i think it’s really gross when they show the losing team crying during the world juniors. those are KIDS. they’re gutted. they’re devastated. just leave them alone.
like... i don’t care when they show players crying during the stanley cup because they’re millionaires, whatever. but these are CHILDREN!

2024 u18 Women's Worlds Information
What: The biggest junior tournament for women's hockey, featuring the top players from 8 of the best IIHF countries
When: January 6th to January 14th
Full schedule available here (it will even convert to your time!) Since this takes place in Switzerland, most of these games will be early morning for North American's, but there's a few afternoon starts.
Where: Zug, Switzerland
Where to watch: The following will host at least some of the games. Sadly a lot are only showing games in their country and medal games (for example, in the round robin, TSN and NHL Network are only showing USA, Canada, and Slovakia.) There are also some alternate sources to watch if you do not have access to these channels, and I'm happy to connect if you're an active account on here if you DM me
TSN
RDS
NHL Network
SVT Sweden
Discovery Finland
Swiss digital / ringier sports
Format: There is an initial round robin round among each of the two groups, group A and Group B.
Group A contains Finland, Canada, Czechia, Germany
Group B contains Sweden, United States, Slovakia, Switzerland
After that, the teams will play a cross-over Quarter-final game in the following format (via wikipedia)
Tumblr media
Who: Below the cut is the rosters for each team, a few notable players, and what the main goals for each team will be
Switzerland
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Text version available here and here)
2023 Finish: 7th place
What to expect: Switzerland has had a rough few years in the tournament, having had to play to avoid relegation the last two years. If they can stay out of the relegation game
Players to watch: Ivana Wey had 4 assists last world juniors, and is currently playing on a beyond stacked SWHL B team where she's seen a lot of ice time and scored a lot of goals. 15 year old Norina Müller is one of the youngest forwards on the roster, and has seen some time in a SWHL A team this year, which is impressive experience especially at her age.
USA
Tumblr media
Text version of roster available here and here
2023 finish: 3rd place/Bronze
What to expect: USA was upset by Sweden in last years semifinals, and is hoping to make it back to the medal game and upset the favorites and their rivals in Canada
Players to watch: Captain Maggie Scannell is in this tournament for a third time and was one of the best players last year, with 8 points in 5 games. 17 year old Boston College commit Ava Thomas is one of the many excited prospects coming out of the Philadelphia Jr Flyers program in recent year. She has dominated in many national tournaments before with speed that she utilizes well, and is a must watch as she makes her intentional debut.
Sweden
Tumblr media
2023 Finish: silver
What to expect: Last year, Sweden had a huge victory over the USA to make the finals only to experience a disappointing 10-0 finish. This year, they will want revenge and a gold medal, maintaining a lot of the same group.
Players to watch: Hilda Svensson was the top scorer on the team and she has only gotten better, as one of the top scorers on SDHL team HV71. Isabelle Leijonhielm is playing in this tournament for the third time, and has taken a pretty big step at the SDHL level this year despite being on a struggling team and has a knack for getting shots through traffic
Slovakia:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text version available here
Last year: 6th place finish
What to expect: Hope to continue to build on last year, but unlikely to move much in the standings, and show more depth
Players to watch: If you don't already know about Nela Lopusanova, you should look her up and instantly see what a sensation she is. Won best player of the tournament last year after scoring 9 goals and 3 assists in 5 games including a michigan goal, and has spent the past year at one of the best prep schools in north america. Her teammate, Ema Tothova, has also spend the past year getting better, and is one of the top scorers in the EWHL. The two will almost certainly be linemates and a must watch for this tournament
Canada
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text version can be found here and here
Last year: First/Gold
What to expect: Last year, Canada steamrolled everyone to victory, and much of the same roster is back and expecting to do it again. People have named this as one of the best u18 rosters we have seen.
Players to watch: Caitlin Kraemer had 10 goals last tournament, so eyes will be on her to repeat that great performance. Defender Chloe Primerano will be making her exciting u18 worlds debut after dominating the CSSHL U22 by having one of the best season ever recorded and becoming the highest scoring defender of all time in the league in just 45 games
Germany
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text version available here and here
Last year: Was in u18 Division I group A and was promoted!
