If We Can’t Have the Parties, At Least We Have the Coats: Lookbook no.13
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi to anyone reading,
It’s been a weird winter, right?
A winter that I REALLY did not need to buy as many clothes for as I have. You WILL save loads of money during this lockdown, I told myself. You WILL. And yet here I am in December, in exactly the same financial position I was in March. You would think that making the switch to an environmentally friendly wardrobe would mean I own less but now I no longer have the guilt of supporting fast fashion to hold me back, I’ve accumulated more clothes than ever. Part of a sustainable wardrobe is also about reducing your consumption so now I’ve mostly made the move towards only supporting transparent companies/small businesses, I can move onto the buying less part. I haven’t thrown any clothes away but still, I am not the clothes rescuer I think I am-more just an overdraft abuser. To add to that, for those of us actually following the rules (half the people I went to secondary school with flaunting their apparently unaffected social lives on Instagram, I’m looking at you) there aren’t actually all that many opportunities to wear new outfits. Not to go too first world problems, but it is a little shit when getting dressed up and doing your makeup is one of the things that you do to help you feel a little better, especially when the seasonal (and situational in these times) depression kicks in.
So yes, I have been extra af recently and combatted this with the decision to start making an effort to outfit plan for the most basic of tasks. We’re talking a full face of makeup and accessories for going into town to get a coffee or to meet a friend for a walk. I mean, I still go to Tesco in my trackies but if I’m seeing somebody else, I am sure as hell going to treat it as a reason to wear something nice. See the winter outfits section of the lookbook as your inspiration to do the same because I can guarantee you the sense of normality forcing yourself to take makeup off at the end of the day brings will actually make you feel a lot better. Genuinely the mark of exceptional times. We’ve also got the few days relief period over Christmas in the UK where we’re allowed to mix with a maximum of 3 other households, and ignoring the fact that it doesn’t really make any sense given that the number of people you could end up mixing with depends on the size of the households and is realistically completely arbitrary (I have a lot of feelings about how fucking moronic half the decisions this government has been making are but then again, what’s new?), I’m sure those of you with big families are gonna be partying. I’m only spending Christmas with my immediate family but I thought I’d put some more festive outfits together anyway. I know, I know, it sounds like I’m just bullshitting an explanation as to why I put this lookbook together when in reality I’m trying to make myself feel better about the damage to my bank account buuuut it really is more a case of being inspired by my Depop finds and if you are trying to quit fast fashion, I can’t recommend the app enough (especially if you know what you’re looking for). As I did in the last lookbook, I will make sure to include the tags of all the people I bought these pieces from but I also thought it might be helpful to make a note of some of the descriptors I used to find them so you can get more of an idea how to find the things you’re looking for too, as well as prices. I did include the names of the shops I bought the few fast fashion items I styled from too, mostly earlier this year or at some point over the last couple of years, on the basis that they may be a useful search prompt if you’re looking for something similar or the exact item-the majority are no longer available (disclaimer: I haven’t bought anything from Boohoo in a longgg time) to buy but you might be able to find an account that’s selling a used version. Don’t be put off by that-I’ve had to wash a couple of pieces but for the most part, that hasn’t been necessary. Charity shops usually wash things before they put them out, so you have nothing to worry about there either-I expect that they’re particularly thorough at the moment considering the COVID crisis.
Enough rambling from me for now! Enjoy!

Anyone that read to the end, thank you so much as always and I hope this shows just how many in-trend pieces you can find second hand! I know I'm SUPER far behind to the point where it’s closer to the F/W2021 shows now than it is since the S/S2021 collections were showcased but I decided I am going to do a full length fashion week review. I also have a few moodboards planned and my next is gonna be one focussing purely on plus sized fashion as the feedback that I got from my New Style Icons post was that I could have included more bigger girls; I am so, so, SO passionate about body positivity and fat acceptance, especially since I know my own relationship with my body would be so much better if this kind of movement was more prominent when I was younger, so I don’t for a minute want anyone to think it was my intention to be exclusionary in any way. It bears repeating that I genuinely appreciate feedback in any form (as long as it’s not too mean and presumptive, lol) and I hope the next post doesn’t disappoint! It hasn’t been a good year for cinema due to COVID having lead to theatre closures, however I still do want to do another film tier ranking in the new year as that is something I really enjoyed doing last time. Any more suggestions are welcome!
As always, my inbox is always open if you need someone to talk to or just wanna chat about a post:-) I am constantly on the look out for new blogs to follow and people to interact with so any communication is welcome. I’m not sure if I’ll get another post finished before we enter 2021, SO I wanna say that I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and that this shitshow of a year DOES come to an end at 11:59PM on the 31st because THOSE MEMES ABOUT IT TURNING DECEMBER THE 32ND ARE NOT FUNNY! Here’s to our second attempt at our first year of the roaring twenties (because this past year it feels like we skipped them and went straight to The Great Depression, the likely incoming recession denial is real) and to happier times and good health for everyone.

