I’m having a lot of feelings about Fringe, but especially “Fringe as palimpsest.” I’m a longtime fan but am only just now digging into the commentaries and interviews, and I love how many iterations they have of the original show idea. At one point, every one of these potential shows was equally possible, every one of them equally valid, but this version of Fringe is the one that made it so far.
And considering Fringe is a show about parallel universes (among other things), there’s something so beautiful resonant about the show having had so many iterations and how it could’ve become any one of those shows, but it became this show, this version of it, against all odds. And all the echoes of the other possible versions still echo throughout Fringe in the tiniest of character details and plot points and genre distinctions.