What to expect: Germany will mainly be trying to avoid relegation and stay in the top division, a lot of the key player that helped with promotion have aged out sadly
Players to watch: Anastasia Gruß was one of the top scorers last tourament with 5 points in 5 games. Emilija Birka and Mathilda Heine will be two of the youngest playres at this tournament at only 14 year old, so it will be interesting to see how they impact the roster
Finland
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text version available here and here
Last year: Fourth Place
What to expect; This is a team that wants to medal, and has more depth than teams like Switzerland or Slovakia, but may not have the star power to fully compete for a medal. Sanni Vanhanen aging out is a huge loss, and don't have some of the elite goaltender prospects to make up for that like they have in the past. That said, it's still Finland, and there are many players poised to break out. Such as the following!
Players to watch: Emma Ekoluoma has been great both in the Finnish top League (naisten liiga) as well as in international competition this year. Nelly Anderson is a 16 year old defender who made major steps this year and was impactful as she played more games in Naisten Liiga, and I'd expect her to get some big minutes
Czechia
Tumblr media
Text version here and here
Last Year: Fifth Place
Expectations: Medal! There's a lot of reason to believe this group can take a big step this year as Czechia has reaped the rewards of investing in their women's program the past few seasons
Players to watch: Adéla Šapovalivová was the top scorer for Czechia last year, and this year she enters as one of the top scorers in the SDHL where she plays against many senior level players. Same for Tereza Plosová, a university of minnesota commit who has already been a consistent producer in the SDHL and played on the Czech senior team. Goaltender Daniela Nováková looked good in an extremely small sample size at last years tournament, so we will see if she can build on that

this time, next year - with luke hughes
Tumblr media
Warnings: nothing.
Word Count: 2.6k +
← day six. surprise finale. →
────────────
you two had met when he came out to visit jack before the season started after he graduated from highschool. you had also just graduated, and was in new york with your best friend, her mom and your's for your present. you two had been walking into the coffee bar at the hotel in manhattan when you guys bumped into one another. you nearly fell on your butt, but the strong, tall and lanky dude instantly out of reflex, grabbed your arm before you lost your balance. your best friend sasha, stood to your side and gawked. who was this cutie and how did he do that so fast? jack and quinn were with him, and smiled at their younger brother was instantly smitten. throughout both of their stays, they met up a ton at the hotel pool and restaurant with their family that they were with. you revealed that you'd be coming to new jersey in the fall to study Exercise Science and Kinesiology just like luke would be at the U of M. the two of you immediatley clicked, exchanging numbers and social media accounts. then your trip was over, before their's and you made your way back to boston where you and your best friend was from.
fast forward to christmas 2022, two years after they began to date long distance. you would drive or take the train to meet him at away games with sasha and your other friends. you two would meet up in michigan, new york, boston or the hughes lake house for various breaks; before the lake house was sold. you brought out the very best in luke, and vice versa. you brought him out of his comfort zone, no longer the shy hughes boy around people. the two of you were very smitten with one another but these past few months after the last time you saw one another in late august; was difficult. the two of you constantly bickering, going days without texting or facetiming. using academics, prior commitments and other things as different excuses. everything was just 'off'. both of your friend groups together and just as themselves, realized that you two were going through a rough patch. they knew you two loved one another, but it just all became too much all of a sudden. nothing was working, and collectively the friend group agreed - without telling the couple - that they thought they should take a break. they needed one, and at the very least they'd realize if they truly wanted to make the relationship work or not. hoping that this break, could solitidify the relationship and help them realize if they wanted to fight or not. because recently, they were exhausted and frankly over it.
