Life Series Angst Edition: Wing Headcanons
(Angst Edition referring to the version of the life series where they are trapped in it and being fed off of by InTheLittleWood's AU Watchers and everything hurts and everyone is cursed and its fantastic. As opposed to the Less Angst Edition where its just a bunch of friends having fun that kind of gets out of hand at times but everyone is fully consenting and on board with it all.)
Anywho
Avian/Feathered Wings:
Aka, Grian and Solidarity, sometimes Skizzleman (I have a minimum of three different versions of each character existing in my head at all times, roll with it)
Their wings are still there they just can't really. Use them. It's kind of the equivalent of compounded weakness effects. in a pinch they might be able to glide a little bit but nowhere near the level of even an elytra. They tend to start the series trying to keep them out as much as possible, but usually once everyone starts turning red they bind them, both because it makes it easier to move without semi-controlled limbs flopping around, but also because while they know their friends will not target their wings its still...uneasy. And removing temptation is always best when dealing with Red Lives.
(Grian has Kea wings, Solidarity has yellow Domesticated Canary wings-before Evo they were undomesticated Common Canary wings. Skizz has-slightly singed-angel wings.)
Moth Wings:
Pearl (Hercules Moth wings)
Pretty much the same as the feathered wings except moth wings are a lot more delicate than feathers and while she can bind them its incredibly risky.
Summonable Wings
Aka, the people whose wings more or less exist on another plane and can be manifested or vanished at will (outside the series)
this is Scar, Smajor, and Impulse, sometimes Skizzleman (again, it depends on which specific headcanons im running with for a specific scenario.) LDShadowlady was also part of this group in Last Life, though after she proclaimed herself the fairy queen of the fairy fort her wings manifested without her initiation and functioned more like Pearl's or the avians. (they also looked different than the form she usually had them in)
Basically their wings are locked and they can't access them for the duration of the series.
Scar has vex wings. Depending on the scenario i'm running with, Smajor's manifest looking either like his snowy owl wings from Empires Season One or allay wings or his Empires Season Two elytra. Impulse has classic bat-like demon wings. Skizz's look the same as they do in the other version. Lizzie's change at her will (within a set framework that she has never explained to anyone except maybe her husband)

⚠️ Secret life spoilers session 6 ⚠️
+ me living in my delulu world trying to make sense of this session in fannon lore because im silly
I refuse to believe that the canary curse was broken. Unless Skizz doesn't perma-die next in the series then that curse is still in full effect and the only reason Lizzie died first was because she wasn't in the players domain. The end has never been included in the life series until this season and maybe the curse couldn't protect her out there. The canary curse might be a curse to Jimmy but it's a blessing to all other players. It isn't until Jimmy dies that all hell breaks out and other players start to die and this has been proven time and time again including this time with Mumbo dying right after due to the warden. Skizz is always third to permanently die after the curse is activated and so if skizz falls next in my eyes Lizzie's death was because she couldn't be seen/protected by Jimmy's curse or rather be messed with by the watchers. Early on it was established that Grian asked for a seed where the end was a playable option. Lore wise this could be seen as Grian asking/pleading the watchers to create an arena where the end was playable. Maybe the reason why the end hadn't been playable before was because their influence might be greatly weakened there and the only reason why they even allowed the end was because it allowed for more entertainment and something new perhaps. The moment Jimmy and Martyn entered the end they were test dummies for the watchers to see if they could mess around in the end and sure enough they managed to kill both of them. It might have taken a bit more work in order to do so but they did it. Maybe killing players in the end is just easier for watchers than saving players. After all when Lizzie died her death didn't have a lightning bolt but rather just a boom like that of a TNT going off contrary to the lightning bolts that hit both Mumbo and Jimmy when they died. Her death wasn't meant to happen. It was a fluke, one that the watchers tried correcting soon after. Now I only wait to see if Skizz falls next if only for the curse to stay intact. Though the canary curse can't truly be confirmed broken or not either way until the next life series comes around, if there even is going to be a next life series.

through thick and thin, i'll be here
note: this isn't about the actual life series, just a rp server based on them (the one I've been insane about for the last 2 months)
Bdubs had grown used to the shadows that curled and twisted, stretched out as if they are just short of reaching something most desirable. He'd seen them many a night, watching them warp and disfigure with the setting sun. Like the sun that ever so slowly dropped right now. Bdubs was sat on a little patch of grass, one of the very few not covered in flowers or weeds, head rolled back to embrace the golden glow. It was just reaching twilight. It wasn't very often he gave himself a break like this, so he made sure to soak up the moment. The way the clouds drifted through the air, the way the leaves danced with the light breeze. His hand dug into the ground, but no dirt was lifted. Ah. Bdubs had forgotten he was a ghost.
