Y con esta fue con la que compararon a Yoani Sánchez, pues va a ser que no estaban tan equivocados. Yo la apoyé el inicio, pero cuando vi en su cuarto un afiche con la foto del AChesino le quité todo mi apoyo. Esta fue el inventico de los Clinton para Birmania.

Hasta que podamos jugar

Cerró rapidamente la puerta de la alcoba, echó el seguro y lentamente retrocedió. Miraba sus manos y no podía creerlo, las impregnaba un rojo carmesí, brillante, vibrante. Lo había hecho. Se sentó al borde de la cama, ahora si, pueden jugar.

Vanessa vivía con su madre Joan, era una mujer delgada, de cabello rizado y rojizo, con grandes ojos que mostraban eterna preocupación, con una piel más envejecida de lo habitual. Desde años se desempeña en el mismo trabajo, gerente del Super Supremo y aunque aspira a más, se conforma con su puesto.

Dado al trabajo de Joan, Vanessa no podía estar junto con ella, al ser solo las dos, de pequeña se quedaba en la casa de la vecina Patty, quien decía que era la niña más alegre, curiosa y enérgica que conocía. Comentaba que siempre hallaba qué hacer y tenía un fiel compañero de aventuras “Mathew”.

- Gracias por cuidarla Patty, no sé qué haría sin ti dijo Joan.

- Es un placer, tu sabes que yo felíz de la vida, además no la cuido yo, Vane me dice que quien la cuida realmente es Mathew, hoy me dijo que él la salvó de la maceta que cayó de la ventana.

- ¿En serio? ¿cómo así?

- No veci tranquila, es que se cayó la maceta, esa que tengo en la ventana que da hacia el patio y Vane me dijo que Mathew la salvó, ique le avisó y ella se quitó ¿puedes creerlo? ¡Cuánta imaginación tiene esa niña!

Joan queda extrañada y dice – Si veci, cuánta imaginación-

Al llegar a casa, Joan empieza a preparar la cena, coloca una olla con agua y mientras espera el hervor le pregunta a Vanessa acerca de lo ocurrido

- Vane, Patty me comentó que casi te cae una maceta encima ¿me cuentas qué pasó?

Vanessa estaba sentada en la mesa, con varias hojas y crayones, dibujaba como suele hacer mientras espera la comida. Responde –es que estaba jugando con Mathew mamá y yo estaba debajo de la ventana y pasó Phil (el gato de Patty) por la ventana y casi, casi me cae la maceta, pero Mathew me salvó, me avisó me gritó y se puso de un color todo raro mami, como así mira –Vanessa levanta su hoja en la que se observa a una niña al lado de una maceta rota y un figura azulada de cara alargada a su lado.

Joan, lo mira y le dice –Ya hemos hablado de esto Vanessa, Mathew no existe, ya tienes 9 años ¿ok? Los niños pequeños son los que tienen amigos imaginarios o ¿es que tu eres una niña pequeña?

- Pero es que el no es de mentira mamá, es de verdad, miralo, él esta aquí.

- ¡Basta Vanessa! Estoy harta, ya te dije ¡no me juegas más con ese invento tuyo!

En ese momento se cierra una puerta de golpe y Vanessa grita –OTRA VEZ LO HICISTE ENOJAR- y corre a su habitación. Los ojos de Joan se nublan, no solo de l��grimas, la olla se está quemando.

El reloj marcaba las dos de la mañana, Vanessa, como todas las noches, estaba levantandose para encontrarse con Mathew. Mathew la solía esperar en un rincón de la habitación, de espalda a ella y con la cabeza baja. “A las dos de la mañana se puede jugar, a las dos de la mañana no vienen a molestar” –murmuraba Vanessa-.

El sol se asomaba por la ventana de Vanessa, su madre se paró sigilosamente junto a su puerta, escuchó la risas de su hija y el correteo en su habitación. Joan sonrió, tocó la puerta y saludó a su hija, le avisó que bajaría a preparar el desayuno y que esperaba que ella estuviera sentada en la mesa en 10 minutos.

Huevos, tostadas y jugo de naranja, un desayuno perfecto para Vanessa pensó Joan. Pasaron 15 minutos y Vanessa aun no bajaba.

