𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲

"Serving you is loving you, my King. Don't worry about me."

They do say that the Queen of Hearts becomes a different person around Lancelot. A smile that can make flowers bloom, honeyed voice; sharpened attentiveness... Yet Lancelot knows there's more behind that smile - something painful and bittersweet lingering beneath the surface. He's never been the one to mask his emotions all that well.

"Nonsense. You don't have to pretend you don't want our relationship officialized. Cease talking like an underling, Jonah. I've already told you how much more you are to me."

A system built on ages-old values and principles, the red army forbids the higher ranks from getting involved among themselves because of it potentially getting in the way of their respective duties. With the Clemence family already in the works of finding a suitable partner for the noble-blooded Queen, the secret love between him and Lancelot seems more and more ill-fated by the second.

The hitching breath inside Jonah's chest is all too obvious when Lancelot gets up from his chair to stand up tall in front of Jonah.

"If I have to dismiss you from your position, so be it. Nothing is getting in my way of making you mine, Jonah. No matter what anyone has to say about it."

The impact of Lancelot's words usually makes people feel those fright-born shivers all the way down their toes; for Jonah, it's the kiss that followed. A mere shadow of lips over his own, barely there, yet making their presence known. A comforting kiss. The caress of a mouth that Jonah cannot live without. A reminder of having to fight for what you love.

With new determination gleaming in Jonah's amber eyes, his gaze rises to meet Lancelot's again - and finds the man wearing a content smile.

"You'll always be my one and only Queen of Hearts."

Alice in early stages of pregnancy when arriving in Cradle

Ray Blackwell:

While he did notice your baby bump, he didn't exactly know what it was

He didn't want to ask, (he's not stupid) but he was curious

Eventually he wrote you a note and slipped it under your door, claiming another officer wanted to know

Of course, you knew he was in fact the one who was interested

Once you told him he was impressed

He thought you were pretty emotionally and physically strong for a woman who has a baby growing inside of her

He honestly admires you even more now

But as he watches you use magic, he suddenly grows more and more concerned

He didn't want you to hurt the human growing inside of you

He loves that you're stubborn, but maybe a break is a good idea?

He doesn't want to order you around, but he is worried

Maybe if you let him do some of the work he'd feel better

You noticed how his face twisted in concern every time you practiced

It was touching how he cared about you and your pregnancy, even though it wasn't his

Just let him worry, it's not only the cutest, but the most emotional side to him

Hmm. Alright here's the deal

He has no idea what it is

For a while he didn't even notice

But he did straight-up ask you

It didn't occur to him that could be offensive (please go easy on him)

Once you tell him, he's OVER THE MOON

You don't get why he's making such a big deal

But he thinks you're awesome!

He goes on and on about how strong you are and how thought it must have been for you to fall into an entirely new world after already having to adjust differently to your old one

He does act a little less reckless after he finds out

He doesn't want you to get hurt in any way

You took notice of the fact he was always with you

And how when he helped you get down from carriages, he looked at your bump to make sure you weren't straining in any way

You were shocked to see this caring side of him, it was a nice change

He was very dramatic when he told you one day that he would consider this kid his own

You were more than happy, he did seem like a greta dad

He really is so excited for you, you couldn't ask for a more supportive man

Lancelot Kingsley:

He also didn't notice

But that's because he was too busy

But he heard from another soldier that he noticed you were pregnant

Well, that soldier didn't tell him, Edgar did

And that's because Edgar heard him congratulating you

Now he's interested

He understands this must be hard

Having fallen into Cradle so unexpectedly

He asks you personally to take things easy

(You didn't know he knew)

When you tried to shake it off and work harder, he just kept sending soldiers to take you to a chair, or lunch

You figured he had something to do with it, so you went to see him

He was embarrassed when you called him out on knowing, but secretly happy he gets to talk to you about it (he is interested in how you are dealing with everything)

You told him your ex got you pregnant, but when you told your ex you were pregnant, he called you gross and ran away. You said that it broke your heart

He was furious

He wanted this man to pay in painful ways for abandoning you like that

That's when it slipped out

In all his anger he said "Ugh. I would NEVER abandon you like that,"

Lancelot: 😳 MC: 🥺

It was adorable to hear him say just how much he cared, it made you feel just a little braver and a little more loved

Jonah Clemence:

This is a mistake

Why would you tell him

Let him figure it out. Telling him was a death wish

Now he is ordering you around

He was very worried about you using magic, and about you walking alone, and unlike the others, he's not afraid to show that

He will duct tape you to the chair if he has too

He will have Kyle keep an eye on you all day and follow you when you leave the headquarters

Isn't that Edgar's job?