The last few days had been...quite the ride. It was another on of the games, with the watchers monitoring their every move. But this one was different. Not everyone felt that pull, that need, that bloodlust. Only some had that little voice that told them to burn the world to the ground. They were given the name "The Hands," and they had one mission: leave no one alive. And there was only one other difference, but it would change everything for everyone, Hand or not. There was no second chances, or third chances , or any for that matter. One life, that's it. And, of course, Bdubs lost it. Skizz had somehow made his way into the Crastle, and it was like killing a fish in a barrel. He'd tried to defend himself, but there was no point. A 6'1 behemoth of a man versus a 5'4 stick isn't a fight up for debate.
Which is why he's sitting here now, the light passing through his semi-transparent body, most notably the ebbing gash ripped through his gut. Void only knows why it hasn't closed yet, though it's probably a dead thing. But a positive (depending whether your a glass half full kinda guy) is that things like food, water and, most obviously, sleep. He didn't do anything incredible during the night, just watched the mobs stumble around brainlessly. And watched over Cleo, of course.
Once everyone was gone, when the town lost its final stand, only Cleo was left. She never could die, so they left her to rot. Only the ghosts could stay with her, but they all went their own ways. Bdubs didn't have anything against that, they had all been through absolute hell, but he just couldn't leave Cleo. He had nowhere else to go anyways. So, he just, kind of, stayed. He stayed by her side, desperately trying to play a part, even though the credits have already rolled.
Cleo was alone. Well, mostly, but we don't talk about Skizz (no no no no), and Bdubs and Sausage stayed with her. She was nothing but a shell of the person she was. No more cocky remarks, no more piercing laughter, just hatred and fire. The flower valley was the first to burn, the memorials of the fallen lost in the blaze. Next it was the crumbled remains of Dogwarts, then Monopoly Mountain, and the simple but Shelby and Katherine lived in, and the Plainer's house. Last of all was the Crastle, tore down and built back up, Bdubs could only watch as it fell once again.
There was nothing left for Cleo then, so she left it behind. All over the world, she wander hoping for a way to end her misery, but the two ghosts still followed her. Now, Bdubs can't speak for Sausage, but for him, staying with Cleo was a easy choice. He had made a promise to her, they're still a team, and that means no abandoning the other. Despite only talking twice since coming back to this hellhole, despite her tearing down the one thing that distracted Bdubs from the chaos outside, despite everything, he stayed.
Cause they're still a team, right?
Right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
soooooo i did a thing m'lao. I wrote this in like, 2 hours in the car and. honestly, im happy with it. planning a sequel now, it's probably exactly what you think it'll be.
okay i may be a bit stupid but i've figured out what makes limited and secret life feel so... disconnected, for lack of a better word, from the rest of the life series. (could also be sort of the same for double life?)
it's simply because of the time difference in when each series happened- a few months after third life happened, last life premiered. limited life and secret life happened in the same year as well, and although they were at the beginning and end of the year it kind of lends to the vibe of both games (at least in my eyes.) but double life happened in the summer of 2023, several months after last life and several months before limited life. this lead to a sort of time bubble around double life; it's a pretty big vibe shift from last life and we're missing a few players (mumbo, lizzie, and skizz), but it's not quite near the relaxed-yet-bloodthirsty vibe limited life (and a secret life a little bit) has going on. double life, to me, is very much it's own bubbled part of the life series, sort of the bridge but not bridge between the first two and the latest two seasons.
now, obviously, this is my take on it from a technical/fandom/irl perspective, but it does beg the question: can the characters in the life series feel or understand the time gaps between games? for mumbo and lizzie, who only appeared in two seasons (not counting lizzie's cameo in liml), would probably notice that they had, in fact been gone for a couple seasons (this would also apply to skizz missing dl, and i guess ren when he comes back?). /i/ subscribe to the idea that the players go to their home severs/the void in between games, allowing them to compete in events like mcc and join other servers like empires, new life, hc 9&10, sos, etc. but.. i mean, would they know during the games this happens? could the players be aware of time passing in between games, such that last life feels so different from double life and double life feels so different from limited life? would they notice the subtle changes in appearance, in attitude? would they feel the tone shift, the closer and closer they get to the watchers (or whatever the hell the secret keeper was), the urgency and calmness flowing in even streams throughout the series? do they know what will happen when the game ends? do they know that third life was 3 years ago? was it 3 years ago for them, or do the games happen in quick succession? is time different in the games to normal mc time, and how does that differ from our time in real life? minecraft days pass faster than ours do, so who's to know if it was 6 years ago for them, or 1 year, or two months? are the life games in some sort of alternate or pocket dimension, permanently separating them from any other smp, event, or world? do these different servers, seasons, what have you, feel different to the characters? are they able to tell that something is different, that they've aged or changed outside of the games, but they don't know why because they can't remember ever leaving them? could you imagine, for a moment, waking up one day, knowing something is different, knowing that you have been somewhere else and done something important and lived and knew more people and had a home, but not being able to remember any of it? not being able to comprehend what you're feeling, like you've lost something you never even knew existed? do you think that they remember their lives beyond the first time they joined the game, and are only left with that feeling of being ripped away from the rest of reality?
