Book Info: Petals and Embers by Teertha Anil Pages: 60 Genre: Poetry. Summary: Petals, full of the promise of life may yet grow, from the Embers of a dying fire. There is both desolation and delight, melancholy and might, in the author’s life, in people, in things of substance. Petals and Embers capture the anger, anxiety, love, and every other emotion and color in the spectrum of life. Ranging from topics of violence against women and mental health to deeply personal emotions, this collection of poems covers it all. Experience both the petals of merriment and an ember-like melancholy between these pages. Some lines can be more relatable than others, but there is something for everyone. My Ratings: 💙💙💙💙💙/5 Stars. My Review: I really loved this book. It is a 60-page short poetry book and each poetry is so beautifully written and nicely carved. The writing is clean with no grammatical errors and each poem has its own unique feeling. I felt that the author wrote each poem by getting emotionally connected to it and I could relate to so many poems and the beauty was so elegantly brought out. The name Petal And Embers sounds so nice and pleasing just like the book is!! I am in love with how the poetry was emotionally attaching to me. No words were repeated and I finished the book in one sitting. Overall it was a nice book with a great writing style, it was a short and sweet read that's definitely worth trying once. ✨Blog Tour Stop: The Last Nomad by Shugri Said Salh (@shugrisalh) The memoir of Shugri Said Salh is remarkable. She has survived the nomadic life in the desert. She has run from civil war in her home country. She lived life as a refugee in Kenya. She has gained her freedom and independence by escaping to Canada. She is finally living a life of purpose, and hoping to leave a legacy of stories behind her to give to her children and her children’s children. She does not want her story to die with her. She wants her life and her culture to be remembered. I was deeply enthralled by Shugri’s memoir and all that she faced as a young girl, leading up to her coming of age in the Somali culture. The nomadic lifestyle she endured during her childhood helped to shape and mold the very person she is today. Shugri details how living in a nomadic community built her, and how her resilience and independence came from watching her mighty ayeeyo (grandmother) and her commanding presence, which set the tone for her life. Shugri Said Salh, details life in Somalia, educating her readers about the culture and life as a daughter, in the Muslim faith. She discusses the burdens that are placed on young women in the Somali culture and how she navigated life in this very patriarchal/patrilineal society. We learn about how she developed a strong sense of self and self-reliance from her beloved grandmother. I loved Shugri’s spirit of being able to figure things out and how she learned to move on and not dwell when things don’t go your way, but to use those shortcomings and deficiencies into something worthwhile and meaningful. Shugri has a powerful voice and story to share with the world, and her children should be proud to know that their mother is a strong and fearless elder. Diving into some early Holiday/Birthday presents this afternoon from the lovely @vhellmer, Encounters Around The Tarot Volumes 1 & 2 by Enrique Enriquez (with a few fanciful impressions of my own) Imagine if you will- a sparsely lit Loft party in the Village, held by our curating author (EE) on the pretense of a gallery opening or performance art piece. In attendance are notable members of the NY and International Meta-Literati: Artists, Historians, Philosophers, Writers and Professors (as well as Magician or two.) Conversation begins formally at first, with talk of books recently read and shows participated in or seen; but as one cup becomes III or IV the conversation treads back to the shared passion of their host and true raison d'etre-the Marseille Tarot. Even if this spectacular gathering is just a personal invention of my reading experience, there is an undeniable thread that flows through these individual works. They read less like essays and more like Socratic dialogues. As spoken word pieces they communicate ideas stripped of dusty scholarship and instead show Tarot as being an intimately applicable, free-form, present tense visual language. For those of us who consider Tarot a bottomless subject of interest (a true "Hobby Horse" a la Tristram Shandy) then you’ll find plenty to hold your attention.
