Oh, I’m not a fan of Ms. Kimiko, I just recognize her from my dad’s work. He’s an art director for a publishing company. He actually helped create one of the jewelry ads she was featured in. I heard Kimiko was really tough to work with though, especially if you’re a photographer or a make-up artist. Very demanding is what I heard. She a woman that knows what she wants.-Evie
[He nods thoughtfully, his expression fixed and impossible to read.] Mm... Yes, well. It’s very easy to get taken advantage of in that kind of industry. Better to know what you want in life and get that than let yourself get swept away...
Anyway. That’s interesting to hear... I don’t meet many people who’ve worked with her anymore, especially since she’s been on her hiatus...

[A maid answers the door within minutes. She gives the hero a solemn look before allowing him into the mansion.]
He’s in his study, [she informs him knowingly.] Would you like me to lead the way there?
[Hawks knocks on the Monoma's door almost hesitantly. The one he's more familiar with. Grand and beautiful on every front, made of money, undeniably the house of someone very successful.
It feels strange to be here for such an innocent reason.]

That’s so COOL! Oh, I know I’m going to see your face everywhere in the future. I can totally see Phantom Thief being on the Hero Billboard chart some day. How exciting! I bet your family is extremely proud.
Ah.... haha! Yeah! Yeah, that’s the hope...
Mm. They really are... Maybe a little too proud, haha. Ojisan loves to boast about me, he always has. Gets to be a bit much at times but ah, well~

You said, “back home” so, are you not staying in the dorms?
Haha... oh, no, no... I consider the dorms my home, I guess! Little slip of the tongue, eheh...

I’m just going to take a wild guess and say you got your looks from your mom😊
Hehehe... 😊😊 I did, yes!! My father looks like a stranger in comparison, honestly, the only thing we really share is some of our interests...

I never asked you, but what do your parents do for a living? Do they travel a lot for work?
Oh... My mother doesn’t work much. If and when she does, it’s more a gig than anything else, like she’s been pulled into commercials and adverts on more than one occasion (as have I, when I was younger!)
My father likes to do a few things... he enjoys freelance work. He writes, he edits, sometimes he even performs... first and foremost, though, he’s a librarian. Adjunct. So he goes wherever he’s needed.

That sounds amazing! What places have you visited? And do you have a favorite destination?
It was!!!
Ahh, I might forget a few, honestly... Forgive me if I do, hehe. But I’ve been to Europe maybe 6 or so times and America about 3 times now. The first place I’ve ever been to was France when I was about eight, but I haven’t been there again since... And then I’ve also been to London (twice?) and the Netherlands, and then Italy like I’ve mentioned. I believe I’ve also stopped into Greece once, when I was... ten? I don’t remember those trips very much.
Any trip to America has always been to somewhere in New England, and we stopped by New York City every time.
My grandparents both have such a love of travel that they’ve instilled in me growing up, and they’d always try and bring me along when they went out for work or for play. I think I’ve spent more summers outside of the country than in, at least, in my childhood...?
And I have to say France is my favorite! I’m really looking forward to going there again!

Wait! Tell me about your birthday last year. Where did you go and what all did you do?
Ahhh... I went to Venice with my grandfather! It was only for a few days, so mostly we saw the sights, and I got to watch a show at the Teatro La Fenice!!! Oh, it was wonderful, we went to all these lavish restaurants and went along the canal under the stars and just talked about life...

Awww, you’re relationship with Eri is so sweet. I’m sure she would love to see you soon. And yes, it would probably feel like having a little sister around. I’m an only child too, so I totally get how you feel. I was the worst when I was a little kid, I use to ask my parents for a little brother or sister a lot.
Haha!! I was the opposite, I really didn’t want siblings ad would make my mother promise she wouldn’t have any more kids because she wasn’t allowed to love anyone but me, ehehee... I wasn’t the best at sharing the spotlight, then....~

If you weren’t going to be hero in training, what would you do instead? Go to college?
Eh… perhaps… Getting some sort of Higher Education has always been an intention of mine. It would just depend on what exactly I’d try and study.
However… If I weren’t to become a hero, I’d probably try and do something in entertainment… Becoming an actor or a director, something like that. Perhaps something in advertisement. Perhaps working for some sort of Public Relations office if I could manage the stress of it.
Realistically, I’d likely just work for my grandfather’s company… mm.