Shein Summer Haul 2020
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shein is one of my favorite sites to shop on. Yes, I know they have some controversy but what clothing brand doesn’t. I much rather shop online then go into a Brandy Melville store and get judged. Plus the price, you can’t beat it! The styles are always up to date too. Why pay $40 at Brandy Melville when you can get the same style shirt for way cheaper on Shein?! This order I splurged. Which isn’t hard when the deals are so good. I got clothes and misc items for our new apartment. Let’s see what all I got.
Miscellaneous Items
Foot Brush - $13.08
I’m saying it right now I have dancer’s feet. If you don’t know what that means let me explain, image turning so much that you get blisters on the ball of your foot, the floor dries out your heels and toe pads, and floor burns all over your feet from pointe shoes and floor work. My feet need all the attention they can get to look there best outside of the dance studio. I so far am in love with the bristles and the buffer at the end of it. There were no color options when I ordered, so they sent a random color. Blue would have not been my first choice but oh well, I’m still gonna use it.
Three Metal Buckle PU Belts - $6.54
I used to hate belts in high school but now that I’m not a stick figure anymore, they have become my best friend. I wanted to buy a set of belts and this was the perfect set for me! Each one can easily go with any outfit!
40pcs Ditsy Floral Pattern Scrunchies - $9.81
A girl can never have too many scrunchies! These are perfect for my thin hair. I can’t wait to match all the different styles with my outfit on the daily. Now I just need to master some new hairstyles to go with them!
1pc Tassel Wall Decor - $5.45
When I saw this piece I knew it would look great in the bathroom of my new apartment. It was simple, which is just what I wanted. I just wish I got more to design them together on their own wall.
2pcs Plain Metal Bookend - $3.82
Again another item that didn’t have a color choice and sent just a random color, lime green. It will most definitely clash with my color scheme in my room so I might just spray paint them soon to lavender.  As long as they hold all my books in place that’s all that matters, right?
Bow Decor Shower Headband - $6.54
I love this headband! It’s a lifesaver in the mornings. I usually like to air dry my hair after a shower but it constantly gets in my face during my skincare routine. This is a stylish and convenient solution to my problem.
12pcs Simple Plain Scrunchies - $5.45
Have I said I like scrunchies?! I saw this satin set and knew I couldn’t pass it up.
Slogan Graphic Wall Print - $3.27
I love this saying and design. I knew it would look great in the bathroom of my new apartment. I had made some other fashion quotes to go in there also, so it would fit in naturally. It’s the perfect saying to describe my style. I don’t care what others around me think of my outfit choices, I wear what I want to wear because it makes me happy.
1pc Buttocks Workout Resistance Band - $6.54
I have been wanting one of these for a while now. I can’t wait to start using it in my apartment complex’s gym! I got to pick my color on this item, thank goodness! Pink was the goto, it’s a happy color so it should keep me happy while I’m doing a killer workout right?
1pc Iron Grid Wall Hanging Decor - $5.45
I have been saving different office ideas on Pinterest and each one of them has a grid on the wall like this one. I’m going to paint some mini wooden close pens to be able to hang photos and notes.
1 pc Silicone Shampoo Brush - $4.36
I personally hate washing my hair when I have fake nails on, which is 95% of the time. This was a perfect solution to that problem. I love that it came in purple too!
Clothing Items
Allover Graphic Bandeau Bikini Top - $6.54
This swim top is made for laying out, soaking in those summer rays. My new apartment complex has a pool and so many perfect layout chairs. I can’t wait to sit out there in this top with a good book.
Solid Sweatshirt and Tie Front Slant Pocket Sweatpants Set - $29.43
I have been really into pastel colors lately and sets are in style. The inside is so soft but while also being lightweight it will be perfect for winter here in Kentucky.
Tie-Dye Print Round Neck Sweatshirt - $14.17
Now, this I would not have called a “sweatshirt” it’s more of a knit long sleeve shirt. That is exactly what I will be using it as too. It’s a lightweight material and the color combination is so pretty. I’m not sad at all about this purchase.
3 Ribbed Cropped Cami Top - $5.45 each
I bought this style of top in three colors; black, burgundy, and navy. I can’t wait to style these tops with some paper bag style pants or a simple high waisted short. They are extremely soft too!
Tie-Dye Print Tee with Knot Pants - $22.89
Another set! This color combination just screams happiness to me, it’s so colorful. The pants are also high waisted, big bonus there. It will be the perfect lounging set for homework filled days at home.
