30.06.2024, लखनऊ | महान वीरांगना उदा देवी पासी जी की जन्म जयंती के अवसर पर हेल्प यू एजुकेशनल एंड चैरिटेबल ट्रस्ट द्वारा ट्रस्ट के इंदिरा नगर स्थित कार्यालय में श्रद्धापूर्ण पुष्पांजलि कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया | कार्यक्रम के अंतर्गत हेल्प यू एजुकेशनल एंड चैरिटेबल ट्रस्ट के प्रबंध न्यासी श्री हर्ष वर्धन अग्रवाल, ट्रस्ट की आंतरिक सलाहकार समिति के सदस्य श्री पंकज अवस्थी, ट्रस्ट के स्वयंसेवकों ने उदा देवी पासी जी के चित्र पर पुष्पांजलि अर्पित कर उन्हें सादर नमन किया |

इस अवसर पर हेल्प यू एजुकेशनल एंड चैरिटेबल ट्रस्ट के प्रबंध न्यासी श्री हर्ष वर्धन अग्रवाल ने कहा कि, “उदा देवी एक प्रमुख राजपूत रानी थीं  | जिन्होंने अपने शौर्य, साहस और नि:स्वार्थ भाव के साथ देश की रक्षा की । उन्होंने अपने जीवन में अद्वितीय बहादुरी और साहस का परिचय दिया एवं राजपूत समाज की महिलाओं के लिए एक मिसाल स्थापित की |  उदा देवी ने राजपूतों के साथ मिलकर अकबर के खिलाफ लड़ाई लड़ी और देश की स्वतंत्रता के लिए अपने जीवन का समर्पण किया | उनकी वीरता हमें हमेशा प्रेरित करती है और हमें याद दिलाती है कि महिलाएं भी अपने देश के लिए समर्पित हो सकती हैं । उदा देवी की शौर्य और साहस भरी कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि किसी भी परिस्थिति में अड़ियल और साहसी रहना चाहिए तथा अपने लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करने के लिए किसी भी मुश्किल को पार करने की क्षमता होनी चाहिए । आज उदा देवी जयंती पर हम उनकी वीरता और समर्पण को शत शत नमन करते हैं तथा भारत देश की प्रत्येक महिला से उदा देवी की तरह साहसी और स्वाभिमानी बनने की अपील करते हैं |"

इस मौके पर हेल्प यू एजुकेशनल एंड चैरिटेबल ट्रस्ट के प्रबंध न्यासी हर्ष वर्धन  अग्रवाल ने कहा, 'भारतीय इतिहास में पुरुष क्रांतिकारियों का जिक्र तो खूब मिलता है, लेकिन किसी महिला क्रांतिकारी या सैनिक की कहानियां कम ही बताई जाती हैं।इन्हीं महिला क्रांतिकारियों में से एक थीं ऊदा देवी पासी, जिन्होंने अपनी वीरता से अंग्रेजों को धूल चटा दी थी | आज ऊदा देवी का शहादत दिवस है | ऊदा देवी की वीरता दलितों और महिलाओं की वीरता को दर्शाती है | इसी दिन वह अंग्रेजों से कड़ी लड़ाई का सामना करते हुए वीरगति को प्राप्त हुई थीं | उनकी आश्चर्यजनक वीरता को देखकर ब्रिटिश अधिकारी कैंपबेल ने अपनी टोपी उतार दी और उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी |

This article that I chose today is called “The Martial Hill Women: Sabitri Devi & Puralimaya Devi Poddar” which discusses two prominent women freedom fighters who participated in the nationalist struggle for the independence of their nation-state. Especially for women in India, conforming to the culture of the ‘nation-state’ makes them “...feel unnoticed or ignored even if not devalued when it comes to their historiographical narrative” (Sharma). I think this stands to be true in many other countries as well, even the United States. Historically, women are not equally represented in leadership positions in government, both local and federal, and also in recognition for major accomplishments in fields across the board. This makes it easy, as Sharma put it, to feel unnoticed, ignored and devalued in the historical and cultural narrative of our respective countries. 

In the region of Darjeeling, India specifically, many men have fought for the independence of their religion but the women who have made similar contributions to this fight have not been accurately acknowledged or represented. Sabitri “...had led a rally of laborers of Jharia in 1921 as a part of the Non-Cooperation Movement” (Sharma). She also gathered volunteers to start a campaign against foreign goods in Siliguri and led resistance rallies back home. An entire anti-government case was open against her, and she met with Gandhi in 1925. She was given many titles and awards and deserves to be recognized for these accomplishments. Putalimaya Devi Poddar also participated in the nationalist struggle by keeping in touch with Congressmen while she was a student, and eventually organized a ‘massive procession with other Congress members’ in 1942. As women of such a conservative and patriarchal society, they had to break major barriers that restricted their growth of women as political figures.
