HIII 13. talk about a wip you like!

WAAGH my current big WIP is this one!! Is part of the several Street Cats illustrations I am doing for the pitch/meant to work as promotion!! This one specifically focuses on the relationship between Laurel and Olive :3

It was made in traditional! The lines are indian ink, then with pencil I made the lines of where lights and shadows go! (I visualize doing the illumination in SC the way animation does it- I think it makes the process easier for me and it gives a clearer picture!) I also like that with the pencil I managed to get the cord board texture!!

30. whats something youre proud of about your artstyle?

OUGH mmm I really like how do colors!! also lineart in general, be in digital or traditional! Also, while it takes me more effort, I like that I am able to capture full scenes and draw more complex scenery like cities.

Hi Anie! Thanks for your question; it's not stupid, I think just not widely known in other places!

So for context within the Singapore culture (I'm sure it happens in other Indian/Desi diasporas as well but this is my experience as a Singaporean), there is a racist stereotype that Indians smell gross and therefore, are dirty. Just because the things we use are different from their culture. One of those scents that we use that gets used against us is the coconut oiled hair.

Anyways to be honest, as a kid I personally hated the coconut smell too I just didn't vibe with it but I loved it when my mom would massage my hair with it because I loved how soft it made my hair. That trumped how much I disliked the smell.

Then around primary/elementary school here, kids being racist assholes who didn't know any better and were probably told by their parents that if we (Indian classmates they might have) smelled weird it was probably because of our hair and oils. So alot of us Indian kids- not just me - would get called dirty, gross and smelly just for having coconut oil in our hair. It really seems ridiculous now in hindsight but it was very damaging. Most of my classmates were able to rise above it and keep to their traditions and rituals.

For me since I already disliked the smell, it wasn't too heartbreaking to give it up. I just switched in alternatives to keep my hair soft.

TDLR: Harmful, racist stereotypes is why people made fun of us Indians for having coconut scented hair.

I was thinking of doing it simultaneously too 🤩 because

(1) I can only try this simultaneous-update thing with the ongoing mafiatan/matters of the heart in the mafia series and packtan/running with the wolves series —which will happen very far into the future, so I really can't be sure that I will do it then 🙂 I know myself too well 🤡

(2) Doing it simultaneously makes it easier for me to keep track of everyone's feelings, reactions and you also get a glimpse into how their relationships with others affect their love stories and vice versa.

(3) The plot makes much more sense —especially because each event gives to a stepping stone to the other's love stories —for example: kinda spoiler-y but the events in Namjoon's story is what leads to the next four marriages and what happens in those four leads to the fifth one and sixth one. You can follow through the plot easily and it can cover up for me if I mess up 😉

Another thing I will have to figure out is how to post the chapters without giving away too much —because the next four chapters of The Lily Of Bangtan is only the beginning of The Moonflower Of Bangtan 😅

Initially, the mafiatan series was to be one large book with multiple pov changes every chapter but it was too ambitious of a first project 😅 and I really had/have (?) no experience writing my own plots and characters before this ( my only fic before this being a fix-fic I wrote for a drama because I was frustrated at the lack of shipping material for my favourite ship 🙄 which reminds me, I haven't finished it yet 🤡 ) and I wasn't sure if I can truly make the experience worth it 🙄

My only problem with not doing it simultaneously is like you said, spoilers 🥺

Because each event affects the others' stories and in some cases, the troubles are the same with different viewpoints —especially towards the end, I was worried about spoiling the endings.

I don't know how creative I have been with the plot, so I didn't want to take chances with losing the little suspense that I might've built up 🙄😅 —for example, if you already know at the end of a fic, this character is safe and unharmed, you won't be as bothered when I put them in danger in the start of another fic 🙃

Am I making sense? I hope I do because in my head, it does 🙄

Don't get your hopes too high with my convoluted descriptions though 🤡 it's not that serious 🙄 I'm just ✨ dramatic✨🥺