American Flag Print Crop Tee - $9.81
This is a very simple graphic tee, but those are very trendy right now. I have never really been a graphic tee kinda girl, so we are starting to hop on the trend slowly.
2 Paper Bag Waist Knot Hem Belted Pants - $20.71
I got these pants in two colors; black and a salmon color. This is another purchase that I can’t wait to wear. The knit tanks from above will pair great with these or any of my bodysuits too. Not able to see this in the picture but there is a cute bow tie detail at the ankles.
Ruffled Armhole Flower Embroider Strip Top - $9.81
I LOVE this top! I put it on to make sure it fit and fell in love. I already started imaging all the different pants I will be pairing it with. The embroidered detailing is bright and delicate. While the ruffles on the shoulder add a flirty edge.
Lettuce Trim Ribknit Crop Top - $4.36
Lettuce trim is also a trend I’m not too overly excited about but having it on this pastel baby blue top makes it doable. Again with the obsession with pastels lately. We will see how I pair this outfit throughout the rest of summer and into the fall.
3pcs Ribbed Bandeau Set - $11.99
I was in drastic need of some simple bandeaus. I didn’t want to buy a bunch of single bandeaus so when seeing this set of three I couldn’t pass it up. They are the universal colors too. They will be so easy to match with tops.
Frill Strap Colorful Striped Cami Top - $6.54
Another bright and colorful top to add to my wardrobe! The ruffle straps are too cute. They add a flirty touch to a simple top. I think this top will look so good with some dark denim, don’t you agree?!
Which is your favorite item? I would love to see what is your favorite item that you have purchased from Shien also. And as always be sure to follow along on all my social media platforms to see into my everyday life. From daily insta story vlogs, OOTDs, thrifting trips, travel adventures, and of course baby Pumkin. I can’t wait to get to know you all more through this fun blogging adventure. Laters babes!

Hogwarts Pirate Radio: Hello! Matilda Beck here from the Hogwarts Pirate Radio. As the semester continues, a few different looks have caught my eye in the corridors. To get the scoop on what’s hot right now in the world of Wizarding fashion, I interviewed a couple of students to get their opinions and thoughts. Let’s get to our first question.
Tumblr media
HPR: This interview is going to focus on fashion and style. What is your favorite fashion or style trend in the Wizarding World right now, Regulus? Regulus Black (@regvlvs-blck):  A more traditional wizarding style of dress tends to look best on all wizards and witches. Especially given how it’s near impossible to keep up with muggle fashion trends, we might all be better off without their influence over our choice of dress.  HPR: That’s understandable. There are certain trends that are classic and don’t go out of style, and that’s definitely for a reason! I feel like if someone doesn’t know what to wear, traditional dress robes are always a great place to start. And Annabelle, what do you think? What is your favorite trend in Wizarding Fashion right now?  Annabelle Wood (@ofannabclls):  Matilda Beck? Hogwarts Pirate Radio? I don’t believe i--! Oh right *clears throat* Right. Um, my favourite style trend right now… oh you know, I’ve been seeing a couple of witches in bell-bottoms around lately. Ever since I saw Olivia Newton John in one I fell in love. But you probably don’t know who that is… Anyway, bell-bottoms. Quite refreshing from the heavy long skirts & dresses.  HPR: I see that you’re appreciate the Muggle fashion aesthetics that are popping up throughout the school. It’s fascinating to see these worlds meet and to see where they overlap and where they clash. James Potter, what about you? What trends do you love?
James Potter (@khrysvpos): Striped shirts and bell bottoms all day. Red and gold stripes of course. I quite like turtle necks, too... a trend that I hate though? Sideburns... HPR: So let’s get into that, yeah? Obviously fashion and beauty are in the eyes of the beholders. Some looks work for some people, but not everyone agrees on everything. What is one trend that you would like to just go away and never come back to public consciousness? JP: Like I was saying… sideburns. those long ones? I've got a big feeling everyone's gonna regret it in a few years to come, and I'll sit back happily knowing I never participated in that. AW: Probably the fur coats, or anything genuine fur for that matter.  RB: Bell sleeves. They’re horrendously impractical. HPR: Like I said, there’s a style for everyone, but in the world of style, nothing truly lasts forever. There’s always something new around the corner. I also asked our interviewees about their predictions for upcoming trends and styles. RB: Of course, I suspect we’ll continue to let muggles influence our dress sense for as long as we continue to hide amongst them. And, unfortunately, that means we might be seeing more corduroy trousers and tasseled robes before the decade is out. JP: I'm no fashion designer so I haven't got any predictions... HPR: But surely you must have some ideas about what the future of Wizarding fashion might be. You seem like the kind of guy with your finger on the pulse. JP: If I had to guess...long hair. And uh, I reckon dress robes won't look so clunky...that's /another/ trend I think needs to go, ruffles
AW: Well, it’s hard to say really. You can never tell what will stick & what won’t. Perhaps more patterns, fishnets, maybe even tie dye robes? Oh gosh, I certainly hope not the latter. One thing’s for sure, the Wizarding World isn’t as wildly eccentric as Muggle fashion. HPR: Who knows where Wizarding fashion is heading next? We seem to have a lot of different, exciting options. I can’t wait to see what you all decide to wear!

