seoul for you to finish while in his body) and he's like "wow ok they're amazing. I really got someone amazing"

And you have the same feeling looking at all his art around his room

You like to leave little sticky notes complimenting his photography

And sometimes you go to the dance studio late and just lay on the ground with the little camera that films practice, watching and rewatching the actual owner of your borrowed body dance

He moves like water and you write about him, write poetry about his grace and his heart. You even put your hand on the speaker to feel the beat pulse in time with his steps

The first time you realize you are hearing his voice in a song you cry

You don’t mean to cry but that’s your soulmate singing and he's beautiful

Jun laughs at you until he realizes that you would never hear them sing in your own body and then he beats himself up about being a dick (he's the one who told you who was singing in the first place)

That's when he starts asking about what it’s like to be Deaf (because it finally sinks in for him that the you, who lives halfway across the world, will never be able to hear him in your body) and then asks if you want to be able to hear ? if you wish you could?

It's a question you get so often that you have a prepared speech but now in Minghao's body your answer changes a little

First and foremost you explain to him that being Deaf is a part of who you are, your family is Deaf, your friends are deaf, you wouldn’t be who you are if you weren’t a part of Deaf culture

Then you explain that there’s nothing wrong with being deaf and you don’t loose anything because of your deafness in fact you gained so much

(Here's where the answer changes) So yes you love hearing them and hearing their music and experiencing all these new things but you also love being Deaf and you wouldn’t trade that part of yourself for anything in the world because there is nothing to fix

After that Jun stops bothering you about it… he also starts learning ASL with the other two... and he also tells the real Minghao that he is in love with you and will fight for your soulmate rights

whatever that means lol

Minghao looked at Jun like he was gonna whoop his  w h o l e  ass and no one told you about the exchange

(Really Jun realizes to get to know the real you he has to learn how to communicate with you (in your real body))

(He bugs everyone about Hao's cool soulmate at every given moment and the rest of Seventeen is kinda jealous he’s met you and they never have (they still don’t believe that you’re switching bodies))

It wasn’t too long after that your friend figured out that the chinese boy who sometimes lived as you was Minghao from Seventeen, or he was probably Minghao, but also maybe Jun, but definitely Seventeen

(Because he had spent time in your body practicing for his comebacks and she matched them up like a detective)

Here was her thought process: narrow down the idols to male chinese idols; SuJu was too old, NCT was too chaotic, Jackson was too whiny, UNIQ didn’t have enough members and weren't performing, and Hao had practiced the comeback dances in your body

When she showed you one of their videos you very nearly died, warmth spreading through your cheeks and down your neck because yeah right there in front of you was your soulmate

(Well actually that was you. The video she showed you was that interview where you had been there for 45 minutes then switched back in the bathroom lol)

This was also the first time you learned his name. Nearly a year of living in each other's shoes and you finally knew his name

She also showed you that they were going on tour and your city was one of the stops  *wink wink nudge nudge* 

and if you wouldn’t go to him in Seoul then maybe you could go to him when he came to your city

Plus she likes Seventeen a lot (at first she was a little mad that you got to meet her bias <Joshua> but she eventually got over it <she still bugs you to talk to him>) and there were these hi-touch things that she always wanted to try but was too nervous about how the idols would react to a deaf fan

you were a great excuse to justify going and she knew that at least some of them were learning ASL because you had talked about it after video chatting Minghao one time

So then and there you made a plan (to spend too much money) to get these VIP Hi-Touch tickets when Seventeen came to your city

though really your friend executed the plan because you didn’t want Minghao to wake up in your body and see the ticket stubs

Also your friend was right those beats were great, the music videos were interesting, the lyrics were fun, and a concert sounded like a hoot, even if you were gonna throw up at the thought of seeing your soulmate in person (like actually seeing him not just you in his body looking in a mirror)

Lorelei had introduced Reiji to some of her older CDs from the 90′s and 2000′s, and somehow “Unwritten” had become the #1 hit in the studio for the time being. It was the middle of the night, and Lorelei was working late, jamming out as she took one of the Quartet’s jackets for mending.

I would say he is alright? He is pretty nervous thinking about kissing but once he does he just goes with the flow? He doesn’t consider himself a good kisser though. He is stressed that the other person thinks he is bad but will never tell him

I have no idea about the ring size. But Jonghyun wouldn’t mind any kind of ring. A pop ring will do for him as long as it was given with the actual meaning.

Even though Jonghyun really likes flowers he doesn’t have any favorites. He would like to have flowers with some good meaning bound to them though, for sure

He never though of food this way and probably never will.

The only times he is into gossip is when he is actually is when he is confessing things that have been burdening him. Or tries to help his friends with their issues. Is that really gossip? He doesn’t know how would a matchmaker even work in life of idols and would rather not risk it.

Jonghyun isn’t one that likes to receive gifts. He is more of the giver. So if he now has to receive one, he would surely enjoy anything simple with a lot of meaning with it.

Anything cute really. Simple dates. Casual dates. Being dweebs together.

He doesn’t really believe in such things when it comes to love. His luck wasn’t that great with his first boyfriend as they split up after two months.

As he is an idol Jonghyun has been putting thoughts of marriage, kids, family away for later. He sure would like to get married one day. But as he is a public figure it would be something small for sure and ceremony would not happen anytime soon. He would rather get to know their partner throughout.

He would much rather write some lyrics than love letters. But maybe if he really wants to personally give something to his partner he would write now. He would be so shy accpeting a love letter he would explode.

Well he bottles it all up to himself. He is really loud and dramatic with his friends but that is his way of looking for comfort and trying to forget what he actually feels. But at the end of the day his actual emotions, the feeling of loneliness shows up when he is alone. He has been dumped. I don’t think he is one to break up with anyone really.

He believes all the L.O.V.Es are his soulmates really. As for the AU.. it could work.

He is really affectionate both with his friends and his partner. As for the public affection.. he would totally limit it as much as he can. He is an idol after all. Even though public affection of two men isn’t THAT triggering to people it might take weird turn one day.

I don’t have any in mind really..

I haven’t written either one before but it sure sounds interesting

Just like last year, Lorelei waited until Reiji had escaped his adoring crowd for her Valentine's gift. Unlike last year, however, instead of nervous, she was excited.
