"Mm, no, I don't think so," Alastor replied with an undercurrent of distaste in his voice despite the trademark toothy grin. He'd been looking through the proposed new 'additions' to the hotel walls - the admittedly tasteful photographs with a subject matter that he found particularly unappealing. He was already moderately fed up with the amount of familial photos that Charlie had deigned to hang out and around the entryway to the building - he didn't need to be glancing at more things that he had not elected to put up himself.

a development today. a new face in my office, once again, nothing very new. but she was interesting, for once. i don't see too many interesting offers put on my table these days. mostly normal, easy, wickedly pathetic little things seeking some kind of protection or just work. those ones are easy to handle. they're always willing to part with just about anything to get what they feel like they need, && it's usually pretty easy to negotiate. even just simple work contracts are easy. i offer benefits, they work egregious hours, with little vacation time, && then the consequences of quitting are pretty clear. eventually, i will be able to snag that bit of territory i've had my eye on. the bigger building, the whole block. it's only a matter of time.

but there's a woman who's come in with an interesting proposal. she wants in, she wants some kind of help defending herself && staying safe during the exterminations. understandable — difference is, she actually has a good amount of talent that i can see in the way she holds herself, && in her work. it's a specific genre of work, which might not be very wise right now, but i can't see a real reason not to invest. she seems very interesting.

i think i will find this investment fairly fruitful, even if it may take longer than initially hoped for. she's got a lot of charm, both physically && otherwise. she's like to make a name for herself. i intend to tie myself to that, most definitely. she has the talent, && with her style, it may be worth bringing her on as a larger partner later. there's only one way to find out.

" Wouldn't make a difference now, would it ? Unless you plan on bringing trouble on my doorstep. " Alastor didn't do the hauntings as much as he used to in the past, as he now had a hotel to manage. He didn't consider redemption as a path for himself, for lord knows he was too far beyond such a thing.

  a small hum escapes him as he surveys the drink, reaching out to tap a red claw against the glass.  whiskey neat is not necessarily a bad drink of choice, though also not necessarily his favorite. it is, in all honesty, acceptable enough that he takes it to look at if nothing else.

  “ lonely is not an accurate description, my dear. why, with a dour description like that, you’d think I’m not simply the life of the party! ”  a soft laugh track plays along with his own laugh, though it’s unclear exactly where it’s coming from.  “ but a good man never turns down a drink. ”

he did believe in it, too. perhaps there was simply a little delay in the interest, or that there were various other subjects that could gather one's attention here, from the sins they could commit that were allowed. the richer, more refined folk far from presided over the pride ring, at least, so he could not blame her for having had more trouble here than she might have been used to.

a slight smile at her compliments towards his own work && abilities to rise. he was adaptable, naturally, && did not hesitate to adjust anything he needed to in order to accomplish his goals. he was gifted with the ability to read && ride the trends of society, to endear himself to every corner of the social sphere, && he worked hard to keep it that way.

a - ha. there it was. the inevitable turn of the conversation. she did not simply want a job, a position at his establishment. no, she wanted more than that, something to protect her. something to bring her power, too, && vox found his grin appearing upon his display.

❝ that does sound like quite the problem. but let me be frank — i think you have plenty of potential, && i think investing in you will be a good choice. it may still take a little while to stick, but i'm prepared to put some things together. ❞

vox moved back in his seat, stretched his hands out, && summoned two stacks of what appeared to be paperwork.

❝ the question now remains, what are you desiring in all of that? are you offering your soul? or are you simply looking for employment? i can offer quite the investment regardless, although certainly having my name over your head in a more literal way offers a bit more. it also has a few different perks than just a mere work contract. ❞

She watched him carefully as he spoke and looked through her work, studying him as if he were simply another conquest or victim - he was, by nature, harder to read than other sinners. That digital countenance revealed little; no jaw muscles clenching, no expression appearing without his say-so. From what she could glean, in any case. That made this that much harder; unable to rely on her usual talent of reading expressions. At least she could still read his body language...

And it seemed that, at the very least, he was marginally interested. "Oh, you have? How lovely," she purred, almost mirroring him by leaning in herself. "Been to any of my galleries? I must say, it's taken a while to get where I am now... Hell doesn't appreciate the fine arts," she continued with a sigh.

Her gaze flicked down to where he continued to thumb through her portfolio, then back up to meet his red and cyan eyes. "Oh, I've every confidence in my work," she insisted with a smile. "But there's something here... I've been in Hell a while and I've never seen an Overlord gain such notoriety so quickly. Regardless of if your, ah... office space is lacking at the moment."

Ilaera leaned back, crossing her legs while continuing to observe Vox. She was playing it like she had the upper hand, here - as if she wasn't the one about to ask for a favour.

"I want in on all this. But besides that..."

The feline sinner trailed off, disgust at her own emotions twisting her gut, making the next words rather difficult to get out.

"I've had some close calls with the Exterminations as of late. The abilities I manifested with are hardly enough to keep myself safe if I'm ever caught out on E-Day, and I don't much fancy risking it every year for an eternity."

With a sigh, she leaned forward once again, positioning her chin to rest on hands as she gazed unwaveringly at the up and coming Overlord.

"To put it simply, I need more power. I need a deal."

absolutely!!!!! listen vox is very easy to hateship with, love && hate for him are very much different sides of the same coin, && he's easy to start something purely sexual with honestly?? like, all you really have to do is offer with confidence && perservere through his disbelief ( he might think you're joking ), so like

romance with him isnt as hard as it may seem, too, just show him a lil genuine care / affection && he will fall hard && fast. he just also is likely to pine for eighty years before he says a thing about it

Turning sharply to regard her as he was addressed, Alastor quirked a brow at her seeming worry. Certainly he could see why others would fear the attention of other Overlords, the average sinner had little in the way of protecting themselves against someone with such accrued power but he was no lowly sinner. It felt like she was questioning his abilities, implying that he couldn't protect those within the hotel. -- ❝My DEAR, I have no concern about other Overlords, they know well enough not to cross me.❞ He'd felled enough over the years to make any reasonable Overlord think twice before trying something so ridiculous, especially for no real discernable reason. Afterall, what care would they have that he'd had to deal with a few wayward cretins that turned their sights on the hotel? It wouldn't be the first time and certainly wouldn't be the last. -- ❝Would you rather I'd have stood by and let them burn this place to the ground? Killed everyone inside? I did what was necessary TO keep those inside safe.❞ Of course that hadn't been the sole reason, he was quite thankful for the intrusion given how it had let him vent frustrations, that reminder of his leash from Husker had been quite enough to set him simmering. Truly there could have been no better excuse for it.

EXHAUSTED, but he did not move. he had heard something odd, in the halls of the office, && there were few other places it could have been coming from outside of ilaera's space. so here he was, checking in, finding himself immediately shoo'd away. annoying. but he was not going anywhere.

he was quick to peer around the room, searching for possible damage, unsure what had really happened.
