So funny story, I had to call all my family in Bavaria last December to tell them some horrible family news, and for three days I could not understand why my family would say Fertig and just hang up. But being Bavarian I assumed this was just a fairly stereotypical thing for them to do...so I finally asked why they just say Done and hang up...I was informed that that is not what they're saying but rather Vertig (totally spelled it wrong) and that it's just another dialect version of good bye...cuz knowing three dialects isn't enough now i need to learn a fourth

Speaking on the phone in German:

Food for thought

Tonight I was planning on making a tomato and avacado salad and paused for a sec because I had only 4 tomatoes left - like what am I doing, rationing? No idiot, you can go to the store tomorrow and buy more like a normal person. It's a feeling of scarcity that I grew up with in the land of abundance.