Everything you do becomes dangerous

You both got in a fight with each other when you told him he needed to let up

He must have felt bad because a bouquet of flowers were on your nightstand the next day

He doesn't say he's sorry, but he is saying he loves you in his own unique Jonah way

You were sure that he would call you gross

"Absolutely not!"

He thinks you are outstandingly strong and smart

He respects you deeply, and knowing you want to have kids makes his heart beat faster

He'll never say anything, but he hopes that even though this kid isn't technically his own, he is able to love him like a real father

He silently promises himself before the kid is born that he will never let anything bad happen to you, or them

jonah invites luka out for some brotherly bonding. luka’s had it halfway through.

Luka seriously can’t stand Jonah.

No matter how many times the Queen of Hearts stands in front of the Black Army’s headquarters, with a slight, smug grin fading into a tender smile upon seeing his younger brother. Luka could only sigh at the sight of Jonah, finding his legs frozen to the ground as he could only helplessly mutter under his breath subtle, but unsavory comments about the latter. His hands clenches into tight fists momentarily, before relaxing them at his side, then begrudgingly shuffled his way to the waiting Jonah, whose hand was placed at his hip, tilting his head to the side.

“Luka! My darling little brother! It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve seen you!” He’s been trying to keep it that way. “Why don’t we go walk around for a while? It’s been so long since we’ve done any brother bonding.” Luka couldn’t muster a response, but settled for a halfhearted hum. Jonah found it satisfactory enough, and began walking towards the bridge separating the Black Territory, to the neutral.

He was always one step ahead, he muses. Luka outstretched his hand in front of his face, as if he was reaching out to his older brother, but he pushed down his arm with his other, mournfully shaking his head. Jonah was always so far out of his reach, even when he was still living with the former in childhood. He knew he would never be destined for the title of the Queen of Hearts, handed down generation to generation, that his parents would never see him in the same light as they did to his brother; but he didn’t care. His dear older brother, Jonah, would always be there for him.

How have times changed.

But Luka’s thoughts were soon halted, letting out a soft groan after bumping into Jonah’s back. “Absentminded again? It’s okay, we’re already here.”

Lifting up his head, he’s surprised to see a more secluded location. Knowing him, Luka expected to see himself in the bustling town, covered in head to toe with whatever extravaganza Jonah had prepared for him. The soft, rustling of the trees soothed him in an instant; the sweet melody of various small birds charmed the Jack of Spades into cementing himself where he stood, his mouth agape, his eyes glimmered with enchantment, but he would never dare reveal his thoughts.

Almost nothing seemed amiss, until a dessert table in the middle of the lush greenery popped into his peripheral view. It was decorated in pastel pink, green, and purple too, with heaps of macarons elegantly stacked on top of a plate, and what Luka deemed an unnecessary amount of mille-feuille was also present at the scene. Luka nearly let out an exasperated, but gratified sigh at the sight. This is just what he expected from his beloved big brother.

Beloved? He’d never thought he’d hear himself use that to describe his own brother. After all, why would he, when childhood bullying and parental neglect caused him to run away from the Red Territory to join the ranks of the Black Army, who cared not for family blood when taking up the mantle of their titles, but military prowess instead. Jonah himself may not have been the instigator of his terrible experience with the Red Army, quite the opposite actually. Jonah was his sole protector, the one who fought back against his bullies and assured him that even though he was second born, he was never useless; Jonah made him feel loved when he was never loved by his own parents.

But when Jonah would no longer protect him anymore, it was almost as if his whole world was shattered. The pedestal he so carefully maintained chipped away day by day, until that fateful day he left the Red Territory. Of course, he missed Edgar, they were the best of friends after all. But Luka needed his own freedom, a place where he could belong without the need of his brother.

As his mind began to wander back to his days with the Black Army, he thought back to a conversation he had with Sirius and Alice. How they told him that he should try amending his relationship with Jonah, with such tenderness in their voices, he could do nothing but agree. They told him that even if it didn’t work out, he tried his best.

“Jonah…” Luka’s voice came about in a whisper, clutching his arm tight in his hand. “We need to talk.”