How would Kimiko judge : Kuroiro , Kendo, Pony, Kinoko, Setsuna, Shiozaki, Kamakiri, and Reiko? They seem like your closet friends!☺️
gonna do this ooc because mono wouldn’t know shjfsfg
SO the thing about kimiko being Judgey is because, well, she was raised with exceptionally high expectations that she fell VERY short of... so she kind of has this constant weight on her shoulders keeping in mind all these things she was supposed to be. so, her outlet for that is to also push those expectations on other people, because at least her failure is predetermined. she’s not as lucky as the rest of the world, so the fortunate ones around her SHOULD be able to meet those expectations and easily, at the very least.
SO, without further adieu.... some opinions... that kimiko very helpfully supplies to monoma after meeting his friends:
kuroiro:
hates his posture, thinks he’s too quiet, he has a look that she can appreciate the aesthetic of (it’s good to be fashionable) but she finds him rather dreary and wishes he’d do something with his hair rather than keeping it looking like a ragged mop. appreciates how polite he is though!
kendou:
listen, she knows kendou and knows she and mono are besties but god she wishes she’d do something with her... everything. she doesn’t like her look at ALL. she’d be kind of just really wanting kendou to be more feminine... dies every moment she doesn’t just see her with her hair down... but she thinks she’s smart! she thinks she’s wise above her years, actually. she just doesn’t think anyone will take her seriously if she’s... like that... but she wants her to succeed, especially since she’s class rep! dress for success, kendou...!!!
pony:
thinks she’s dumb and dull SHDFKBSDJHG very unimpressed with the ditzy act... and let’s be clear here, she thinks it’s an act, anyone who can get two languages down that fast has to have some intelligence so she really needs to stop acting so spacey >:O one of her least favorites tbh r.i.p.
kinoko:
very................................. unimpressed. girl, the hair. you tried. again, she doesn’t like hyper/ditzy types so ultimately she’d just be very irritated in kinoko’s presence and would want her to stop acting like a cartoon character. another least favorite u_u
setsuna:
thinks she’s spunky...! she appreciates the attitude, she’s a little out there for her tastes but she does like her. pretty much, setsuna’s whole vibe is what she wishes kendou would be more like and she’d compare the two constantly. the fact that she’s one of the recommended students definitely helps, she’d hold her in very high esteem (though, mind you, the second she hears about any failures from her, she’s GONNA be bashing her)
shiozaki:
kimiko ADORES her... until she opens her mouth kfhsjf and then she’d find her very haughty and diss her on what she would consider a superiority complex like constantly. but she finds her very elegant and beautiful and striking
kamakiri:
s a v a g e.... she doesnt like him >:O she’d feel like he’s setting a bad example for her mono!!! not just a bad example but he just doesn’t fit the image of the kind of people monoma should surround himself with (psst... shiozaki does)... VIOLENT.... no >:T she doesn’t like him at all and does not want them to spend time with each other, but she’d allow it after monoma defended kama to her u_u
reiko:
doesn’t trust her :/ she thinks she’s kind of creepy... doesn’t like how quiet she is, doesn’t like her more unpredictable behaviors... i think she’d grow very used to reiko once she got to know her and really appreciate her and think she’s even precious, but her first impression is that she doesn’t like her hair and wishes she’d carry herself better

