Ідзі і глядзі, Idzi i hliadzi (1985) - a review
Tumblr media
Words fail me.
I've been a writer for over ten years, I've been in love with stories, and I've been moved by them. I pride myself in not being one easy to disturb.
Ідзі і глядзі is one of the exceptions I found.
A Soviet film, Ідзі і глядзі is told from the perspective of a young soldier, and it depicts the horrors of war as no Hollywood movie could.
It enrages us, it saddens us, it moves us.
Despite what Imperialist propaganda has sold us, World War II wouldn't have been one without the Soviet Union. Ідзі і глядзі shows the price paid by those who saved us from Nazism.

Men, women, children. Villages devastated, burned to the ground, destroyed to the last person standing. Because of fascism.
As someone who identifies more and more with Communism, every day I'm realizing how deep our despise towards Fascism must be. Come and See reminded me of what we risk repeating if we don't do anything about fascism.
It's a film everyone should watch once in their lives, to remind us to be human. To remind us what is at stake.
Ідзі і глядзі is a horror, but the biggest horror is finishing the film and realizing this isn't fiction, this is reality and the movie has barely scratched the surface of the cruelty from those days.
Watch this movie, be horrified, be moved, cry. And NEVER forget what we are fighting for.

Come and See (Russian: Иди и смотри, Idi i smotri; Belarusian: Ідзі і глядзі, Idzi i hliadzi) is a 1985 Soviet anti-war film directed by Elem Klimov and starring Aleksei Kravchenko and Olga Mironova. Its screenplay, written by Klimov and Ales Adamovich, is based on the 1971 novel "Khatyn'' and the 1977 memoir I Am from the Fiery Village (Я из огненной деревни, Ya iz ognennoy derevni), of which Adamovich was a co-author. Klimov had to fight eight years of censorship from the Soviet authorities before he could be allowed to produce the film in its entirety. https://www.instagram.com/p/CoTyb1fIqhND3f_FvBOKj2AJxFoCvIEHsl6mnQ0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