Jonah was silent, sitting down on the right hand side of the dessert table before taking a deep inhale. He then pulled his most affable smile, gesturing for Luka to take a seat first, “Over tea and desserts.” He’d urged, taking the highest macaron stacked, and plopping it in his mouth, while Luka made his way to the empty chair.

His mind was racing, even though he was the one who wanted to talk to him, Luka had no idea what he was going to say. Unload several years of inferiority and damage on Jonah? Ask for an apology? Luka was grateful for his more docile nature, if he was more bold like Fenrir, he would’ve probably spilled out everything he was thinking in that very moment.

“Jonah, I—“ His breath hitched, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. “I can’t handle this anymore. I left the Red Army, I left my life as someone from the Red Territory behind.” A tear falls down his cheek, but Luka quickly averts his gaze, turning his head to the right. “Nothing you do will bring me back. Our relationship is irrep—”But he couldn’t finish his sentence, choked sobs replacing the words he wanted to say. He could’ve finally expressed the feelings he kept inside for years. “I’m— I’m not going to come home. So please…”

Luka began to weep, throwing his head back with his body slumped against the chair. His heart hurt so bad, it was almost like he was going to die at that very moment. “When— When you left me alone, I was so upset.” Luka curled his body inwards, grasping his arms with an overwhelming despair. “I thought I meant nothing to you, I really thought King Lancelot was more important to you than me.”

Jonah was at a loss for words, his mouth opening, before closing, opening once more, and closing again. His eyes darted around the dessert table, throwing another macaron into his mouth before standing up and rushing to his brother’s side, picking him up and hugging him in a tight embrace. “Oh Luka, you’re my darling brother. I owe King Lancelot my allegiance, he was the one who told me I should no longer be concerned with how others think of me, as I am the Queen of Hearts no matter how horribly beaten I am by our childhood bullies, no matter how dainty I may seem.” Jonah then whispers, “I never meant to neglect you. I’m so sorry.”

Jonah’s embrace tightens, burying his face in Luka’s shoulder. “I don’t know what to do—“ Luka sobs, pushing weakly against Jonah’s chest. “I don’t want to see you again, but I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t see you—“ Jonah quickly interjects, “Quiet. No need to speak anymore, Luka.” And so quiet Luka remains.

They stay in each others’ arms for what could almost be considered eternity, listening to each other’s heartbeats that begin to settle down at an even pace. Luka no longer feels so overwhelmed, he felt freer and more comfortable in Jonah‘s presence than he’d been for the past few years.

“I’m sorry Luka. I really didn’t mean to come off as pushy. I really do care for you, you’re so important to me. I— I hope I can do better for you.” Jonah murmurs uncharacteristically, and Luka finds it in himself to wrap his arms around him back, and a response comes much easier than before. “It’ll take time, but thank you.”

Maybe Luka can stand Jonah after all.

Pre-Silvio

From the very beginning of Jonah's route, I noticed a lot of similarities between him and Silvio. And this impression becomes even stronger at the end of his route.

He's a very jealous type. Alice cannot talk, smile, or even look at other men.

Belle often says how handsome Silvio is, and the same goes with Jonah… He's undeniably a good-looking guy. Even annoyingly beautiful.

They are both not ready for normal interaction with women. Due to previous experience (Silvio) or absolute lack of it (Jonah). I mentioned that earlier…

The chase game is pretty much the same. Which I adore so much. This both shows that the characters are quite childish, and also that they are on the same page and totally suits each other.

But Silvio is a man of action, not words. That's the difference.

Another difference is that Jonah is very loyal to the king, which has never happened to Silvio. But if someone had helped Silvio so much when he was a child… maybe… But he grew up without anyone's help at all.

And the most significant difference is how they express emotions to their siblings.

Jonah is extremely open about this, I would say that he expresses it too much. I can even relate why Luka would say something like that:

Silvio, on the other hand, has learned since childhood that emotions can be used as his weaknesses, so he hid them so deep inside that even he himself doesn't believe in their existence.

These guys grew up in very different circumstances and get different traumas.

Jonah, for instance, doesn't like his appearance, which was totally unexpected.

And he even thinks he doesn't deserve Alice's love…

Silvio's idea of value is quite twisted, so I have no idea where to start to explain his point of view.

But even through all this differences I can easily see how the devs came up with the idea of one character through another. And I have to say…they've improved Jonah a lot…