you were in michigan at the hughes house in canton, one day before luke would be leaving, before he was heading off to nova scotia for iihf world jrs. you two were in the car, after getting dunkin and had just gotten into another argument. it was stupid and so blown out of proportion. but you two, knew that this dynamic was not working anymore. you two were oh so done with it, exhausted from fighting, exhausted from not coming to compromises or agreemants. for the first time since things started to go downhill, you were done. you looked at luke as you two sat in the drive way of his house. his hands finally unclasped the steering wheel, his knuckles no longer crimson white. you pulled some hair behind your ear and sighed, alerting luke. tears pooled your eyes as you looked over at him, and just by that expression; he knew. "i ca-can't keep doing this luke. i can't keep dreading every conversation we have, because i fear that it will just turn into an argument. i can't keep going back and fourth over nothing. i can't keep going days without hearing from you, and thinking that we are done. that you are just going to slip silently out of my life. i can't keep hoping for something that doesn't amount to anything." you sobbed, both of your hearts breaking.
luke sat their silently, looked down at his hands and stared. he couldn't look at you without crying. "i can't sleep, i can barely eat, ive been constantly getting sick the past few months. i i just am done, luke. im sorry." you confessed hunching over covering your face, and crying. your sobs broke his heart, and nodded in understanding. luke placed a hand on your back, rubbing it up and down, trying to comfort you. and then in a split second, you were in his arms as you both cried. you knew this was the end for the time being, for the near future. "i wanna say that there is hope for us but everday i wake up and don't feel hopeful anymore. and i can no longer force it." luke started, "i don't know if i can anymore. trying to force something that isn't their anymore. i love you so much y/n but i think we need some space for awhile. especially with me leaving after the season, i think it's time we step back for a bit." luke explained, and you nodded. you agreed wholeheartedly. the following few hours were spent in securing a last minute flight, now that you were no longer traveling to nova scotia with his parents. you were leaving that evening for boston, and soon enough you were at the airport.
you sat next tp luke as the two of you said your goodbyes, atleast for a year. luke much to his dismay, agreed that it would be best to wait until he was in new jersey full time to continue your relationship. he placed his hands gently on your face, "i love you so much y/n but am prepared to let you go, ok? i cant promise our future or your future, i can't say that we will be together in a year but please don't wait for me. please try to move on in some way, and i will try to do the same." luke said with tears streaming down his cheeks. you nodded, wiping your own. "i will, i promise." you said as your voice cracked, breaking both of your hearts. "i love you lukey i love you so much." you said before kissing with much passion and sorrow. you two pulled apart, resting eachothers forheads against one another's for a few seconds before you pulled apart. you sniffled, wiping your nose and hopped out. luke sat their looking out through the windshield, as you grabbed your suitcases and carry on. he watched as your dropped your bags off at the baggage check. that was the last time for a year, he'd be seeing you. it took him a minute and a traffic guy to yell at him through the window for him to drive off. he no longer saw your hair, or your bags. knowing you were gone from his life for the time being.
this time, next year - hopefully.
luke's first season in new jersey.
your family was staying at soho house in new york city, a 30 minute drive from newark where the hughes brother lived. your family was celebrating this year in new york, something the family hadn't done for years. there was something special about christmas in new york, especially when you had somebody to share it with. you smiled up at harrison her boyfriend of 8 months. his family being natives of the city, invited them over for christmas eve once they heard their plans to spend the week in nyc. harrison and her were currently in front of macys storefront, looking at the christmas windows and walking all over manhattan. popping in to different stores, all over downtown new york. they walked into ralphs coffee after walking from saks fifth avenue, down the street. they were standing in line to place their order as luke noticed a familiar laugh in the cafe. he instantly began to look around, and at long last, his eyes laid on you. jack finally caught on to where he was staring, and saw you. his eyes went wide, hitting luke in the chest. "ow, what was that for?" luke demanded shooting a glare at his older brother. "its y/n!!!" jack said freaking out, which luke rolled his eyes. "she's not alone." jack added quickly, and the family that included ellen, jim and quinn looked over at the same time. you felt eyes on you, looked past harrison and saw the family that you once though of as your own. your breath stalled in your chest, before you looked at harrison and shifted a bit, so he was now blocking you from their view.
