Star Trek was the most expensive show on air at the time. it cost huge amounts of money and constantly went over budget, and it was constantly on the verge of cancellation in big part because of this. the amount of money being poured into it was a part of why it did get cancelled- it was getting low ratings and consistently costing the studio an arm and a leg each episode

I get that the effects and everything in Star Trek look low budget by today's standards, but it was anything but low budget. if you want to see what low budget sci-fi looked like in the late 60s, then I suggest Doctor Who, which ran on a budget of pocket lint, shoelaces, and a dream

i see math major 👀 i have to take brief calculus in the fall after not taking a single math class in 5 years… any tips to not overwhelm myself??

hi! okay sorry for the late response, I was gearing up to respond throughout the week and drafting good advice. disclaimer: I wrote A LOT. I promise it's not very scary and if it feels overwhelming, please digest it in bits. I just yap a lot and I wanted to cover all my bases.

Five years is a long time without math and enough time to forget lots of things! It's good that you're getting a good head start so there's no need for you to worry.

I'd start by practicing basic algebra: systems of equations, algebraic expressions (solving for x and stuff), linear/quadratic/exponential equations, etc. I will say, even if you once knew how to do this and used to be very good at it, there is a chance that you forgot a lot and lost your touch. Do not be deterred by that. It is OKAY. I've taken many levels of calculus, didn't take any math for a year, and then completely forgot how to factor an equation. It just happens- math is something you have to work your way back into by making a habit of it.

Then you should review trigonometry, more advanced algebra topics, etc: this is algebra II/pre-calculus. In my opinion, it's just a more extended version of basic algebra. You can review matrices too (part of alg II), but it's not very relevant to calculus unless you're taking differential equations (calc 4). But definitely, DEFINITELY, review trigonometry (sin/cos/tan, triangles, rules for their equations, the UNIT CIRCLE).

I'd say that's a good summary of things to catch up on. Once again, it is okay if you mess up some ridiculously "easy" review problems. It's seriously so, so normal, and it doesn't mean that you're set back too far or have an arduous journey ahead of you. The more you get used to doing math, the more you'll get better at it!

Here's a quick overview of topics taught in calculus I: limits, derivatives, applications of derivatives, integrals, applications of integrals.

If you have time, you could totally look into the topics that'll be taught during your semester too. You're already getting a head start by looking into reviewing things, but this would push you even forward.

Here are links to some free resources for you to use for ANY topic you choose to review (you might know some of them):

Khan Academy: has lots of videos and tutorials. Breaks topics down really well. Has review problems with answers and breakdowns of solutions. The review problems are generally basic compared to in-class test questions, but it's good for building a foundation

Organic Chemistry Tutor: This guy is the goat. His youtube videos are really thorough and he's good at explaining things and he'll walk you through different problems.

symbolab: this is an online calculator that can solve lots of different types of equations, including calculus equations! You can input the most tough, weirdest looking equations with ten variables, and as long a it's solvable it'll give you an answer

desmos: online graphing calculator! It's amazing for visualizing equations and functions.

If you have access to whatever textbook your teacher might use in the fall too, that's also great! Also, feel free to reach out to ME for any math help. I am the biggest math nerd ever so I would probably get excited to help you AHAH. I've done one of my mutuals physics homework before so I promise you wouldn't be overstepping if you asked me for anything else. Good luck on your studies!

hi, little corny (and much belated) new years post. 2024 wasn’t the worst year by a long shot but, i spent a lot of it frustrated and disheartened.

Before I get into some of the difficulties of the year, I wanna count my blessings and say that, the two tours i did in 2024 were an incredible experience, especially—for the first one—getting do so alongside Madeline who is an older sister to me. As far as my solo tour, the show I played in New York City was a big milestone for me. I had this weird aha moment where I was like, this room is full, and these people are here for me? I didn’t think I would see that day. Also, even though I did not put out any new material in 2024 (aside from a Blaze Foley cover), I am incredibly proud of the work that I did on “Perverts” and as always, working alongside Hayden is one of the most magical experiences of my musical life.

I work at, for better or for worse, a very slow pace, and also tend to work about 2-3 years “in advance” (for instance, the next two albums were conceptualized/had a good deal written and composed during the making of “Unbecoming” and “Orbweaving”) The 222 video, between re-shoots and a year of editing, was started in early 2022. Having “big” plans but little to show for it can give you whiplash, and make you feel like an imposter sometimes.