.09.07.
“I don’t understand how this could have happened.”
Monoma laid in bed. He could paint the scene for himself easily, even from where he was. His mother’s footsteps, soft against the floor as she paced back and forth outside of his hospital room. His grandfather, still besides the occasional tap of his cane against the porcelain. Nurses, informing them as gently as they could, frowning and shaking their heads as they watched them take the horror in.
They’re all gathered outside in the hallway, like they don’t care if he overheard it all. Like they wanted him to. They parade around their misery, sympathetic vultures grabbing for the plight around them.
“I just don’t understand it,” his mother said again. He listened to the strain in her voice, picking it apart. Grief. Horror. Anger. She can’t lash out enough.
“It’s... terrible,” his grandfather agreed, a calm, deliberate quality to his tone.
“Where was he that this could have-” Kimiko faltered, turned on her heel, a sharper sound striking into the air as she continued to pace around. “I don’t believe this. I thought there was a curfew to prevent these things.”
“Yes, but according to his story, he’d purposely neglected it to-”
“And why was he allowed to? What’s the point of the whole damn thing if he’s just allowed to waltz outside for any damn criminal to do what they want with him?”
His grandfather tapped his cane against the floor again. “...”
“I want to talk to Hawks. And I want to talk to his school. I want someone to be held responsible for this.” Kimiko spun towards her father. “We can file a lawsuit about this, can we not?”
Naito raised a brow. “And make this matter public?”
“... Excuse us-” The nurses were quick to file their way out as Kimiko glowered hard at the man.
“Why not? You’ve never hesitated to broadcast anything about him before.”
“That was different,” Naito replied slowly.
“Well, pardon fucking me, I don’t see how.”
“Language.” Naito tapped his cane again. “You were mad at me for days after all that. Now you want to do the same, follow my ‘bad example’...”
She rolled her eyes. “Now you’ve developed a conscience.”
He clicked his tongue. “It was in my right to do. It was all publicized anyway. You... do not understand the media. You don’t understand how this will affect him. You just want someone to blame.”
She glared at him silently.
Naito shook his head at her, tapping once more. “I won’t use my money for something like this. Leave the poor school alone. We have the name of the one who did it, leave it at that. Let the heroes do their work.”
“The heroes,” Kimiko spat out, disgusted at the word as she returned to her pacing. “Bastard’s been on and off the news for years now, never even caught once, oh yes, leave it to the heroes who can’t do shit, and now he’s after my son-”
“Language,” Naito repeated, sounding slightly more irritated now.
“Been after my son, how many damn times has that school been attacked? We should have pulled him out from the start. When he was failing and I told you it was all too hard on him and you insisted, oh, let him continue, let him find his footing, we should have just taken him out. Then none of this would have happened!”
“And squash on the boy’s dreams?”
Kimiko glared at him. “Oh, I hate you. I hate how you twist things like that. What do his dreams matter when they’re killing him?”
Naito watched her quietly.
“Answer me. Do you think any of that matters? He won’t even come close to achieving anything at this rate. He’ll sooner wind up in a coffin. It’s not worth it, father.”
Naito only shrugged. “It’s what he wants.”
“So I’m the bad guy for not wanting him to die.”
“You’re being a little dramatic.”
Kimiko’s face suddenly reddened in a furious burst across her cheeks. “My son is-” she hissed between her teeth before she stopped, suddenly stilling, eyes suddenly wet. “Fine.”
Naito nodded at her, giving one last tap of his cane. “Yes.”
“So we do nothing.”
“And leave it to the heroes, yes.” He nodded once again. “It’s the best we can do in this case.”
“And we just... let him go back. To letting his life get ruined and everything else.”
“Not in so many words... but, yes.” Naito sighed. “This year could be better.”
“It could be worse.”
“Or it could be better. So little faith, my girl.”
Kimiko scrubbed her tears away hard. “Take me home.”
“There’s still a few people we need to talk to about this, dear.”
“Then I’ll be in the car.” She stormed away without another word, leaving Naito to only shake his head, expression slightly bemused.
“...”
Monoma listened to his mother’s footsteps disappearing. He thought of school, of trying to return to it.
“...”