you took ahold of harrison's hand, leaned up and pecked him. he smiled, wrapping his arms around your lower back, placed a quick kiss on your head before releasing you from his arms. "should we head over to the hotel next?" you questioned, and he nodded. you two ordered your usuals, and then moved over to look at merchandise waiting for your coffee. thankfully the coffee shop was next to the parking garage that you two had parked in and so it gave you a few minutes to linger in ralph lauren before harrison pulled the car up. you were looking at men's suit ties, hoping to find one last gift for harrison. you felt a familiar presence near you, and you looked up and jack and luke in the next aisle whispering rapidly. you sighed, walking off into another section hoping they would not follow. "y/n?" you heard luke from beside you. you looked up from the men's accessories, and took in all 6'2 of him. you swallowed nervously, before looking away. you adjusted your purse and bags, before feeling your phone ding with a text from harrison. "wait, y/n!" luke said as you were about to walk off. you stopped instantly, and slowly turned around to luke. you said a silent plea in his eyes, and you nodded already knowing what he was gonna say or ask. "little owl, tonight, 7:30 pm." was all you said before walking off.
once you got in the car, harrison grabbed your hand and put them in the middle console, and you smiled softly as you drove off towards the hotel.
it was now 7:30 pm, and you had just sat down and waited for luke. luke appeared in the small pub style restaurant and looked for you. he found you and made his way over. you stood up and he leaned over and hugged you. you didn't realized how much you missed the familiar wamrth, scent and now much stronger arms. he sat down across from you, and the waitress came up and asked for drink orders. you two ordered your usuals and a charcuterie board. you both felt comfortable right off the bat again, like it was only yesterday you two had been together. "how's school?" he questioned as you skimmed the menu, you looked up catching his eye. you looked back at the menu, blushing. "its good, going to be graduating early this year." you admitted and luke smiled. "you always were a smart cookie." he grinned, and you smiled. "yeah, uh thanks." you said shyly. "hows the season going?" you questioned, sipping the arnold palmer that was set down. he smiled widely, "its going great. awesome, really. having jack there has been amazing too." he said and you could feel the immesnse love and passion for his game, just by him being there. it was his aura, that lit up brighter than last time you saw him. "good good. " you smiled. luke cut right to the chase, "you moved on right? thats your boyfriend?" he asked. you nodded, anxiety rising. "yeah..harrison. he goes to nyu and is a finance major. we've been dating since april." you confessed. luke nodded looking down, "but i- i haven't fully moved on luke." you added and luke looked up with hope seaping through his eyes. "at the beginning he knew that he was simply a distraction a rebound, but obviously things have changed. things are different." you paused sipping your drink, "but that doesnt really change things." you sighed. luke felt hopeful. "have you moved on?" you questioned and he shook his head. you nodded, feeling like an ass. "dont feel bad, i just didnt meet anybody that i wanted to pursue something with." he now paused sipping his drink, "because i didnt want to move on from you and what we had. i haven't stopped loving you." he said place his hand near yours, and you looked down at it. in a split second, you took ahold of his. "i haven't either." you two said both now, on the brink of crying. "i havent moved on, i cant. i dont want to." you said sniffling. thankgod for this low lighting, making this moment a bit more intimate.
3rd pov.
the two spent the evening catching up, planning for when she could come visit newark and getting the families together for christmas. now she just needed to break up with harrison and that terrified her. luke pulled up to harrison's apartment in west village, and you sighed with nerves radiating through your body. "ill be here okay?" he confirmed and she nodded, and he gave her one last hang squeeze before she got out. she nodded and got out, and walked out towards the front door of the building.
she now stood face to face with harrison, knowing she lied to him. he had ended up in the same restaurant as her family and they thought that she was with him and vice versa. that's when her sister realized the promise from last christmas, and she said something along the lines of potentially meeting up with luke. "don't lie to me y/n." harisson demanded and she shuddered. she then shrugged, "its true. i did see my ex or i guess my boyfriend. i guess we really never broke up for good...." the girl trailed off mumbling to herself. "listen, dont even try to explain yourself or defend. just leave, ill send you stuff to your apartment." harrison said, leaving the room. she swallowed, making her way out of the apartment. and never looked back.
she and luke walked hand in hand in downtown westfield, which was 30 minutes outside of newark. luke and jack had found this area when looking for coffee one day and had come back during the fall. it was christmas morning and the two were heading to go find some coffee, before heading back to newark where his family plus hers would be celebrating the holiday. once the families had realized the two were back together; they without hesitant got together for christmas eve dinner, and caught up like old times. the two of them clearly smitten, and in their own world at dinner. it was like things had never changed
the two of them walked out the coffee shop hand in hand, as light snow began to fall. the young girl smiled up at the sky and swung their hands. luke smiled down at her, she was giddy as a kid. y/n looked at him and the two of them stopped, got closer so they were now chest to chest. "i love you lukey."she smiled inching her face closer to his. he smirked, "i love you too y/n/n." he stated placing his lips on hers. she smiled into the kiss, wrapping her arms around him, and spun her around. her giggling was intoxicating.