or, maybe none of that matters, because they get to go home and rest after each season, and the games are just games, and the players remember everything perfectly fine, because it's just another smp, and they're all just playing modified hardcore together. at the end of the day, it's all up to interpretations and personal headcanons and individual lore. but it's compelling (? idk im low on thought now) to think about how characters might experience time differently, or how they might react to time shifts they may or may not remember.
just some ideas and questions ive been thinking about for a while but haven't been able to fully write down.
choose violence ask game (life series edition)
oh my god, this is gonna be a bit long lmao, bear with me
1. the character everyone gets wrong
tango, i have rarely seen people get him just right. he's one of those characters that unfortunately gets molded into whatever the fandom needs him to be. dont blame them, i can admit i also struggled to have a good grasp of his character at first
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
i saw someone rant about how scott and cleo were just merciless bullies against pearl. which yeah, they were pretty mean to her, but the person didn't even attempt to understand scott and cleo's motivations. i know it doesn't seem much, but as someone who has a passion for that series's characters and their motivations it pissed me off that they were just ignored
4. what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person?
the person from the question above lol. i rarely block accounts (unless they're bots), but the post i mentioned had very disgusting vibes
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
solidaritek shippers who talk shit about flower husbands. and the opposite too, but i've seen that one more. let jimmy be loved by two people for fuck's sake!!
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
"dogwarts were the good guys actually" NO THEY FUCKING WERENT. watch the crastle or jimmy and scott (especially those two), dogwarts tried to forcefully take over all groups at one point. im not saying they were evil, they had understandable motivations...but that doesn't make them "good". i think this opinion popularized as pushback from "desert duo are the good guys" opinion (which is also wrong lol)
9. worst part of canon
the limited life ending, im sorry. not because martyn "played dirty", if anything that made the ending way better than it would've been. but the lead up from all three final perspectives were a bit underwhelming
10. worst part of fanon
sometimes people give too much power to the watchers to the point they take away autonomy from the characters. they are WATCHERS. they watch, not play. yes they put the players in the situation, but the players themselves are the ones putting the show
13. worst blorboficiation
i dont know if worst, but lizzie. she tends to be very dumbed down and infantilized. as if she didn't kill as boogey multiple times by making people trust her. dont get me wrong, she is chronically confused, but she is not a sweet innocent angel too fragile for this world
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
i really dont know anything about hermitcraft so there might be a reason for it, but i see a lot of fics that make that server the "safe haven/place of healing in between life games". i dont really watch hc, so whenever i see it in fics and they reference stuff from that server i go ???. not complaining of course, i just try to pick up the context clues and use the general fandom knowledge i gathered through osmosis
15. that one thing you see in fanart all the time
y'know, i still don't know what those things that people put on pearl's head are. they look like bunny ears, or two feathers sticking out. something i also see a lot is all the winners in stained glass windows, sometimes in a "Hall of Winners". i dont know where it came from, but i eat it up every single time, i love it
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
not a fan of romantic smalletho. i tried, the idea of them is fun, but they're just besties in my brain
17. there should be more of this type of fic/art
ender skizz!! his 3L red skin is so iconic. also more team best as superheroes. they called themselves the heroes of the server, dress them up as that
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
i dont see people referencing cleo's almost death by tree suffocation on the first episode of third life, even though they were so many perspectives of it. narratively, it was the first time that they saw death as a possible threat. outside of the story, it was so fucking funny. they were all chilling and suddenly, tree
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
i'll be honest, im not the biggest smut fan. i'm not against it, but i dont really get the appeal. i won't turn away an E rated fic if im interested on the concept of the overall fic, but i dont actively search them. i will say...treebark smut is always so well fucking written. the love, the devotion, the yearning, the desperation, the craving. treebark enjoyers can write a good sex scene, and you can quote me on that
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
bigb was jealous of ren and martyn in double life. he says it, out loud, multiple times. there's so many angles you can go with this and so much potential. there's the treebark angle of course, but there's also how bigb used that to avoid responsibility from having a secret soulmate behind ren's back. tbh ren and bigb's relationship overall is way too ignored for literally being the most interesting soulmate pair
