Of cookies and milk

At a cafe, in a sunny seaside boulevard,

A cup of strong coffee, in my hands,

A smell of the sea, rising through the air,

Gulls shrieking loudly, and an interruption in my thoughts.

The waiter had arrived, with a plate of freshly-baked cookies,

They were chocolate-chip, all soft and gooey.

I picked one up and took a bite,

A breeze blew in my mind, turning the pages of my memories.

They were exactly the same cookies my mother made, on my birthday,

Vague images of a plate of cookies and a glass of milk,

Hiding behind the Christmas tree to see Santa,

On a picnic with my family,

The wind in my hair.

A sudden jerk,

Brought me back to reality,

From those reminiscences,

Of an age long past.

A hand was on my shoulder,

Holding me tight,

It was my mother,

Smiling fondly at me.

I got inspired today to make a Margherita inspired pizza after I went grocery shopping today and found fresh basil for the first time in months! I decided to make some Margherita stuffed chicken breasts. It’s as simple as it sounds but it was incredibly delicious. Today I thought I'd share the original photograph, or rather mess that my 2yr old created. It became the inspiration for my print "Sprinkles". Someone the other day said the print looked edible.