All this to say, breaking my laptop and losing the 222 video (right before it was finished) + a lot of logic project demos for the next albums, was a huge blow for me. I’ll say it again, if you’re putting it getting an external hard drive, get that shit right now, it was a big big lesson that I don’t wish on any other artist. Since then, i’m “proud” of myself for taking it on the chin and restarting the 222 edit from scratch (thank God the raw footage was in the cloud), though saying im anxious to finish it would be putting it delicately. The specific vision for the video is very tedious layering and coloring edits. I am extremely anxious to resume work on the next album. Another setback of sorts was the robbery that happened during the spring tour, in which i lost a good deal of the gear i’ve collected over the past decade. Was able to recover eventually and I want to give a big thank you to Jason at Fender for gifting me a new Jazzmaster. Also to Searows and Amulets for letting me borrow gear for the Portland Show.

Amid all of this, one of my biggest motivators in 2024, if i’m being honest myself, was the community here on tumblr. Seeing art of me, yal asking me questions about the music—it has really kept me going and i am forever greatful for that. I am very tired but still very determined. All encouragement and interest goes a long way, and i have very big plans for Vyva Melinkolya in the coming years, even if it might take a minute to get there.

Whenever I get really in a tired time over a few days I like drawin sleep poses, don’t usually post em but I liked these cause recently the first person I think bout when it comes to tiredness other then Mark is Lucanis. Rant moment:

I will say I hate how they portrayed someone not sleeping for days in this game, even though with Mark there Lucanis’d get more sleep cause Mark can’t be moved once plopped and Mark wouldn’t get off till sleep was had. Cause Mark wouldn’t have that, he dealt with that with work and kids to take care of, its not fun. And as someone myself who had weeks of 2-3hr sleep a day in a row while working two full time jobs and now medical work doin good at keepin me movin all da time, It is pain. Some of the worst kind, your brain just dies, you fall asleep standing up in the middle of things, and you get to a point when auto pilot is all thats left and even thats startin to fail. The function Lucanis shows would be nonexistent, and I aint a caffeine person (other then tea) so i had no help from that like he does, but it gets to a point where nothin helps. Don’t know how long time flies in the game for how many days pass and such to know how far his sleep deprive goes, But it aint allowed in my house, period. Even though Im not good at keepin up with my own rule sometimes XD DO NOT recommend it…

various disjointed thoughts on eddie diaz;

heres the thing is you have to allow yourself to believe in the idea of an eddie diaz who likes women. you just have to. im not saying it has to be your headcanon or that you have to discuss it or engage with it, but you do have to believe in the idea. Because not only is it dangerous to back yourself so far into a headcanon corner that eventually youll become disappointed by canon no matter what they do simply because it isnt your prefered version of events, but also because things get fun and interesting and COOL when you decide to analyze eddie diaz from a lens that he actually... does like women and did love his wife.

ill start by sharing that my primary eddie diaz headcanon is fully unlabeled eddie, his life has been all about finding the right thing finding the right way doing the right things, i think it would be very freeing for eddie to just exist and be happy without labeling himself. and ill continue by saying that my secondary eddie diaz headcanon is that he is demisexual. demisexual full stop. a lot of people are on the demi and gay train which is cool but i dont see why demisexual cant be the full and real label, we dont have to hold ourselves to the shackles of split attraction model yal!

i think things get so interesting when you look at eddie diaz as someone who just simply cannot feel romantic or sexual feelings for just anyone. the only person hes canonically loved (because he did, love shannon) was someone he described as his best friend. someone he knew for years platonically and then came back to with a newfound romantic love. and then everyone else hes dated on the show has been introduced to him in a romantic light and he cannot find the connection he found as a teenager. i think eddie has serious issues with separating aesthetic versus romantic attraction so he assumes his aesthetic attraction (like how hes immediately taken by how pretty ana is before the skateboard debacle) means hes interested in people while simultaniously not understanding that his romantic attraction actually creeps in like a slow ooze he can never see coming and rarely actually identify. i have no good or fun way to wrap this up nicely. this is the end.