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
a bit more overall mcyt than life series fandom, but any boundaries discourse, especially shipping for some reason. i have a lot of opinions, but overall i think we should stop fucking talking about "boundaries" so much. boundaries assumes a two-way interaction. and unless i am tagging the cc or putting stuff on their chats/comments or on knowingly frequented tags, what i am posting does not need their permission. does that mean "post everything, have no morals"? fuck no, but that is really the responsibility of each person. if i don't think something should be posted on the internet, i won't do it. if i see people posting that stuff, i will mute/block/report (if needed). you know what we shouldn't do? bring attention to uncomfortable shit to ccs when they are live (aiming this directly to the 2 donos in the last couple of weeks that have asked scar what his boundaries on shipping is, which he either truly doesn't understand or is purposely avoiding to reply). anyways, always causes rancid discourse and at worst full on witch hunts for shit that really doesn't matter
GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS i got an idea for a new au 😅 BUT HEY i believe it's ,y first actual Life Series AU, and i called it: nth life_
The usual team, no new characters, no lizzie and mumbo (sorry lizzie and mumbo), they get 3 lives (tho that could be changed) and their goal is... to survive in the void. (inspired by this video lololol)
Initially i wanted them to have some time on the surface, they they have to go down and survive in the void for as long as they can. i struggled to imagine how that would go, so i uh... accidentally might've made a Made in Abyss crossover 😅
So, each session, the guys go down lower and lower in the world. first it's just caves, then it's the deep dark, then they start going deeper and deeper... the nether and the end are also layers, they can't just go there whenever they want. And i want to add some cool mc mods in there to spice things up (mostly so layers are cool and different, but also mods that let them find or make food where there isn't any in vanilla)
Now, i don't want to copy Made in Abyss in that going back to the upper levels has more negative effects the lower you go, but i do want some sort of drawback to doing so. I think the lower levels could be opened up gradually, so nobody rushes, and the lower you go, the better materials and equipment you can get, so players are discouraged from staying in one place for too long, and setting up permanent bases IS NOT ALLOWED. You do need materials from every level to survive the void though.
Void really fucks with people's heads. The closer they are to it, the more paranoid and anxios they become. Some wil also become aggressive, have hallucinations or derealization, thinking they're in previous season or in a different series bringing up things that didn't happen and people that aren't there (Grian searching for Mumbo? Etho paranoid that Gem is out to get him? Pearl and Cleo feeling like Lizzie and Gem respectively possess them?)
With that, i think it could start out silly,similar to how the normal series usually goes, but, as theygo down, it gets more serious in tone and even steps into the horror category. that could be neat.
I either don't want watchers there at all, or have a non-obvious interpretation from fanon? Something like in OFF, DDLC or Undertale, where the player is a separate character in the story, but here it's the reader. Idk yet if the reader will be able to make choices or not. Could intepret watchers in some fun way, but only if it adds something to the story. They don't need to be there and they're only canon to Martyn anyway im pretty sure
I guess the reader could make a choice of whose story to follow, mirroring how you choose POV's when you're watching the actual series. Like, Martyn and Cleo are doing something, and there's Joel and Scar somewhere else at the same time, and you choose who to watch. Could also add replayability/rereadbility (is that a word??)
I imagine the whole thing as a text adventure, with cryptic vibes like "breaking the 4th wall/they know they're in a game" and "liminal space/backrooms". there could also be puzzles for the audience to solve to make it more engaging and immersive :)
Maybe i could start out by deciding who teams up with who. I don't want to pair up people who i actually want to pair up, cuz that could make me focus solely on them (looks at clethubs), but i still want the teams to go well together and have fun dynamics.
Some brainstorms from 1 am me:
For Jimmy, i want him to team with someone as stupid+silly+goofy like himself. Current options include: BigB, Martyn, Skizz (i might go w him) and Ren. Any combination of them could also work.
The team i'm 100% decided on is... Etho, Pearl and Cleo. Girlbosses + a wet rag
Joel and Bdubs would be suuuuper fun. Tango, Joel and Bdubs? Do i want a team that just gonna yell at eahc other all the time? Perhaps yes,
But Scott and Bdubs... sounds chaotic.
I want Grian with Impulse!!
Scar and Ren are left? Scar and Joel could be a good combo.
Aaaand that's everything for now. It's not an au i believe i can work on by myself though. as much as i like this concept, it feels like one of those that i will abandon very quickly, especially seeing as i have other au's i'd like to work on... but i want to at least do a lil bit on this one!! so uh... if anyone gets the vision and wants to collab... i invite u :D