Meet Lauren, Who What Wear's fashion editor and co-founder of The Devils Wear Zara . Lauren is so obsessed with Zara that we started calling her The Zara Scout . Now she's turning the nickname into a franchise so she can regularly share her insider knowledge of the brand, including all her hacks, secrets, and must-haves with you. Mimi and I know Zara like the back of our hands. While some might champion that as an accomplishment, it's more often than not our biggest weakness as it results in us spending way too much time and money obsessing over the retailer. Instead of keeping all of our Z knowledge to ourselves, we started this dressing room series (along with The Devils Wear Zara) as a way to inform you on the latest and greatest happenings in the Zara world. Today, we're here for another round of photographing some of our favorite finds from inside brick-and-mortar Zara stores across New York (Lauren) and Los Angeles (Mimi). The theme this time around was spring trends . To be completely honest with you, for some reason, the stores didn't have a ton of the trends currently sold online, so we really had to work with what we got. That being said, we still have quite a handful of really fun spring 2019 items ahead including tie-dye, tangerine, your go-to spring dresses, and more. Below, see all the candid dressing room pics and read our honest reviews of each piece that made the cut. "This is like a neutral tie-dye for people who aren't into tie-dye. The black and white make it way easier to wear than a rainbow/pastel tie-dye. The little tie cropped detail makes it cuter than your average oversize tee. Cute with denim shorts or whatever you're into." —Mimi Postigo "I am really into the tie-dye trend, but it's already one of those trends that everyone is wearing and that kind of annoys me. This denim matching set felt like a fresh take on the print, which is why I was drawn to it. The jacket has these slits on the side which sounds weird, but it was really cool." — Lauren Eggertsen  + Tie-Dye Shorts ($30) "Tangerine is the one color I'm most excited to wear this spring and summer. I normally don't wear bright hues but it feels so right—and less intimidating to wear than slime green. I also love the length of this as a midi dress. I would prob wear with a cropped denim jacket and sandals." — Mimi  "I have been wanting a tweed set for a while now, and this tangerine one felt like the best option. I love the skirt on its own with a tank (that look is coming up) or paired with the blazer like so. Since everyone has been wearing head-to-toe beige lately, this hue felt like a nice departure." — Lauren  + Tweed Mini Skirt ($50) "I know this looks truly basic, but I have about six variations of a white tank and wear one every week. They're perfect for jeans, with skirts, shorts, legit anything—and this cropped one hits at just the right spot. Also, it's not even $10, so what are you even waiting for? I'm feeling like this will look way better once I have a tan, so I'm gonna go work on that…" — Mimi "I am so into a '90s-inspired baby tank top this season. It might not feel like a trend, but I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of this basic floating around the sartorial world paired with everything from tailored trousers to midi skirts and more." — Lauren  "These smocked scrunchy top dresses and shirts for spring are my vibe. This is the kind of dress you'll reach for every single weekend. Just get it, fam." — Mimi "I am not typically a gingham girl, but this dress felt a grown-up version that I could wear without feeling like a toddler. The fit is surprisingly nice for a body-con dress, and the slit adds a surprising feature. It's perfect to wear with strappy sandals like I did here, but can easily see it paired with sneakers, wedges, and more." — Lauren  "These pants are almost like sweatpants, but I really think they're chill. You'd think they're super grunge but with a strappy heel, I feel like you could wear them out. Also, I love a pocket." — Mimi "Show me a more perfect bag for spring. I can guarantee this bag would get 100 compliments and people would ask where it's from. It's also not totally mini, so you can fit your phone and other necessities in it. I'm sold." — Mimi "To be honest, this looked horrible on me, but I am including it because it would look really great on someone else! The color is so fun, and I think you could get really creative with the styling. I can even picture it all dolled up for a fun spring night-out look. Am I crazy?" — Lauren  "These shoes are so popular, we even wrote an entire story dedicated to them. They are the perfect wear-with-everything spring/summer sandal, so their popularity came as no surprise to me. I think they look expensive, feel comfortable, and will elevate any warm-weather look of my choosing." — Lauren Next up, find out which spring trends fashion insiders are retiring in 2019.