Mock 2021 NHL Draft: Power to Sabres at No. 1; Kraken take Beniers
New Post has been published on https://tattlepress.com/nhl/mock-2021-nhl-draft-power-to-sabres-at-no-1-kraken-take-beniers/
Mock 2021 NHL Draft: Power to Sabres at No. 1; Kraken take Beniers
Tumblr media
The Buffalo Sabres won the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery and the No. 1 pick of the 2021 NHL Draft on June 2.
NHL.com writers Adam Kimelman and Mike G. Morreale agree the Sabres will use that pick on University of Michigan defenseman Owen Power.
Their opinions vary widely on what could happen after that.
The expansion Seattle Kraken, who begin play next season, won the No. 2 pick. The Anaheim Ducks will pick No. 3.
The first round of the 2021 draft will be held July 23 and rounds 2-7 will be July 24.
The Kraken and the 15 teams that missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs took part in the lottery drawing for the first two selections. The remaining teams were ordered based on the NHL standings.
The Arizona Coyotes were in the drawing but must forfeit their 2021 first-round pick for violating the NHL Combine Testing Policy during the 2019-20 season.
1. Buffalo Sabres
Kimelman — Owen Power, D, Michigan (NCAA): Defensemen as big (6-foot-6, 213 pounds) and as skilled as Power don’t come along very often, so it should be an easy choice for the Sabres. Power has the potential to be a top-pair defenseman who can play in all situations. His skating and hockey instincts should help him acclimate quickly to the pace of the NHL. He scored 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 26 NCAA games and has three assists while averaging 17:52 of ice time in seven games for Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Championship.
Morreale — Power: A big presence with good vision and strength who has the look of a first-pair NHL defenseman. The 18-year-old led Michigan with 40 blocked shots, was plus-18 and scored two power-play goals.
Video: Sabres, Kraken earn top two Draft selectons
2. Seattle Kraken
Kimelman — Matthew Beniers, C, Michigan (NCAA): Beniers (6-1, 175) should become a fan favorite quickly in Seattle because of how hard he plays in all areas of the ice. He is an outstanding skater who is as relentless on the forecheck as he is on the backcheck. He was a key piece for the United States winning the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship as the youngest player on the roster and hasn’t looked out of place playing with and against NHL players with the United States at the 2021 IIHF World Championship; he sustained a lower-body injury against Slovakia in the quarterfinals June 3.
Morreale — Beniers: He scored 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 24 games in his first college season and led first-time NHL Draft-eligible NCAA players in goals, goals per game (0.42) and shots on goal per game (2.38). He stood out as the second-line center for the United States at the WJC, scoring three points (one goal, two assists), killing penalties and averaging 17:05 of ice time in seven games.
3. Anaheim Ducks
Kimelman — Dylan Guenther, RW, Edmonton (WHL): The Ducks were last in the NHL this season in scoring (2.21 goals per game) and on the power play (8.9 percent), so adding arguably the most dynamic offensive player available makes sense. Guenther (6-1, 175) averaged 2.00 points per game in the Western Hockey League (24 points in 12 games) and can use a hard, accurate shot to score from anywhere in the offensive zone.
Morreale — Simon Edvinsson, D, Frolunda Jr. (SWE-JR): Edvinsson (6-4, 198) is a physical, left-shot defenseman with a good set of tools, including mobility, skating and a strong shot. He had one assist and averaged 5:48 of ice time in 10 games with Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League and scored four points (one goal, three assists) in seven games for Sweden at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship.