-Vanessa llegarás tarde al colegio, baja –avisó Joan desde las escaleras.

- Voy, ya casi terminamos –respondió Vanessa.

¿Terminamos? ¿será que se equivocó? o ¿está con ese inventico otra vez? Pensó Joan. Al sentarse en la silla Vanessa comienza a comer y su madre aprovecha para preguntarle acerca de ese “terminamos”

- Vanessa me parece que cuando te llamé hace un rato me dijiste “casi terminamos” –señala joan.

- Vanessa mira al rincón, vuelve a ver a su madre y asienta con la cabeza.

- Pero ¿qué es eso Vanessa? – pregunta Joan con tono preocupado.

- ¿Qué cosa mamá?

- Vanessa, Vanessa, déjame entenderte hija, ¿por qué dijiste “casi terminamos”? –decía Joan mientras se sentaba al lado de su hija.

“Me equivoqué, dile, dile, dile… Me equivoqué, me equivoqué, me equivoqué…” escuchó en un susurro Vanessa, miró a su alrededor y ahí estaba Mathew, vuelve a escuchar “Dile, dile, dile… me equivoqué, me equivoqué, me equivoqué”. Vanessa le responde a su madre “me equivoqué”. Joan abraza a su hija, ella mira nuevamente al rincón pero ya no está Mathew.

“Feliz cumpleaños Vanessa” llevaba escrito un pastel vestido de blanco y con 13 velas. Vanessa las sopla todas y su único deseo era “déjame jugar”. Su madre la abraza fuertemente, Vanessa lo soporta y camina al patio, corre, ríe y parece hasta cantar. Su madre la mira desde la ventana, las lagrimas brotan y es inevitable, tiene años luchando, ella sabe que Vanessa intenta ocultarlo, en un principio la obligaba a dejarlo, pero no ganó esa batalla, Mathew sigue ahí.

- Vamos Vanessa ya es tarde, ayudame a limpiar –le dice Joan desde la puerta del patio a Vanessa.

- Ya voy mamá.

No había mucho qué limpiar, pero Joan buscaba cualquier excusa para tratar de acercarse a su hija.

- ¿Lo pasaste bien? Preguntó Joan.

- Si, si, pude estar con casi todos mis amigos –respondió Vanessa de manera instantanea, mientras llevaba el pastel y el cuchillo a la cocina.

- ¿Casi todos? ¿Faltó alguien? –preguntaba Joan, quien iba detrás de su hija-.

- Te digo si me prometes que no te enojas.

- ¿Quién faltó?

- No faltó, pero no pude jugar con él, es solo un amigo mamá. -“Hazlo, hazlo, hazlo”- escuchó Vanessa, mientras enjuagaba el cuchillo en el lavaplatos.

- Sabes que puedes decirme cualquier cosa ¿verdad? –Le dice Joan.

“Hazlo, hazlo, hazlo” escuchaba más fuerte Vanessa, Mathew estaba en el rincón. –tranquila mamá, igual jugamos después- le responde a Joan, sin soltar el cuchillo.

- Aun no me has dicho quién es ese amigo, no, ya va, es que ¿a caso te gusta un chico?

- Mamá no, ya deja, solo es un amigo ¿ok? –“hazlo, hazlo, hazlo”- escuchaba más cerca, Mathew avanzaba y el cuchillo parecía fundirse en la mano de Vanessa. Dos, tres gotas de sangre tocaron el fondo del lavaplatos –me corté- dijo Vanessa. Mathew desapareció.

El reloj marcaba las dos de la mañana, Mathew estaba en el rincón, Vanessa se sienta al borde de la cama y dice “ya sé, vamos”. Baja las escaleras con cuidado, se dirige a la cocina, abre la primera gabeta a la derecha del lavaplatos, su mano encuentra el cuchillo, Vanessa lo toma, mira a Mathew y sonríe.

Suben lentamente las escaleras, se dirigen a la habitación de Joan, se paran frente a su puerta, Vanessa respira profundamente y al exhalar baja la manilla.

- ¿Mamá?

Vanessa, Mathew y el cuchillo son uno.