4. New Jersey Devils
Kimelman — Brandt Clarke, D, Barrie (OHL): Clarke (6-2, 185) is an outstanding two-way right-shot defenseman capable of skating the puck out of trouble in his zone or making a smart, accurate pass. He played 26 games in the top professional league in Slovakia and showed a willingness to play physical against older, more developed players. Clarke also stood out helping Canada win the 2021 Under-18 World Championship, scoring seven points (two goals, five assists) in seven games. His older brother, forward Graeme Clarke, was selected by the Devils in the third round (No. 80) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Morreale — Luke Hughes, D, USA U-18 (NTDP): Hughes (6-2, 184) could have a chance to join his brother, Jack Hughes, with the Devils. Luke is a great skater capable of playing a smart defensive game with good poise and reads. He scored 34 points (six goals, 28 assists), had 68 shots on goal, and was plus-11 in 38 games for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 team. He lacerated a tendon in his foot from a skate cut March 7 but has started skating.
5. Columbus Blue Jackets
Kimelman — Simon Edvinsson, D, Frolunda Jr. (SWE-JR): His outstanding blend of size, skills and smarts is reminiscent of Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones. His skating is effective in getting pucks out of his zone, and he’s elusive with it in creating offensive chances for himself and teammates.
Morreale — William Eklund, LW, Djurgarden (SWE): Eklund plays bigger than his frame (5-10, 176) with good speed, puck skills and vision. He was named rookie of the year in the SHL after scoring 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) while averaging 15:29 of ice time in 40 games. He was expected to play for Sweden at the World Championship, but an injury sustained during an exhibition game sidelined him for the tournament.
6. Detroit Red Wings
Kimelman — Jesper Wallstedt, G, Lulea (SWE): The Red Wings need a goalie to add to their development pipeline and Wallstedt (6-3, 214) is the best available. Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman is fearless when it comes to identifying talent. Two years ago, the Red Wings had the No. 6 pick and went against the grain to select defenseman Moritz Seider, who now looks like a future top-pair player. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a similar move by the Red Wings here. Wallstedt has a calm, controlled style, tracks pucks well and already has experience playing in the top league.
Morreale — Mason McTavish, C, Peterborough (OHL): A powerful skater with balance and solid puck-protection skills, McTavish (6-1, 207) scored 11 points (nine goals, two assists) in 13 games on loan with EHC Olten in the Swiss League, the second-highest professional league in Switzerland. He scored 11 points (five goals, six assists) in seven games to help Canada win the U-18s.
7. San Jose Sharks
Kimelman — William Eklund, LW, Djurgarden (SWE): He showed top-end offensive skill combined with the ability to win battles along the boards and held up well against physical play in the SHL. The Sharks need to get younger and more dynamic as they look to contend for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Eklund has top-six potential.
Morreale — Kent Johnson, C, Michigan (NCAA): An offensive sniper who plays with pace, skill and creativity, Johnson (6-1, 167) thrived at left wing this season, scoring 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) in 26 games. He led first-time NHL Draft-eligible NCAA players in assists, points, and points per game (1.04).
8. Los Angeles Kings
Kimelman — Luke Hughes, D, USA U-18 (NTDP): Luke brings the same top-end skating ability that his older brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks, but in a bigger package. The Kings have done well stocking up on high skill forwards the past few years, including Quinton Byfield (No. 2, 2020) and Alex Turcotte (No. 5, 2019). Hughes is the kind of player that will be able to get them the puck in the right spots to be effective.
Morreale — Dylan Guenther, RW, Edmonton (WHL): An elite goal scorer with quickness who scored 12 goals in 12 WHL games this season and helped Canada win the U-18s with seven points (four goals, three assists) in seven games.
9. Vancouver Canucks
Kimelman — Kent Johnson, C, Michigan (NCAA): A high-end playmaker with great vision and some flair to his game. He’s elusive carrying the puck and strong enough to win battles along the walls. He also showed his versatility this season, excelling on the wing and at center in his first college season, and should get better as he gets stronger.
Morreale — Brandt Clarke, D, Barrie (OHL): A mobile, puck-moving righthanded shot who is considered an excellent passer and playmaker with great vision. He scored 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) and was plus-6 in 26 games on loan with Nove Zamsky in the Slovak Extraliga, the top professional league in Slovakia.
10. Ottawa Senators
Kimelman — Matthew Coronato, RW, Chicago (USHL): Coronato (5-10, 183) was a dominant offensive force who blended top-end goal scoring, strong skating, and a physical approach similar to United States Hockey Hall of Fame forward John LeClair. He led the United States Hockey League with 48 goals in 51 games and the league in scoring in the playoffs with 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in eight games.
Morreale — Jesper Wallstedt, G, Lulea (SWE): Central Scouting director of European scouting Goran Stubb said Wallstedt is the best Sweden-born goalie prospect he’s seen in at least five years. The 18-year-old can read the game well, has good quickness and plays a hybrid butterfly/athletic style. He was 11-8 with three ties, a 2.23 goals-against average, .907 save percentage and two shutouts in 22 SHL games.
11. Chicago Blackhawks
Kimelman — Chaz Lucius, C, USA U-18 (NTDP): Lucius’ skating is as good now as it was before he missed the first four months of the season with a knee injury. The forward (6-1, 185) is strong around the net in the offensive zone and has an NHL-caliber shot that he used to score 13 goals in 13 games this season.
Morreale — Carson Lambos, D, Winnipeg (WHL): Lambos (6-1, 197) is a two-way defenseman who has showcased good patience in the defensive zone and in transition. He played two games in the Western Hockey League before sustaining a lower-body injury. The 18-year-old scored 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 13 games on loan with JYP in Finland’s junior league.
12. Calgary Flames
Kimelman — Cole Sillinger, F, Sioux Falls (USHL): The Flames can continue to stockpile talented young forward prospects with Sillinger (6-0, 197), who led Sioux Falls with 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists) in 31 games. He’s a strong skater capable of controlling the pace of the game with the puck on his stick and has good bloodlines. His father, Mike Sillinger, played 1,049 NHL games.
Morreale — Matthew Coronato, RW, Chicago (USHL): The forward was second in the USHL with 85 points in 51 games and led the league with 19 power-play goals and eight game-winning goals. He’ll continue his development at Harvard next season.
13. Philadelphia Flyers
Kimelman — Mason McTavish, C, Peterborough (OHL): The forward was one of the more impressive players at the U-18s, after a solid tenure in the Swiss League. McTavish blends a skilled game with feistiness. He showed strength in battles along the boards and a willingness to stand his ground in front of the opposition net.
Morreale — Cole Sillinger, F, Sioux Falls (USHL): He is a skilled offensive player with a great release on his shot, a high hockey IQ and excellent vision and playmaking ability.
14. Dallas Stars
Kimelman — Corson Ceulemans, D, Brooks (AJHL): The big (6-2, 198) right-shot defenseman is an outstanding skater who can lead the rush and use his speed to create chances in transition and the offensive zone. He also knows how to use his mobility and long reach to keep opposing forwards to the outside. With John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen already established NHL defensemen and top prospect Thomas Harley close to NHL ready, Ceulemans would give the Stars more top-end depth at a key position.
Morreale — Nikita Chibrikov, RW, St. Petersburg (RUS): The 18-year-old forward (5-10, 170) is a playmaker with great speed and strong edges, capable of handling the puck and strong on the backcheck. Chibrikov scored two points (one goal, one assist) in 16 games in the Kontinental Hockey League and led 2021 draft-eligible players at the U-18s with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) for second-place Russia.
15. New York Rangers
Kimelman — Brennan Othmann, LW, Flint (OHL): Othman (6-0, 175) is a strong forechecker because of his speed and willingness to play physical and has a quick release on a strong shot. The Rangers have several talented young forwards, including Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko and Vitali Kravtsov. Othmann would bring a different element that could give them more open ice to work with.
Morreale — Othmann: A two-way difference-maker with very good puck skills and the ability to make himself available in dangerous scoring areas. He scored 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 34 games on loan with EHC Olten in the Swiss League and six points (three goals, three assists) in seven games to help Canada win the U-18 World Championship. He scored one goal and had seven shots on goal in a 5-3 win against Russia in the championship game.
